Where are those times when we had good arcade games?

    Forget it!

Codemasters destroyed another good series, could it be even worse? I don't want to see what they can do. Poor career, average graphics, low-res cockpits, average sounds, it's just a game for kids.

I already refunded this poor game.

And I'll tell you what is wrong with GRID 2019.

I played a lot of racing arcades and not arcades: on the steering wheel and on the gamepad. The game tries to look like a semi-arcade game like Forza Motorsport, but the problem is deeper. There is no sense of speed, the view from the cockpit is flawed, just a picture on the monitor. There are no tactile feelings from driving when you fly onto the curb, when the car is drifted - it is brought in right away and oh dicks, you can not drift back through the s-trajectory. Gran turismo players will understand what I mean, GT have are wonderful turns. You can’t enter a controlled drift on a front-wheel drive car, it will also be diverted to the side according to the script. You can’t turn faster when you press the speed pedal, you can’t go through the apexes, as in simulators.

It's with real sadness that I have to say, this game is a disappointment to me.

I loved the original Grid, and I've been a general fan of Codemasters racing games, particularly the Dirt series. When they announced a reboot of the Grid series, promising a spiritual return to the first game in the series, I had hoped for a game that just improved on what made the first game great,

I loved the original Grid, and I've been a general fan of Codemasters racing games, particularly the Dirt series. When they announced a reboot of the Grid series, promising a spiritual return to the first game in the series, I had hoped for a game that just improved on what made the first game great, expanded on the back-then unique features such as team management, and most of all kept (and preferably improved upon) the feeling of ownership, of being a part of this team and progressing.

That isn't there at all. Sure, the racing itself is fine. A bit more arcadey than I would personally prefer, but I can't fault Codemasters for that - they haven't made any attempt to hide what this game is, and that's fine. But that's all there is.
Sure, you can earn money and buy cars in the most simplistic possible way, and you can choose liveries for them, but there's no real feeling of ownership.
You can replace your co-driver, but that's all there is for the team management, and since you never talk to this driver over the radio, there's little feeling of difference. It's just a couple of stats for skill, aggression and so on that get switched out.
You no longer hire sponsors like in the first game, nor can you design a livery that is the face of the entire team.

The career mode is a downright embarrassment. It's just a grid list of races in different categories. Zero feeling of progression and team accomplishments.

The new Grid reminds me of a stripped down Project Cars 1 with arcade physics. And that's not a criticism of Project Cars, because that never pretended to be anything more than racing. But Grid was supposed to be more than that. It was supposed to continue the series' legacy of a certain feeling. Ownership, companionship, team efforts, planning for races and earning new sponsors. And none of that is here. There is no content at all.

    GRID 1 Forever!!!

As an true arcade player I have to say the game is terribly difficult on game-pad, cars slide from one side to the other. AI in the game!!! OMG!!! Is it a punishment? I also have problems with tearing. The tracks are very boring and there are few of them. Oh, and the celebration with confetti after you crossing every race is disgusting and looks very cheap. 0/10.

Lack of originality, there is nothing fresh, just remastered old stuff.
Completely ugly graphics for 2019, sounds are ok, physics meh, but it is a clear arcade game.

Big disappointment for me, like other CM games in 2019.

Such poor gameplay design..the cars feel like that they are stuck on the ground...and on the corners they loose grip like slipping on ice in seconds.
A slightly upgrade from autosport but nothing special as a game.
graphics are ok, sound are ok..but you have to grind "money" in order to get cars ingame.

The worst GRID game ever played. Cars are floating on the road. Worse than many other arcade games. worse than the origin of Grid and Grid 2

This really is a poor game and such a shame, considering this is Codemasters. I used to love the TOCA Touring Car games. yet this release of GRID is such a poor reflection on how great their older games were.

So, where do we start? Okay, how about every car is like Bambi on ice for starters. Can't imagine any of the licensed manufacturers would be happy with the distinct lack of any realism relating to their cars. The racing line is an utter nonsense, as it doesn't factor in car variants like FWD or RWD, which usually handle differently around corners. As for the "career" mode, it's just win race and earn money. "Make your own story" indeed, as you'll need lots of imagination pretending there's a career mode that actually does that. Hiring other team drivers is an absolute waste of time, as no matter how "good" the little stat bars claim they are, they're all utterly useless because AI drivers are terrible. Finally, contact with other cars always seems to favour the AI drivers. They can spin your car off the track with the slightest of touches, yet if I slam into one of them or try to nudge a rear corner to spin them off, they never leave the track. In summary this game is hot garbage, highlighting the utter lack of quality and imagination by supposedly leading development houses and publishers these days. There are far superior driving and racing games by indie developers, made with much more soul and effort, and at a fraction of the price.

It’s disheartening to see that Codemasters wasn’t even trying. On its own, new Grid is an okay arcade racing game, but it’s hard to ignore that the previous one was far better. [Issue#242, p.56]

There’s truly a decent game here with its foundational systems that could be developed into a more well-rounded title. But as it stands this is a £45 game, it is neither fair nor warranted that this game is just okay. Codemaster’s had already promised ahead of its release that Grid (2019) would be receiving a bevy of further racetracks, cars and modes for its player base. Yet with a dwindling interest, this seems too little too late.
