    This game is complete VR garbage. If the developers are going to force people to buy a VR just to play this trash game, the least they could do is make it immersive. It fails to do that with so many invisible walls. The AI in this game is incredibly stupid. The voice acting for the monsters are cringeworthy. These greedy developers are asking for too much money for a gimmicky game. I recommend you wait until this game is $5 before picking it up.    … Expand

    Most polished VR experience I have ever had. Frankly, I know nothing about the Half Life series, and even as a stand alone game with no context this is easily the best be title I have ever played in VR and frankly my second favorite game of all time, with my favorite being Super Mario World. (Sorry, no game with de-throne the only game I literally will never get tired of playing)

    Favorite VR game so far, beating out my previous favorite Boneworks. Fantastic story telling and wonderful atmosphere with a nice 11-13 hour campaign. I do wish there were more variety of weapons, having only three weapons, and two that are very similar, made the combat a little meh at times. The gun scopes became useless when compared to using a laser, as aiming down the sights was moreFavorite VR game so far, beating out my previous favorite Boneworks.     Alyx delivers a masterpiece that will undoubtedly raise the standard for all of VR gaming - and just like its predecessors, it has innovated in such a way that the whole industry will follow in.

    Wow, I just finished. I can't believe that not only is there a new Half-Life game, but it's in VR and 100% lives up to the quality of HL1 and HL2. This is without a doubt the best VR game ever made. It's also one of the best looking games I have ever played (sometimes I would pick up a clock or a hotel card, hold it up to my face, and fail to find any "tells" that I was looking at aWow, I just finished. I can't believe that not only is there a new Half-Life game, but it's in VR and 100% lives up to the quality of HL1 and HL2. This is without a doubt the best VR game ever made. It's also one of the best looking games I have ever played (sometimes I would pick up a clock or a hotel card, hold it up to my face, and fail to find any "tells" that I was looking at a digital rendering and not a real object) and a wonderful example of thrilling game design.

    Any concerns I initially had about there being too much humor faded after I realized I was playing a pretty scary horror game and that the humor is just there to keep things from getting unbearably bleak. The writing is sharp, the acting is fantastic, and Valve keeps each new area full of interesting surprises.

    Combat is surprisingly challenging. There are a lot of things to juggle, between keeping your guns loaded and accessing you inventory mid-combat while not getting mowed down instantly. Alyx is not Gordon Freeman and does not have a magical bullet suit, so she dies very quickly if you don't retreat or stay in cover.

    The level of immersion is off the charts, even for a VR game, in part because of the absolutely gorgeous Source 2 engine and Valve's top-tier art team and level designers. There is also plenty here for Half-Life fans to enjoy, with familiar characters, enemies, and weapons making appearances.

    Also, the gravity gloves are brilliantly implemented, and strike the perfect balance between utility and being overpowered. They are not the gravity gun, and you will not be mowing down fools by hitting them with a cinder block at Mach 3. They're more for grabbing distant items and to keep you from having to bend over all the time to pick things up.

    All in all, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. Valve did it.    … Expand

Being the biggest vr investment yet, it is absolutely worth the wait, as you go deep in city 17 or when you meet the briefcase guy who makes that deal. The game is so detailed and the best experience you can possibly have on vr, despite that the game only has 3 weapons, the upgrades system is pretty well made as it rewards players for exploring specially that all the upgrades are useful at some point and will not let your gun down anytime soon.… Expand

    As far as this game is concerned. It's an absolutely fantastic VR title. Polish is top-tier. Alyx is a fantastic in and of itself and I'm basing this review on that.

    As a Half-Life game, it strays a LOT from its roots. The fact that you have to meander your way through rooms and movement is either slow or jumpy, and there's no jump option, etc... this game isn't a lot like its predecessors. So I get why some people are rating it poorly. A lot of things were sacrificed on the altar of comfort. And that is sad.

    The above points all considered, I'm still giving this a 10. It's the best VR title I've ever played and it's an absolutely great game in its own right. Just because it isn't what fans of the series might have wanted doesn't mean it's not an amazing game on its own two feet.    … Expand

    This is a very well polished game, however they definitely developed it with comfort in mind. The gameplay mechanics are simple and frankly could use a boost from looking at Boneworks. Fewer bugs than Boneworks, but still. It’s an over all great game.

