Combat is clunky and controls are a messy mmo version; keybinding has problems too, for instance dodge and sprint are bound to the same key (why!?), so you can't remap one without changing the other.
There is a talent tree but it's very limited, for example guns have only 4 talents that gives some passive bonuses and that's it.
Enemy AI is bugged, sometimes NPCs stand still and do nothing.
Voice acting is good for the protagonist and some other characters, awful for all the rest.
    Music is good and pleasant.
The story and quests don't make any sense, you're the nephew of a prince and yet sometimes you're known to NPCs, sometimes you're a total stranger, sometimes you're treated with respect, others like scum.
You spend the first hours of the game just running around doing errands, like looking for a cabin boy of a ship you don't care at all. Sometimes quests give you multiple choices but you can't actually pick the one you want cause everything is locked behind talents you haven't unlocked yet.

Some times character join you party go on mission with you then after finishing his/her mission they leaves you party only to force you to go to the first place you meat to give the event reports!? really this character was here 5sec ago but now you have to go through the all map like 3-5min . Pacing of Spider game always was bad the one i like was Mars: War Logs or Bound by Flame because those one was short, but Tehnomancer and Gredfall are nightmare to play.
Forget about some Quest order there is no one you make quests that pop up like main, then you jump to side then again to main but different than again to side and then you get back to the first main??. I play on PS4 HDR and its looking ok, but they use the same assets all over the game, and the lack of architecture consistency hurts when you enter a palace and you see windows at floor level but when you inside there are different windows in different places LOL. If you use same model in 5 different towns make sure its a good one . Another problem is barracks/tavern building, yest its one building and you get quest from one or another imagine your irritation when instead barracks you enter tavern and vice versa and now imagine that you have almost 50% of quests start or end in barracks . Do Not Buy This Game if it cost more than 5$ and don't buy next Spider games !?

The in-between camp when fast traveling is more of a hindrance than helpful. It’s difficult to tell the difference between the parts of the map you can freely travel or the parts that force you to walk around hills or forests to get where you need to be. I’ve played 40+ hours so far and most of it has been waiting on loading screens or roaming around the world trying to figure out where I can go.

Overall it feels like an unfinished game. I can’t play with ultra graphic settings anymore because it just crashes the game, there’s something really off about the walking animation, the face animations are wonky, and there’s plenty of menu bugs to go around.

I wish it were a better game. Normally I complete games to 100% but for this one, I’m just finishing the main story and moving on.

The plot feels good at the beginning (first location only), then it becomes predictable, mediocre and boring.

    Gameplay:
    1. No balance at all, just go for gunner build and you've beaten the game. Combat is awful.
    2. The game isn't challenging, like, at all. You don't have to think, the game already chewed everything for you. Fast travels included. Shoutout to white markings on the wooden walls, to climb over.
    3. Crafting system is poor, all you can craft is traps, potions, bullets, quest items (3-4 for the whole game). You can't craft armor or weapon, you can only upgrade it.
    4. As for the enemy mobs, you can count them all on your fingers.
    5. 95% of your time will be taken by the moving from one NPC to another.
    6. "Open-world RPG". Bruh, it's fake. the game is "hallway-like" RPG.
    7. Containers resets after some time.

    Finale:
It costs 50€. Excuse me, for what? LMAO.
The only price acceptable for this game is 10-15€, not more.
The "critics" who gave this game more than 50-60 are to be ignored. Because giving higher ratings to the game for the "ambition" of the company is just makes no sense. Making a decent, overhyped, overpriced product is not "ambitious". It's hilarious and awful.
Don't waste your time and money on this game and ignore all future products from this company. 50€ for mediocre pile of garbage it's more of a statement.

