    Now there is this thing called being jealous. That is certainly how some people reacted to the game coming out and not being able to play it because they do not own or want the required hardware. I wonder if they have the same reaction to games coming out to consoles etc. that they do not own. Or maybe they just want endless iterations of the game they have played already.     Excellent immersion in a rich familiar world. Seeing a Vortigaunt in front of me adds something that pancake gaming just can't provide. Worth the wait!

    Troll reviews everywhere...The game is amazing and worth your money and time. Physics engine is very well done and the story is just wonderful, The combat system, upgrading weapon, collecting things, all these things just make the game such a good experince! 100/10 for me!

    This game is truly something special. Probably the most immersive experience in VR I have had. I think that all the people who are review bombing this because it's a VR game need to grow up. I understand the want to play a Half-Life game/valve game but can't because they don't have a VR headset. I just said to myself "maybe one day" and went on with my life. The game is a master piece and I love the fact that it is a vr game. This game is so much fun and truly a wonder to behold graphically and the music! My God the music is truly an amazing score. I haven't finished the game yet but I am on chapter 6/11 and have been playing for around and 5 hours. I am going to be really sad when this ride is over and probably play it another time through. this game is truly something special. I hope that others will come around and vr will have more games like this (maybe even portal!). I understand VR is expensive but some should take the jump into it instead of a console I promise it's worth it! (Only do it if you can though don't put yourself in jeopardy just for a game!). Anyway the game is superb and a must if you have a VR headset!!

    To be honest, I can't recall a non-vr game having such awesome photorealistic graphics. Now seeing such    Valve have always been famous for pushing technical boundaries further in games. The company that made Half Life, Steam, SteamController, Valve index and 2 most popular online games ever now presented a game changing VR game utilizing newest technology and bringing it to masses.
    To be honest, I can't recall a non-vr game having such awesome photorealistic graphics. Now seeing such mindblowing level of visual fidelity in VR, the deeply detailed world while having a constant high rate FPS - this shows who is the Boss of video games industry. Not just Vavle is the Boss of All Games being Steam, but they still make killer games at a level that no studio can beat. They have best programmers and artists. Valve produced the best VR game ever existing to date, and made an important contribution in popularizing virtual reality headsets.    … Expand

Yes, it may not be what you expected, but please do not underestimate the game's rating, judging by the ending and what valv says, there are plans to really develop the series further. It all depends on the success of Alix. Releasing a game only for virtual reality is a decent price for developing a product that is innovative in every sense. Physics, graphics, sounds, shooting, ambient, music, a new, fresh look at the universe and a lot of small details closely related to the history of the game world, which I stared at in the game for dozens of minutes, and from the very end almost lost consciousness. This is a really great game that set the quality bar for VR projects for years to come and attracted the interest of many people who don't even know anything about headsets. P.S. I urge everyone who has not played the game not to put a bad rating on the game. Optimization by the way is excellent I have 1060 6gb and i5 9-series and it goes great, for all time there were only two fpsdrops, which I can not say about the same Boneworks.… Expand

    This is the best Half Life game to date. I did not expect Valve to top a Half Life game for VR but they did. This is the most detailed and fully immersed game I have ever seen and I can not wait to see what else Valve makes for VR.

    There are a lot of problems in the game. Worst Valve's game for sure, except Artifact. Also requires way too much PC power (bad optimization) and additional VR equipment.

    - No sprinting, no crouching, no jumping - only teleportation, witch instantly brakes immersion - No smooth turning, it really makes you motion sick fast enough - No arms, only floating hands really look weird -    There are a lot of problems in the game. Worst Valve's game for sure, except Artifact. Also requires way too much PC power (bad optimization) and additional VR equipment.

