    Visuals: 6/10
The game looks good all around.
The world design is decent, but big minus for invisibile walls. Also the lip sync is atrocious, which is a no-go for a story driven RPG. The equipment and factions all look very similar, which becomes very boring, very quickly. The UI looks like a more adult version of Fisher-Price. Lots of unnecessary elements and handholding there.

    Sound: 8/10
Decent in any regard, voiceover, music, sfx... Just nothing really memorable.

    Story: 2/10
    Nope.
    Just no.
The setting sounds interesting, but the devs didn't do anything interesting with it. The story itself is pretty much counter-productive for what makes an RPG enjoyable. The factions hardly differ from each other. The player character has no personality whatsoever. All the characters in the game are extremely one-dimensional. The game doesn't even have an interesting goal and there are hardly any real choices for the player to make.
Also the whole story is stretched out way too long for what little content there actually is to it.
Also, again, the lipsynch is just so bad, it destroys any possible immersion in the game when looking at their mouths while watching one of the way too many cutscenes in the game.

    Gameplay: 4/10
Nothing new here, literally. Just a bunch of things copied from other games. There is a armor mechanic, which in essence is just another layer of hitpoints, so that doesn't count either. Even if it would, it's so minor it doesn't even matter.
In combat the player feels disconnected from the action due to the nonsensical camera handling.
The combat system itself is extremely simple. But it's overall workable. Just not fun enough for more than one playthrough.
Exploration? Not for you! Invisible walls everywhere, nothing to really discover, minimap and common buildings in cities being mazes are sure to ruin any possible joy out of exploring the world.
The companions are very annoying with their constant commentary during combat.
The Balancing is absolutely horrible. Lots of abilities that completely negate game mechanics and also lots of abilities that are utterly pointless.
The RPG mechanics couldn't be any more simplistic and vanilla than in this game.
Also UI is a huge mess and destroys any possible immersion in the game.

    Summary: 5/10

Greedfall is yet another soulless RPG made by ticking little boxes on a checklist.
It doesn't do anything better than any other RPG.
It doesn't have a single creative idea in it.
It is very average in most regards and horrible in some others. Regrettably, there isn't a single thing in the game that could even be considered as above average. Except for the Sound, but that isn't exactly a reason to play game.
It raises the question why the devs even bothered making this game... though obviously it's just a cashgrab by disillusioned devs that ran out of ideas a long time ago.

So if you love RPGs and looking for an all in all slightly below average one, this is your game.
Though ultimately another run of Dark Souls, Nioh, Breath of the Wild, Gothic or even Witcher or Skyrim will be more enjoyable than this.

The what most mentions are setup, you have to run for along distance somewhere and than back to where you came from, but the worst part is you might have to do this several times in 1 mission. The side content can be enjoyable but it to a point where there are too many side story because they seem like all the rest. Not enough enemy variety at all and I hate the in between when traveling. Also when your done with a mission instead of fast traveling you to the nearest fast travel they make you run to it and it could be far. The way the maps are set up they want you to spend a lot of time running to make the game longer. I honestly spent about 40 hours when the game should have been 15-25 hours long, but the padded out story, running and bad map design added 10-15 hours to it and made me dread the last 10-15 hours of playing. The fighting was fun, but if you wanting to play for the story......I don’t think 40 hours is quite worth it unless you willing to indoor Death-stranding running on steroids. Expand

Combat is clunky and controls are a messy mmo version; keybinding has problems too, for instance dodge and sprint are bound to the same key (why!?), so you can't remap one without changing the other.
There is a talent tree but it's very limited, for example guns have only 4 talents that gives some passive bonuses and that's it.
Enemy AI is bugged, sometimes NPCs stand still and do nothing.
Voice acting is good for the protagonist and some other characters, awful for all the rest.
    Music is good and pleasant.
The story and quests don't make any sense, you're the nephew of a prince and yet sometimes you're known to NPCs, sometimes you're a total stranger, sometimes you're treated with respect, others like scum.
You spend the first hours of the game just running around doing errands, like looking for a cabin boy of a ship you don't care at all. Sometimes quests give you multiple choices but you can't actually pick the one you want cause everything is locked behind talents you haven't unlocked yet.

I enjoyed the game its not bad at all but it has too much backtracking and some quests are just not worth it. Still the combat is fun and the final boss was very souls like but was done well. But copypasted enemies and bosses and some are not so interesting. Everything felt a little bit shallow I didnt get into it that much.

