It's a masterpiece, guaranteed to have players flocking to forums to discuss the ending and try to unravel with it all means. [Issue#254, p.62]

You need to be in the right mood to fully enjoy something as peculiar as Inside. Take a deep breath, enjoy the silence, embrace the suspension of disbelief, and you'll be in for one of the finest treats of 2016.

Inside is a truly unique platformer that is a better and more mature brother of famous Limbo (that came from the same studio). Everything you see on the screen is extremely well thought out and the way that one anonymous character in the background conveys tons of emotions with a simple move is astounding. Only the best could have achieved such a thing and I'm sure Inside will be remembered for years.

Just like its predecessor, Inside is a puzzle in itself. Mysterious, intriguing, dark yet beautiful, it's one of the most unique platformers around and a journey well worth taking.

An immensely polished, gripping platformer experience. Aesthetically, Inside is pretty much ahead of anything done in the gaming space right now. That said, the actual gameplay (pushing blocks, scripted chase sequences) is somewhat lacking in substance. [Sept 2016]

Although Inside’s aesthetics are great, its storytelling methods aren’t reprehensible. There’s no narration or dialogues; all information is conveyed through environment and gestures of characters, so unless you’re willing to go on wild interpretation sprees, Inside’s story won’t make any sense. But even if you do, it will still leave a lot of unanswered questions. [Issue#211, p.62]

But Inside can’t resist padding its story with what passes for gameplay. Who knows whether it’s because Playdead didn’t have the confidence in their story or because videogamers need to push crates onto pressure plates in order to call something a videogame. Whatever the case, Inside is a provocatively outside-the-box story in a disappointingly inside the box game.

The game is a stunning visual and auditory experience that immerses you in a dark and dystopian world where you control a young boy who must escape from a mysterious facility. The game is full of clever puzzles, tense moments, and shocking twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The game has no dialogue or text, but it tells a powerful and emotional story through its brilliant animation and sound design. The game is also incredibly polished and smooth, with no bugs or glitches to ruin the immersion. INSIDE is a game that you have to play to believe. It is one of the best games I have ever played and a true work of art. Expand

    Completion: Finished the game.

    Pros:
    - Incredible minimalist visual style that manages to impress despite not being the most technically impressive piece of work. This helps to contribute to the eerie atmosphere of the game that only grows stronger as the story continues.
    - Playdead does a great job of creating tension with its challenges, especially in the moment-to-moment gameplay
    - "Intuitive" puzzles that work based on logic rather than arbitrary rules of a game. While this isn't necessarily a good or bad thing, this style works very well for Inside and undoubtedly sets it apart from others in the genre.
    - Ending sequence is shocking and unique in the best kind of way
    - Although the game probably could've been just a little bit shorter, the length is more or less commensurate to the amount of unique content

    Cons:
    - Trial and error puzzle design that often feels cheap. I am primarily referring to the sections of the game that will kill you without warning and are near-impossible to predict based on context-clues and the parts of the game you have already experienced.
    - Puzzles are too simple - especially when compared to Limbo. Strange to see that Playdead has decided to take a step back in this department.
    - The story really is not good. It is exciting to actually play through, which is of course a good point. However, after finishing the game and looking back on what happened, there really is not that much substance. The themes are trite and the actual plot is far from being legitimately "interesting". Ambiguity works well for most of the game, but once the curtain is finally lifted, there is shockingly little.

    Final Word:
Playing through Inside is a wholly unique experience due to its unparalleled sense of atmosphere and the escalating tension that comes from the twisted, mysterious nature of its world. However, once the mysteries unravel (to the extent that they can be), it becomes clear in retrospect that the story and puzzles lack substance.
