Loved the game loved the story albeit it was rather short took me 23 hours of gameplay to complete the story plus the rewards were not that rewarding.
Only had one instance where there was a performance issue through the entire play through.
Need to have DLC content now and maybe multiplayer duels.
Very beautiful game graphically devs done a wonderful job.

This is the epitome of Ubisoft's copy-paste open-world style, complete with meaningless side quests, uninteresting NPCs, and an overwhelming number of collectibles that serve no purpose. The constant barrage of notifications is akin to a national emergency alert on your phone. Unfortunately, a neutral rating is not an option on Steam, and sadly I must give this game a thumbs down.

The constant barrage of notifications is akin to a national emergency alert on your phone. Unfortunately, a neutral rating is not an option on Steam, and sadly I must give this game a thumbs down.

The poor dialogue and open-world design, leave much to be desired. Despite being somewhat enjoyable, this game is frustrating due to its missed potential.

The incredible art style is overshadowed by the lack of good design direction, ultimately leading to disappointment. This game serves as a prime example of the shortcomings of the open-world style, and its issues are indicative of a wider problem in the gaming industry. If you can't do an Elden Ring or BoTW style open world type game, don't even try.

It's clear that not every game can deliver an open world experience like Elden Ring, and those that can't should consider a different approach. Rather than filling their game with endless amounts of copy-pasted content, they should focus on delivering a simple, streamlined experience with engaging gameplay. In fact, in today's gaming landscape, the length of a game can often be more of a negative than a positive, as it serve as a proxy for the amount of copy-pasted trash content. Too often, open world games rely on the quantity of content rather than its quality, resulting in a bloated and underwhelming experience.

    Positives:

The world-building in Hogwarts and Hogsmeade is well done.
Combat is better than expected (after the initial tutorial)
The game features good music, visuals, voice acting, and atmosphere in certain areas.
Broad strokes of the story are interesting
    Open world looks amazing.

    Negatives:

The open-world content is basic and identical, with numerous copy-pasted cairn dungeons that lack variety and offer little in the way of exploration or challenge.
Combat becomes repetitive towards the latter half of the game, with few enemy types and limited customization. The stat system is flawed, with a level difference between a player and enemy making a significant difference in gameplay difficulty.
Generic and unitersting npcs with forced and unnatural dialog and most quests are explained like you are mentally retarded.
Very little enemy variety, with combat designed for boss battles, you still fight trash mobs 99% of the time.
You play the map, not the game for the majority of the game as the game encourages quick travel and following the map blindly, with too little time spent in Hogwarts.
The accessibility settings are not well designed, with a lack of options for players seeking to play without assistance.
Hogsmeade is underwhelming, with only shops and repetitive puzzles.
The player's choice of Hogwarts house has no significant impact on the game.
The game's plot would have been better suited for a regular RPG focused on Hogwarts and immediate surroundings, with a regular character experiencing Hogwarts for the first time rather than a fifth-year student who excels at everything.
The game does not offer the player any meaningful choices or the option to pursue a darker path.
No humor, nothing memorable, it's just kinda meh and forgettable.

Overall I give this a 6/10. About what you can expect from a western open world style game, with the added point for the nice harry potter atmosphere.

I will take Horizon Zero Dawn 1 & 2, Cyberpunk, The Witcher 3, The last of us as a reference and also some reviews i read, and will highlight 4 main points i found important.

    First, engine problems:
Yes, thats true, if you paid 1500 or more for your 3080ti at the hight of the corona virus, and are now disappointed that your card can't handle all ultra max out graphics with raytracing 1440p and DLSS activated then i share the same feeling with you. It is still too early to say if its gonna stay like this but to give it 1-5 points reviews because of this, is a bad critic i think. The game is perfectly playable for the most part, even tho it has some glitches here and there, but comparing it to the other games i mentioned at release, it plays like a charm.
    7 Points.