Pacing of Spider game always was bad the one i like was Mars: War Logs or Bound by Flame because those one was short, but Tehnomancer and Gredfall are nightmare to play.
Forget about some Quest order there is no one you make quests that pop up like main, then you jump to side then again to main but different than again to side and then you get back to the first main??. I play on PS4 HDR and its looking ok, but they use the same assets all over the game, and the lack of architecture consistency hurts when you enter a palace and you see windows at floor level but when you inside there are different windows in different places LOL. If you use same model in 5 different towns make sure its a good one . Another problem is barracks/tavern building, yest its one building and you get quest from one or another imagine your irritation when instead barracks you enter tavern and vice versa and now imagine that you have almost 50% of quests start or end in barracks . Do Not Buy This Game if it cost more than 5$ and don't buy next Spider games !?

The in-between camp when fast traveling is more of a hindrance than helpful. It’s difficult to tell the difference between the parts of the map you can freely travel or the parts that force you to walk around hills or forests to get where you need to be. I’ve played 40+ hours so far and most of it has been waiting on loading screens or roaming around the world trying to figure out where I can go.

Overall it feels like an unfinished game. I can’t play with ultra graphic settings anymore because it just crashes the game, there’s something really off about the walking animation, the face animations are wonky, and there’s plenty of menu bugs to go around.

I wish it were a better game. Normally I complete games to 100% but for this one, I’m just finishing the main story and moving on.

I really wanted to like Greedfall, it looked different to the typical fantasy RPGs. The colonial era setting isn't common, and playing as a colonising force seemed like an interesting take on the genre. In actuality, the game is unappealing and a chore to play. The controls are floaty and the combat is simple and unengaging. It clearly is trying to follow in the footsteps of FromSoft games, and it fails in this regard.
Another missed step is how Greedfall attempts to mimic BioWare RPGs like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. The critical mistake is making the protagonist too fully voiced and giving no real choice. Each dialogue I encountered in the first few hours of the game played out like a cutscene, with usually a small inconsequential choice of what question to ask the NPC. Instead of just asking one thing, my character would launch into entire dialogues. It felt less like a conversation I had any control over, and more like I was in a choose your own adventure novel. I think if the developers had just taken away the choices and made the character how they wanted, it would have turned out better.

The visuals are a letdown, because the design of the world looks good, but the game is so poorly optimised that even with a decently powerful computer, the game shudders and floats even on medium settings. The character designs are cool as well, but terrible facial animation makes cutscenes look awful, like something from the PS3 or XBOX360 at some points.

All in all, I think this game has potential. Buy it on a big sale, try it, and if it doesn't pull you in quickly, return it. If the setting really grabs you, I hope you enjoy it. As one of the few people who enjoys Too Human, I know how much a setting and art direction can make someone love a game other people hate.

Not open world enough, but rather tunnel-like running through the levels from one quest to another without a chance to make meaningful decisions often enough. Frankly speaking, with how often the quests turned out with "native man good and wise, colonizer man bad and destructive", I started thinking that the senion designer is probably female. Wasn't wrong. Not that it's the biggest fault of this game, but it definately substracted from already linear storytelling. Combat isn't bad, but it's' not interesting either, especially with how broken the parry button is. Endings are disappointing, they probably intended for something else, but how can I tell now. Level design is, once again, most like Dragon Age 2 and that's not a particular compliment. Class level isn't engaging or distinct. RPG is lackluster, unless your intent is to play out the diplomat, which is basically the only correct option. Still, the game provides 30-40 hours of tolerable gameplay and story and a couple of meaningful decisions, so might as well recommend to pick it up, while it's on sale. Expand

Greedfall is not without its flaws but it stands out as one of the more interesting RPGs to have released in recent memory. For a AA studio that is. Those who compare it to old Bioware games are not far off the mark – the story doesn't re-invent the wheel but it is interesting enough to keep you going and there are different paths and choices you can take during quests. Your decisions bear consequences but nothing immediately obvious or extraordinaire. There are 3 different skill trees (Warrior, Technical, Magic) – Warrior is straightforward, Technical is flashy and Magic is both underwhelming and over-powered.

The game’s weakest points lie in its combat, animations, vast yet empty world, over-used assets and an ending that was obviously rushed. Facial animations leave a lot to be desired and can be almost compared to ME:A, but it’s not critical if you can overlook such things. I, myself, grew used to them after a while. The world is, too large for what it offers, a poor design choice in all honesty, since a more condensed but meaningful experience could have proven more fruitful in the long run.

