Beautiful history and interesting mechanics. The game is far from be perfect, not so good as RPG and also not good as action, but solid and fun to play.

I have very mixed feelings about this game. No matter how much I wanted to, it was a game that I couldn't get into and I couldn't play for long hours. First of all, the optimization of the game is very bad. The gameplay and story are also very ordinary and boring after a short while. If I manage to play it in the future, maybe I will change the review.

    Solid game.

I just hope the game improves what the first one did good. It just needed to be more darker. the big problem i had with the game were the moral choices. there is only good and bad. you good choices will have NO consequences. (that is really unrealistic) good music AMAZING Heavy armor!! good looking swords and guns. I just wish that they would make Greedfall 2

Even though the world building is good the game follows a narrow linear path, it doesn't feel truly open world which is quite barren and empty, a lot of the areas look the same boring, nothing feels exciting or worth trying to explore as it's just empty and you aren't faced with making any hard drastic choices. You get minor choices such as to spare someone or kill them.
The game doesn't have much depth.

It has quite a lot of errors in dialogue of mixing up him and her, she and he even in the same sentence.
e.g. I was talking to a male NPC as part of a quest and the dialogue to select says: ask her about what he has done since crossing.

Combat is nothing special, rather boring just spam left mouse button a couple of times, dodge and repeat till dead.
In combat companions repeatedly say the same phrases continuously way too much, which is annoying and make the characters seem more like machines and less like real people. Just saying a phrase once in battle would be more realistic or to have much more variety in what they say.

This game is no where near a fantastic game, it doesn't do anything amazing or epic, only does most things sufficiently but not excellently.

I'd rate it 6/10 ok. Needs a lot of improvement to be a good game. I don't hate the game nor do I love it.
I recommend only on sale and if you value story over polish and game play as despite the games short comings I enjoyed following the story and doing most quests.

TL;DR - In lot of ways this game reminds me of Witcher 2, and Mass Effect 1, both in style of game, but also in sense that it feels like it would join the all time greats such as Witcher 3, and Mass Effect 2 if the team behind it had the bigger budget and capacity

Things I disliked most: ❌Lack of environment variety - cities and open-world kind of feel the same. Unique quests do set

    Things I disliked most:
❌Lack of environment variety - cities and open-world kind of feel the same. Unique quests do set them apart, but it is definitely something noticable after 10-15 hours of gameplay
❌ Lack of enemy variety - what I mean by this is mostly aimed at those brown bear-like creatures, there are soo many of them, and it becomes very annoying to see them for 100th time. What makes it noticable is that all of them have this dark/brown color, so even if there is different enemy, because it has same color it feels like it's same enemy.
❌ (small nitpick) Not being able to fast travel from anywhere - this is very small thing, but after ~15 hours it was bit annoying that I couldn't just teleport to other areas, but had to walk to the campfire and then teleport, it's not big issue but something that annoyed me

    Things I liked most:
✔️Ability to solve quests in multiple ways - Here is some example - you can convince guards to let you in, you can disquise yourself as sailor and walk around like in Hitman games, you can craft bomb and blow up wall, you can make sleeping pills and poison drink so guards fall a sleep, or you can just fight through. In my opinion this is essence of great RPG and this game has it! :)
✔️RPG mechanics - charisma, science, crafting, vigor, lockpicking etc. they aren't all feel like they have place and are useful, while at same time not feeling like they are too much
✔️Story, characters and quality of quests - absolute highlight of game, quests are on par with some of the best RPGs out there, very fun.
✔️Being able to pause time in fight and plan out next move - YES, more games need to add this, it reminds me of Dragon Age Origins
✔️Companions - All are unique, interesting, have well written lines, great quests associated with them, and you can romance them. They have been great addition to the journey, and they don't make game too easy, so no reason to not bring them with you.
✔️Boss fights are cool + combat is fun - it's not Sekiro/Elden Ring, but it's pretty good, it doesn't feel too hard, and it doesn't feel too easy, I have played as technician and combat felt balanced on Hard difficulty
✔️Arena - I love when RPG has arena, and this one is fun + has nice quests associated with it.

All in all, I have enjoyed this game very much, and am excited to see what devs do for the future! I will recommend this game to anybody who enjoyed more "talk" oriented RPGs (like Witcher and Mass Effect)

I really wanted to like Greedfall, it looked different to the typical fantasy RPGs. The colonial era setting isn't common, and playing as a colonising force seemed like an interesting take on the genre. In actuality, the game is unappealing and a chore to play. The controls are floaty and the combat is simple and unengaging. It clearly is trying to follow in the footsteps of FromSoft games, and it fails in this regard.
Another missed step is how Greedfall attempts to mimic BioWare RPGs like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. The critical mistake is making the protagonist too fully voiced and giving no real choice. Each dialogue I encountered in the first few hours of the game played out like a cutscene, with usually a small inconsequential choice of what question to ask the NPC. Instead of just asking one thing, my character would launch into entire dialogues. It felt less like a conversation I had any control over, and more like I was in a choose your own adventure novel. I think if the developers had just taken away the choices and made the character how they wanted, it would have turned out better.