It's an old school game, with discrete levels in place of a continuous open world; in itself, that's not bad and the levels are large enough, but the graphics are definitely meh, and the yellowish tint doesn't help its visuals. From the very start, the adjective summing up my impressions has been "clunky". Movement, quest structure, the dialogs... it all feels like a low budget C-movie. What really buries any chance of enjoyment is combat. I picked a mage and decided to play, as I almost always do, on hard difficulty. Combat consists of facing 4-5 enemies attacking nonstop, since the rest of your team usually gets KO'ed in about 5 seconds. But hey, cross an invisible line a small distance from where you started and the enemies instantly recover 100% energy, sheathe their weapons and return to their starting point, while your sidekicks also revive. There is a parrying mechanic which works well against humans, but fails miserably on beasts, who have no clear attack pattern. Also, when facing two or three enemies at a time, parrying suddenly loses relevance. A magical dodge/teleport skill transports you in the middle of an enemy group, rather than where you are pointing. In short, combat sucks. Badly.
Oh wait, the rest does too. Cliched characters, cringeworthy dialog, embarrassingly stupid quests, super ultra bland skill tree. While most RPGs are guilty of one or two of the above faults, Greedfall greedily embraces each and every one, maybe that's where the name comes from.

But the reality with Greedfall is that it is simply average. The graphics and voicing are very average for what todays tech can bring. The plot is a bit mediocre and isn't often gripping. It is tedious to once again see religion as some crazy inquisition type fanatical, violent and secretive group of violent people. This point gets me when it comes to narrative as it is repeated almost all the time and is just not reasonable. If we really want to sterotype somebody here let's go for the third reich or Pol Pots Cambodia or maybe Communist leadership in Russia all of whom took a fanatical and macabre delight in murdering countless millions of people, mostly because they were religious. Napoleon would be another good example , the way invading forces across Europe raped and brutally murdered, Spanish and Portuguese (who were mostly Catholic) all for the purpose of a single Europe under an Emperor enlightened by science was madness. Anyway, my point here is simple, be a bit creative with your plots and stories. Graphics don't matter half as much as the tale; it's easy to overlook bad lip sync, monotone voices, bland faces and a slighlty better than average combat system (thought that was a good effort) if the tale, characters... 'life' of the game your telling and i found it underwhelming.Portu...................................... Expand

Kept me amused for a few hours, but unfortunately it lacks the polish of an A game or the heart of a good indie one. There are countless minor annoyances like getting stuck on tiny obstacles or invisible walls, lack of keyboard shortcuts for dialog options, the combat that gets really boring really fast, the lack of depth in everything from character interactions to the skill system, etc.

You will play as an intersectional hero (colonist, native and a naut at the same time) navigating the world of noble savages, evil colonists, bossy women and effeminate men in a stitched together story with no meaningful choices.

From the start you will notice a completely unrealistic, immersion-breaking depiction of society. The game borrows cultural and ethnic traits from the real world (unlike most RPGs), but mixes them in a dissonant way. That includes: historical role reversals, eclectic architecture, unfit accents and ridiculous pidgin language, unrealistic interactions between groups, fragile women in male roles (admirals, commanders, miners, stevedores), effeminate sailors and soldiers. A utopia for a delusional political activist.

It wouldn't be so disheartening if the game wasn't so immersive and enjoyable otherwise. The world is beautiful, beasts are a work of art and labour, your role as a diplomat is meaningful and consistent, but every human interaction is a cringe.

As with any story driven by predetermined conclusions, character actions make no sense in the context and provide no choice to the player.

For example, when a couple of missionaries are trying to enforce a contract that nobody else has seen, it is somehow on the other side to find that contract. But when the contents of the agreement are established, somehow everyone is fine with the missionaries not holding their end of the deal.

The sensible story would be to claim the contract void, when the proof of it couldn't be produced. And when it could — to uphold the contract. Which is complete opposite of the game narrative.

Not to mention that the contract itself contradicts the story, as no assistance has ever been provided by the missionaries.

Why? Because the goal of the quest is to portray one side as deceptive and corrupt, not to explore a story with non-obvious choices.

There is no room for nuance, a single decision will lock you into a predetermined path of other unrelated decisions. The choices themselves are trivial, typically between clueless or immoral colonists and wise tribal natives. If that wasn't enough, a companion will nudge you in the "right" direction.