If you’re a detail-oriented player you will notice oddly identical interiors and clones everywhere, this is particularly noticeable when you visit the governors’ manors in each town. Last but not least – the ending. It felt like the devs poured a lot of effort into the beginning and mid sections of the game only to realize they were running out of time and resources to do everything they wanted to. The ending is abrupt, followed by a slideshow depicting your choices and the consequences thereof.

Overall, it’s not the kind of game that I'd play a second time but I did enjoy my time with it. I consider it Spiders' best title yet. I would play a sequel.

PS: There is romance in the game, including gay options, but don’t expect it to be meaningful and deep. Although modding is a thing for Greedfall, it's not officially supported since the devs never released the tools for it, nor did they plan to. What exists and can be done, is limited.

I guess from now on I'm supposed to imagine how great a game could have been, if the developers had enough money? There's a long line of AAA failures in the past year that say otherwise. And Greedfall certainly doesn't have to hide from the Anthems and Fallouts 0.76 out there.

It's far from perfect, and it misses something to focus on, that one really *great* thing among all the mediocre writing and graphics and mechanics. Everything seems to be designed to make a good first impression, but doesn't have any depth to it. It gets stale very fast because the game is pushing every button in the first two hours, and then just stops progressing in any discipline.

You *think* you've got a lot of RPG skills and ways to solve problems, but most of the time it comes down to which of the three doors (the locked one, the exploding wall one or the open one where you have to talk to people) you choose, and more than once I ran into at least one of the other "solutions" by accident.

Other times you know exactly what the "solution" is going to be, but you still have to run across town several times to activate the scenario where you can get to work on that solution. You have elements like climbable walls and super obvious "blocked" doors that tell you exactly where a mission will take place and how it's going to be long before that scenario is activated. And yet they still have you backtracking across the whole city twice and more to "solve" that mystery.

Is that how great RPGs work? No. Mediocre RPGs that bit off more than they can chew, yes. So they should really keep in mind that they have limits the next time instead of turning it into an excuse.

And they have to do something about the facial animations OR do a LOTR game where everyone is the mouth of Sauron.

Unlike that game, there is no interesting, choice-heavy dialogue or challenging, engaging combat. Instead, dialogue is almost completely linear, and any choices you make are essentially irrelevant. As far as combat is concerned, it is mind-numbingly easy compared to something like DA:O, even on the highest difficulty (note that difficulty in this game only affects how much damage you take). Character customization is extremely shallow. Companions cannot be customized beyond their gear. The story is decent, but considering there is virtually no player choice involved (and I mean it, there are no big decisions to make here like DA:O with the exception of the ending), I was just too bored to go on with it. This feels like a Dragon Age: Origins knock-off of decidedly lesser quality. Absolutely not worth $50 -- $20 sounds more reasonable, and even then I would hesitate purchasing.

    4. As for the enemy mobs, you can count them all on your fingers.
    5. 95% of your time will be taken by the moving from one NPC to another.

The "critics" who gave this game more than 50-60 are to be ignored. Because giving higher ratings to the game for the "ambition" of the company is just makes no sense. Making a decent, overhyped, overpriced product is not "ambitious". It's hilarious and awful.

The game plays great, looks decent, and while the story often stagnates, it's content-rich enough to burn 60+ of your hours, if you wanna do every quest etc there is. Characters looks great and while lip sync issues do exist, it's nothing really gamebreaking. The combat even on extreme is manageable and the bosses actually provide a decent challenge while being pretty epic fights at the same time.
While polishing issues are evident and assets are often reused(It's a low budget game after all) fans of Technomancer, Bound by flame and generally old school rpgs are definitely advised to give it a go.

It's an old school game, with discrete levels in place of a continuous open world; in itself, that's not bad and the levels are large enough, but the graphics are definitely meh, and the yellowish tint doesn't help its visuals. From the very start, the adjective summing up my impressions has been "clunky". Movement, quest structure, the dialogs... it all feels like a low budget C-movie. What really buries any chance of enjoyment is combat. I picked a mage and decided to play, as I almost always do, on hard difficulty. Combat consists of facing 4-5 enemies attacking nonstop, since the rest of your team usually gets KO'ed in about 5 seconds. But hey, cross an invisible line a small distance from where you started and the enemies instantly recover 100% energy, sheathe their weapons and return to their starting point, while your sidekicks also revive. There is a parrying mechanic which works well against humans, but fails miserably on beasts, who have no clear attack pattern. Also, when facing two or three enemies at a time, parrying suddenly loses relevance. A magical dodge/teleport skill transports you in the middle of an enemy group, rather than where you are pointing. In short, combat sucks. Badly.
Oh wait, the rest does too. Cliched characters, cringeworthy dialog, embarrassingly stupid quests, super ultra bland skill tree. While most RPGs are guilty of one or two of the above faults, Greedfall greedily embraces each and every one, maybe that's where the name comes from.