The visuals are a letdown, because the design of the world looks good, but the game is so poorly optimised that even with a decently powerful computer, the game shudders and floats even on medium settings. The character designs are cool as well, but terrible facial animation makes cutscenes look awful, like something from the PS3 or XBOX360 at some points.

All in all, I think this game has potential. Buy it on a big sale, try it, and if it doesn't pull you in quickly, return it. If the setting really grabs you, I hope you enjoy it. As one of the few people who enjoys Too Human, I know how much a setting and art direction can make someone love a game other people hate.

A few things make plot-driven Bioware-style RPG stand out: style and setting, focused gameplay, and, unsurprisingly, the plot. Let's get the easy one out of the way: the new world of Teer Fradee island is undoubtedly the exciting and stylish highlight of the game. Outdated graphics and stiff animations are a given for an AA studio, of course, but it’s the designs that count, and Greedfall has some memorable ones. Spiders deserve credit for always trying to come up with something original for their settings, no matter the results. The colonial aesthetic, consistent faction designs and well-realised geography of the island all do a great job of immersing you into the world. The music is nothing special or memorable, but it somehow fits the mood incredibly well. Some environments, especially indoors, are barren and downright repeated, but cutting these corners is understandable.

Now, onto the hard part. The gameplay is a wash. Combat is just adequate, in animations at least (and at last, Spiders!), but there's no system worth exploring, mastering or even mentioning. Exploration, crafting, progression system - all the same: sufficient, shallow, nothing you haven't seen before. It's wrong to decry the game for doing just decently, but Spiders need to step up their game if they want to get noticed, need to add some spice because this gameplay is the equivalent of oatmeal porridge at this point.

Now to the spicy part, then. The colonialism. The game is weird about it. It bashes you over the head with "colonialism bad" and "go green", which is the right message, but it struggles to get nuanced, apart from showing that there are indeed good and bad people on both sides. It's not terribly boring or black-and-white, and as far as themes go this one is not bad at all, but you never feel invested or as you've been told something meaningful. Also, the whole story very much revolves around the magical negro (native in this case) shtick, once again. Good characters might've helped, but barring the player character, De Sardet, who's surprisingly interesting to roleplay, and Siora, your companion and Vergil-type figure on your journey through the native lands, the game lacks any memorable faces.

Greedfall barely manages to make its mediocre gameplay and heavy-handed story not to feel like a slog, so if you're into exploring a beautifully realised native island while feeling smug for doing it the right, environmentalist way and not like your colonialist peers, approach this game leniently.

It's an old school game, with discrete levels in place of a continuous open world; in itself, that's not bad and the levels are large enough, but the graphics are definitely meh, and the yellowish tint doesn't help its visuals. From the very start, the adjective summing up my impressions has been "clunky". Movement, quest structure, the dialogs... it all feels like a low budget C-movie. What really buries any chance of enjoyment is combat. I picked a mage and decided to play, as I almost always do, on hard difficulty. Combat consists of facing 4-5 enemies attacking nonstop, since the rest of your team usually gets KO'ed in about 5 seconds. But hey, cross an invisible line a small distance from where you started and the enemies instantly recover 100% energy, sheathe their weapons and return to their starting point, while your sidekicks also revive. There is a parrying mechanic which works well against humans, but fails miserably on beasts, who have no clear attack pattern. Also, when facing two or three enemies at a time, parrying suddenly loses relevance. A magical dodge/teleport skill transports you in the middle of an enemy group, rather than where you are pointing. In short, combat sucks. Badly.
Oh wait, the rest does too. Cliched characters, cringeworthy dialog, embarrassingly stupid quests, super ultra bland skill tree. While most RPGs are guilty of one or two of the above faults, Greedfall greedily embraces each and every one, maybe that's where the name comes from.

I played Greedfall almost for 60 hours. But it feels like I spend my 40 hours for running, 15 hours for conversations and rest 5 hours for the combat. I played Greedfall almost for 60 hours. But it feels like I spend my 40 hours for running, 15 hours for conversations and rest 5 hours for the combat. I would like to talk about 3 most annoying thing about this game. And I think developers made the first two annoying part to make the game longer but instead they make it boring.

First one is repetitive side quests. If you ready to go same places over and over and over and over again this game is for you. Did you get bored while reading it. Good, because that’s how side quests are. Let me give you an example. In a quest you need to follow a soldier too see where he is going and see that he visits a secret chest. After few more steps you follow a sailor from port to the same secret chest location. Then you turn back to port to inform his captain. The captain wants to see it with her own eyes so you took her to location. Then after a quick fight the captain you inform gives her thanks to you and return to the port. After you loot the corpse of the sailor guess what. You need to go back to port to give the goddamn loot to captain who was with you few minutes ago. Almost all side quests are the same. You visit same barracks, same tavern and governor buildings thousands of times. And every tavern, barracks and governor buildings are copy paste of each other.

As for the second annoying part of this game. There is invisible walls all around. There is no minimap in this game instead they put same indicator from skyrim on top and the big map itself looks too messy that you can easily go to wrong road. A little example, there is two roads in front of you and you go to the left one by mistake. Then you notice you need to go to right one after some time. There is only trees on your way to right road and you think you can pass it because you can see the road. No sir you can't because there is invisible walls there and you need to go walk back hundreds of meters to enter the right road.

