Is the game p2w? No, it's not. You can realistically complete the game without dropping a dime.

    2. The game has numerous timegated mechanics such as resin, processing, etc.
    3. The game also has a battlepass system, with some missions literally impossible to finish without using the gacha currency.
    4. The exploration isn't nearly as interesting after an hour or so of exploring. The "puzzles" are repetitive, the scenery is repetitive (god I hope you love the color green), and the chest rewards are all at best mediocre.
    5. You cannot rebind controls.
    6. You can't skip cutscenes, and are forced to click through dialogue. Even if you like the story you would have to do this for mundane sidequests as well.
    7. Going from A to B without waypoints is excruciatingly slow, as is climbing.
    8. You're letting a Chinese company put a kernal level anticheat on your computer.

So if you want to try it and form your own opinions go ahead. Just be aware of the technical and predatory issues that the game is abound with.

"At the start of the game everything feels awesome, beautiful anime graphics, okay story and cross-play seemed like a dream come true, but after ~20 hours into the game all the negatives came hurling in."

Now, almost 1 year later almost nothing has changed. Maybe you can change the 20 hours to 30 or maybe even 40, but that's it. The endgame is basically non-existent with no future improvements in sight. After catching up with the story and exploring the majority of the world there's only a daily, repetitive grind of ~30 min. Sometimes there are events that increase the time to 40-45min.

Regarding rewards, the company is rather greedy. Usually, there is about one new "rare" character every 6 weeks. On average getting that character once requires around 105 pulls, but as f2p you don't even get a pull every day. Furthermore, similar to other gacha games, pulling a character multiple types improves it. This is literally impossible to max as f2p and costs multiple 100 bucks as spender. As f2p you best quit after the story, as light spender you can maybe have fun for some additional time and as whale you're just burning money.

Don't play the game now, rather treat it as early access. Wait a couple of years until the story and all regions are completed, then you can enjoy the game.. for a while. Playing right now and grinding out your characters is just a frustrating chore that is unlikely to yield significant advantages in the long run.

The combat lacks depth and the exploration is lackluster as it tries to copy Breath of the Wild but lacks any traversal mechanisms or physics engine that makes movement in Breath of the Wild fun. Combine that with predatory mechanics towards the late-game that prevent you from advancing without serious time commitment or paying for materials, it's impossible for me to give this game anything above a 1.

This game may be free, but your electricity bill isn't. Do yourself a favor and do literally anything else.

-After AR40, character talent materials are now tied to the weekly bosses. There is a 1/3 chance that they drop the material you need, meaning it would take you months to actually max out a character.

The positive reviews are from people who haven't played this game enough to see its problems. I am now AR39 and my playtime has been reduced to 15 minutes per day because of resin. If you're looking for a good game that respects you and your money, then look elsewhere.

The rates for getting new characters are maliciously low. The riculous number of different currencies in the game are designed to gatekeep you from getting any meaningful unlockables easily. Same old song from Mihoyo, new game.

As someone who has played Mihoyo's games before and now having played this, can tell you from experience how this works. Yes, the game is pretty. Yes it's fun.

Adressing the pay to win aspect: 5 Star heroes do a lot more damage and cary you over the game quite easily. They feel unbalanced and make the game boring.

All in all a grind that does not feel good, a technical disaster and a money grab. And we didnt adress the topic, that the game looks like a rip of breath of the wild. Really not worth playing.

Now with the update 1.2 i thought about reworking my review, but the new game features and the new part of the map are even worse, than what was there before. Still a bad game, which lost even more fun with the newest update, still a money-grab, still not worth to be played.

The feeling after playing this game for two days is that I am so confused an perplexed at what they want to do. The producer company Mihoyo market it as an RPG when there are millions of ways destroying player's immersive experience by switching characters during a quest. Some character I don't even know the background story, I just got it through the also confusing gacha mechanism. And why on earth would you include such a horrible p2w thing coming from mobile in a so called PC game?

If you only allow the players to continue the main story mission after reaching a certain level, why making it so hard to level up? What if I just want to listen to the story and get out of the game? Are we not allowed to do that? If I ask you why the graphics of this games sucks, you say its because it will be mobile as well. If I ask you then why mobile is locked to 720p 30fps, you say oh because its a PC game. If I then ask why you have gacha in a PC game, oh because it is also a online game. If it is an online game then why is the player interaction so weak? Oh because it's a freaking PC game again...

If your intention is keeping the players in the game even after the main story, as evidenced by the gacha mechanism, what do you want them to do eh? If your plan is to release part of the story bit by bit, when is the end?

This one point is granted only because the data of your game is shared between mobile and PC, the only thing I like about this game, and that's the end of it.

Right now a lot of players aren’t complaining about this because of the games honeymoon phase but this is detrimental to F2P player base months down the road if Mihoyo doesn’t address this issue.

Now to address the resin issue. For starters, you can’t even finish the weekly resin usage missions on the battle pass without spending primogems or fragile resin to refresh. What kind of joke is this if you’ve bought the battle pass? It’s like paying $10 for the pass, then requiring to spend extra resources/money just to complete the pass. 8 min per 1 resin capped at 120 is a ridiculously low cap and slow regeneration rate even for a gacha game. At least in Fate Grand Order they allow you to raise your cap through levels and let you stack a lot of energy regen materials like golden apples for events for free.

After AR30, the game becomes super dry in terms of content, I just log in, do dailies, use up resin for 20 min, and just log off. I think this problem will be resolved once new content gets released, but is also a byproduct of the poorly designed resin system.

I really hope Mihoyo listens to players criticism and feedback. Like I said, this game has great potential, and I want to see it succeed, but this starts with communication and cooperation between the developer and player base.

I give it 1/10 out of respect for the amazing art/music in this game. But the core gameplay system is just straight up terrible

Rather than a typical online game, Genshin Impact resembles a traditional single-player jRPG with a real-time combat. For a free-to-play title it is very impressive, but turns out to be pretty derivative and quickly slumps into monotony. [13/2020, p.52]

Overall, in spite of things that should bring Genshin Impact down, the game is so much fun to play that the negatives are ultimately minor gripes. [...] The gameplay is smooth and simplistic, and it works great on all platforms - though I’m still not sure why the PlayStation version can’t be linked to a Mihoyo account so I could play on my phone when I’m not at home (PS Vita version please??) but it’s a small gripe to an otherwise terrific game.