Also, like when HL2 introduced the most rich world in physics, Alyx brings to VR the most interactive world ever, everything can be touched, manipulated, thrown... you can even play the piano xDBest VR game out there for sure.     2 hours in and it's fantastic. Best looking vr game, and it's a full on rollercoaster just like the previous HL games. Would give it a 9 because it's lacking smooth turning, but considering the ammount of salty people dropping a 0, i'll go with a 10.

    Bought the index just for this game. While waiting for the game to be released I played a couple of VR titles and nothing comes even close to HL: Alyx. The level design is incredible and you're fully immersed while playing it's rather fantastic. If you have a headset during quarantine pick this one up, it's going to baffle you!

    Every half-life has set a new bar and this is no different, the game was designed for comfort but while bringing the advanced options to players so you can climb ladders vault over railing and more.     Optimized, only minor bugs for a day one release, outstanding in term of graphics, gameplay and physics. Is this game still a half life ? It's a modern half life and I want more. If you already like what you see from a computer, you won't belive it once in vr.

If you don't have VR and you have the money for it get it, it is worth it for the experience. Most of the bad reviews are people that are mad that they don't have VR so don't mind them they are just trying to ruin the score/rating. This isAbsolutely incredible game, would highly recommend it.     Don’t listen to the troll reviews! Valve has worked hard on this game and made it compatible for even the most affordable HMDs. There are more ways to use movement, such as smooth locomotion instead of teleportation. Ladder movement has been fixed! The level design, sound design, graphics and puzzles are phenomenal.

    This game is amazing to the people who like the series and like VR. I am glad that Valve made a VR game because the folks who have a VR headset want more games like this and boneworks. The story is good and the gameplay is immersive. The amount of detail in this game is insaine. If you have a VR this is a must buy game.

    Garbage story that ruins everything that Half-Life 1 and 2 did, what a disgrace. Also the VR is more of a gimmick than a boon. The gameplay is interesting for 30 minutes but then it becomes very boring, it lacks depth.

    I recommend Black Mesa for gamers like me, It was an excellent fan made redo of the OG Half Life. Half Life Alyx is a great VR game, but i believe if it wasnt in VR it wouldnt hold a light to the traditional    A great VR game, but its not as groundbreaking as Half Life 2 was. Enjoying my time with it, but at the same time, kinda wishing i was playing a tradition KB/M Half Life game.

    VR competition is non existent, VR software is mostly experimental and not full thought out AAA games. Alyx is indeed a flushed out AAA game for VR, it was guaranteed to score well with critics.

    После 3 часов игры. (моя первая VR игра) Играю на Index. Пытался играть в разные другие. Не заходит, до тошнит. Теперь об Алексе. Не прекращающийся Вау! Моментов очень много. И понятно нужно находиться "внутри". Снаружи (в тубе) смоотреть как Тренога перешагивает через дома, ну так себе.... Внутри обалдеть. Или попытаться погладить деда по голове. ( а вот минус. Если поставить перед нимПосле 3 часов игры. (моя первая VR игра) Играю на Index. Пытался играть в разные другие. Не заходит, до тошнит. Теперь об Алексе. Не прекращающийся Вау! Моментов очень много. И понятно нужно находиться "внутри". Снаружи (в тубе) смоотреть как Тренога перешагивает через дома, ну так себе.... Внутри обалдеть. Или попытаться погладить деда по голове. ( а вот минус. Если поставить перед ним чашку, он её не убирает. Так себе минус) Но игра настолько реалистична, что ты от неё этого ждёшь.

    Played about 4 hours (30% of the game). First time I write a review in Metacritic. Why 10 and not 9? Because it's my best experience in videogames ever. I've VR headsets since years (Rift DK2) and the first scene from Alyx was a "Woah". Yes, no words. I'm not a HL fan, but I can imagine some people crying of happiness.     Finally, a reason that makes owning a VR Headset worth it.
    Great graphics and interesting story line with very fun game play

    Would highly recommend the game to VR and Half-Life fans alike.