Some people have tried to say the facial animations in this game as as bad as Mass Effect: Andromeda but I strongly disagree with that statement. They're not that bad by any means and I say that as someone who's played both games.

The combat is lackluster if that's your thing. Personally I don't play games for the combat but rather for a good story, which I know is an uncommon stance to have. This game is mostly just running around and talking to people. There's a stealth element in this game but it's not really all that great. There are some choices in the game that do influence the game but it more so influences faction relations, which is fine by me as the factions are all really interesting and different. The most annoying part of the fighting is the fact that your companions have the same dialogue when they enter combat and Vasco's is super loud and annoying (and I say that even though he is my favorite companion).

The companions are fantastic and they all have their own companion/loyalty quest lines that are amazing. There's also romance in this game if that's your thing and it's really well done. The factions are interesting and the story is phenomenal. This game's side quests are quality story-driven content if you ask me. There aren't really many fetch or kill quests in this game. The soundtrack is also wonderful as well as the art direction. And yes, the quest decisions that you make DO matter.

The world isn't really too open. It's kind of linear in the way that Dragon Age Origins was. Personally I need that because I so easily lose focus in a game with TOO open of a world. So if you're like me, this game is for you. Your companions don't stand around approving and disapproving of every little thing you do throughout the game, which is nice. Their approval and disapproval is more based on what you say and do during their loyalty/companion missions.

I've encountered a few graphical glitches and whatnot but there is a patch coming out soon that I imagine will fix a lot of things. There are a lot of grammatical errors in the subtitles but it's very easy to still figure out what is being said. There have been a few lines here and there that refer to my female character as male. Sometimes in dialogue the camera gets glitched out and you'll just see a wall or something. None of these glitches have really been game or immersion breaking. Small inconveniences at worst.

It's unfair to completely compare this game to The Witcher, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc. since those are all AAA titles and this game was made with a much lower budget and a smaller team. This game was clearly made with a lot of love and you can feel it.

Bit of poison on my blade, then LET'S GO!

Many situations can be resolved by diplomacy through the use of various skills like intuition, charisma, bribing or intimidation. You can ofc get what you want by force too. Or you can bypass certain requirements by finding clues or having a companion who can help you thx to his/her ties to certain factions.

The character customization is complex enough, you can have various builds, replay value is definitely there. The gear is varied and looks amazing, can be upgraded by crafting as well, allowing even further customization. Combat is fun imo, its up to you how complex you make it, by investing into spells or abilities. There is also some element of strategy with the ability to pause similar to isometric RPGS.

I was impressed by the visuals, the environments look great and like I said already, the gear is just beautiful to look at. For AA studio, the level of detail, texture and animations quality puts many AAA developers to shame. There is some clunkiness ofc, the lip syncing isnt great, I had 2 or three instances of characters in cutscenes not being where they should be, but I never got stuck anywhere nor did any of the quests bugged on me, which I think is insane, considering the states of games that come out of AAA studios.

The biggest issue I have with the game is the difficulty balance. I played on extreme and I think the first 15 or so hours gave a fair challenge, you have to think about your approach and using potions and coating is advisable. But I spent a better part of the game going through everything with no problem and most of my consumables and abilites became obsolete. Also I did every quest in the game and while I enjoyed every minute of it, sometimes the amount of running back and forth had me wondering how convenient it would have been if the game used the option to instantly teleport to the next person of interest. The game does so in few instances and I think its a great aspect which should be implemented more often in the future.

Overall, this is my goty so far and I CANT WAIT to see how Spiders studio grows and what is their next project going to be.

"The factions hardly differ from each other."

One faction, The Bridge Alliance, is amorally dedicated to the progression of science and knowledge. They have an uneasy relationship with the natives because they may or may not be involved in something I won't discuss because of spoilers, but there are several strings that, if you pull of them, can cause events to progress differently later in the game, and some of the outcomes are mutually exclusive.

