I've been playing this game for a few days now but I've decided to quit. With their rate of wishes, I've got nothing but 4 stars. I didn't want to top-up and get the 5 star not of my choices, so I've decided to quit. You can grind with the starting characters but it takes alot of time and some of the 5 star characters just made the game easier. Sadly, this still has alot of bugs during my time of play. Still its a china company so its typical they want you to top up in-game currencies and spin the gacha. Some of the mechanics and interface are terrible. Puzzle-wise its simple but time-consuming. One thing that I hate about this game is that they include gacha in their decks which make characters in this game scarce. Those big bosses was unbeatable late-game without good characters/ weapons.

In conclusion, you get the character the wanted, then its playable. If u get rubbish like I do, its unplayable. Pretty much a gamble/grind fest. The whole system just doesn't make sense for me. So that's a negative.

This is something even the game itself doesn't know and is what's confused most of the people around and is what created the first problem. Genshin has severe identity crisis. It's a JRPG? It's a Mobile gacha game? It's a AAA title aimed for all?

The game tried to find something in between all this and created the mess we see today.

You see people trying to defend the game by saying "This is a Gacha game. This is how it works. This is how it's been for years." Now all these things are complete BS.

Genshin isn't and was never intended to be your typical mobile gacha. It tried to appeal to the mainstream audience. The instant Genshin was being developed for PC, Switch and PS4 it rose above your typical Gacha game. It wanted to cater to the mainstream crowd. Now this creates the very big problem that is the difference between Mainstream gamers like PC, PS4, Switch and Gacha Addict mobile market. While gacha addicted mobile gamers are used to being fcked over by **** practices by those companies, the mainstream crowd is different. Some of them are completely new to the gacha system. Just accept the fact that gacha is a very bad monetization model, some games have implemented it in a nicer way which actually isn't bad, but Genshin monetization is just straight up ridiculous.

Genshin was promoted as JRPG from the very beginning instead of being your usual gacha mobile game. This is where most of the mainstream players expectations shattered. Things like being limited by stamina system for play is a norm practice in mobile games(Not all games do this but most of them do) BUT it's not in the mainstream market and this is something which is not acceptable when you go for broader market. You can't just expect them to conform to your **** stamina system and be all happy happy. You're gonna get backlash.

Resin(this absolute piece of **** item in Genshin)

Resin system is just ridiculous. While being already bad in the first place, it's way worse compared to even the stamina system of other mobile gacha games. Almost 95% of the stuff you do in the game is locked behind resin system. You wanna farm Mora? go spend resin, you wanna farm exp? go spend resin, you wanna farm artifacts? go spend resin, you wanna farm upgrade materials? go spend resin. What's even more ridiculous is the amount you need per dungeons, bosses and the amount you get.

Resin is capped at 120. So you can run hypostasis 3 times and poof it's gone. Once you get to higher level even running hypostasis 3 times doesn't give you enough material to level up your character. The regen rate is also crap 1 resin per 8 minutes.

-Uninspired this is one of the biggest gripe i had with the game ,this might very well be the most uninspired game of this generation ,which says alot since this generation is so filled with uninspired games even worse than dark souls clone ,this however takes it to ridiculous heights even the damn map looks almost exactly the same as Botw ,it tries to steal so many gameplay mechanics from breath of the wild and sure this really does sound great on paper it ultimately fails miserably i will explain later on in this review ,it even steals some animations from nier automata and it has an uninspired anime artstyle to pander to weebs because they are the ultimate simps who will spend their money on an anime waifu.

-Gameplay mechanics are shallow and just dont work well together ,like the characters can do all sorts of flashy moves but god forbid if they sprint or climb their stamina will deplete ,this is kind of like the opposite of what nintendo does ,nintendo adds few gameplay mechanics and build an entire game around it ,GI however just shoehornes mechanics from very popular games and add gacha on top of it and just expects it to work ,elemental combos started out great but later on it just became awful ,same with RPG mechanics do you know why? because these mechanics have not been worked upon lack depth and are just added for the sake of more content.

-It just baffles me that reviewers and many people praise the story, im not expecting planescape torment or Disco Elysium but has the bar really been this low? the story is the most generic anime garbage i have seen in a while and unless you enjoy that stuff im not judging ofc ,the praise for this games story is as empty as this game.

-Awful dungeon and boss design this is part of my complaint on how the game shoehornes uninspired gameplay mechanics and expects it to work ,the dungeons suffer from the same thing.

-Enemies lack variety and are poorly designed

-side content/quest are mediocre at best ,poorly designed and will get repetitive later on

**** Endgame and resin system if you read most reviews here you will get what im saying so i dont think i will need to echo what everyone has already said countless of times.