In some cases you are given no choice at all. For example the character would simply let go natives who confessed to have conspired and killed 3 innocent people. And in the same quest you have no option to accept a bribe from the opposite side.

As the game attempts to completely reinvent the reality (instead of just adding supernatural elements to it), it is full of stitched together contradictions and the story does not resonate.

Two major "plot twists" appear completely out of the blue and make no sense.

Another two major plot lines end with some lacklustre "revelations" about environmental pollution and "socially constructed" morphological changes: bad, bad, natural science should make way for tree hugging and cultural studies.

The only intriguing story about the history of the island should've served as the main plot line, but it ends up underdeveloped.

Greedfall uses a modified PhyreEngine (originally for PlayStation 3). It looks very good, but FPS is low and can't be improved by lowering settings. Vsync drops it even further. Camera is what you'd expect from a console engine: terrible. Not as terrible as in Prince of Persia, but about GTA-terrible. FoV is good and has an option. Controls can be remapped, but not all of them.

The game does a very good job with immersion: only essential UI (HP bars), no minimap, change of music alerts of proximity of enemies, companions alert about low HP/MP in combat. The last one would be good, if their battle cries and pet names weren't so cringy. Luckily, you won't hear those alerts too much, as the companions die within seconds.

I strongly recommend against starting on Extreme. It's not hard, but it's frustrating and unfair. The enemies are much faster than you and spam skills non-stop, some of their attacks are instant, other have unexpected reach, every blocked attack stuns you (even projectiles), charges and projectiles take a turn towards you if you roll away too soon. Oh, and multiply that by 4-6 enemies.

Console camera with auto-distancing and bushes blocking the view don't help in combat either. Targeting is broken, the character charges into an enemy off camera behind his back, instead of the one highlighted. Using pause or target-locking creates even worse experience. Sometimes the character punches the air in front of him, other times jumps straight to the enemy. As a mage you can't even tell, when you are stunned after a block. Enemies lose aggro and reset HP few meters away from their spawn.

Conceptually it's a very good skill-based combat system, but it needs more polishing to be challenging while remaining fair and smooth.

    THERE IS A SPRINT BUTTON.

This game does not respect your time and you should not waste it on it. Most of the quests are nothing but running down corridors disguised as forests from one fast travel camp to the next just to get to do some boring mundane errands with no interruptions, maybe a few copy pasted bears to slow you down and waste even more of your time.

And god help you if you find out that you can only do an objective arbitrarily at night because you can run all the way back to camp to change the time and then run back again through the awful maze like city streets that are designed to waste as much of your time as possible while you run between two objectives.

The romance options are terrible, it feels like they are only there because every big RPG needs to have them but they have no effort put into them. Your relationship with your compannions is based on a single conversation, if you can guess what the character wants you to anwser to 3 questins you get to romance them but if you mess up even a single anwser you are locked out for good from the romance. No interaction matters apart from these 3 random questions.

The save system is awful as well, there are 2 kinds of autosaves but there are only 1 slot for each (as well as for quick saves) which makes them almost entirely useless since the game autosaves almost every 5 seconds so you better be making lots of manual saves before you lock yourself out of romance options for example if you don't want to restart the enitre game. When I loaded back an older save to try another route I also got a bug that prevented me from saving ever again.

Even something as simple as opening a door is a huge waste of time, there's a nice animation for it but I was already sick of it before even leaving the starting town. It stops you completely dead in your tracks to play the animation that takes around 4 seconds, that might not sound much, but there are multiple doors in every building making indoor exploration extremely tedious and the game loves to make you run around buildings talking to people so it adds up over the around 30 hours of gameplay, I might have spent a quarter of an hour of my playthrough just opening doors.

Greedfall is a tough game to judge. It's neither bad nor great. It comes staggeringly close to greatness in a number of areas, but it just lacks the polish or ambition to go further. If you're looking for a nostalgic trip back to the mid-2000s style of WRPGs, then you'll find a lot to like in Greedfall. It's worth a shot if you're a fan of that style of games. In a year that gave us titles like Disco Elysium, it's difficult to be particularly impressed by something that is merely standard.
