Gorytale is a fist person shooter about a bad individual that died and is sent to his personal hell. Apparently, it's nothing but rainbows and sunshine for him. Your goal is to murder all the candy people. Pretty simple. As you progress, you unlock more weapons to your arsenal. Each weapon has its pros and cons. The most overpowered weapon is also the same weapon that can kill you. Creature drop items like coins or ammo. You can use the coins to upgrade your weapons but it can get pretty grindy. Each stage adds another creature for you to murder with a different twist. Some creature shoot objects at you, some just want a hug, and others just want to fart.
I may be overthinking this just because of the world we live in today. I just feel it needs to be pointed out. You eventually end up having to kill off creatures that look like the spaghetti monster. I found it amusing and didn't really think this one out. The devs may have it out for Scientology but who knows. One of the bosses is called Lil'Marshamllow. It looks like a typical hipster. So I am going to assume they hate hipsters because the description on the wiki says, "The OG marshmallow. Sweeter than all the other marshmallows combined. Sends you love/swag kisses. Tends to dab." What really got me was the last stages. You eventually find a wall that you have to destroy. Like, Trump wall kind of thing. Once you destroy this wall, you legit have tomato mobs rushing towards you dressed in sombreros, ponchos, and woe mustaches. Legit looks like something from an old cartoon that would portray Hispanics. They also spit cactus at you for more insult to injury, Then you have another mob that is called the chillibar and on the wiki link to the image of that mobe shows ChilliAkbar. Not only are they portrayed as suicide bombers. They have a long beard and carrots that look like bombs strapped to their body just like a stereotypical terrorist from Iraq is portrayed as. And above all, they were making noises that reminded me of what old Hollywood movies and old cartoons would portray Native Americans in battle. Have I gone backward in time when stereotyping was ok? I'm assuming the devs don't care what they put in a game. If it offends anyone, it's not their problem. I personally don't agree with their way of thinking. Especially with the current situations in America. Very touchy subject and they're ok with punting the hive.
Overall: 3/10
The gameplay is simple and the mobs are easy to kite around. It's pretty much a bare minimum version of Duke Nukem, Serous Sam, Doom, and Quake. Melee weapons are a joke and range weapons are your bread and butter. It's a very short-lived game. You can blow through and without fully upgrading your weapons. Then it's back to level one. I'd give it a much better overall score if it wasn't for how they portrayed some of the creatures/mobs as. This game came out last month. Technically 16 days ago. So it's a fairly new game. They know what they added in the game. They know their audience and it's not me. If you enjoy this kind of humor, go for it. I'm not stopping you but I don't recommend it.… Expand