    - Terrible voice acting of Alyx, really lame jokes and annoying Russel

In my opinion-this is a great game, with unique interactions and great graphics, as well as mechanics, and all this is not something that is not worse than in Boneworks, it's better! The same hands in Boneworks are implemented much worse than gloves, especially since they have very serious problems with displaying, when in half life the elbows are still taken into account, but simply are not displayed. The graphics component is much better in Half-life (especially for VR). And everyone's favorite game series Portal black humor, no worse than in the same series of games Portal. Half-life: Alyx - rightfully deserves a place in the series of games Half-life, it is not worse than the expected part 3, and given that it is for VR, it can even be better.
    I will also add that "this is for the owners of VR, and it costs a lot, valv rolled down", this is a unique VR gaming experience, and it is simply impossible to transfer it on the keyboard with the mouse! From the outside, people who whine about it look like mobile gamers who whine that games are for PC, only for PC, "hmm, why don't developers port all their PC projects to the phone", maybe because on a small screen, 2 quarters of which are occupied by touch buttons - the entire full-fledged gaming experience can not be transferred... VR is a new era in the gaming industry, and VALVe had to show that it is a full-fledged gaming platform, and not toys for freaks, just as they once did in 1998.     I've actually played the game.

    I've only played a few hours but HL Alyx is already a 10/10 for me. The saddest part of playing HL Alyx is it's so good it ruins pancake (2D) games for me.

    That's by far the most advanced game in terms of grahics and playability that I have ever seen. The narrative is unbeliveable, it keeps you tense, happy, sad, along the whole game. They did an amazing job, That's a great, GREAT, opportunity to comeback to the HL universe, with a fullblast this time. I really want to see this winning the game of year. **** amazing.

Even though I had low expectations for the game play, I still wanted to play it out because of the amazing story line valve had created for this game.
    Well it turned out to be one of the worst games I've ever played and completely ruined the franchise series for me. As someone who played the previous Half Life games over and over before, I can say Half Life Alyx is the biggest let down of any game I have ever played. This game is not only super easy but also extremely boring. It simply doesn't challenge the gamer at all. Common enemies such as antlions used to be a menace in the past games, being able to fly around and would spawn by the dozens and actually put of a difficult fight for the player. Now the antlions just walk at you in such slow motion that you could put the VR set down for 30 seconds and then come back to it and the antlions would just be catching up to you. It's not just the antlions that changed though. Every enemy you face that doesn't have a weapon will just walk at you like a zombie and are so easy to put down even if the enemy reaches you, it will swing at you in such slow motion that its so easy to dodge. If you stay moving around you will not die at all. seriously. Anyone that is decent at video games can literally play this entire campaign though without dying once if they tried. The only enemies you kind of have to worry about is the combine which actually have weapons to shoot at you. However don't worry too much as they have worse than stormtrooper aim. Really the only way to die is if you just stand still in fights which no gamer with any common sense would do. Originally i thought i was playing on a beginner difficulty or something because of how easy the game was. It seemed like just a target practice game and gave me no motivation to want to keep playing it but I did just so I can see the ending.
    The only thing this game had going for it was the graphics. The storyline was bland and pointless. you find yourself just walking around different places with no actual big picture to the game, just in the moment missions such as turn on the power switch in a building. Its pretty much just roaming around on a set path killing grunts. Unlike the past games when you play as Gordan with an overall mission of saving the planet and taking out the combine leader.
    The last thing I wanted to do was say anything bad about valve or the Half Life series but come on, this was an absolute joke. Anyone writing a good review clearly has never played the past games of this series. I understand that they needed to tailor the enemies towards a VR gameplay but this game extremely lacks challenging the player. I mean maybe its a challenge if you're like 12 years old with bad hand-eye coordination, but to me it was a boring let down. The scenery is good, like the first 10 minutes I enjoyed looking around admiring how far valve's graphics have come. but once you start getting in fights that seem to be against tutorial level enemies. You really start to lose interest. I would have rather this been really hard to play than this easy. I think the only thing valve tried on was the graphics, which no where near makes up for the terrible gameplay and storyline. And its not like the graphics are that great, like yeah they are better than 10 years ago but obviously they should be after a whole decade. id only give it like a 7 or 8 out of 10 for graphics which isn't anything special.
    The way I see it, VR is NOT the future of gaming, at least for shooter games. VR shooters are gonna need some serious work because it was not fun to play at all even with such a great franchise to back it up. All this game did was ruin the franchise series for me and make me have no interest in playing any other shooter game that comes out for VR. Overall it was a boring boring boring let down which should be avoided at all cost. Especially, do not play this if you were a fan of the past Half Life's. Even if you have never played the past ones don't play this because it will give a terrible impression on what used to be an amazing series. Sad to watch something that was so great die.    … Expand

    Excellent, the immersion is on point. The gameplay is excellent. The story is as good for fans as it is for new players to HL. A must have for VR users.

