I am playing JC4 from a month and its about to end. I played at 4K on my RTX 3080 Ti. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous (albeit some cutscenes are really bad thou). The wingsuit flying is brilliant (miss launching from standstill as in JC3). I am loving this game its so much fun. Its a must have if you get cheaper and have hardware to run it at 4K. Just play it and get done with it.

Over 10 hours in a game, not even one crash. Lots of fun activities, lots of mayhem to make.
If You love the series - lots of new and loved stuff to do, if You're new to series - good one to start.
Sure - it has some minor setbacks, few changes comparing to previous games, but none of them will stop You from having fun :)

Really fun gameplay. Lots of side missions to unlock upgrades, plenty of vehicles/supply drops. The various grappling hook mods are so much fun to use. The cutscenes look bad, but apart from that, the game is quite stunning. The plot is nothing special.

Just a fun game but could do with some multiplayer and the weather is a great touch but me loving just cause 3 I didn't like the control change for the grappling hook but it is something that will take a bit getting used to. It is just a fun game to play.

I personally kinda like having the “super strength” and being a bullet sponge. I know it’s gets rid of realism, but I prefer not dying a lot and being able to survive things that should kill me. I mean I don’t play Just Cause for realism, I play it for the amazing mobility, epic explosions, vehicles, and beautiful world. So story and gunplay weren’t as important to me personally. I started playing the Reloaded edition of this game because it was released as part of my Game Pass subscription. The fun factor is MASSIVE, the graphics are decent at maximum settings, the PC port is poor.

PROS: + South American Tom Cruise simulator! + Endless fun with the Grappling Hook that ties any two objects together + You can tie an enemy to a fuel tank, retract the connection
I started playing the Reloaded edition of this game because it was released as part of my Game Pass subscription. The fun factor is MASSIVE, the graphics are decent at maximum settings, the PC port is poor.

    PROS:
+ South American Tom Cruise simulator!
+ Endless fun with the Grappling Hook that ties any two objects together
+ You can tie an enemy to a fuel tank, retract the connection with high force, and watch the enemy die in a blaze of fire
+ Constant ground and aerial skirmishes are happening between the friendly and enemy faction, which you can take part or simply observe
+ Traverse the beautiful landscape by hitching a ride on the roof of a car, or flying over the mountains in your wingsuit
+ You're almost always airborne in your wingsuit
+ Very hectic action combat; it's not unusual to be attacked by over a dozen enemies at the same time
+ The tools at your disposal and the huge number of explosions really do make you feel like a South American Tom Cruise
    + GTA-like talk radio station

    CONS:
    - PC control scheme seems like it was done by an intern who had never turned on a computer in his life. You WILL struggle to navigate the menus.
    - Some menus appear offscreen on an ultrawide monitor, and therefore cannot be clicked unless you change resolution
    - Cutscenes are rendered at low-resolution
    - Enemy soldiers have no sense of self-preservation and will pellet your armored tank with their machine gun while standing in the middle of the road
    - Easy if you play smart. The game clearly wants you to be deep in the center of action and explosions

I have not experienced any crashes or glaring graphical issues such as pop-in, though I am playing the Reloaded version of this game on a newly built gaming PC in November 2021. I do wish the PC controls for the menus weren't completely nonsensical, and I wish the AI at least TRIED to stay alive. But the game does make up for these shortcomings with a huge amount of sheer fun factor.

Not worth full price. But definitely worth getting it for cheap or on Game Pass.

In 2020, this game is OK. While the graphics are somewhat lacking, I find this game very fun and the story is nice. I've only had one crash in this game, and mild performance drops. The vehicle physics are pretty bad, and all in all I would not spend $60 on this game. However, I would recommend it for a lower price (I got it for free on epic games).

Let's take out what made Just Cause 3 fun (liberating towns), add in canned tornado animations, a nonsenical map, an absolutely horrid UI on the Windows version, poorly made graphics using way too many 2D bitmaps, and no reason to blow up things anymore and you get something called Just Cause 4.

