Hack this transmitter, defend this hacker, hack this hacker hack and do the hacking for the hacking hack. It's always hacking some base and than blowing **** up getting chased down by the bad guys and that over and over again its just not fun. the only fun thing is playing around with the grappling hook and just exploring the world because the world is actually very nice to play in and very beautiful. But other than that there is not much new in just cause 4 and the port from console to PC feels very unstable. I crashed at least 2 times in my playthrough with also major fps drops randomly.

Just cause 4. Great map/boring story/boring missions/still blowing stuff up.

Let's take out what made Just Cause 3 fun (liberating towns), add in canned tornado animations, a nonsenical map, an absolutely horrid UI on the Windows version, poorly made graphics using way too many 2D bitmaps, and no reason to blow up things anymore and you get something called Just Cause 4.

What possessed the developers to abandon a tested formula that made previous Just Cause games so much fun? Were they bored? Did they change developer teams? Was this new graphics engine beyond their skill level?

The developers have stated a day after release they were aware of the issues and promise to release a patch that will solve everything. I can't help the feeling though that this release was rushed to market and the developers were hoping to just push this game out as is and no one would notice. IF THE GAME WASN'T FINISHED WHY DID YOU RELEASE IT AVALANCHE?! What idiotic manager made that decision? You realise all you have done is given the Steam reviews a chance to completely trash your game!

Maybe 2018 is the year developers have all decided to completely destroy what little rep they have left with gamers? First we have Bethesda with the FO76 mess, then we have Dice and BFV released with half its content, and now Avalanche releasing this half completed game. What the heck is going on?!

13h in. whilst not as fun as 3 it still has some moments. probably will finish it off tho.

a big gripe is the change to have complete challenges to capture towns. really interrupts the flow to have to go and find car type X to go thru obstacle Y (especially when said obstacle is 100m above ground level).

Unfortunately, Just Cause 4 is a real let down. From a poorly constructed world to a confusing & basic story. There is nothing new here. Steer clear of this one unless its on sale or gets many updates. DO NOT PLAY ON PC!

the game is decent, OK story, the graphics are OK but the 3 had better textures, the balloon was a decent addition to the game. The game has a lot of issues and is kind of confusing. Just Cause 3 is better, if you enjoy the franchise wait until they offer a decent discount and buy the game (you need to have a really good PC)

(Suggested downgrading to previous version worked a bit, then the game now constantly crashes to desktop.) I could put in a few hours on Windows 10 though.

The game is mediocre and not much fun. JC2 and JC3 were way better. The main issue is with the map density and ammo supply. The map is huge but sparse and trying to get from point A to point B is tedious. There is no minimap nor a compass that would highlight nearby interesting places.

Rico carries 2 weapons (so-so) and a really low amount of ammo (i.e., 160 rounds for the assault rifle). I don't see any way to upgrade the capacity. Yes, enemies drop ammo, except when you have to protect or stay in a zone and can't reach out for the ammo drop.

Shooting feels odd, driving is not that responsive, helicopters are mostly fine. Fast travel is limited.

The missions are average but now they are the gate to free a region. The game is riddled with stunt side missions which I always hated due to troublesome mouse+keyboard controls in any JC games.

The controls are generally awkward. Mouse doesn't work in most menus, one has to press the main ENTER to accept things which requires either moving off the mouse or reaching over from WASD.

In conclusion, it is not worth to buy or even play this game.

And why the heck the ammo is so limited? you have to change for weapons all the time because you ran out of ammo you can order for weapons of course but sometimes you ran out of ammo and die not even the melee is effective in this game, grappling hook is your best tool in this game. For me play JC3 or JC2 instead stay away from this game.

At this time, I currently don't recommend you buy Just Cause 4 because this game was not ready for launch yesterday and has issues that most PC gamers will find unacceptable for a game in late-2018.

I started playing the Just Cause games when I got Just Cause 2 on my Xbox 360 with Games with Gold, I enjoyed the game as it was rather simple, fun, action-packed, fluid and played as I wanted it to play. I then bought Just Cause 3 on my Xbox One (at launch) and then on PC earlier this year when it was on sale. Same as JC2, I enjoyed JC3, same fun action, the wingsuit was an excellent addition, I loved the new mechanics, and all the movement felt extremely smooth. The Xbox version did have frame-rate drop issues and extremely long loading times, but my time playing the game on PC (ultra graphics) was excellent. And this is my first problem with Just Cause 4, it simply resembles a Just Cause game but it doesn't feel like one. The removal of the base liberation was the biggest change I noticed in Just Cause 4, they marketed the new physics engine (which is excellent BTW) as a way to creatively destroy enemy bases and infrastructure, but I never get the chance to do so as I have no motivation to blow sh*t up as I get no reward for it. Instead, conquering bases is a process of going there and completing linear and boring side-quests (mostly vehicle and wingsuit stunts) to complete the base. The system in JC2 & JC3 where you will liberate a base/town, and unlock challenges from there, was a far better system as it was easier to see your progress and would slowly piss-off the dictator you were trying to take down. However, in Just Cause 4, I really struggle to see a main goal in the game, the map view is so over-crowded with challenges and information that I mostly just fly around and see what happens.