One faction, Theleme, is a theocracy complete with an inquisition that's burning people at the stake. Besides being at war with The Bridge Alliance, it has it's own politics, it's own internal schisms, and how you navigate through them and deal with their representative leader on the Island will determine not only the church's relations with other factions on the Island, but potentially the future of the whole theocracy. I won't say much more because of spoilers.

The Natives are made up of varied clans, some are at war with the colonizing factions, some plot against one another, some are friendly towards outsides and others are immediately hostile. Whether you can avoid conflict and how you deal with natives can have lasting impacts throughout the game.

The Nauts are a secretive group that mostly keeps to themselves. You'll learn more about them as you play the game. A word of advice, always keep a few Naut's outfits to disguise your team, you'll need these more than any other disguises, and if you want to stay in good standing with them you'll often need to go undercover.

About the only faction that seems to get along with everyone is the Congregation of Merchants, your faction, however, the Congregation of Merchants is completely reliant of the Coin Guard, and there is corruption within the Coin Guard that I also won't go into because of spoilers.

The Congregation of Merchants also has it's own secrets and it's own hidden past which may influence your allegiances later in the game.

"All the characters in the game are extremely one-dimensional."

Characters frequently have secret agendas and hidden layers that won't be apparent right away. Sometimes this game will try to bias you for or against a character before you have a chance to learn what they're really up to, or give you a wiff of a false trail to lead you, in your head, to blame the wrong party for an action.

"The game doesn't even have an interesting goal"

You set out as a trained diplomat groomed for nobility on a mission to broker agreements between warring factions and, as a side project, seek out a possible cure for a terrible plague that's killing your mother. While whether or not that's interesting is subjective, I find it interesting.

"there are hardly any real choices for the player to make."

The game constantly gives you choices when dealing with factions and characters. Many people who cheat or take Diplomacy as a starting skill believe that the only choice for the best outcome is always the diplomatic choice. This is not the case, often using diplomacy is merely the path of least resistance, but doesn't yield the best outcomes.

There are also decisions that have negative short term outcomes in terms of reputation damage and the like, but can lead to more interesting situations and more positive outcomes later, sometimes including a larger net gain in reputation than would have originally been possible.

"Also the whole story is stretched out way too long for what little content there actually is to it."

It's not because the story has branches and subquests that can branch back in and influence the progression of the main quests, but the backtracking is frustrating. Another Critique I have of the story is that there are moments where the game would seem to emphasize time constraints that don't actually exist. You can sleep and wait and travel around for literally years worth of in game days without missing what is implied to be a time sensitive quest.

It is tedious to once again see religion as some crazy inquisition type fanatical, violent and secretive group of violent people. This point gets me when it comes to narrative as it is repeated almost all the time and is just not reasonable. If we really want to sterotype somebody here let's go for the third reich or Pol Pots Cambodia or maybe Communist leadership in Russia all of whom took a fanatical and macabre delight in murdering countless millions of people, mostly because they were religious. Napoleon would be another good example , the way invading forces across Europe raped and brutally murdered, Spanish and Portuguese (who were mostly Catholic) all for the purpose of a single Europe under an Emperor enlightened by science was madness. Anyway, my point here is simple, be a bit creative with your plots and stories. Graphics don't matter half as much as the tale; it's easy to overlook bad lip sync, monotone voices, bland faces and a slighlty better than average combat system (thought that was a good effort) if the tale, characters... 'life' of the game your telling and i found it underwhelming.Portu...................................... Expand

The game has some character progression to allow you pick your playstyle. You also have choices on how to complete quests, albeit the outcomes are not game changing. The game is not attempting to be something new, they have tried to appeal to an already existing style that has gone quiet for a few years.

The characters and enemies in the game are interesting although some do bear some resemblance to 1 or 2 other recently released games.

You will play as an intersectional hero (colonist, native and a naut at the same time) navigating the world of noble savages, evil colonists, bossy women and effeminate men in a stitched together story with no meaningful choices.

From the start you will notice a completely unrealistic, immersion-breaking depiction of society. The game borrows cultural and ethnic traits from the real world (unlike most RPGs), but mixes them in a dissonant way. That includes: historical role reversals, eclectic architecture, unfit accents and ridiculous pidgin language, unrealistic interactions between groups, fragile women in male roles (admirals, commanders, miners, stevedores), effeminate sailors and soldiers. A utopia for a delusional political activist.