As for the third one, it feels like this game based on melee classes. There are too many weapons and armor around for melee classes while there is none for mage. But melee classes lack dps while mage is too OP. Combat itself is nothing special. Bosses are really simple. Even sometimes they can't hit you because they miss you even when you're standing still.

For the general I don’t mention ugly character detail. Same enemies (there is only bats, hounds and bandits beside the bosses in whole game). Bad animations. Repetitive combat. Hollow cities and the list goes on.

The only thing keeps me playing this game was its interesting story. But in general, is it a bad game? No but its not good either.

So if you are thirsty for an RPG and missing the old school Dragon Age style this game is for you. But if you don’t have the patience to run and visit the same places over and over again don’t even try it.

I can not say that the game containse any noteable characters, but they all unique, have own story and fight style.
The weak spots are fighting and difficulty levels. I started the game on 'normal', but after 10 level i found that game pretty easy, and increased difficulty to max. But can't say that there are big changes. Yes, enemies became tougher but nothing was changed in battles.
And waht is wrong with battles? Fighting in this game easy, stupid, linear, 2-button-combat. No matter what class you chose, anyway you become to overpowered pretty fast.
For sure this is general problem of rpg genre, gameplay intersting when your character is weak, and short of resourses. You glad to use stelth, blocking, kaiting enemies etc. But whan you have pockets full of potions, ammo and stuff, you starts to ignore everything. First game of ganre of ME, DA, or GreedFall what fix this problem will become big.

Clumsy, predictable and shallow. There were some decent things about it like the outdoor environment and voice acting for the most part. The mechanics and writing were abysmal. There is romance, but it is barely above what Skyrim did, so if that's what your looking for this game has no real depth there.

I enjoyed my time with Greedfall. The story was mostly simple and straight-forward without much intrigue. The combat was about the same, even magic was a lot too simple. But in spite of its simplicity I still mostly enjoyed the game, its world, and story.

Combat is clunky and controls are a messy mmo version; keybinding has problems too, for instance dodge and sprint are bound to the same key (why!?), so you can't remap one without changing the other.
There is a talent tree but it's very limited, for example guns have only 4 talents that gives some passive bonuses and that's it.
Enemy AI is bugged, sometimes NPCs stand still and do nothing.
Voice acting is good for the protagonist and some other characters, awful for all the rest.
    Music is good and pleasant.
The story and quests don't make any sense, you're the nephew of a prince and yet sometimes you're known to NPCs, sometimes you're a total stranger, sometimes you're treated with respect, others like scum.
You spend the first hours of the game just running around doing errands, like looking for a cabin boy of a ship you don't care at all. Sometimes quests give you multiple choices but you can't actually pick the one you want cause everything is locked behind talents you haven't unlocked yet.

This game feels a lot like Dragon Age Inquisition but with a better combat system which reminds me of the Witcher 3. I think this one is worth 7/10, but I'm subtracting a point owing to the following somewhat janky features:

    - Really dated facial animations (game should maybe have been called "Teethfall" instead?), though you tend to get used to them after a while.
    - The game has a day/night cycle but NPCs just go about their routines 24 hours a day. Merchants will still bark at you to come and check out their wares when you run past their stalls in the dead of night, some townsfolk just stand around staring blankly and all the NPCs who walk around occasionally get stuck on obstacles which they continue walking against until you bump against them.
    - No children to be seen anywhere, even in native villages, which ruins immersion somewhat.
    - Copy/pasted interiors for all the major buildings, like the governors' mansions and the native chieftain huts. If this sort of thing really irritated you in Dragon Age 2, then I would recommend you avoid this game.
    - Companions who repeat the same lines endlessly in combat.
    - Ridiculous difficulty spikes for some boss battles.
    - Lots of poorly designed, tedious fetch quests (eg the infamous Logging Camp one) which have you running back and forth repeatedly.

In summary, this is worth picking up on sale if you enjoy Bioware type RPGs, but don't expect the experience to be as polished. I think Spiders is a developer that comes up with some great ideas for their games, but tends to fall short in the quality department as they simply don't have the resources to compete with the bigger studios. Hopefully that may change in the future....

Most of the quests are nothing but running down corridors disguised as forests from one fast travel camp to the next just to get to do some boring mundane errands with no interruptions, maybe a few copy pasted bears to slow you down and waste even more of your time.

And god help you if you find out that you can only do an objective arbitrarily at night because you can run all the way back to camp to change the time and then run back again through the awful maze like city streets that are designed to waste as much of your time as possible while you run between two objectives.

The romance options are terrible, it feels like they are only there because every big RPG needs to have them but they have no effort put into them. Your relationship with your compannions is based on a single conversation, if you can guess what the character wants you to anwser to 3 questins you get to romance them but if you mess up even a single anwser you are locked out for good from the romance. No interaction matters apart from these 3 random questions.