It also annoys me that Avalanche Studios bragged for weeks about how they cared about the PC player base and were touting their excellent PC optimization, even for lower-end hardware. Yeah, bulls**t. Firstly, just like Just Cause 3, the settings menus and some aspects of the map are so poorly optimized for a mouse and keyboard and I don't understand why. For example, to apply a change to your graphics settings, you need to use the arrow keys to navigate down the list but then you can't press ENTER to click, you must then move your cursor over the button to click APPLY. Not to mention, who the hell presses RIGHT CLICK to go back when navigating menus?! Sometimes the game settings menus are unresponsive, don't select the right option, or don't work at all. It feels like a sh*tty console port of the menus. Sometimes the game will decide to launch in windowed mode @720p instead of fullscreen @1080p, even though I set it to that in the first place. In my case (I run a GTX 1060, i5 6600 & 8GB of RAM), I can achieve about 70fps on medium-ish settings and I'd like to commend the game on the consistency of this framerate, even during large explosions or when doing complex physics calculations. However, this game is still plagued with performance issues and crashing. When I decide to play Just Cause 4, the launch process is as follows: launch the game - crashes at launch > launch the game a second time - 1 in 2 chance of crashing again > launch the game a third time - launches in windowed mode at 720p.

In regard to core gameplay, Just Cause 4 is pretty fun. The gun mechanics and controls are nice, the grappling hook, wingsuit, and parachute play well, and the gameplay feels much more realistic than Just Cause 2 or 3, in my opinion. I like the vehicles, they are cool, the controls for planes still sucks (why can't I tilt or roll the plane with my mouse instead?), and Rico's new gadgets are bloody awesome. I especially have fun with his balloons as I love to lift soldiers and vehicles up into the air, drop them, and see what happens to blow up next. His booster rockets are cool to give every vehicle a boost or can make enemies fly.

Most of the issues I have with Just Cause 4 are more than fixable. What I think Avalanche Studios need to do is sit down, take in all the feedback and reviews, and list common points from all of them as areas to fix. Little fixes like improving the menus, brightening up colours and the environment, fixing bugs and crashes, allowing better plane controls, and cleaning up the complicated map and information around it would do wonders for this game. Something like an Operation Game Health would keep Just Cause fans confident in this game and would keep the player base alive.

At the moment, however, Just Cause 4 just doesn't feel like Just Cause. It feels like a half-assed version of the game that was made to continue sales and revenue into the company. Just go back to JC2 or JC3 instead.

Mods make the game interesting where it previously wasn’t, typically caused by limitations made by the game itself. Thing like limited ammo or limited vehicles put a stopper on the game’s potential fun, most of which comes from crazy destruction-based gameplay, with explosions everywhere, and doing fun stuff with vehicles. Just Cause’s gameplay has always been centered around this type of gameplay, and mods have kept the game afloat just as long. The story isn’t necessarily the most interesting, and most of the fun comes from messing around the map instead of doing actual story missions. A few new additions like balloons can make combat better, but it feels pretty similar to the previous game, Just Cause 3. The story feels somewhat formulaic as well, with another dictator to fight and more rebels to lead. While the game can be boring at times, the players’ imagination(and mostly mods) help make the game more playable. Expand

An OK sandbox game, but I think the series has better offerings. It definitely feels a bit rushed, and doesn't seem to offer something substantially greater than what Just Cause 3 had. If anything, it takes a couple steps back.

The game world is a bit of a mixed bag. I like the concept: a South American content with diverse biomes from Jungles to deserts to snowy mountains.

The game world is a bit of a mixed bag. I like the concept: a South American content with diverse biomes from Jungles to deserts to snowy mountains. Unfortunately the way the map is structured lacks consistency. There doesn't seem to be a logical change between different environments, and a lot of the buildings feel out of place in their location. It honestly feels a bit more like a battle royal map than a consistent world like the Mediterranean Medici in Just Cause 3.

The game-play is alright but ultimately pretty repetitive. The idea is to recapture parts of a map taken over by a dictator by completing quests. A lot of these quests follow a similar structure, usually involving escorting rebel prisoners out of a camp. Gameplay diversity comes from how you choose to tackle a mission. However I feel like a lot of the new gadgets aren't really that fun, like a balloon that send objects flying and a rocket thruster that also causes objects to fly. I feel like it would have been better to have stuck with simpler gameplay mechanics instead of having to cycle through many useless gadgets I'd almost never use. Destruction is also a fun element of this series, but I feel like a lot of the destruction has been scaled back in this release. There are less items to destroy and most destruction has a predictable behavior.

The ending serves as a bridge to a possible 5th installment, but it’s going to be just as bad unless the developers reinvent the series. The "entertain yourself" approach to the open world ran out of steam a long time ago, campaign missions are going downhill fast, and the amount of bugs has skyrocketed.

When designing a new game in a long-running franchise, the developers face a fundamental question: go with the tried-and-true or risk trying something new? In this case the former approach was chosen and it was the right decision, because JC4 is as enjoyable as its predecessors. It has some obvious flaws (e.g. uneven visuals and some repetitive mission types) but they are easily outweighed by incredibly fun gameplay. It is simply a well-made, thrilling open world game.
