The new money lives up to the Blood Money in this darkly comic, icy cool stealth/brain-teaser/drop-a-toilet-on-a-target's-head-'em-up. It's a hit, man.

A triumph in both mechanics and delivery, Hitman turns its controversial episodic release model into a true strength that's suited to IO's vast and nuanced sandboxes.

There's definitely something addictive in the new Hitman, especially when revisiting the same locations over and over again - thanks to interesting challenges. Level design is impressive and multiple ways to eliminate targets will keep you occupied for a long time.

IO Interactive brings the Hitman series back in grand style. Not every level is Season 1 is amazing, but at it's best, Hitman contains some stunning settings, amazingly detailed level designs, and a vast number of ways to kill your target. It's handicapped a bit by its online implementation, but if you can get past that, you'll find one of the best games in the series.

Stealthy disguises lead into explosive moments of improvisation. Best-laid plans come to fruition through opportunities, and carefully timed, critical moments mean the difference between a master stroke and a quick death. The 2016 Hitman offers the best of its kind, with an episodic structure that clicks, sandbox playgrounds to pick apart and brilliant design and presentation on all levels.

With six big sandbox-locations the first season’s campaign for agent 47 is offering various challenges, how to fulfill each mission. On top, there is a lot more to do with escalation-missions, user generated contracts and elusive targets. The gameplay allows classic hitman-stealth with silent kills as well as all-guns-blazing if you’re that kind of player. Lots of disguise-possibilities, weapons and gadgets makes it fun to play various times. Some lacks with the AI and graphic-issues have to be dealt with and if you’re expecting a complete storyline, that is not happening in Season 1.

This physical edition of the new Hitman contains all the six episodes (previously released only in digital format) and a plethora of new content, including the soundtrack and the making of. Everything to make a Hitman - and the stealth genre - fan happy.

At the end of the season Hitman turned out to be a great game, arguably the best in the series. [13/2016, p.60]

Agent 47 returns in an exceptional way, thanks to an emblematic level design with dynamic gameplay mechanics. Despite minor problems, the iconic experience of the franchise is now stronger than ever.

Those who regard Skyrim as a virtual tourism app, will enjoy exploring every nook and cranny in Hitman. If I had to pick just one reason to play this game, it's because you can immerse yourself in its meticulously created mini-worlds.

Hitman is back. Confident design and a willingness to experiment produces some of the best missions of 47's long career.

The story may be a bit thin, but as far as gameplay is concerned, Hitman is an assassin's dream come true.

Square Enix's decision to separate the game into several episodes and market the game as a “Season” may interrupt with the storytelling of the game, but it also takes the game back to its roots, putting you in a sandbox full of opportunities and choices. Not all of the episodes are on par with each other and the “Opportunities” helping method makes the game feel a bit too easy and straight forward. But other than that, the game is a great addition to the series and fans of the series (especially “Blood Money” fans) would love it.

Who cares about the episodic release when Hitman Season 1 can offer a compelling, smart and entertaining experience, just like Hitman games should do? The gameplay is strong and, despite a plot that is lacking deepness, the season is fun and some maps, like Sapienza and Hokkaido, have a lot of replay value.

Classy slealth mix of savage and slapstick, with just one duff level in an otherwise choice selection. [Christmas 2016, p.77]

Delayed gratification from the episodic release schedule or not, this 2016 take on Hitman is a brilliant game. Expansive level design and nearly unlimited replay value courtesy of so many routes to your assassinations (and so many methods with which to carry them out) make the experience almost completely different each and every time you play. Yes, Agent 47 took his time getting here, but it was time well spent.

Agent 47 started strong and after a continuous up and down with every episode finishes on a rather low note. The episodic format works well overall, though, and contains some of the most memorable locations of the Franchise. Something that can’t be said about the AI.

New adventures of a bald assassin make the Hitman game playable for newcomers as well as for hardcore fans ¬thanks to the rich content and a wide set of options – surprisingly without major compromises, although not without some technical issues.