It wouldn't be so disheartening if the game wasn't so immersive and enjoyable otherwise. The world is beautiful, beasts are a work of art and labour, your role as a diplomat is meaningful and consistent, but every human interaction is a cringe.

As with any story driven by predetermined conclusions, character actions make no sense in the context and provide no choice to the player.

For example, when a couple of missionaries are trying to enforce a contract that nobody else has seen, it is somehow on the other side to find that contract. But when the contents of the agreement are established, somehow everyone is fine with the missionaries not holding their end of the deal.

The sensible story would be to claim the contract void, when the proof of it couldn't be produced. And when it could — to uphold the contract. Which is complete opposite of the game narrative.

Not to mention that the contract itself contradicts the story, as no assistance has ever been provided by the missionaries.

Why? Because the goal of the quest is to portray one side as deceptive and corrupt, not to explore a story with non-obvious choices.

There is no room for nuance, a single decision will lock you into a predetermined path of other unrelated decisions. The choices themselves are trivial, typically between clueless or immoral colonists and wise tribal natives. If that wasn't enough, a companion will nudge you in the "right" direction.

In some cases you are given no choice at all. For example the character would simply let go natives who confessed to have conspired and killed 3 innocent people. And in the same quest you have no option to accept a bribe from the opposite side.

As the game attempts to completely reinvent the reality (instead of just adding supernatural elements to it), it is full of stitched together contradictions and the story does not resonate.

Two major "plot twists" appear completely out of the blue and make no sense.

Another two major plot lines end with some lacklustre "revelations" about environmental pollution and "socially constructed" morphological changes: bad, bad, natural science should make way for tree hugging and cultural studies.

The only intriguing story about the history of the island should've served as the main plot line, but it ends up underdeveloped.

Greedfall uses a modified PhyreEngine (originally for PlayStation 3). It looks very good, but FPS is low and can't be improved by lowering settings. Vsync drops it even further. Camera is what you'd expect from a console engine: terrible. Not as terrible as in Prince of Persia, but about GTA-terrible. FoV is good and has an option. Controls can be remapped, but not all of them.

The game does a very good job with immersion: only essential UI (HP bars), no minimap, change of music alerts of proximity of enemies, companions alert about low HP/MP in combat. The last one would be good, if their battle cries and pet names weren't so cringy. Luckily, you won't hear those alerts too much, as the companions die within seconds.

I strongly recommend against starting on Extreme. It's not hard, but it's frustrating and unfair. The enemies are much faster than you and spam skills non-stop, some of their attacks are instant, other have unexpected reach, every blocked attack stuns you (even projectiles), charges and projectiles take a turn towards you if you roll away too soon. Oh, and multiply that by 4-6 enemies.

Console camera with auto-distancing and bushes blocking the view don't help in combat either. Targeting is broken, the character charges into an enemy off camera behind his back, instead of the one highlighted. Using pause or target-locking creates even worse experience. Sometimes the character punches the air in front of him, other times jumps straight to the enemy. As a mage you can't even tell, when you are stunned after a block. Enemies lose aggro and reset HP few meters away from their spawn.

Conceptually it's a very good skill-based combat system, but it needs more polishing to be challenging while remaining fair and smooth.

    THERE IS A SPRINT BUTTON.

Some minors performances issues here and there, but overall the result is pretty good. The sounds are fun but the soundtrack isn't something to brag about. The combat is precise but I found the difference between easy to normal to be quite high. At a certain point (3/4 of the game), weapons and armor upgrades are useless. The skill tree is something of a frustration. It's too slow to get the skills. Exploration is fun but the fast traveling system is very limiting. They are fix points on the map, and not always practical. Some area have long spaces with nothing to do. i give it 82%. I really enjoy it because of the story. It's a good RPG and I hope this new team can make another one. Expand

I like Technomancer quite a bit, despite it's flaws, so I had strong hopes in their new game. But they did not deliver.
It start's ok, with a bit of a tutorial feeling in the first big city. But afterwards in the main area of this game, this feeling never went away, it even got worse.
This game is more like a running simulator and a fashion dress up. Good + Pretty to look it +

    Good
    + Pretty to look it
+ Voicing is good (I did not mind the synching)
    + Strong Setting
+ Story is kind of ok, somehow

    Bad
    - Vast and empty areas, my finger really hurt bad from keeping the sprint button permanently pressed
    - There is hardly anything to explore anyway, you should not do it unless sent
    - Towns and interiors are copy and paste, a lot of paste. Even the 3 town layouts are just basically variations. Interiors are nearly identical
    - Hardly any variation in animals and fighting ... the same groups of beast herds over and over
    - People and animals do nothing except standing around and for beasts sleeping sometimes
    - No children, makes no sense. People do nothing all day.
    - There is quite a a lot of different armor and weapons, but they always have the same stats and at some point you only want the uniques anyway
    - Gameplay and fighting is boring. I used about 2-3 magic skills as a mage. Everything died so fast, that probably one skill is enough in most cases.