    Second, characters:
Characters are vivid. It's not the same like the last of us 2, but it is comparable to Horizon, and i'm talking about face expression and not the color choice and the ambiance. Fact is, it's the same story as always, the game got overhyped and people thought this would be a real life simulation. Expectations are always too high and then the game get bad reviews because of feelings. Thats humankind for you.
    8 points.

    Third, World building:
Fantastic, and with some dlc's in the future i will only get better.
    10 points.

    Fourth, lore:
If you bought this game knowing the world of harry potter then it's gonna be like a dream come true to you. If you're new to this world, it's actually even better, cause there is plenty of lore to dive in. It's deep. Not as deep as Starwars or lord of the rings but still plenty.
    9 Points.

My Final score is 8.5, and i will add 0.5 extra points to counter act all the trolls that are reviewing this game with a score of 1.

The first thing you will notice is the very good level of graphics in the game - in my opinion, the faces of the characters could be much better and more attractive, but overall not bad. In all other respects, it is close to ideal: landscapes, clothes, magical effects and animations - all this is created at a high level. But this level of detail makes the game not run as well on some PC configurations (especially on machines with less than 16GB RAM). And it's interesting why this game didn't get as many 0's as Elden Ring with the same technical issues on some machines (and yes, Hogwarts also has some 21:9 aspect ratio issues). Let's move further, the combat system is excellent for me - all these different spells with different effects can be combined in different ways that make combat system so flexible and perfectly suitable for your play style. Various amount of activities scattered around the world also don't let you boring. But here we come to plot and minus that i met in my playthrough. To me, the main quest, as well as the 3 side quests, look and feel childish without any drama, everything is too slick as if bad endings are something that is not achievable. lso about main quest if planning to rush it on easy difficulty (probably on all others) you probably can't do this because LVL-gates game says to you some thing like "no way bro you need to get N lvl to continue storyline", and on low difficulty the only way to obtain more lvl is do all side quests that you can see. But if you don't wanna see credits in the end of the game and your target is get message that you complete the main quest you dont need to farm everything but still need farm a lot. So as conclusion it grate game with good graphic excellent, combat system and not bad puzzles, but at the same time the game suffers from poor optimization and lvl gates. Expand

Also: A good and very successful "restart" for Avalanche Software, a team that wasn't so much on our radars in the last decade or so, and after things didn't turn out so well with Disney.

Within WB Games they are my favorite team now along with Rocksteady and Monolith, that's how good I find the quality of their work.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Hogwarts Legacy ending has you become the only Keeper, either absorbing or hiding Isidora’s magic under Hogwarts. It doesn’t matter which choice you make.

In the good ending, you hide Isidora’s magic away from the Wizarding World, hoping that no one will ever find and abuse the power for themselves. In the bad ending, you decide to use it for ‘good’, absorbing it yourself. Either way, Professor Fig meets his demise, and Ranrok is killed.

Afterwards, both endings have the school hall packed with students, hearing Professor Weasley’s eulogy of Professor Fig. However, school isn’t over just yet, and you need to complete the Hogwarts Legacy side quests and fill in your field guide to complete your O.W.Ls.

You get a secret third ending after completing reaching level 34, however, it’s just an announcement of the Hogwarts Legacy House Cup winner. Of course, the winner is whatever House you’re part of.

You're welcome. I just saved you 60 dollars.

Too long animation scenes that extened gameplay. 90% of Hogwarts teachers/shop vendors/ other npcs in this game are some colorful rainbow indians/africans/chinesee/japanesee. I have no immersion to british 19th century or HP world at all. Even side quest about tritons in the lake smells with this ****

The pacing of the storyline is smooth- the quests are riveting, and leveling feels well-balanced with just the right amount of "fun challenge" vs "tedious grind". It's an expansive, detailed fantasy world that stays true to the spirit of it's lore, and if you love the movies, well now you get to play in them yourself!

The world is spot on, looks amazing, sounds amazing. Truly feels like im in the HP universe.

A couple of minor cons imo,

The lockpicking was horrible, no skill needed just a timegate to open a door/chest. They should have atleast added instant lock opening on lower Lvl 1-2 locks when u have the higher skill?!

The ability to not play on fullscreen on PC is just strange.

