I’m still crying. I think I needed to play this one. It is telling that I, a therapist by day, still find something healing and therapeutic in the best narrative-based games. Just a To the Moon Series Beach Episode, through its title alone, undersells the promise of having one’s heartstrings pulled. This isn’t “Just” anything. Though it is short (approximately 2-3 hours to experience everything the game has to offer), this game is well worth the time.

Excellent and always on point, Kan Gao succeeds in the complex attempt to propose an adventure as usual special and touching, touching the right chords through a simple but effective plot. The goal of the production is to revive part of the experience of To the Moon, a goal that is achieved in an absolutely noble way. The gameplay, not particularly changed compared to the past, focuses on classic and already known dictates. Also on this front, but because the operations of the Canadian developer do not change, not much could be expected. He prefers to focus on emotions, showing them off. An excellent act of beauty.

Just a To The Moon Series Beach Episode reconfirms the indisputable narrative and compositional talent of Kan Gao, an author who over the years has demonstrated how video games are capable of tackling themes that are anything but obvious. Those who have been following this narrative universe since 2011 will find familiar faces, protagonists of a short story that is able to strike the right chords. If you have not followed Kan Gao's productions, it will be difficult to fully enjoy this title: stories, characters, quotes and references to the past abound, making it more of an arrival experience than a departure. Given their short duration, our advice is to recover the previous chapters, so that you can appreciate Beach Episode in all its aspects.
