Dec 3, 2018Everything is absolutely fantastic, and while in-game performance isn't perfect, it's hardly enough of a downside to affect my view of the game overall. Avalanche has truly brought the thunder.

Game World Navigator MagazineDec 21, 2018Just Cause 4 is just like its predecessor, but bigger, better, faster. Most of the grind was removed, while “creative destruction” aspect is better than ever. [Issue#234, p.34]

Dec 3, 2018If you love open world games that let you loose to just play with things and see what kind of mayhem you can create, there's no better series than Just Cause 4. And while this holiday season is filled to the brim with new games, I would strongly advise against sleeping on Rico's latest adventure. It's one you'll be guaranteed to have dozens of hours of fun with.

CD-ActionFeb 6, 2019When designing a new game in a long-running franchise, the developers face a fundamental question: go with the tried-and-true or risk trying something new? In this case the former approach was chosen and it was the right decision, because JC4 is as enjoyable as its predecessors. It has some obvious flaws (e.g. uneven visuals and some repetitive mission types) but they are easily outweighed by incredibly fun gameplay. It is simply a well-made, thrilling open world game. Dec 17, 2018Just Cause 4 does not represent a setback or a bad delivery in the terms of the franchise and if you are a fan of the adventures of Rico Rodriguez, you will not be disappointed after making the revolution succeed in Solis.
-
Dec 10, 2018Just Cause 4 is the perfect example of what Just Cause is. The action is over-the-top and amazing, but the story is really thin and missions get repetitive. If you love the explosive gameplay however, you are set for a perfect vacation.
-
Dec 4, 2018Explosive open-world spectacle in the form of a playable B-movie. Graphical weaknesses and boring missions lower the score for Just Cause 4.
-
Dec 4, 2018Just Cause 4 is the best entry in the series to date, offering spectacular free-wheeling destruction on a scale that’s not been attempted before. Rico remains one of gaming’s most enjoyable protagonists, but more than ever before, it’s really all about what he’s capable of doing rather than the events unfolding around him.
-
Dec 4, 2018Just Cause 4 is a very entertaining package and its potential won’t be fully tapped for a long time.
-
Dec 3, 2018With its extreme weather scenarios and the familiar, over-the-top usage of Rico’s grapple gun, wingsuit and parachute, Just Cause 4 is the most ridiculous and best it has ever been.
-
Dec 17, 2018The franchise essence is still there and responsible for a lot of over the top explosive action that you love or hate about the series. But the enormous hardware requirements of the Apex engine make this a tough cookie to chew on - even more so on consoles.
-
Dec 3, 2018Just Cause 4 is a slightly better version of Just Cause 3's destruction-fueled action, but lacks a big new idea to give it an identity of its own.
-
Dec 4, 2018In Just Cause 4 you will have fun making things explode and exploring the map in the most different ways, but don’t expect a great depth of play.
-
Dec 13, 2018Just Cause 4 is a great sandbox with a funny action moments, but you'll find repetitive missions and great ideas unexplored.
-
Dec 7, 2018Just Cause 4 is a really engrossing game that makes you want to goof around. The amount of new toys will decide about the longevity of this game - players can unlock A LOT of them during their progress with the main storyline. Unfortunately, it also means that gamers have to complete a dozen of repetitive tasks. Despite that, it's still worth it.
-
Dec 3, 2018Just Cause 4, on PC, is a totally free sandbox experience where physics matter. Unluckily, the repetitive aspect of missions objectives will disappoint those who seek more than a physic playground, even if its combat system has evolved.
-
Dec 3, 2018Just Cause 4 tries to bring the series to a new level, but in the end the game delivers the same funny sandbox experience it's very well known for, with only little differences.

Dec 4, 2018The plot pulls off a potentially murky blend of regime change and climate-conspiracy because it's obvious that nobody expects anybody to think too seriously about these things, and the game beneath the plot throws the same objectives at you over and over again because it knows that the tools you're given are fun enough to ensure that you can do things a little differently each time. MashableDec 3, 2018Try as it might, Just Cause 4 does not live up to its predecessors. In a game that's built around normally fun elements like chaos, destruction, and revolution, Just Cause 4 ends up getting in its own way far too often with extraneous menu-based systems, a wild camera and controls, and (on PC) a litany of performance issues and inexplicable game crashes. It's a disappointment, to be frank, and made me want to give up and play Just Cause 2 instead.
-
Dec 3, 2018Between the technical issues, the drab story, and the baffling mission structure though I’m feeling pretty disappointed so far. I didn’t necessarily want Just Cause 4 to be more of the same, but I don’t think this new direction works very well either—not to mention it feels like the game needed another few months of development. We’ll keep you updated if anything significant changes between now and release, but at the moment this one’s hard to recommend. [Impressions]

Dec 3, 2018The campaign never manages to escape its own mediocrity, it threatens to open out into a more liberating game of exploration and experimentation, but doesn’t quite make the jump. Yes, doing the Just Cause thing of mixing up modes of destruction is still fun. But this series needs more than a few storms to stay relevant and vital. It should take a cue from its own example: Destroy the established order, and find something fresh in the ensuing wreckage.

Dec 4, 2018I’m just at a loss as to how this has happened. Just Causes have been buggy, sure. But they’ve never felt at least six months from finished. I cannot fathom how this wasn’t lengthily delayed, because it’s in such a dismal state. Although that said, even if the bugs and AI were fixed, it would still leave behind a version of Just Cause that barely changes anything you actually do since the third edition, yet has made every aspect of doing it so astronomically more annoying. What went wrong? How did such an established and entertaining series end up in such a quagmire?
-
Dec 3, 2018That’s how it goes while you inhabit Just Cause 4. Constant iridescent glimmers of the game it wants to be, tethered by a grappling hook cord to mechanical clunkiness.