    The sound and env, story, graphics I just cant explain, it feels like you are inside the HL universe. really it feels like you are inside CITY 17.

    Believe me. VR is the future if all games as quality as HLA.

    Alyx just ruined every other VR game for me, faak :D
    Trust me: Once you try Alyx you will not want to go back to stuff like skyrim/fallout VR.
    The only bad thing about alyx is to know that it won't last as long as above games.
    Really hoping for valve or other studios to use the engine to create more games with it.

    This is a really great game and the experience is wonderful just like I had at half life 2.

    you always had the time in the world to buy a vr headset!

    This is not Half Life. This is a tech demo meant to sell VR hardware. Where the hell is the Freeman? Where is Half Life 3? These 100 score critic reviews are incredibly suspicious and suggests Valve is paying people off to dampen any legit criticism.    … Expand

    I've had almost constant goosebumps for the first part, and one particular part got me all teary-eyed. And I don't usually get that emotionally invested in VR games. I was speechless at some    OH. MY. GOD!     And oh boy is this a Half-Life game. The environments are incredibly detailed and so Half-Life it makes previous Half-Life games look archaic. As it should be I suppose, given this game is so much newer. But I was worried it might not have that special Half-Life ingredient. Glad to say it does! In spades! Oh my friggin' god it's good!

    Almost everything is interactive beyond what any VR game has done before. And the feeling of presence is the best I've had. You are there! And it's nervewracking. I love it!

    I also have to mention the sounds and music. Half-Life has always had a very special sound to it - basically as important to the Half-Life feel as the world you're inside. And it is also there. Wow, some of those first 50 minutes... Some of the stuff. It was. Yeah, just go play it!    … Expand

    Tried it over an hour, it's really just a generic FPS with a little more interactivity, I really do think VR is just a gimmick, this was my latest and probably last attempt, tried Boneworks and several other titles before this one, VR really needs to mature a lot before I could recommend it.

Буквально, ты всё можешь взять, потрогать, покрутить, бросить и т.д. Геимплей. Ну разве здесь надо что-то говорить? Неужели не было понятно насколько он хорош по трейлерам и официальному геимплею? Это лучшие механики из прошлых частей с добавлением ничем не хуже новых. Хочется отметить, что новая часть не держит в постоянном напряжении, дает порой осмотреться, это скорее плюс. Про сюжет же ничего не могу сказать, т.к. не могу его понять, посмотрев всего 5 минут прямой трансляции на ютуб :)… Expand

    This is the first time since I tried for the first time Virtual Reality I can say with no caveats this technology is here to stay. One of the most impressive experience I have had with a game, and the most important thing, is fun as hell to play. A must if you own a VR device compatible with this games (sorry PSVR users).

    Don’t listen to the troll reviews! Valve has worked hard on this game and made it compatible for even the most affordable HMDs. There are more ways to use movement, such as smooth locomotion instead of teleportation. Ladder movement has been fixed! The level design, sound design, graphics and puzzles are phenomenal.

    It’s really not that Hal-life, that was expected by fans for years. I think it is made for selling Vavle’s versions of VR. After Boneworks it’s no pleasure to play Alyx.

    A game with a very exciting plot, this is a continuation of the legendary Half-life series. It turned out even not very bad. There is only 1 minus, but because of it I will not take off the point. This minus is that only on VR and it is very disappointing when some people do not have enough money. 10/10

    This game is the pinnacle of VR. This is what the platform needed and it is what it got. This is an experience no one should pass up if you can get a VR headset. Thank you Valve!

    Ensure you have a finger tracked setup for this game. Nothing is added by using VR for this game, a bad shot at trying to breathe some life into VR using a beloved franchise.

    A special mention should be made of the game's dialog, mainly consisting of Alyx herself and Russel, a scientist who Alex remains in constant communication with throughout the game. Their relationship feels genuine, the conversations between them are enjoyable, and almost all of the intended comedic moments land perfectly, which is something most video games seem to have trouble with.