What possessed the developers to abandon a tested formula that made previous Just Cause games so much fun? Were they bored? Did they change developer teams? Was this new graphics engine beyond their skill level?

The developers have stated a day after release they were aware of the issues and promise to release a patch that will solve everything. I can't help the feeling though that this release was rushed to market and the developers were hoping to just push this game out as is and no one would notice. IF THE GAME WASN'T FINISHED WHY DID YOU RELEASE IT AVALANCHE?! What idiotic manager made that decision? You realise all you have done is given the Steam reviews a chance to completely trash your game!

Maybe 2018 is the year developers have all decided to completely destroy what little rep they have left with gamers? First we have Bethesda with the FO76 mess, then we have Dice and BFV released with half its content, and now Avalanche releasing this half completed game. What the heck is going on?!

Planes are near impossible to pilot with a keyboard, cars are horrible to drive and helicopters are very strange with a mouse, furthermore the AI in this game is utterly horrible, and the amount of look after these comrade missions is poor, even if ai was great. However, there are some great innovations, such as the ability to have grapple presets, each with tons of customization within them, weapons have a nice secondary feature, and none feel the same. Mods make the game interesting where it previously wasn’t, typically caused by limitations made by the game itself. Thing like limited ammo or limited vehicles put a stopper on the game’s potential fun, most of which comes from crazy destruction-based gameplay, with explosions everywhere, and doing fun stuff with vehicles. Just Cause’s gameplay has always been centered around this type of gameplay, and mods have kept the game afloat just as long. The story isn’t necessarily the most interesting, and most of the fun comes from messing around the map instead of doing actual story missions. A few new additions like balloons can make combat better, but it feels pretty similar to the previous game, Just Cause 3. The story feels somewhat formulaic as well, with another dictator to fight and more rebels to lead. While the game can be boring at times, the players’ imagination(and mostly mods) help make the game more playable. Expand

(Suggested downgrading to previous version worked a bit, then the game now constantly crashes to desktop.) I could put in a few hours on Windows 10 though.

The game is mediocre and not much fun. JC2 and JC3 were way better. The main issue is with the map density and ammo supply. The map is huge but sparse and trying to get from point A to point B is tedious. There is no minimap nor a compass that would highlight nearby interesting places.

Rico carries 2 weapons (so-so) and a really low amount of ammo (i.e., 160 rounds for the assault rifle). I don't see any way to upgrade the capacity. Yes, enemies drop ammo, except when you have to protect or stay in a zone and can't reach out for the ammo drop.

Shooting feels odd, driving is not that responsive, helicopters are mostly fine. Fast travel is limited.

The missions are average but now they are the gate to free a region. The game is riddled with stunt side missions which I always hated due to troublesome mouse+keyboard controls in any JC games.

The controls are generally awkward. Mouse doesn't work in most menus, one has to press the main ENTER to accept things which requires either moving off the mouse or reaching over from WASD.

In conclusion, it is not worth to buy or even play this game.

At this time, I currently don't recommend you buy Just Cause 4 because this game was not ready for launch yesterday and has issues that most PC gamers will find unacceptable for a game in late-2018.

I started playing the Just Cause games when I got Just Cause 2 on my Xbox 360 with Games with Gold, I enjoyed the game as it was rather simple, fun, action-packed, fluid and played as I wanted it to play. I then bought Just Cause 3 on my Xbox One (at launch) and then on PC earlier this year when it was on sale. Same as JC2, I enjoyed JC3, same fun action, the wingsuit was an excellent addition, I loved the new mechanics, and all the movement felt extremely smooth. The Xbox version did have frame-rate drop issues and extremely long loading times, but my time playing the game on PC (ultra graphics) was excellent. And this is my first problem with Just Cause 4, it simply resembles a Just Cause game but it doesn't feel like one. The removal of the base liberation was the biggest change I noticed in Just Cause 4, they marketed the new physics engine (which is excellent BTW) as a way to creatively destroy enemy bases and infrastructure, but I never get the chance to do so as I have no motivation to blow sh*t up as I get no reward for it. Instead, conquering bases is a process of going there and completing linear and boring side-quests (mostly vehicle and wingsuit stunts) to complete the base. The system in JC2 & JC3 where you will liberate a base/town, and unlock challenges from there, was a far better system as it was easier to see your progress and would slowly piss-off the dictator you were trying to take down. However, in Just Cause 4, I really struggle to see a main goal in the game, the map view is so over-crowded with challenges and information that I mostly just fly around and see what happens.