The save system is awful as well, there are 2 kinds of autosaves but there are only 1 slot for each (as well as for quick saves) which makes them almost entirely useless since the game autosaves almost every 5 seconds so you better be making lots of manual saves before you lock yourself out of romance options for example if you don't want to restart the enitre game. When I loaded back an older save to try another route I also got a bug that prevented me from saving ever again.

Even something as simple as opening a door is a huge waste of time, there's a nice animation for it but I was already sick of it before even leaving the starting town. It stops you completely dead in your tracks to play the animation that takes around 4 seconds, that might not sound much, but there are multiple doors in every building making indoor exploration extremely tedious and the game loves to make you run around buildings talking to people so it adds up over the around 30 hours of gameplay, I might have spent a quarter of an hour of my playthrough just opening doors.

The sole outstanding asset of the game setting (17th century colonialism) which is unique.
Graphics range from serviceable to good: environments are often times beautiful, but then you wander into town and see repetitious textures, copy & paste house interiors and the same character models in different clothing. Then there's the semi open world: semi open because it's not a huge inter-connected open world like SKYRIM, but rather sevreal small areas connected by travel points (to a much smaller scale comparable to THE WITCHER 2).
Sounds & voice are serviceable as well, nothing special, but still good. The exception are the voice actors of the player character (you get to choose between a male or female); they are outstanding.
The game feels very much like DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION (but it is much better than that one, and unlike INQUISITION this one has a day and night cycle!) with a pausable action-oriented combat system that has a DRAGON AGE-like skill bar with cool-down at the bottom, but mostly unimpressive and as basic as it gets.
Just average (5 out of 9).

The in-between camp when fast traveling is more of a hindrance than helpful. It’s difficult to tell the difference between the parts of the map you can freely travel or the parts that force you to walk around hills or forests to get where you need to be. I’ve played 40+ hours so far and most of it has been waiting on loading screens or roaming around the world trying to figure out where I can go.

Overall it feels like an unfinished game. I can’t play with ultra graphic settings anymore because it just crashes the game, there’s something really off about the walking animation, the face animations are wonky, and there’s plenty of menu bugs to go around.

You will play as an intersectional hero (colonist, native and a naut at the same time) navigating the world of noble savages, evil colonists, bossy women and effeminate men in a stitched together story with no meaningful choices.

From the start you will notice a completely unrealistic, immersion-breaking depiction of society. The game borrows cultural and ethnic traits from the real world (unlike most RPGs), but mixes them in a dissonant way. That includes: historical role reversals, eclectic architecture, unfit accents and ridiculous pidgin language, unrealistic interactions between groups, fragile women in male roles (admirals, commanders, miners, stevedores), effeminate sailors and soldiers. A utopia for a delusional political activist.

It wouldn't be so disheartening if the game wasn't so immersive and enjoyable otherwise. The world is beautiful, beasts are a work of art and labour, your role as a diplomat is meaningful and consistent, but every human interaction is a cringe.

As with any story driven by predetermined conclusions, character actions make no sense in the context and provide no choice to the player.

For example, when a couple of missionaries are trying to enforce a contract that nobody else has seen, it is somehow on the other side to find that contract. But when the contents of the agreement are established, somehow everyone is fine with the missionaries not holding their end of the deal.

The sensible story would be to claim the contract void, when the proof of it couldn't be produced. And when it could — to uphold the contract. Which is complete opposite of the game narrative.

Not to mention that the contract itself contradicts the story, as no assistance has ever been provided by the missionaries.

Why? Because the goal of the quest is to portray one side as deceptive and corrupt, not to explore a story with non-obvious choices.

There is no room for nuance, a single decision will lock you into a predetermined path of other unrelated decisions. The choices themselves are trivial, typically between clueless or immoral colonists and wise tribal natives. If that wasn't enough, a companion will nudge you in the "right" direction.

In some cases you are given no choice at all. For example the character would simply let go natives who confessed to have conspired and killed 3 innocent people. And in the same quest you have no option to accept a bribe from the opposite side.

As the game attempts to completely reinvent the reality (instead of just adding supernatural elements to it), it is full of stitched together contradictions and the story does not resonate.

Two major "plot twists" appear completely out of the blue and make no sense.

Another two major plot lines end with some lacklustre "revelations" about environmental pollution and "socially constructed" morphological changes: bad, bad, natural science should make way for tree hugging and cultural studies.

The only intriguing story about the history of the island should've served as the main plot line, but it ends up underdeveloped.

Greedfall uses a modified PhyreEngine (originally for PlayStation 3). It looks very good, but FPS is low and can't be improved by lowering settings. Vsync drops it even further. Camera is what you'd expect from a console engine: terrible. Not as terrible as in Prince of Persia, but about GTA-terrible. FoV is good and has an option. Controls can be remapped, but not all of them.

The game does a very good job with immersion: only essential UI (HP bars), no minimap, change of music alerts of proximity of enemies, companions alert about low HP/MP in combat. The last one would be good, if their battle cries and pet names weren't so cringy. Luckily, you won't hear those alerts too much, as the companions die within seconds.

