This game does not make a breakthrough in the industry, it does not claim to be the opening of the year or the best game... in return, it gives you interesting and warm emotions.
The Explorer's gameplay is interesting, the locations are large and colorful, the variety of animals on the planet (not now, I don't know how it will be later).
The game is worth the money if you want to play

Creatively, full points. JttSP is original, zany, and beautiful. The story and art are fantastic.

Gameplay-wise, disappointing. It's an exploration game with slow movement, crappy keyboard controls, invisible walls, and no map. It's a bog-standard metroidvania with collectathon mechanics. The combat is not fun.

Imagine if Super Mario Galaxy was played in first person, but we give him a gun, grappling hook and jump boots. Or imagine Metroid Prime but much less serious and we place it in the wacky world of No Man's Sky or Spore instead. Then add a bit of the tongue-in-cheek humor from Portal or Stanley Parable and you get pretty close to what it feels to play Journey To The Savage Planet. It's a bit of an unusual mix but it works, and more importantly it feels fresh, fun and fairly unique.

Gameplay wise the movement is fast, fluid and smooth. The controls are good and responsive, although if you play with a keyboard I think they could have done a better job of combining keys with each other, there is for example no reason that the "crouch" and "slide" key need to be different. What also is quite fun is that towards the later half of the game they essentially give you powerful enough movement options to essentially "break" the early areas of the game which you previously struggled with. I think this is quite fun game design since it makes the player feel empowered and gives a nice sense of progression.

In terms of graphics it's pretty much gorgeous, the colorful cartoony style suits the game and it runs great. On a medium to powerful rig I think most people should be able to achieve close to 100fps or more. There are also some gorgeous vistas in this game with old ruins, floating islands, waterfalls, underground lava caverns etc. For me the world felt very much like Super Mario Galaxy with the graphics turned up 11, which I can only see as a good thing.

The story has a fairly standard sci-fi exploration arc, but it's well done and narrated with plenty of humor. You might guess what's coming but you still want to see what's around the corner and how it plays out. There are however two things which might detract a bit from the game and they are as follows:

    1) The tone of the game is fairly inconsistent early to late game, perhaps a bit more than what can be chalked down to normal progression. The beginning of the game is so easy you might initially think this is a pure exploration game, then comes the mid-game and you now have a decent mix of exploration, platforming and combat. But then comes the late game and it's now a pretty advanced platformer with quite a lot of combat and mini-bosses. It's a interesting progression but perhaps the game is also trying to be too many things at once. If someone wants to explore they would probably prefer a pure exploration game, maybe with light combat. If someone wants to kill aliens they would probably prefer a game that focuses more on that. And while the platforming is well done they might have overdone it a tad. Personally I would have preferred more unique exploration and puzzles in the late game with less enemies and combat.

    2) The late game gets a bit repetitive. I think what's really missing from this game for me is a more Zelda like feel in the later half of the game. The game starts out extremely strong and the first time you see the world it feels very unique and interesting, it's a lot of fun to figure out how this world works and what the rules are. But in the later half of the game you've learned all the rules and the game now starts to feel a bit stale. There's quite a few things to collect but even those challenges start to feel pretty repetitive after a while, a bit like filler content. In the first half of the game the world felt very wild and like anything can happen, but in the later half of the game there are few surprises and you as the player feel a bit too safe and familiar.

So if I was to change anything about this game I would tone down the combat and platforming in the later half of the game and focus more on exploration and story, give it some Zelda like dungeons and mystery. But as it stands this is still a fun and fairly unique game on the market, and it should work well for different age groups too. Here's to hoping we get more interesting and original games from Typhoon Studios in the future.

This is a humorous Metroid Prime that has an interesting world. Unfortunately, the gameplay gets a bit repetitive and the exploration doesn't feel particularly rewarding. It's a pretty easy Metroidvania.

It's not a bad game. I like the concept, but other than the humor, the gameplay gets bland fast.

Wonderfully colorful, with varied fauna and flora. Exploring the game's world is a joy, but that's all there is. It's very easy, you feel no threat from enemies and bosses. You don't really interact with the aliens apart from shooting some of them. It would be great to observe some interactions between them and use them to your advantage, but all they do is walk around.

Co-op is fun as you grab your online "Meat Buddy" and explore. One thing to consider is that progress and materials etc are only retained on the hosts account so your co-op partner is there for support, not their own progress.

One detriment to the game is that it starts off feeling like a sci-fi exploration game (almost akin to Astroneer minus the survival and building) but gradually changes to a standard shooter format the further you get (wildlife becomes more aggressive the further you get and "bosses" show weak points that glow etc).

Also it seems to have an inconsistent price across the platforms (see TLDR).

TLDR - Fun little scifi exploration shooter, could be a little cheaper but the price is reasonable for what it is (depending on where you buy it ($59.95AUD Retail, $59.95AUD Microsoft Store, $39.95AUD PSN Store, $29.99USD Epic Store).