Not being able to (Sell All or mark selected / sell selected gear) is just annoying.

Not alot of enemies, which can make it kinda tedious, and waaaaaay to much gear, which then makes it just a numbers fest and the excitment of looting a '' so called legandary'' just does not feel like looting a ''legendary item'' . Would have been nice with less and more specialized gear.

Running around with 30k gold and nothing to spend it on felt weird.

But with all that said, if you like fantasy, magic , adventure or RPGs, its definitely worth the money!

While Hogwarts Legacy certainly lives up to the world it is set in, it fails to create a game strong in its mechanics and open world structure. In fact, the downfall of this game is that its elements are serviceable to a larger audience, therefore exceeding at nothing in particular.

Hogwarts Legacy brandishes itself as an "rpg". Technically, this is right considering the different dialogue choices and different endings. However, these "rpg" aspects are frankly disrespectful to the genre in their dullness. In most dialogue scenarios you have two options: Angel of God or complete **** Neither of which really affect anything in the game in particular. Furthermore, the dialogue in this game is actually painful to listen to, as if they found random kids on the street and held a knife at their throats while they voiced their characters. It feels so unnatural when compared to titles where good voice acting is one of the key components in their story (RDR2).

Speaking of the story, I couldn't find myself to care about any of it due to mainly the open world design and of course the dialogue. I wanted to; however, many games fall victim to a lack of urgency, especially Ubisoft titles like Far Cry. Essentially, the world is obviously in place for you to explore, however, sometimes it serves as more of distraction to the detriment of the main story. Let's say that you have to deliver some urgent goods from point A to point B. Typically, you'd believe that you have to go to Point B right away, however, no one really cares what you do and how long it actually takes you to get to point B. It's times like these where I feel like these types of game just don't take their story serious enough. Like seriously, I could not tell you anything about any story of Far Cry, AC, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc bc they do not care about strong and coherent story telling where as RDR2 and the Witcher 3 (although not perfectly) nail this idea of creating urgency on the head.

The open world itself is not good either. In fact, nothing is actually worth your time exploring the world. you will encounter all you need to see by exploring the first Region of the game and simply nothing more due to the copy and paste puzzles and areas of the map. Furthermore, the map in the game lists off all the boxes you need to check in order to complete a region, turning this fun game into a chore. This idea of copy and paste puzzles and areas of the map are downright lazy. Exploration is broken in this not only due to the repetitiveness of the map but because the loot system is awful as well.

Well, if all these parts of the game are bad surely the side quests must be good? No. They are easily the worst part of the game. Every single one of them is either go here kill this or go here, kill this, then return me this. Other, better, rpg games like Fallout NV use their side quests to either add to the main story or add to the worldbuilding. Hogwarts Legacy instead decided to implement these dry and easily replaceable side quests that could easily be implemented into any other game with very minor tweaking. You are better off ignoring the side quests altogether.

I understand I have pretty negative in my review so to clarify, what I value most in a video game is mostly strong story telling. I can overlook average gameplay/combat (Witcher 3) if the story is able to keep me engaged and wanting to play. However, this obviously wasn't the case for HL. I did, however, enjoy the combat in the game although it was stupidly easy. Being able to perform these cool combos never failed to make me feel like a badass.

As an avid HP fan, I will not deny the joy I felt getting sorted into my house for the first time and exploring Hogwarts. This initial rush of nostalgia and dopamine is easily the best area of the game. Hogwarts is beautifully crafted so much so that I'd consider one of my favorite set pieces in any game I have ever played. It is filled with secrets to uncover and areas to see from the movies and books. the game is also visually gorgeous, sometimes I sat in awe when looking at the castle from a distance.

However, when I turn around and face the rest of the map, I can't help but see a game filled with mediocrity and cut corners.

It's not that this game is innovative next gen technical demo.
Story is amazing I'm 40 hours in and still didnt finished main story cause I just wonder around that beautiful world. It's dense, it's made with love by the awesome developers who cares about the consumers.