I strongly recommend against starting on Extreme. It's not hard, but it's frustrating and unfair. The enemies are much faster than you and spam skills non-stop, some of their attacks are instant, other have unexpected reach, every blocked attack stuns you (even projectiles), charges and projectiles take a turn towards you if you roll away too soon. Oh, and multiply that by 4-6 enemies.

Console camera with auto-distancing and bushes blocking the view don't help in combat either. Targeting is broken, the character charges into an enemy off camera behind his back, instead of the one highlighted. Using pause or target-locking creates even worse experience. Sometimes the character punches the air in front of him, other times jumps straight to the enemy. As a mage you can't even tell, when you are stunned after a block. Enemies lose aggro and reset HP few meters away from their spawn.

Conceptually it's a very good skill-based combat system, but it needs more polishing to be challenging while remaining fair and smooth.

    THERE IS A SPRINT BUTTON.

If you use same model in 5 different towns make sure its a good one . Another problem is barracks/tavern building, yest its one building and you get quest from one or another imagine your irritation when instead barracks you enter tavern and vice versa and now imagine that you have almost 50% of quests start or end in barracks . The RPG elements of this game are omnipresent, so much so that you can find an average piece of armor and upgrade it to a point that it can compete with some of the best items in the game..There is a talent point system similar to The Witcher that unlocks new abilities depending how you progress through; however, rather than being a singular tree, the starting talents form a circular menu and there's overlap between some of the progression paths.

The combat is a little clunky at times, I found the camera at times to be working against me and leading to my death. However, the actual mechanics within the combat systems are very cool, in the sense that I can kick, dodge, riposte, parry etc. Many of these bound to a separate key which allows control over your character. It's worth admitting that i'm playing this game with a keyboard and mouse, it may flow more naturally with a controller. However, I do feel this games combat is a step down from Spiders prior offering The Technomancer.

Taken on its own merits i'm giving this game a 10. It was crafted on a budget of 5 million when compared to the 100 million for Mass Effect Andromeda, and crushes that game in every aspect and with a team of 50. Overall for the level of quality of game we have here, it's amazing that it was crafted over 3 years by a development team of 40-50 people.

There are some good strong aspects that make this game good and most important is the graphic, which is amazing. The storyline is not very complex, but the fact that you have the chance to reach a good or a bad ending, depending of your choices, it's a good thing. Even if I didn't had the best ending, I didn't have the worst one either and I am satisfied with that. The combat system and the level of customization of characters are, again, some good aspects of the game. The soundtrack is decent, but I would have wanted a more diversified soundtrack.
There are also some negative aspects of the game, one of them being the poor level of optimization and the other being the fact that sometimes, the game it gets a little boring but this depends entirely of every person. This being said, I do not regret the time spent playing this game, but I wouldn't play it again either. I appreciate the work that has been put in this game, by the developers and I would probably play the next game of them too, if there is gonna be one.

You see, in the game you can take companions with you, but they just simply useless and serve as a troopers who tank all the damage. On every bossfights they usually die after 2-3 minutes of fight, and ye, you can't control them, they are free to do what they want. This totally brakes CRPG combat system of the game. And the souls-like system i just hate.

About the story. Well, it has interesting moments, but i did not really like them.

Graphics are good, open world is ok, you can find some interesting quest and occasions. But as i say, the combat system just totally ruins immersion in this game.

Even though i am fan of CRPGs, i just really hated it, but objectively it is ok, so i think 6/10 mark is suitable for it. And yes, i do not care that studio is small and does not have money. Divinity: Original Sin 2 also had a small budget, but yet it is a perfect game, which will become the classic of the genre. I think developers should just decline their combat system and try the classic CRPG one.

I have to say that this is a very satisfying game in the tradition of Good RPGs by Focus Home Interactive. The scenery and settings are really fantastic and the choice and consequence really shine. Definitely recommend it.

An RPG with an excellent atmosphere and a decent roll playing experience. The beginning is superb, with a decrepit atmosphere and a decaying world, then quickly runs out of steam. Give it a try. It is buggy and it is a little on the lower budget side of things, but it might be some people's niche. Overall, its not bad, but not great either.

This game had way lower budget and smaller team than what it took to make the likes of The Witcher or AC Odyssey. From the get-go it's obvious that they had to cut many corners: character models are akin to those in Skyrim or The Witcher 2 (both from 2011), some interiors and NPCs are copypasted and voice acting can (at times, although not always) be meh. But what they did get right is world building, setting, characters, story and quests. The world (despite not being seamless and consisting of multiple medium-sized hubs) can be astonishingly beautiful (although for some reason the devs opted to fill it with ugly brown filter - look up a decent ReShade preset on Nexus to fix colors), its landscapes breathtaking. Companion characters and main NPCs are well-written and believeable. The story is unpredictable and quite interesting and so are the quests that never have player be a delivery boy. Despite the game having its limitations. I enjoyed every second of it and wholeheartedly recommend it.

    Pros
    • Interesting story
    • Unpredictable and well-written quests
    • Believeable characters with interesting backstories
    • Beautiful world (that need a ReShade to fix brown tint, but still)
    • Rich leveling system
    • Fun combat that (for me) never really got old.