    FEW little glitches, No 2 handed weapon and much more gunfight then narrative ( i'm more into the narrative style of previous Half life ) are my negative points
    Just get it, if you don't have a VR headset, Get one, this is the future, i get my Oculus Rift S for 350€, So don't buy a console and buy a VR headset ;)    … Expand

    One further comment to movement options: This game is clearly designed to be used with teleportation/dash movement and not for free locomotion. I always though that free locomotion would bring the best immersive feeling, but I changed my opinion completely. I think that the dash movement is much less immersion breaking than the free locomotion option.

    The reason is simple: When freely moving with a thump-stick you are moving all the time, even for small distances as it is the most convenient way (humans are lazy). But this means that you are all the time disconnected from your real movement and it feels more like sitting in a cockpit.

    In the dash mode however, it is easier to just walk one step in your play area if an object (for example a door) is close enough. So I really get around in my play area a lot and it feels like I am really there. Of course to move greater distances you need to dash, but I think it feels really good and immersive because the audio effects are so great that it kind of feels as if you are moving there.

    Surely, from time to time, you get too close to the boundary of your play area and then you need to step back and dash forward, but for me this is way less immersion breaking than moving all the time independent of your body, since in total you have much more time to be completely immersed in the game.

    Also I think it is better to disabled snap turning as you are more immersed in the game if you turn manually in real life (you need cable management though.)    … Expand

    New standard for VR. Immersive gameplay with tense moments. Fun mechanics and just overall very fluid. I was never a Half-Life fan because I just never really got into the past games, but this one reeled me in without having to have any prior knowledge. Hopefully other VR games follow suit because this is really a AAA quality game, one of the first ones for VR.

    Valve only put out Half Life games when it broke boundries and did something new. A flat screen Half Life would feel ancient at this point and it only made sense that I was VR. People calling Valve Greedy? They are not even turning a profit on this game. This game is a masterpiece and I can't wait to see what Valve does next in the VR space.

    This is peak VR, the audio, visuals, animations, atmosphere, and interactivity is all incredible. I can't wait to see more games like this in the future. I'm surprised how well it looks and runs on a GTX 2060, one of the best looking games I've played and it's in VR which is quite the accomplishment.

You can use your bare hands to interact with all the objects around you in such a natural way. I was immediately IN THIS WORLD. You'll forget your real space, but beware of the walls in your room :).     It's so intense! Half Life reached the next level with VR. If you never played in VR, give it a try and do it slowly because Alyx is so immersive you can have some problems as beginner. Especially movement should be set to teleport for beginners to avoid instant motion sickness, veterans use smooth locomotion and have the best experience of their VR life!

    A true watershed moment for VR. It doesn't reinvent the wheel when it comes to VR gameplay, rather it polishes everything to a AAA sheen, adds a few clever solutions to VR interactivity problems like the gravity gloves, and delivers the best single player game I've played in years.

    Every single area in the game is so well made. The game does very well balancing introducing new players to VR and keeping VR veterans up on their toes. Interactivity is amazing and everything feels as if it works as if you'd expect. Probably one of the best video games I've ever played.     I give a 9 out of 10 considering it's a VR-game and my gosh, what game it is. The moment the game loads up and you stand on the balcony overlooking the city was already enough for me to know, this is a work of passion. The feeling of the city is just right. Every object in it feels credible, the sounds, the atmosphere, even the graphics are the best I encountered in a VR game. So far,I give a 9 out of 10 considering it's a VR-game and my gosh, what game it is. The moment the game loads up and you stand on the balcony overlooking the city was already enough for me to know, this is a work of passion. The feeling of the city is just right. Every object in it feels credible, the sounds, the atmosphere, even the graphics are the best I encountered in a VR game. So far, gameplay is pretty standard, but fun. The puzzles so far? Easy but change a lot. The gunplay? Solid, even though I find the feedback and the size of the pistol a bit off.

