Minecraft is a forever-game for many people. Hypixel Studios has ambitions to get there, too, and the foundational gameplay here is solid enough--albeit partly due to the strict blueprint it followed--that success is at least possible, if not guaranteed. But Hytale will only find lasting success once it first finds its own path forward and does more than just rebuild experiences its players already had years ago. [Early Access Score = 60]

Overall, I'm quite enjoying my time with Hytale so far. Even if it is just Minecraft again, it's an enjoyable rendition with some thoughtful tweaks and additions. It's almost like someone's wishlist of things Mojang will never do, or can't do with its legacy tech. It took me around 40 hours to feel like I had exhausted its progression paths, and it's the type of game I could play almost indefinitely if I get a big construction project stuck in my head. For my band of multiplayer comrades, though, the question is really whether we would choose this over Minecraft or Valheim or Sons of the Forest at the moment. And the answer is… not quite yet. But it already has some neat stuff those other games don't, and I look forward to seeing how it grows from here. [Early Access Score = 70]

While almost everything about Hytale is reminiscent of Minecraft, Hypixel's title manages to generate interest, even in early access. Even better, we had a great time playing it, both in Exploration mode and Creative mode (despite a few issues "beyond our control," as they say). The game, entirely dedicated to its community, has a solid foundation and already has fans working on mods and servers. There's obviously still a long way to go before Hytale reaches its full potential, but it has all the ingredients to become something special. [Early Access Score = 70]

The future for Hytale is promising, so long as the developers follow through with their promises and give the game the attention it deserves. Considering the overwhelmingly positive response to the title, I have no doubt that this will indeed happen, and it shouldn’t take another ten years to see Hytale fully fleshed out...If nothing else, the developers have created a bountiful future for Hytale thanks to the game’s ease of modding, making modding tools readily available to players and using the popular and accessible model creation tool Blockbench as an official development tool. If you ever feel like Hytale doesn’t have enough content, you can trust the game to have tons of mods readily available for you to play, and the game already has some created and available to download, developed before the game even launched.