Journey to the Savage Planet is a first person 3d platforming adventure game that can be played solo or co op where you play as a character whos job is to collect information about a potentially inhabitable planet, before we bring humans there to live…
and during this first few hours of this about 8 hour journey, Journey to the Savage Planet was one of the most charming and ridiculously fun games ive played in a while…
Journey to the Savage Planet takes inspiration from games such as ratchet and clank, no mans sky, and I’m sure borderlands with its quirky humour and characters
So many moments I would just bust out laughing about how dumb or self aware certain moments in this game were… and this humor is what makes journey to the savage planet such an overall charming experience…
The world starts out full of secrets, wonder, and color.. youll be scanning items and creatures trying to catch them all, pokemon style… youll find branching and hidden paths that lead to upgrades for your health and stamina, all of this got its hooks in me instantly… I wanted to scan all of the creatures, collect all of the orange goo, and upgrade my character to their full potential… this is what journey to the savage planet does right with its collectibles.. they aren’t meaningless.. they all have a pay off, you feel true incentive to explore and collect… what journey to the savage planet doesn’t do right though, is constantly locking off paths that require you to come back later with new items… the concept of journey to the savage planet is simple.. you’ve gotta fix your ship, you need to go collect items to do so… but in your way are enemies, enemies that drop materials that you an then use to upgrade your gear, however to actually unlock said gear, you must stick to the story until youre given the mission to get said gear, and along your way you are teased with things you cant interact with.. which is a fine thing ti an extent.. but this is constant from start to finish…all youll want to do is explore and become more powerful, but the game wont let you… youre rewarded for finding these really well hidden secrets with a sorry come back later, and it just becomes discouraging after a while… especially in this games final stretch.. how do I not have every ability unlocked already? I stopped caring during journey to the savage planets 3rd act…
which bring s me to my next gripe… Journey to the Savage Planet is a brilliant 3d platformerfor the most part, you have so many consumable items at your disposal to uncover secrets and traverse through this world… but much like every other 3d platformer… the spark stays, but fizzles the deeper you go into the game… each act getting progressively not as fun, until the point where your hoppinh around broken apart floating islands.. again just like every other 3d platformer… Journey to the Savage Planets magic was in its exploration and collecting.. it was in its adventure and humour… while it was still enjoyable, it was a mistake to rely and focus on traversal and gun play for the 2nd half of this game… and not only that – but it was also a mistake to toss this pokemon like collection system out the window by just reusing and reskinning enemies, this caused exploration to quickly lose any bit of excitement, whats around the next corner? Everything you just saw except now theyre yellow instead of pink.
But with all of my gripes, Journey to the Savage Planet challenged me in all the right ways, the gunplay was just annoying enough for me to constantly feel in danger, it encouraged exploration in all the right ways, having me search for spawn and teleportation points so I could quickly go grab my dropped items if I died… this journey to the savage planet was a pleasant surprise, and one that im glad I made.
I give Journey to the Savage Planet

It's only challenging because of bad design. This is the gaming embodiment of a turd rolled in glitter.

    ---{ Story }---
It's interesting enough, you're a pioneer stranded on an alien planet, and the company you work for didn't plan for your return, so you have to explore the mildly dangerous habitat in order to gather the resources you need to get home. Also Aliens.

    ---{ Gameplay }---
Mostly platforming, and a bit of shooting.
The platforming is imprecise at best, mostly because there's no way to tell when you can/can't grab onto a ledge. The way a grapple should work is, if you're in range and facing the grapple point, you can grapple. Not in this game. Sometimes it works, sometimes you fall and have to start a tedious climb all over again. Or die.
The shooting is inaccurate, and the most dangerous monsters are immune, except for tiny, moving, weak spots. So... that obviously wasn't thought out very well. Even if you trap them in goo, the weak spot moves around a lot, so you're just spamming bullets until you're lucky enough to land a shot. Oh and sometimes, as if that weren't enough, their weakpoint is on their back/tail, but despite being stuck in goop, they rotate so they're always facing you... that's either a bug or brainless game design. Also their attacks can just reach you anywhere. As in, an enemy will anti-grav up a tree just to hit you.
The dodge mechanic seems pretty useless. The enemies you have to dodge seem to lock on to you, and are much faster than you, so.... what's the point?
There's no map. For a game based heavily around exploration, this seems like a huge oversight. You constantly come across puzzles you don't have the equipment to solve yet, good luck finding/remembering all of them without a map or waypoints. EDIT: This is made a bit easier later once you unlock radar abilities for the collectables.

    ---{ Graphics }---
Absolutely beautiful. Nice vibrant colour palette. World design is cool and trippy.

    ---{ Audio }---
The music is awesome but there really isn't much of it. Shame that.

It's a parody of the entire survival genre on a massive scale and simple, light-hearted adventure wrapped in one game. You probably won’t regret signing up with Kindred Aerospace, but still, this game could have been more engaging.

Fun times for all explorers eager for well-made levels full of secrets. You probably won’t enjoy the action parts too much, but it’s still well worth your time.