It also annoys me that Avalanche Studios bragged for weeks about how they cared about the PC player base and were touting their excellent PC optimization, even for lower-end hardware. Yeah, bulls**t. Firstly, just like Just Cause 3, the settings menus and some aspects of the map are so poorly optimized for a mouse and keyboard and I don't understand why. For example, to apply a change to your graphics settings, you need to use the arrow keys to navigate down the list but then you can't press ENTER to click, you must then move your cursor over the button to click APPLY. Not to mention, who the hell presses RIGHT CLICK to go back when navigating menus?! Sometimes the game settings menus are unresponsive, don't select the right option, or don't work at all. It feels like a sh*tty console port of the menus. Sometimes the game will decide to launch in windowed mode @720p instead of fullscreen @1080p, even though I set it to that in the first place. In my case (I run a GTX 1060, i5 6600 & 8GB of RAM), I can achieve about 70fps on medium-ish settings and I'd like to commend the game on the consistency of this framerate, even during large explosions or when doing complex physics calculations. However, this game is still plagued with performance issues and crashing. When I decide to play Just Cause 4, the launch process is as follows: launch the game - crashes at launch > launch the game a second time - 1 in 2 chance of crashing again > launch the game a third time - launches in windowed mode at 720p.

In regard to core gameplay, Just Cause 4 is pretty fun. The gun mechanics and controls are nice, the grappling hook, wingsuit, and parachute play well, and the gameplay feels much more realistic than Just Cause 2 or 3, in my opinion. I like the vehicles, they are cool, the controls for planes still sucks (why can't I tilt or roll the plane with my mouse instead?), and Rico's new gadgets are bloody awesome. I especially have fun with his balloons as I love to lift soldiers and vehicles up into the air, drop them, and see what happens to blow up next. His booster rockets are cool to give every vehicle a boost or can make enemies fly.

Most of the issues I have with Just Cause 4 are more than fixable. What I think Avalanche Studios need to do is sit down, take in all the feedback and reviews, and list common points from all of them as areas to fix. Little fixes like improving the menus, brightening up colours and the environment, fixing bugs and crashes, allowing better plane controls, and cleaning up the complicated map and information around it would do wonders for this game. Something like an Operation Game Health would keep Just Cause fans confident in this game and would keep the player base alive.

At the moment, however, Just Cause 4 just doesn't feel like Just Cause. It feels like a half-assed version of the game that was made to continue sales and revenue into the company. Just go back to JC2 or JC3 instead.

An OK sandbox game, but I think the series has better offerings. It definitely feels a bit rushed, and doesn't seem to offer something substantially greater than what Just Cause 3 had. If anything, it takes a couple steps back.

The game world is a bit of a mixed bag. I like the concept: a South American content with diverse biomes from Jungles to deserts to snowy mountains.

The game world is a bit of a mixed bag. I like the concept: a South American content with diverse biomes from Jungles to deserts to snowy mountains. Unfortunately the way the map is structured lacks consistency. There doesn't seem to be a logical change between different environments, and a lot of the buildings feel out of place in their location. It honestly feels a bit more like a battle royal map than a consistent world like the Mediterranean Medici in Just Cause 3.

The game-play is alright but ultimately pretty repetitive. The idea is to recapture parts of a map taken over by a dictator by completing quests. A lot of these quests follow a similar structure, usually involving escorting rebel prisoners out of a camp. Gameplay diversity comes from how you choose to tackle a mission. However I feel like a lot of the new gadgets aren't really that fun, like a balloon that send objects flying and a rocket thruster that also causes objects to fly. I feel like it would have been better to have stuck with simpler gameplay mechanics instead of having to cycle through many useless gadgets I'd almost never use. Destruction is also a fun element of this series, but I feel like a lot of the destruction has been scaled back in this release. There are less items to destroy and most destruction has a predictable behavior.

