TheIn 1862, when Farragut's Union squadron was preparing to occupy the vital hub of the South - New Orleans, the Confederate agent L. Merton approached the Austrian government for a passible naval arms deal. Relations between the Austrian Empire and the North were poor during the war. The Austrians tried to interest the Confederacy in steam warships, many of them gunboats. With the New Orleans ironclads, they could present a dangerous challenge to the Union navy on the high seas, potentially capable of overwhelming squadrons on individual blockading stations. In reality, the deal never took place - but it could have happened!

Create your fleet and army, hunt the enemy's fleet, hide your weak squadrons in protected ports until reinforcements arrive, blockade enemy trade routes, amphibious assaults and harbour sieges, struggle for dominance over the seas in turned-based strategic mode - All of these actions are possible in Ironclad 2 American Civil War.
Choose your ships, increase the experience of your crews and send your squadron into the high seas. Command a battle formation and experience the power of iron and steam in a turned-based maritime strategy mode while fighting battles with a tactical real time naval simulation game.

The rise of ironclads is a turning point of naval history and a great background for a naval simulation. And every new naval sim is a good thing. Frankly I'm surprised that the game did not notice the portals and blogs as Wargamer or SimHQ. I found this game by accident. I bought a tablet PC and began looking for games suitable for the technical requirements, and my interests.

In turned-based mode this game is a great introduction to deep strategy games, with a lot of the under-the-hood stuff being cut out to focus on movements and battles. Not very easy to master, but much more detailed than it looks like and, most of all, pretty accurate from historical point of view. The AI will beat you down and exploit every error in your strategy and must have been inspired by an advanced chess program, and if you dont pay close attention when playing youll have your head handed to you in short order. This is the part where the games AI really shines: tactical withdrawals, smart counterattacks, always looking for the gap that can be used to destroy your forces. This part of the game is absolute self-sufficient and I would not be surprised if some people will play the game and do not use manual battles. Even if you're not a fan of naval battles, this game mode will entice you.

The graphical interface of the game is generally clean and simple, well adapted to the skirmish scale of naval battles. I specially appreciate the use of simplified navigating instruments to change the direction or the speed of the boat. Graphically, the game looks pretty good, is functional, and adds to the game. Warships and other units are very detailed, well rendered and look very good.

But for such a game, which appeals to a specific group of fans, I hoped for some more features in real time battle mode. Crew management and such... ships should be allowed to designate how much crew are to work on repairs, put firesout etc. not just random.

In my view, its a little lacks depth in real time mode to be a really great game, but I would recommend it for wargame and naval enthusiasts! Basically if you have any interest what so ever in Civil War naval combat this is the choice of game to place, I highly recommend it!