I think they made the mistake of going for a big, open world, with pretty visuals.
They tried to keep the story and the voicing high, but they ultimatly failed on size, at interesting details, with game mechanics and with delivering motivation to play.

i liked the unrealistic graphic and sound is really well organized but too be honest game economy is broken
difficulty levels are broken (a little)
and some ability s lack the complexity they need (like charisma or intuition)
level up process is good but some of them is not really practical
fighting is good i liked the idea of using armor like that
like i said story is good quest are well maid even side quests are as good as main quests
game has various ending like 60+ (at end game you just get to chose between two option but game offers a outro based on your choices during the game even choices u made on side quests ) i really like that

But they still managed to achieve their goal and make a great experience, one you are not likely to forget. From the get-go it's obvious that they had to cut many corners: character models are akin to those in Skyrim or The Witcher 2 (both from 2011), some interiors and NPCs are copypasted and voice acting can (at times, although not always) be meh. But what they did get right is world building, setting, characters, story and quests. The world (despite not being seamless and consisting of multiple medium-sized hubs) can be astonishingly beautiful (although for some reason the devs opted to fill it with ugly brown filter - look up a decent ReShade preset on Nexus to fix colors), its landscapes breathtaking. Companion characters and main NPCs are well-written and believeable. The story is unpredictable and quite interesting and so are the quests that never have player be a delivery boy. Despite the game having its limitations. I enjoyed every second of it and wholeheartedly recommend it.

    Pros
    • Interesting story
    • Unpredictable and well-written quests
    • Believeable characters with interesting backstories
    • Beautiful world (that need a ReShade to fix brown tint, but still)
    • Rich leveling system
    • Fun combat that (for me) never really got old.

    Cons
    • Poor character models
    • Low variety in the world's fauna (which is still believeable, I guess)
    • At times terrible voice acting (for the Natives faction - their accents are not believeable, but maybe it's just me)
    • Use of copypaste in interior design (unavoidable for such a small team, but still a flaw)

Why I give it 8 and not less? Because I believe the dev team achieved exactly what they wanted to. This game is not The Witcher 3 killer. And it was never meant to be. But it's a solid RPG experience that I can't recommend enough.

I loved that you can play as male or female. I loved the little romances you could have with your companions. I liked greatly the styles, details and fabrics of the armours and weapons. I wasnt keen on the hairstyles but I understand the reason why they are like that (limited budget) I enjoyed greatly the story and being able to play it as I liked, side quests weren't completely locked into main quests and I was able to complete most side quests before advancing the main quest on my first play through, on my second play-through I advanced the main quest first and it felt like a very different experience. That was nice and well done.

Im delighted that modders have been able to work on this game so thats another huge plus for me as that gives me another reason to keep going back to it which gives me so much more bang for my buck and enjoyment of course.

I felt the voice acting was good, it took a while to get used to the natives strange accents, but I am now.

I would have preferred to be able to fast travel from anywhere to camps or city locations as sometimes the running got a bit tedious. I also would like to see a wee mirror of transformation in the player house/camps so my lady could change her hair or eye colour. But I know that the budget put constraints on cosmetic extra's like that.

The fighting was fine. I only used magic skills and I enjoyed that on easy. I didn't try on harder settings as I play for story and rpg elements. I enjoyed the crafting and upgrading abilities. Would have liked a few more talent points as I leveled but that wasn't a deal breaker.

The environments were nice, linear but still with some exploring. Im not mad on too much exploration. It was a nice mix in this game. Spaces felt open but weren't too open for my comfort.

Overall for this game I would give it an 8.5-9 out of 10. So thrilled there are people out there prepared to make games like this. Im thrilled to have this game in my library and will revisit it over and over again. For me this game was worth every penny I paid and I wish spiders staff and management the very best in their future endeavors.

    1. Quest system: after 15+ hours I haven't had a single fetch quest. Most of them you can solve in multiple ways.

    2. Dialogue: well written and although in old timey style, it isn't pretentious and really fits the game. As a bonus, most voice work is great which is surprising for a smaller dev.