    Cons
    • Poor character models
    • Low variety in the world's fauna (which is still believeable, I guess)
    • At times terrible voice acting (for the Natives faction - their accents are not believeable, but maybe it's just me)
    • Use of copypaste in interior design (unavoidable for such a small team, but still a flaw)

Why I give it 8 and not less? Because I believe the dev team achieved exactly what they wanted to. This game is not The Witcher 3 killer. And it was never meant to be. But it's a solid RPG experience that I can't recommend enough.

The what most mentions are setup, you have to run for along distance somewhere and than back to where you came from, but the worst part is you might have to do this several times in 1 mission. The side content can be enjoyable but it to a point where there are too many side story because they seem like all the rest. Not enough enemy variety at all and I hate the in between when traveling. Also when your done with a mission instead of fast traveling you to the nearest fast travel they make you run to it and it could be far. The way the maps are set up they want you to spend a lot of time running to make the game longer. I honestly spent about 40 hours when the game should have been 15-25 hours long, but the padded out story, running and bad map design added 10-15 hours to it and made me dread the last 10-15 hours of playing. The fighting was fun, but if you wanting to play for the story......I don’t think 40 hours is quite worth it unless you willing to indoor Death-stranding running on steroids. Expand

Kept me amused for a few hours, but unfortunately it lacks the polish of an A game or the heart of a good indie one. There are countless minor annoyances like getting stuck on tiny obstacles or invisible walls, lack of keyboard shortcuts for dialog options, the combat that gets really boring really fast, the lack of depth in everything from character interactions to the skill system, etc.

and some ability s lack the complexity they need (like charisma or intuition)
level up process is good but some of them is not really practical
fighting is good i liked the idea of using armor like that

Athiests, Agnostics, Buddhists, Catholics, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and Pagan's can enjoy this RPG. I think there is good representation of lgbtqia+ in Greedfall that doesn't take away from the mainstory but compliments the aestetics of the graphics. There were a few glitches, like a character's chin going through his collar and a character floating above a chair and table. Those who compare it to old Bioware games are not far off the mark – the story doesn't re-invent the wheel but it is interesting enough to keep you going and there are different paths and choices you can take during quests. Your decisions bear consequences but nothing immediately obvious or extraordinaire. There are 3 different skill trees (Warrior, Technical, Magic) – Warrior is straightforward, Technical is flashy and Magic is both underwhelming and over-powered.

The game’s weakest points lie in its combat, animations, vast yet empty world, over-used assets and an ending that was obviously rushed. Facial animations leave a lot to be desired and can be almost compared to ME:A, but it’s not critical if you can overlook such things. I, myself, grew used to them after a while. The world is, too large for what it offers, a poor design choice in all honesty, since a more condensed but meaningful experience could have proven more fruitful in the long run.

If you’re a detail-oriented player you will notice oddly identical interiors and clones everywhere, this is particularly noticeable when you visit the governors’ manors in each town. Last but not least – the ending. It felt like the devs poured a lot of effort into the beginning and mid sections of the game only to realize they were running out of time and resources to do everything they wanted to. The ending is abrupt, followed by a slideshow depicting your choices and the consequences thereof.

Overall, it’s not the kind of game that I'd play a second time but I did enjoy my time with it. I consider it Spiders' best title yet. I would play a sequel.

PS: There is romance in the game, including gay options, but don’t expect it to be meaningful and deep. Although modding is a thing for Greedfall, it's not officially supported since the devs never released the tools for it, nor did they plan to. What exists and can be done, is limited.

    Good
    + Pretty to look it
+ Voicing is good (I did not mind the synching)
    + Strong Setting
+ Story is kind of ok, somehow

    Bad
    - Vast and empty areas, my finger really hurt bad from keeping the sprint button permanently pressed
    - There is hardly anything to explore anyway, you should not do it unless sent
    - Towns and interiors are copy and paste, a lot of paste. Even the 3 town layouts are just basically variations. Interiors are nearly identical
    - Hardly any variation in animals and fighting ... the same groups of beast herds over and over
    - People and animals do nothing except standing around and for beasts sleeping sometimes
    - No children, makes no sense. People do nothing all day.
    - There is quite a a lot of different armor and weapons, but they always have the same stats and at some point you only want the uniques anyway
    - Gameplay and fighting is boring. I used about 2-3 magic skills as a mage. Everything died so fast, that probably one skill is enough in most cases.

I think they made the mistake of going for a big, open world, with pretty visuals.
They tried to keep the story and the voicing high, but they ultimatly failed on size, at interesting details, with game mechanics and with delivering motivation to play.

The plot feels good at the beginning (first location only), then it becomes predictable, mediocre and boring.

    Gameplay:
    1. No balance at all, just go for gunner build and you've beaten the game. Combat is awful.
    2. The game isn't challenging, like, at all. You don't have to think, the game already chewed everything for you. Fast travels included. Shoutout to white markings on the wooden walls, to climb over.
    3. Crafting system is poor, all you can craft is traps, potions, bullets, quest items (3-4 for the whole game). You can't craft armor or weapon, you can only upgrade it.
    4. As for the enemy mobs, you can count them all on your fingers.
    5. 95% of your time will be taken by the moving from one NPC to another.
    6. "Open-world RPG". Bruh, it's fake. the game is "hallway-like" RPG.
    7. Containers resets after some time.