This is a decent game but man, it has so many flaws.
The story is basic - that can be a strength if there are some points that elevate it, but there's literally only one quest line with any depth to it, it makes the rest pale.
The 'puzzles' are an atrocity. They're just timewasters more akin to just a collection item than anything else. You need zero brain activity to complete them,

The 'puzzles' are an atrocity. They're just timewasters more akin to just a collection item than anything else. You need zero brain activity to complete them, they're not ANY kind of challenge. Might as well not be there. The only reason they're in is so there can be a spot on the map filled in. That's it.
I really struggle to call this an RPG - your choices don't really mean jack. The dialogue is.... let's just sum it up as writing not being very good in general.

What this game is good at however is the castle and world design - they're just beautiful and a joy to walk thru and explore, even if the result of the exploration is somewhat underwhelming.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying the game, but it's a bit sad to see what it could have been.

Also, the UI is just annoying and on nvidia (I'm on 3080) it runs not well enough.

This game has some issues, like very poor graphics, but as a Harry Potter fan it is absolutely amazing. The story has me hooked but just exploring Hogwarts and all the surrounding areas has been absolutely incredible. If you are a fan of the books or the movies, I highly recommend this game.

It isn't that good. I never read the books but I liked the movies a lot. I ain't a Harry Potter hater and I don't care about the J.K Rowling Trans thing. The game has the same Ubisoft action/skill wheel that most Rpgs have and it makes the gameplay feel samey. The graphics are nice with a few hiccups but the game feels boring. The amount of cutscenes is nuts and the gameplay is not very fun.

Explore an open world: run around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and the surrounding Overland area.

The game's mechanics are well thought-out and intuitive, making it easy to get the hang of even if you're new to this kind of game.

The collectibles and quests are fun to work on and complete. Whether you're exploring a new area, completing a puzzle, or fighting enemies, there's always something interesting to discover. The game strikes a great balance between challenge and accessibility, so you always feel like you're making progress.

Overall, I recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun and engaging video game. Its great music, immersive world, good mechanics, and fun collectibles and quests make it a really enjoyable experience.

This game is not really stable at the moment. The open world formula is just like any generic open world out there, NPCs does not feel like they have any personality at all. There are a lot of details, magic floats everywhere (as it SHOULD) and it is a very magical world to explore. But that is just it, exploring. Exploring isn't that much fun especially when you collect stuff that is almost identical to the other stuff you've already collected or still need to complete.
Some parts feel a bit tedious and is more like a drag than enjoyable gameplay; The enemy types are nothing to really talk about. They do not switch their skillset up, sometimes an attack here and there, can be challenging but most of the time it is easily doable if you get a bit savvy with the combat mechanics. The most fun I've had on the hard difficulty. Enemies hit a bit harder, their shields stay up because it correspondents only to a different spell kind, etc. The finishers are cool as well, and the last enemy you kill make the whole world slow down for a moment, so you can recollect yourself.
The music is just incredible, magical. It reminds me of Harry Potter and is nice.

Gameplay summarized would be: It feels like an Ubisoft game, with a better story.

Sadly there is very little variation on paths you take and the game basically force "A", even if you've chosen for "B". This is somewhat of a bummer to me. There is no direct influence on the world, regarding the path you take. You can't feel it.

The real gem to me are the side quests and the ancient magic. It is just so fun to mess around with it, the way it reacts. Sadly there isn't a lot of variation there as well. The side quests because of certain characters, other than that the rest are just side quests. Also the flying is really cool, the controls aren't all that, but the way you fly is very nicely. oh.. CAPE PHYSICS

The meh: random graphic problems on PC (stuttering, lagging, loading times on a Gen 4 NVME drive). Quite a bit of repetition. I don't know if the game is meant to be played exclusively on controller or mouse/keyboard. The character can only carry limited items: no storage afaik. It's open world, but open world in a small world (about 5 square miles, compare to habitual 11+ square miles for far cry. Zelda 23 sqm, Oblivion 24 sqm). The character designing phase is lacking. Some collision bugs here and there but not too bad. I don't know if there is a karma system, because clearly there are positive and negative actions/decisions/communications, is it something finished or not?