    3. Combat: its fluid and well executed, tactical pause is a must on hard+. Challenging but not maddening. (unless yoy try and do arena at level 5, bring some pots and antidotes is all I'm saying...)

    4. World building: factions are believable and they have their own motivations that make sense in game. Natives have many tribes with their own approach, as well. While they reuse assets, it's not as bad as DA2, imo and the game looks good.

    5. Stability: not a single crash or even major FPS loss (tho I understand this is down to individual machine probably and mine is a decent rig).

    CONS:

    1. While combat is fun, enemy variety is lacking (which I understand, but still).

    2. Facial animations are off (not hugely distracting).

    3. Customization of your character is pretty basic, less options than in most modern RPGs.

    4. Few bugs such as killed enemies stay up (stealth killed Naut guards in New Selene for instance). Not major but definitely something to iron out.

TLDR a great, unique western RPG with a few quirks but very enjoyable. Highly recommended! Thanks Spiderman. Err... Spiders!

Surprised something this good came from an indy studio when you out do Bioware and Bethesda that is saying something.

Two things the only a slight bump on this game thus far is facial animations/rigging of the faces and a couple problem spots in game with mass assets that lower performance a bit even on beefier machines but does not ruin the experience. Both are overlooked easily due to this being an Indy title and the fact of how good it is. If you want a good single player rpg game that draws you in like a good book. This is the game for you.

This was such an enjoyable game even when it was sad and emotional at times as its quite the dark game. Its surprising a AA game can outperform with story and gameplay when studios like Bioware and Bethesda and failed miserably in recent years. Yes as its a smaller studio with a lower budget some mistakes come through like, being a female character and being called him or prince etc about 60% of the time hopefully they patch this in the future. I didn’t experience the motion sickness effect the walking cycle was fine for myself and didn't experience any frame drops like that.
All in all I played a diplomat that wanted the best for everyone to unite and have peace so a paragon route and it produced a lovely ending. Also with my romance with Kurt was pretty adorable so happy I picked him. With the twists and turns of this story you get a lot of surprises you are expecting I am happy to give such a high score as I haven't experience this quality of an RPG in a long time and hope this studio produces more quality content in the future my eyes will be on them thats for sure.

Played it for 25 hours and this is a fun game with a rich story - much better than a rating of 73 would suggest. It does need some polish on graphics performance, but the story more than makes up for it. Lore is interesting, companions have fleshed out back stories and interesting loyalty quests, interesting and varied side quests - I cant remember any that felt like boring fetch quests.Played it for 25 hours and this is a fun game with a rich story - much better than a rating of 73 would suggest. I would compare this to Mass Effect 1 in a way - graphics poor, combat: clunky - but the story was so good that it makes you forgive and forget

I find this game very attractive. Because it combines the genres of RPG and conversation, and I really love these genres. It is possible that this game is not for everyone, but even if you do not like it, it at least deserves respect, even if it was not developed a rich studio. But this game has pluses such as the plot, and it’s not bad in this game , also in this game RPG elements are well executed, also this game has decent graphics. But judging objectively This game deserves a 7 out of 10, but my subjective evaluation of 10 out of 10. Expand

The game is great, I have been playing for 18 hours so far.
It is for all RPG lovers, with a good story, interesting side quest, fun combat, atmosphere, and lovely visual art- crafted with love and care by the company Spider. I didn't play any other their games.

An excellent game, especially for an AA production.

The graphic quality is realy nice, the artistic direction is gorgeous.
I really liked how you have several ways to solve a quest.

The story is great, just like the dialogs. If you liked games like Dragon Age 1 or the Witcher 3, you can't go wrong with this one :)

GreedFall boasts a unique, semi-open world in which to immerse yourself, but is held back by the limitations of its game engine.

The Spiders studio didn´t take players‘ comments on the previous titles seriously, and they repeat the same mistakes. GreedFall offers an interesting world, full of amazing characters and ideas, but lacks in other aspects. [Issue#298]

Greedfall is a tough game to judge. It's neither bad nor great. It comes staggeringly close to greatness in a number of areas, but it just lacks the polish or ambition to go further. If you're looking for a nostalgic trip back to the mid-2000s style of WRPGs, then you'll find a lot to like in Greedfall. It's worth a shot if you're a fan of that style of games. In a year that gave us titles like Disco Elysium, it's difficult to be particularly impressed by something that is merely standard.