Hack this transmitter, defend this hacker, hack this hacker hack and do the hacking for the hacking hack. It's always hacking some base and than blowing **** up getting chased down by the bad guys and that over and over again its just not fun. the only fun thing is playing around with the grappling hook and just exploring the world because the world is actually very nice to play in and very beautiful. But other than that there is not much new in just cause 4 and the port from console to PC feels very unstable. I crashed at least 2 times in my playthrough with also major fps drops randomly.

The most important part .. it runs SIGNIFICANTLY better than Just Cause 3 - fairly smooth with acceptable load times on highest settings.

However .. the graphics do not feel very nice - which might be more an art or design choice than the actual complexity. The world is large and expansive, the vehicles fairly diverse. But in terms of looks .. it looks more like a modded "Skyrim" in terms of graphical era/fidelity than a 2018 game.

What i disliked the most however was the gameplay. It felt like a mobile game ... everything is simplified, easier .. in Just Cause 3, when the gliding was introduced, it was a little learning curve .. one that i had never really mastered at all.

Funny thing - when i tried the gliding in Just Cause 4 .. it was very easy. Same with hopping from vehicle to vehicle ... so easy that it is trivlal (as in boring). Now i do not want a Quicktime event like in "World on fire" whenever i capture a vehicle .. but it should be a bit harder...

Gunplay is a joke, too .. with the AI pretty much being dumber than the AI in most 20 year old games.

Sum it all up - and you get a sandbox game on super easy difficulty .. quite boring and not challenging.

    Another completely unacceptable PC port.

    - No FOV settings.
    - Max mouse sensitivity is unbearably low.
    - No way to disable motion blur.
    - Mouse sensitivity when zoomed is not modified by the zoom, so aiming is terrible.
    - Very few graphics settings.

There are only two possible reasons for this: indifference or incompetence. I don't know which is worse.

I keep switching out to the options to double-check whether the graphics have somehow slipped down to 720p and to triple-check whether I'm missing something obvious in the control mappings. (If I could widen the field of view things might be better, but given the state of the rest of the game I don't feel motivated to google for registry/config hacks.)

The story (2 hours in) sucks. The series is meant to have some ambiguity - as reflected in the title "just 'cause". In JC4 there's no ambiguity: I'm firmly on the side of the dictator. Even with the crappy game mechanics, I think I'd enjoy the game if I could only side with the Black Hand to kill all the favela residents and their Mary Sue leader.

I picked the game up for $10 in a Christmas sale so, even though I'm sad that I wasted $10, I'm happy that I feel free to quit after only dropping a couple of hours.

So far looks like it checks all the boxes. A fantastic physics sandbox. Red targets to explode, soldiers to eliminate with fun weapons, air drops, grappling hook kills, grappling hook spinning cows, and now we get regions to conquer with our new found army. The region conquer with your army looks a bit shallow atm but I hope they do more with it later in game, as it could be a very good mechanic. Another gripe is getting hit with mortars and having no clue where from. The "Lens" you have doesn't display it. This game is fun. This game needs an hd texture pack. This game has a few stutters that should be patched soon.

UPDATE: Seems the army/territory takeovers are pretty shallow. Blow things up, unlock an army, and automatically expand your borders. They could have done SO MUCH MORE with this... I feel there is a lot of untapped potential and they could have made several skirmishes with the border expansion. I liked the % of things to blow up in each town. In this game I'm actually searching for things to blow up structure wise. I liked blowing up all red things to 100% a town. Not "flying through 3 circles in wingsuit" or "Enter ring at xxx speed" to complete it. It seems like JC2 was a ton to explode and a lot of cities to 100%, and JC3 had a bunch but bit less. JC4 seems like that number has almost fell 50%. Also, the tornados look like a kid with photoshop, maybe I shouldn't have expected Twister movie type tornadoes to begin with. Oh, and POPINS... On ultra settings things appear out of thin air, the draw distance is terrible. Especially on the ocean. But makes flying a plane and trying to find things to bomb a chore. Grenades are gone, and timed and protect missions are absolutely maddening. Motorcycle controls are suicide lol. Another maddening feature is finding a specific type of car make and model to unlock a factory door. This wouldn't be so bad, but since they aren't real autos you just have to get in and out of a ton of them, and hope to get lucky. In one mission, "The Dawnflower", the mission fails as soon as I enter the stunt car.
The more I think about it, this JC just doesn't have as much to offer as previous entries. There is just too much untapped potential.