The bad: in a pre-industrial revolution time there would not have been as much diversity or alphabet nonsense (regardless of your character being male or female: you are a they/them and you can choose to be in the male/female dorm or be called a witch/wizard the last two choices have no incidence afaik). Clearly the devs couldn't navigate the alphabet nonsense and it feels unfinished business there as the issues are peppered through the game. NPCs are just droning around with very limited interactions.

It's an okay game with many hours of playtime but it also feels unfinished and overly political in nature.

I am addicted! It truly goes beyond my expectations, the universe is dense, rich and beautiful, there a ton of secrets to uncover, ton of quests, ton of refererences to movies and books, lots of depth in the gameplay... I am loving it!
'However pc performence is mediocre at best. Stutters, fps drops, tearing... A shame for such a good game!

Dublado em português, com pouca lacração e nenhum feminismo. áudio em português é outro nível, muito bom, queria que tivesse lacração zero, mas ainda tem um mimi aqui e ali.

Hogwarts legacy disappointed me a lot. The story is extremely banal and full of clichés, the classic story of the chosen one who is the strongest of all. (Basically the plot of the movie, but dumber). The combat is fun at first but after 10-15h of play it starts to get repetitive. The setting is beautiful but it is ruined by the bad optimization for PC.

The game gives a pretend freedom of decision through the dialogues, but in reality 99% of our answers do not affect the story. The chosen House does not affect the story, nor the personality of your character and his classmates. The game is filled with boring side quests that are made mandatory to continue with the main story. Simply put, this game should cost half what it costs now.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game has good and episodically fantastic plot moves. However, I (SPOILER) regret the quest to transform into a headmaster. The character acts like a child from a sitcom of the 90s, pretending to be an adult.
The battle system is nice and feels smooth. However, the roll is broken. If you make a roll like in souls, then you should be able to dodge damage and not magnet an enemy just because you rolled 1 nano sec early.
The graphics are good no complaint, and the optimisation, at least on my 3060 is good. Stable 60fps.
Loved the plot twists, but again mad that even though I decided(SPOILER) to consume the pain magic at the end, it did nothing on the gameplay after it.

Well deserved rating for a well which took its time to get done. Should be an example of quality, detail and love in a single masterpiece.

Thanks for making us experience what only our 10 year old imagination could try to reach.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Buggy, boring. Predictable story, poor graphics. Invasive denuvo drm. Your teacher Eleazar dies in every ending no matter what choices you make. They put a trans character in the game to pinkwash it. The game supports chattel slavery because JK Rowling can’t handle any change in her static, stale, neoliberal universe. Expand

    fix the game devs. please

This game is incredible, so much fun stuff to do the combat is amazing. Been playing for about 10h, I’m not even a big fan of Harry Potter but still I can’t stop playing. I know there have been complaints about fps drops luckily I’ve haven’t experienced that.

Truly magical game. Exceeded expectations by a mile. So much to do, explore and discover and an engrossing story to go along with it.

Terrible game. Fake windows, terrible face animations, terrible physics. Why in 2023 I should play games with fake mirrors? Why main characters clothing newer become wet after swimming or dirty after fight? Why open world is so empty? Don’t waste your time and money. This game is totally overpriced!

After 18h I am amazed with what Devs did with the univers. The world and the castle is wonderful. Technically runs okay on PC but could be better. This not a game for average PC :)

Beautiful, cozy and incredibly detailed, Hogwarts Legacy suffers from overabundance of side activities that offer no story, substance or good gameplay. [page 42]

The success of Hogwarts Legacy clearly shows that good sales and warm feedback from players are ensured not so much by the gameplay thought out to the smallest detail but by carefully reproducing the right atmosphere. But this is already a subtle moment, akin to real magic, and here the nameless developers of Avalanche Software succeeded.

Hogwarts Legacy is an altogether excellent port of Wizarding World to PC screens. It proudly belongs to the Young Adult fiction genre, which may make immersion difficult for older gamers.