    Finale:
It costs 50€. Excuse me, for what? LMAO.
The only price acceptable for this game is 10-15€, not more.
The "critics" who gave this game more than 50-60 are to be ignored. Because giving higher ratings to the game for the "ambition" of the company is just makes no sense. Making a decent, overhyped, overpriced product is not "ambitious". It's hilarious and awful.

Do you like Old RPG such as Dragon age: origin? or Risen? if so, this game will be your good choice. there are a ton of side quests, lore telling, item gathering. and A LOT OF TALKING. they don't hold back on giving information. there will be sometimes that you find yourself walking around just talking. however, the story is interesting, not the best, but enough for you to cling on it.Do you like Old RPG such as Dragon age: origin? or Risen? if so, this game will be your good choice. there are a ton of side quests, lore telling, item gathering. and A LOT OF TALKING. they don't hold back on giving information. there will be sometimes that you find yourself walking around just talking. however, the story is interesting, not the best, but enough for you to cling on it. combat system is so old school, slash, shortcut for skill. there are plenty of skill to play around. not much though. the choices in the game matters.

if you like the game I mention (plus King dom of Amalur: reckoning) this game is a good choice) if not I suggested you to try those game first. some system of this kind of games can be annoying for some people. ENJOY

I am giving Greedfall an 8 because it impresses me how far Spiders has come with this AA game .The questing and rpg elements are solid. The combat can be improved and the drab color palate in the world / graphics can be improved.I loved the storyline loved the weapons sounds especially my shooters. SOOOO SATISFYING.

I played and quested and got my companions story lines and all factions but 1 all favorable .I liked the ending then redid the ending for an alternate outcome .I restarted on extreme and went back to championship arena to battle it out at level 7 . Beat the boss on extreme got the golden weapon at level 7 and smiled with glee. While i do not want to slog through the game again in extreme , this is a BUY.

The voice acting is fantastic in this game! The facial animations are a little flat for a 2019 game but the voice acting makes up for it. Some people have tried to say the facial animations in this game as as bad as Mass Effect: Andromeda but I strongly disagree with that statement. They're not that bad by any means and I say that as someone who's played both games.

Some people have tried to say the facial animations in this game as as bad as Mass Effect: Andromeda but I strongly disagree with that statement. They're not that bad by any means and I say that as someone who's played both games.

The combat is lackluster if that's your thing. Personally I don't play games for the combat but rather for a good story, which I know is an uncommon stance to have. This game is mostly just running around and talking to people. There's a stealth element in this game but it's not really all that great. There are some choices in the game that do influence the game but it more so influences faction relations, which is fine by me as the factions are all really interesting and different. The most annoying part of the fighting is the fact that your companions have the same dialogue when they enter combat and Vasco's is super loud and annoying (and I say that even though he is my favorite companion).

The companions are fantastic and they all have their own companion/loyalty quest lines that are amazing. There's also romance in this game if that's your thing and it's really well done. The factions are interesting and the story is phenomenal. This game's side quests are quality story-driven content if you ask me. There aren't really many fetch or kill quests in this game. The soundtrack is also wonderful as well as the art direction. And yes, the quest decisions that you make DO matter.

The world isn't really too open. It's kind of linear in the way that Dragon Age Origins was. Personally I need that because I so easily lose focus in a game with TOO open of a world. So if you're like me, this game is for you. Your companions don't stand around approving and disapproving of every little thing you do throughout the game, which is nice. Their approval and disapproval is more based on what you say and do during their loyalty/companion missions.

I've encountered a few graphical glitches and whatnot but there is a patch coming out soon that I imagine will fix a lot of things. There are a lot of grammatical errors in the subtitles but it's very easy to still figure out what is being said. There have been a few lines here and there that refer to my female character as male. Sometimes in dialogue the camera gets glitched out and you'll just see a wall or something. None of these glitches have really been game or immersion breaking. Small inconveniences at worst.

It's unfair to completely compare this game to The Witcher, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc. since those are all AAA titles and this game was made with a much lower budget and a smaller team. This game was clearly made with a lot of love and you can feel it.

Bit of poison on my blade, then LET'S GO!

This is an extremely mediocre game. And the combat system is bloody awful. The friendly AI is also useless and the game has lots of glitches and bugs.