The season ends with a cliffhanger of sorts – of course – which sets it up for Season Two; still, I’m still left wondering what exactly is happening. Perhaps played all at once, Hitman‘s story would make sense, but this episodic system has done nothing for it.

Hitman: Season One has it where it counts. Its ten missions consist of far more hits than misses, and its open-ended levels are able to sustain hours of obsessive repetition and mastery. The overarching narrative may be unimpressive, but each location is well-conceived and believable, full of fascinating details and hilarious overheard conversations.
  2. If rushed through as a six-map story-led affair you’re perhaps going to feel a little short-changed, both in terms of length and in terms of dramatic satisfaction. I very strongly recommend playing it the way I did: it’s been so refreshing. Make each level the focus of a string of weeknights, exploring every corner and taking out every target, rather than ditch it the second you’ve played it once.

Hitman isn't a very bad game, but it definetly suffers from several problems that keep it far from the good game it could have been. So,Hitman isn't a very bad game, but it definetly suffers from several problems that keep it far from the good game it could have been. So, what's good and what's wrong with it ?

    Pros:
    * Level design: I must be honest, levels are huge and well made. And they feel alive. Very good point on that.
    * Graphics: Hitman is not the most beautiful game of the year, but is far from being bad. Everything look good enough to keep you in the game, so why ask for more ?

    Cons:
    * Online: Why is that ?! The game is purely solo ! I played all the Hitman series because of that, so why would I want to be online to play this one ? Damn it !
    * Ease: Everything is way too easy in this new Hitman. Opportunies are fun for 5 minutes, but that's it. Without a proper online connection, you can't have all the fun you paid for.
    * Story: what story ? Oh wait... there no real story in that game, just some "teasing" to keep you buy the next "season".
    * Season: really ? Selling the game piece by piece ? With no proper reason ?

    TLDR:
A castrated version of Hitman Blood Money for casual non-Hitman-fans.
No more dual-wielding Silverballers, no more
    TLDR:
A castrated version of Hitman Blood Money for casual non-Hitman-fans.
No more dual-wielding Silverballers, no more weapon-costumization, no more "media-coverage" of your killings when ending missions, less maps and allways online-DRM.

    Handholding: The Game!

The game is designed around force-feeding you information everywhere you go. It shows you the state of enemies, sneaks X-Ray-Vision into the game and does handholding for even the smallest tasks.
Sure, all can be turned off, but some areas are so cramped that you'll be catching yourself doing the X-Ray just "one more time" (instead of letting the camera show you the position and make you figure out the best way of approach!)

Are the huge maps beautiful and full of life?
    Yes, they are.
But there are only 6 maps! (!!!)

And where Blood Money gave you replayability with enhanced guns, guns you could mod and upgrade with your earned money (none of that here!),
here its just some new "tasks" to do,
all of them right in your face.

No more figuring out different strategies for yourself, the game tells you nearly every way of kills!
Even with the handholding turned off, the "online contracts" are shoved into your throat, giving away all of the pre-planning!

The story tries to demystify 47 again, with painful dialogue and a plot thats written like bad fanfiction by a teenager (I saw it got even worse with HITMAN 2 !).

Like I said: Even with all the hand-holding deactivated, the game plays like on rails, and tries
to hang the carrot in front of your face like "new weapons" (Pistols shoot all the same btw!) or entry-points.

The controls are dumbed down (again) and illogical at times (E for use but G for different actions).

    ALLWAYS ONLINE:
In case your internet-connection dies (like - who knows? Provider needs to fix the cables, slow internet, playing somewhere without internet),
    your GAME DIES!

In Offline you can't change entry-points (you know? the whole point of the f******g "reward"-systen in "Hitman" ?!) and your load-out-screen freezes!

When in Offline, you don't have any statistics after finishing the level. Great isn't it?
(the statistics are ugly anyway, since they don't come in the cool Blood-Money-Styled media-coverage!).

All in all its not a real Hitman-game.
Its more of a puzzle-solving-game, that wants you to finish the puzzle in a specific order and punishes you if you try different ways (especially if these ways involve fire-arms!).
