Grim Fandango is an incredible game. This Remaster is not good. It's buggy, removes music at key moments (like central characters dying), and does not offer the original music. Not only does it not fix bugs present in the original game, it adds additional bugs on top of them.

When asked why the original music was not included as an option, the producer at Double Fine replied that sizes needed to be kept down for the PlayStation Vita, and they didn't want to offer something on the PC without it also being available on the Vita.

The updated textures are ok, but comparable fan projects have been available for years. This isn't a good release.

I lost interest in 5 minutes. If you're going to have a story-driven adventure game, you need some story. You're dropped in a mind-numbingly boring office with no real direction. You pick up random balloon animals and pieces of bread, because in puzzle adventure games, that's totally normal, and I'm sure they'll have wacky, zany things to do with those later on. Monkey Island sets you up right from the start and is actually funny. This is just boring. Expand

This was a great game. It is still a good game. But it had to be a full remaster, not only a little enhancement. I'm disappointed that the game is still in 4:3 and seems to have only little easy changes made to the original game. I know it was a master piece at the time, but it should had have a remastered version in proportion to its reputation.

Same great game that it was many years ago but the graphical changes are not that great and there is still no real 16:9 support

Here is a quick video with comparison between the old and new graphics.

The original game was a masterpiece! The plot, the themes, and overall feeling of it was superb. But that was in 1998!
The remaster hardly remastered anything at all. The backgrounds are still prerendered, propably in higher resolution. So are the cutscenes. It looks even morse now with the crisp colourful 3d models standing out of the scenery. Textures are still with minimalistic

But overall - the game is brilliant, but remaster is more of a re-packaging of the same thing.

A "remaster" of the original Grim Fandango.

You take the role of a grim reaper / travel agent, on the search of a lost client whom ran out of your office when you couldn't do your job correctly- (or so you're led to believe). The story - and setting are both top notch. Grim is at heart, a point and click adventure game, but as it's 3D (one of the pioneers when first released), it was

Grim is at heart, a point and click adventure game, but as it's 3D (one of the pioneers when first released), it was seen as somewhat different- especially with the "tank controls" that the later Lucasarts games started to add.

Voice acting, music and sound is GREAT.

Puzzles in this game get very difficult, nonsenical. At times triggers are done at what seems to be random, where dialogue options open up randomly, or when you can use an object. The feeling of knowing what you want to do, but not knowing exactly what is needed to start the sequence... Grrnnnnnngg!! Half way through the adventure it had me look up FAQ guides online- finishing the game only to see the story. The fun had turned into frustration ;/

    ---
The remaster adds developer commentary to scenes, concept art, new character models, new control scheme (mouse!), and wide-screen support.

Whilst many of these are welcome, it doesn't feel as a "remaster" should.
The character models look almost out of place, infront of the (now) blurry lower resolution backgrounds- even a simple contrast / brightness photoshop touchup would've been welcome.
    Dev commentary was brilliant throughout.

It was obvious that they learnt a lot of things with the Monkey remasters, but also it feels like the team did a semi-lazy job.

    - Recommended for anyone veteran or skilled in Lucasarts adventure games. For anyone else, start with MI!

    Bugs encountered,
    - Keyboard controls sticking, not idle when afk (often)
    - Manny model doing odd things (arm's waving around, odd things)

A shabby game with a fantastic story and great atmospherics. However, the film noir story and aesthetics really carry this game, and are why it became a cult classic. Characters are expertly fleshed out, and basically everything that doesn't involve Meche flows wonderfully and cohesively. Year 3 was a lowpoint because of the departure from the noir feeling, but it's also the shortest year, so it doesn't bother for very long

Игра не залетела, как по мне в нынешнее время смотрится скучновато, сюжетом после часа игры не проникся, ремастер сделан вообще никак, даже переизданием не назвать. Probably the most overrated Lucasarts adventure. It has the freshness, but trying to fit a rather traditional story into the funny atmosphere means it is simply a compromise and does not excel. The engine doesn't do it any favors either

The game hints at you sometimes in a cutscene but since it is rarely too, you can't finish the game without taking any looks at a walkthrough.

The story? Grim Fandango has a very gripping story, it just makes you play despite the puzzles. It may be not one of the best of the mind-blowing plots of all time, but still pretty good. I think the key in this story is you can empathize with Manuel, the character you can control. After that, the story overlaps with the world we live in. But the universe and characters are different. Great universe, great story.

If you have the patience to solve very hard (mostly illogical) puzzles, it would be a good game after all. Not worth the pain.

Charming as the characters are, I found Grim Fandango’s gameplay intermittently grating. Some of the puzzles in the game are so idiosyncratic that they seem predicated less on the deployment of practical reasoning than on the achievement of a mystical mind-meld with the game’s project lead, Tim Schafer, and the rest of the developers.

Even if the mechanisms of this game seem a little dated now, we're reminded how the story and its characters are timeless in their good humour and quality, and in that respect, this Remaster should hold almost as much joy for newcomers as it does for returning fans.

Grim Fandango is one of the greatest adventure games ever made. The remastered edition pays tribute to the original and modernizes only the essential. Now the controls are working, so the whole package is ready to take over the world. [Feb 2015]
