Grit and Valor - 1949 offers a strong combination of alt-history universe and real-time tactics that should have taken a few extra risks. The World War II with big stompy robots concept is easy to grasp and players will quickly understand how positioning and good upgrade choices lead to victories. There’s plenty of variety when it comes to mechs, attached parts, and battle boosts. But given the setting. I wanted to see weirder mech abilities and a wider range of challenges. Grit and Valor - 1949 will satisfy gamers who like fast combat and a solid run-based structure but might struggle to find a wider audience.

Grit & Valor is, in many ways, exactly what I look for in a roguelike - individual runs aren’t too long, so it’s easy to squeeze in a game or two when time is tight, but there’s plenty of incentive for multi-run marathons as well. Between the compelling combat and the excellent visuals, I can see this being a mainstay of my late-night gaming sessions for the foreseeable future.

A pleasant tactical RTS with short but dynamic battles. It will often knock you to your knees only to return stronger and more resilient after upgrading your base. The question is whether you will have enough patience to keep throwing yourself at the imaginary taxis again and again and fight your way to the finale.

Grit and Valor – 1949 pares the real-time strategy genre down to the fundamentals. The results are taut battles between your customized mechs and waves of enemies and bosses. But progression stems from the technical advantage of collected parts more than tactical insights.

Everything works with Grit and Valor -1949, but the repetitive nature of the concept makes it a bit of a slog for long playthroughs.

Enjoyable enough to play for an hour or so, but Grit & Valor – 1949 quickly gave me the feeling of wishing I had the tools I needed to make responsive tactical decisions, and left me wanting to be offered choices that would lead me to different battleplans than the ones I started my runs with. In the end, providing giant robots just wasn’t enough to win the day.
