Expand

Hitman isn't a very bad game, but it definetly suffers from several problems that keep it far from the good game it could have been. So, what's good and what's wrong with it ?

Pros: * Level design: I must be honest, levels are huge and well made. And they feel alive. Very good point on that. * Graphics: Hitman is not the most beautiful game of the year, but is far from being bad.

    * Graphics: Hitman is not the most beautiful game of the year, but is far from being bad. Everything look good enough to keep you in the game, so why ask for more ?

    Cons:
    * Online: Why is that ?! The game is purely solo ! I played all the Hitman series because of that, so why would I want to be online to play this one ? Damn it !
    * Ease: Everything is way too easy in this new Hitman. Opportunies are fun for 5 minutes, but that's it. Without a proper online connection, you can't have all the fun you paid for.
    * Story: what story ? Oh wait... there no real story in that game, just some "teasing" to keep you buy the next "season".
    * Season: really ? Selling the game piece by piece ? With no proper reason ?

    TLDR:
A castrated version of Hitman Blood Money for casual non-Hitman-fans.
No more dual-wielding Silverballers, no more weapon-costumization, no more "media-coverage" of your killings when ending missions, less maps and allways online-DRM. Handholding: The Game! TLDR:
A castrated version of Hitman Blood Money for casual non-Hitman-fans.
No more dual-wielding Silverballers, no more weapon-costumization, no more "media-coverage" of your killings when ending missions, less maps and allways online-DRM.

    Handholding: The Game!

The game is designed around force-feeding you information everywhere you go. It shows you the state of enemies, sneaks X-Ray-Vision into the game and does handholding for even the smallest tasks.
Sure, all can be turned off, but some areas are so cramped that you'll be catching yourself doing the X-Ray just "one more time" (instead of letting the camera show you the position and make you figure out the best way of approach!)

Are the huge maps beautiful and full of life?
    Yes, they are.
But there are only 6 maps! (!!!)

And where Blood Money gave you replayability with enhanced guns, guns you could mod and upgrade with your earned money (none of that here!),
here its just some new "tasks" to do,
all of them right in your face.

No more figuring out different strategies for yourself, the game tells you nearly every way of kills!
Even with the handholding turned off, the "online contracts" are shoved into your throat, giving away all of the pre-planning!

The story tries to demystify 47 again, with painful dialogue and a plot thats written like bad fanfiction by a teenager (I saw it got even worse with HITMAN 2 !).

Like I said: Even with all the hand-holding deactivated, the game plays like on rails, and tries
to hang the carrot in front of your face like "new weapons" (Pistols shoot all the same btw!) or entry-points.

The controls are dumbed down (again) and illogical at times (E for use but G for different actions).

    ALLWAYS ONLINE:
In case your internet-connection dies (like - who knows? Provider needs to fix the cables, slow internet, playing somewhere without internet),
    your GAME DIES!

In Offline you can't change entry-points (you know? the whole point of the f******g "reward"-systen in "Hitman" ?!) and your load-out-screen freezes!

When in Offline, you don't have any statistics after finishing the level. Great isn't it?
(the statistics are ugly anyway, since they don't come in the cool Blood-Money-Styled media-coverage!).

All in all its not a real Hitman-game.
Its more of a puzzle-solving-game, that wants you to finish the puzzle in a specific order and punishes you if you try different ways (especially if these ways involve fire-arms!).

Definitely GOTY for me, flawless revival of one of my favorite franchises. 1* because you are required to be connected to the internet and you be forced to restart your game if their servers go out. What a shame.

Hitman is a good game, it really is. But I don't play online games, it isn't want I do, I don't want social features, I don't want my data streamed to third parties. I played through a couple of levels and realized, I can't make any progression. There is nothing to unlock, no challenges to complete. In other words, it has 2 costs, the label cost in hard money, and the on going data mining value and metrics you provide. Happy to pay, just not enough to hand my data out on top. Free+Data vs Pay. I don't expect and am not stupid enough to pay both fees. Here is to a good game spoiled by business choices. Expand

It's just not "hitman". Gone are the difficulty levels, First person options. Maps, layout, planning. you go in blind, you play blind, your forced to be looking over his shoulder and can see nothing. Very frustrating. Infinitely better than absolution, but thats not saying a lot. Second worst of the entire series... but looks very pretty.

My advice unless you have a comprehensive keyboard and like very linear rigid game play you might want to give this one a miss.

Such a shame this used to be a great franchise. Oh well......

Forced online, are you kidding me? I can't believe this is making the same mistakes and I can't believe this was released so unfinished. I just don't get it.

Seriously, the game forces you to play online all the time to unlock weapons and appearances when that in previous games such as blood of money could be done without the need for it to be online, you only had to get the weapons of an enemy to make them available to that you use them and to top it all they eliminated things that in the blood of money they did well like the rating or paySeriously, the game forces you to play online all the time to unlock weapons and appearances when that in previous games such as blood of money could be done without the need for it to be online, you only had to get the weapons of an enemy to make them available to that you use them and to top it all they eliminated things that in the blood of money they did well like the rating or pay system in addition to the fact that the map is no longer intuitive as it was in the previous hitman games sincerely I played all the titles of hitman, and I can say that agent 47's franchise was never an online franchise final score 3 Expand

Square Enix's decision to separate the game into several episodes and market the game as a “Season” may interrupt with the storytelling of the game, but it also takes the game back to its roots, putting you in a sandbox full of opportunities and choices. Not all of the episodes are on par with each other and the “Opportunities” helping method makes the game feel a bit too easy and straight forward. But other than that, the game is a great addition to the series and fans of the series (especially “Blood Money” fans) would love it.

New adventures of a bald assassin make the Hitman game playable for newcomers as well as for hardcore fans ¬thanks to the rich content and a wide set of options – surprisingly without major compromises, although not without some technical issues.