EDIT: Since the Nvidia drivers for JC4, the stuttering is gone.

On the other hand there are too many (sometimes even funny) glitches and bugs that shouldn't happen at a release,
I suggest it will take at least 6-12 months to fix them all.
Graphics quality is far from consistent, varies broadly. I didn't expect that and pre-ordered Just Cause 4 but sadly at the end of the day and after more than 12 hours gameplay this unfinished rag rug of a game reminds me too much of Mafia III. Not what I expected.

But okay, so the game looks bad, how does it play? That was promising when I saw that game uses about 8 GB of RAM and VRAM is reasonable as well... but the framerate... I couldn't get a stable 30 fps in this game on a mid-range PC, and searching the internet shows that you need the top of the line GPU to play this game at 60 fps in a reasonable resolution! RTX 2080 TI is REQUIRED to play the game at around 60 fps in 1440p... Yeah, a game that looks about as good as Just Cause 2 and most players can't even play it at a reasonable resolution and framerate.

I won't even mention the crashing, glitching, nonsensical AI, castrated gameplay, terrible UI, the return of vomit inducing motion blur... because chances are high that you won't be able to run the game anyway, so why even bother?

Low graphics are now the new ultra graphics, story is very simple, controls when playing with keyboard&mouse are really bad, ui is made very difficult. gameplay is mehhh.. Biggest dissapointment are annoying missions like loosing heat (getting away) that can go on forever due to bad AI and programming, vehicle physics and driving is awefull.

Oof. the most repetitive missions i've ever played (apart from F4 Preston´s missions) like, do this, protect this, destroy this, switch this; wtf avalanche? HAVEN'T even finished the main quest line because of that; it gives me laziness. Could be better. Provinces liberate with the touch of a button... wtf i liked having to liberate each base, it was an unique experience, having to use a different strategy to liberate each big base. I would buy JC3 instead (or maybe wait until 5) really. Expand

This is the most boring game I have ever played. It's so repetitive, graphics looks like it was made in 2010, and the most important thing - Crashing for no reason after playing for a while. Even for free this game is trash.

This might be most disappointing game i have ever played. It had so much potential with tornadoes and big map, but in the end it was emptiest, most boring, graphically outdated trash.

This is a broken game. At first, the game was not saved (license). Later there were constant crashes, only in this piece ... of the game. Very bad graphics, but like a sandbox, the game is addictive and bored very quickly. It works badly on the pc. I do not recommend playing.

The entire look of this game is sloppy, with many obvious flaws and poorly designed effects. The game play controls are everywhere, and come off as nonsensicle. The game play controls are everywhere, and come off as nonsensicle. Closing the map is the number 1, for instance. Why would you randomly choose the number 1 on your keyboard to close the map? You would have never known this game was made by a major gaming company, as it feels and looks more like a low budget indie game that was never completed.

The character control is off-putting, with uneven movement. The aiming and viewing with your mouse moves in an uneven as well as sluggish presentation. When you use your grappling hook, you feel a lack of control compared to previous games. The aiming is not precise, and you will sometimes be hitting above, below, left or right of your cursor (center). The parachute and glider seems to be well executed, but everything else is completely unrefined and sloppy is the best way I can describe it. This game is a devastatingly sloppy mess.

motion and animations show horrible collision issues, while the collision of surfaces in this game dwindle any possible realism out the window completely. Bump a barrel and it could tip over or fly several hundred feet. The same in bumping a large blown up vehicle. The cinematics look horrendous and unfinished, showing that there was no effort in presentation.