Nice RPG with decent story, interesting world/lore and good game play.
Reminds me a bit of Dragon Age Inquisition...but with far less tedium.
What I like most is, that your choices as far as I have played often influence characters in later quests. Characters you have with you can influence dialogues, choices at least seem to carry weight most of the time and in many cases there are

I think some will regard Greedfall as a dull open world RPG but in truth is has it's good and bad sides. The story is quite amazing. Some minors performances issues here and there, but overall the result is pretty good. The sounds are fun but the soundtrack isn't something to brag about. The combat is precise but I found the difference between easy to normal to be quite high. At a certain point (3/4 of the game), weapons and armor upgrades are useless. The skill tree is something of a frustration. It's too slow to get the skills. Exploration is fun but the fast traveling system is very limiting. They are fix points on the map, and not always practical. Some area have long spaces with nothing to do. i give it 82%. I really enjoy it because of the story. It's a good RPG and I hope this new team can make another one. Expand

I absolutely love the setting, the story, the chars, the plot twists.... Don't look at pro reviews. They expect a triple a ubisoft game. This is a double A game by 40 people. the amount of effort that went into this game is insane. Greedfall 2 will be on par with witcher 3 im calling it

It's like a Victorian era fantasy Witcher or Dragon Age game but it doesn't manage to do anything particularly well and it does a lot poorly. I would love to love it, because I wish there were more games like this made, but alas I just can't bring myself to. At best, it's wholly mediocre overall. They didn't have a large budget AND THEY MANAGE TO MAKE THIS EXTREMELY OBVIOUS. Some of their failings though can not be attributed to a small budget but just to bad design and poor execution. Terrible animations, bland combat (a lot of it is just M1 spam), boring/uninteresting loot, humdrum uncompelling world and narrative which railroads you for the most part with few to no interesting choices to make. The entire game world looks mostly the same with many overly reused assets (almost as bad as the attrocities commited by Dragon Age 2), there is very little enemy diversity, and quests can be quite tedious with a lot of running back and forth.

The only one strong point I can think of is that a lot of the voice acting is quite well done (with a strong exception in the companion Siora) - but this just makes it even more tragic that everything they're saying is trash in terms of quality story telling. The content of what they're actually saying is mostly a snorefest, but at least they sound good saying it (and it's too bad their character models' mouths and expressions don't match at all either).

And im gonna get right to the point.. the story here is sooo boring, it wont pull you through this 19 hour adventure at all… I couldn’t tell your character names or plots.. I just couldn’t bother to care…
except for of course my character and my characters cousin…
So naturally the game must rely on its gameplay… and thankfully this is where Greedfall shines.
GreeFall very quickly reminded me of Dragon Age Origins with a slight hint of assassins creed and the witcher…
As you progress the game youll gain a party with hteir own quests, you can equip them with better items and gear throughout your journey….
structure wise the game is the same from start to finish.. run to a travel marker or campfire.. fast travel to the quest location.. run to the spot on the map while you fight enemies in between, listen to some boring dialog… rinse and repeat until you get to an exciting boss battle…
If you’ve played 2 hours of GreedFall you’ve played all hours of greedfall… nothing changes.
But there was just something about it that kept me hook, icouldnt put this game down…
Im not quite sure what It is… but despite the gamplay not changing up, and the story being so boring.. I couldn’t help but want to see this journey through to its end…
it had some sortve spell on me…
    Despite all of its problems..
There are essentially 2 different section to the world.. city and forest…
Every city, every forest look and feel nearly identical from the outside to the insides
enemies are few and far between.. but the hook was there.. leveling up… dumping my skills into a tree, making my character stronger and stronger… which does bring me to the biggest issue I have with this game…
    Leveling here is painfully slow…
Sadly you kind of have to stick to one thing and one thing only per playthrough…
You cant have a character that can carry powerful weapons and have heavy armor for example.. you just cant…
Due to how slow points are given for each of the 3 trees, you have to really specialize in one thing which I don’t mind too much… but that was until the game was basically forcing me to choose certain skilsl towards the end of the story.. youre forced to craft items only about 4 times in the story.. but still to craft those 4 items you have no choice but to dump two skill points into areas you may otherwise not care to build upon..
If im a warrior I shouldn’t be forced to dump my skills into science if im not crafting potions the whole game…
This breaks the otherwise feeling of freedom the game has…
Youre free to treat character in this game any way youd like, there are no fail states to missions… if youre detected when youre told not to you just have to fight your way through and figure things out from there…
But forcing you to spend your points in a game that rarely hands those points out just really bothered me.. if youre going to make item crafting necessary for story progression, you shouldn’t also tie it to a skill and force me to use my remapping crystals.
All in all though GreedFall has so much potential…
With more incentive to explore, less item binding to certain skills or at the very least more points to spend as you level and a better story I believe GreedFall 2 or whatever spyder decides to do next could be even better…
    I give GreedFall
    a 7/10

Went into the game wanting to not like it, but ending up loving it. It has bugs and some awkward camera angles but it's not game breaking and doesn't make the game less enjoyable.
The story and characters are great.
If you enjoy story heavy games with a lot of dialogue you should give it a try.

The Spiders studio didn´t take players‘ comments on the previous titles seriously, and they repeat the same mistakes. GreedFall offers an interesting world, full of amazing characters and ideas, but lacks in other aspects. [Issue#298]

Greedfall is a tough game to judge. It's neither bad nor great. It comes staggeringly close to greatness in a number of areas, but it just lacks the polish or ambition to go further. If you're looking for a nostalgic trip back to the mid-2000s style of WRPGs, then you'll find a lot to like in Greedfall. It's worth a shot if you're a fan of that style of games. In a year that gave us titles like Disco Elysium, it's difficult to be particularly impressed by something that is merely standard.