    Gamechanger? Systemseller? Not really. Even though you don't need an expensive Vive Index (playing it on the OG Vive with normal wands), the prices of headsets, the discomfort of the cables, the weight of the headsets, the quality of the lenses, still need improvement. But we are on the right track. If you have VR, I definitely say: GO BUY IT!

    Very polished, intense, and immersive. The immersion in VR is amazing. I spent 4 hours in the game and only quit because it was midnight and I have work today. Will be playing tonight for sure.

    This is from far the best VR game that I ever played. the storyline is excellent and you feel completely immersed as soon as you put your headset on. I recommend it for anybody who is thinking about getting it you will not be disappointed. VR is the future and I'm happy to be part of it. Thanks again valve for this masterpeice.

    The Most disappointing game ever......

    I loved Half Life and Half Life 2, I grew up on them and did the whole map making thing, and played thousands of hours of Counter Strike. So you can imagine how excited I was for this game, especially thinking it would be so innovative inside VR.     It's not innovative at all though, it has the same problems as every other VR game, and in most cases of gameplay mechanics, they have been done better. What Valve could have done is bought the Superhot developers and turned that into a full game like they did Portal. I just find Half Life Alyx boring, and not only that it's clunky and horrible to control and play.

    On top of that the writing doesn't feel like Half-Life, it's not even funny like it's trying to be, and has nothing on Portal 2... did all the talent leave Valve?

    WORST of all, Alyx is being voiced by someone else, she doesn't sound like her, and it's so distracting... I feel like I have no emotional connection to the character as a result.    … Expand

    The only letdown for me personally is the lack of any    Half-Life: Alyx takes VR to the next level with its immersive story and locales, combined with superb gameplay and intriguing puzzles. As a Half-Life fan I definitely think this is a worthy entry to the series, and while I understand that the game being VR only is a letdown for many, I can not imagine this game on any other platform.

    The only letdown for me personally is the lack of any proper melee combat, which will reduce the score a point for me, honestly. Nevertheless, the game has exceeded my expectations, and I hope that those who are sitting on the sidelines without a VR headset get the chance to play it in the near future.     Nothing much to say except that its a great game that feels like a full triple A release for the VR. The valve index controllers make for an even better and more immersive experience. I would recommend to anyone with a compatible VR headset.

    Best VR game yet. The gameplay feels super smooth after a while, especially moving/jumping around and interacting with items and guns by using the gloves. It is everything I've been looking forward to.

    A Game VR was waiting for!
    Half life really inovate everytime a new Game comes along.
    Revisiting this universe that since 1998 has been my fav game of all time was and Is a great experience.
    VR features are solid and well planed, from opening a door to the combat, it is not some VR generic game.
    The atmosphere is Awesome, You really fell like city 17 is Alive.

    I jumped in with unrealistic expectations because it's the first half life game in 12 years but it somehow managed to surpass those expectations.
    It's worth buying a headset just to play it

    Вау вот это погружение-народ, который это пишет вообще в виар не играл? Огромное количество невнятной хрени ввиде сабов которые крутятся с башкой найс, невнятная реализация ходьбы
    Теперь о главном
    Але снг,где нули гейб не дал ру азвучку. Рефорджу вы же понаставили. Дальше больше , сюжет. Хотя какой сюжет письмена макаки, завязку делали тупа для даунов которые схавают. Ну вот в чем завязка? Батю и алекс повязали и везут в двух разных машинах на 8-10 мест,в двух разных карл. Рояль не просто вышел ,а вылетел на реактивной тяге из кустов.
    Дальше больше в конце алекс оказывается видела джи мена и он ей намекнул на гордона, но падаждите в оригинале это было? Нет. Атличный сценарий. Так же мелкие замечания в виде блевотного телепорта, панцирей у хеткрабов и пластмассовых моделях    … Expand

    This game is a new era of video games. And maybe it’s ahead of its time. No one had ever done anything like this before. Yes, VR equipment is expensive, especially in Russia, but the first iPhone was expensive too. And where is it now? 10/10. It’s the future itself

    A special mention should be made of the game's dialog, mainly consisting of Alyx herself and Russel, a scientist who Alex remains in constant communication with throughout the game. Their relationship feels genuine, the conversations between them are enjoyable, and almost all of the intended comedic moments land perfectly, which is something most video games seem to have trouble with.