After just recently finishing Just Cause 2 and Just Cause 3, I am sure it was a completely different group of people who made Just Cause 4, as this is so poorly made. This game does not even come close to the level of the previous games in even the quality of game play, smoothness of controls, collision and animation.

The voice acting shows a lack of feeling, almost like just going through the motions. There is an obvious divide in some of the lines, where it is almost an awkward pause. The script seems to have been read disjointed, leaving little for the voice actors to work together in building the immersion to the situation by sound. The level of emotion in the characters voices is the same, regardless if they are in a life and death combat situation or just sitting and chatting in a calm environment.

The game performance has stuttering, which makes no sense. The game will perform fine for a time, then it will randomly stutter, then work fine once again. The very first mission with Louis is a complete fiasco. The truck for some reason keeps exploding for no reason. I tried reattempting, and it seems to be unavoidable. Being this is a story mission in the very early game, this is a clear game breaking bug.

In short, this game should be considered an embarrassment to a company at this level for published such a mess, and I am surprised that it has remained such a mess after this long, unless they just cut their losses and moved on. This game is not worth playing in its current state, and is among the worst games I have ever played from a major gaming company. I would expect a game this poorly made on the level of a failed indie game that was never finished.

After playing the game for another twelve plus hours, I dislike the game even more. The controls on the flying wing suit are not as good as Just Cause 3. The random vegetation gets in the way with the challenges, which are lackluster. The story is abysmal and filled with politically correct references, instead of anything meaningful. The game characters essentially berates Rico, while then treating him like a boy toy for a loud mouth annoying character that cheapens any value of the Rico and his missions. The writers clearly had an agenda and gave it more importance than making a good game. I will not be investing in Just Cause 5, as I find this to be a sign of a company losing the plot and not trustworthy for quality products.

Just Cause 4 might be one of the biggest disappointments in gaming. Literally. I personally never cared about Cyberpunk 2077 anyway, so that one didn't mean much to me. But i was actually hoping that Just Cause 4 will be decent, because 3 was fun enough. sadly, other than tornadoes, there's basically nothing else.

Did they even playtest this on PC? The controls feel awful, the UI is frustrating to deal with, it's buggy, and whenever you start having fun you'll get ambushed by attack drones and have to retreat.

This is a huge step backwards from Just Cause 3.

They took Just Cause 3, removed all of the fun mechanics (i.e. base destruction and solo fun) and added convoluted army mechanics that seem ripped right out of a f2p game. You control this rebel army, yet have no real control over them except where they attack and train them by simply attacking the enemy near them? It offers nothing fun and leaves you rudderless, unless you enjoy going into the mess of a map and clicking through missions because the map shows nothing and toying with overly complex keybindings that are so far from necessary and only add confusion. Why are the missions not listed on the map like in the past, why force this arbitrary list. The game is a downgrade on almost every level over Just Cause 3. It is also even buggier then 3 was at launch. Which was a big reason for it's low score on metacritic. It is a sad day, because all they had to do was make Just cause 3 with a new map, missions and the same gameplay. Instead they decided to build this overly complex system of systems that you have no real control over and do not add any fun. This game is just not fun to play. But If you enjoy physics simulators it is decent, still you are better off playing 3 again. This game just should not exist and hopefully Avalanche dies in a **** fire so JC5 can live on. If they deliver the sequel I think it will be the end. Avalanche is a bunch of clueless people left with no guidance from leadership. It has crashed and burned and hopefully no one tries to help them live on. Expand

The ending serves as a bridge to a possible 5th installment, but it’s going to be just as bad unless the developers reinvent the series. The "entertain yourself" approach to the open world ran out of steam a long time ago, campaign missions are going downhill fast, and the amount of bugs has skyrocketed.

When designing a new game in a long-running franchise, the developers face a fundamental question: go with the tried-and-true or risk trying something new? In this case the former approach was chosen and it was the right decision, because JC4 is as enjoyable as its predecessors. It has some obvious flaws (e.g. uneven visuals and some repetitive mission types) but they are easily outweighed by incredibly fun gameplay. It is simply a well-made, thrilling open world game.