Overall i only recommend this game if you want something for free and have literally NO game in the backlog you might even enjoy the first part of the game but ultimately it will fall apart later on ,i hope next time we see something that is original and has depth unlike this mess of a game

Started playing it March 2021 Love the characters, music, story, gameplay and enemies everything was fine until the awful wishing system. When the Tu Hao Event Banner release wanted Tu Hao badly I rolled until the event ended couple of day before the event was gonna end I put in extra hours playing the game three times a day to grind Primogems to roll for Tu Hao even went as far as to Upgrade Statues of the Seven in Mondstadt to their max level since u get Primogems for that the goal here was to collect 10 Intertwined Fates these little orbs u use to get your characters with the awful wish system. So I collect 11 Intertwined Fates than rolled on Tu Hao banner had one day left may I remind u and ended up getting duplicates also keep in mind I rolled her banner when this event was released still haven't gotten her. This wasn't the first time where I grind for Primogems to get the Fates had previous bad past experience to the point I've gotten duplicates yet again, not gonna lie did had some good rolls here and there managed to get Jean, Quqi, Diona & Xiangling the characters I wanted, but getting the rest will be a pain and honestly I already given up since the wish system is so bad. Wouldn't mind grinding for some characters like instead of rolling for Barbara and Xiangling you can grind the game to get them, However for others you have to relie on the bad wishing system I know it's a f2p game but if your spending money on this game they should increase the luck or something because at the end of the day your paying out of you wallet which leaves me to my other problem. Don't put money onto this game it ain't worth it at all I was testing the waters spend $30 to get Genesis Crystals this was in June 2021 rolled 10 times gotten duplicates yet again felt like my money was wasted never gonna put money on this game ever again unless I know what I'm paying for. The only thing that's worth paying for in this f2p game is this $4.99 Blessing of the Welkin Moon you get 300 Genesis Crystals that can be converted to Primogems to do a wishing roll & you get 90 Primogems everyday you log in until 30 days this the only thing that's worth it in my opinion if your planning on putting money down on this game. Also you will bump into a issue where the game level up you World level where enemies levels will go up to but your characters will be under leveled to take them on than you gonna reach a point where your low on leveling up materials so advancing in the game will be very difficult if you don't get use to the battle system and knowing which element type is weak against to give u a better chance to beat this higher level enemies you gonna have to learn this if you get to this point in the game and not gonna lie it was a really bad experience for me had to put the game down. Also forgot to mention the company Mihoyo doesn't care about their consumers heard from my little sister Mihoyo said to celebrate the Anniversary of Genshin people will be awarded a 5 star character such as Mona, however people ended up getting Primogems in their inbox instead which made the fan base mad, also Mihoyo hasn't added a Flexible way for people who wasn't able to unlink their PS4 version of Genshin Impact and link it to PC to PS4 it's a pain to unlink a already made Genshin PS4 account to your already made PC account to it which has lots of stuff you unlocked on it you have to email them and their customer service is not that great either takes days to wait for a reply man might even take weeks. The company doesn't care about it's fan base and they don't deserve any of my money at all should of expect this would happen since I heard about how they handled the anniversary rewards. Expand

The game is beautiful, good soundtrack, good aesthetics, nice combat, nice world and exploration.

But it goes downhill once you realize how greedy and stingy the company is. 1. Resin system basically limits your play time so you can only maximize 4 characters in a span of 1 year. Whilst you need 8 at least to complete Spiral Abyss. Unless you pay for $10 per day for extra play-time.

    2. Wish system is super predatory if you're a monthly spender or f2p you can only have a VERY limited choice, you basically can only play what the game decided to give you.
Or wait half a year to secure a character and you can't even choose because by the time you have the currency to get the character banner is not even there.

To me, miHoYo only want WHALES as their player. So be it then.

The resin system dictates every aspect of character progression to around between 3 to 15 minutes gameplay per 16 hour period. In a game with a combat system that promotes party composition diversity and multiple set ups you cannot level more than 3 characters due to lack of resources.

Even then the resin system is not for time gating either. Given you can pay $15 A DAY. To triple your daily allocation of resin. And the fact that later character upgrade materials are locked behind bosses that have weekly lockouts who have a CHANCE to drop those materials.

Then to top it off with global communities complaining about this, content creators, whales and f2p alike the devs simply raise the cap of resin (not offer more) so instead of 16 hours to regenerate 120 it’s now 21 hours to regen 160. The company is so out of touch with a) the community b) the console and PC market c) the western playerbase it’s actually a joke.

The base game itself is really great; the combat is fun, the controls is decent and there's some party and gearing strategy involved.

The problem comes in when the monetization comes into play. The monetization of this game is based on the energy + gacha system, that you often see on mobile games. You won't notice this in the early stages of the game (which is intended to lure you in), but the higher level you get to, the more exponential the issue becomes.

The game will time lock you from progressing and put the things you need JUST out of your reach, tempting you to 'just spend to refresh your energy and you might get what you want' all the time. The energy system in Genshin Impact is one of the worst one I've seen from all the mobile gacha games I've played. You will run out of resources and in order to keep up with the 'difficulty curve' of the game, you are forced to only focus on a select few units and weapons. You cannot raise and use all the different characters and weapons at once.

The Gacha itself is also fairly atrocious. While not 'the worst', it's down there with the rest. The rate to get a 5* is 0.6% and the rate to get a 4* is 10%. There's only a single safety net, where you 'guaranteed to get a single 5* within 90 rolls'. (This is 10 for 4*). Every other single rolls you make that aren't 4* and 5* are absolutely worthless. In the current state of the game, spending money on gacha might not be 'needed', but it definitely gives you an advantage and you'll definitely have a better time if you do spend money on the gacha.

If it weren't for the (passive-)aggressive monetization system, the game would have been amazing. The voice acting comes in English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese and they are really great. The graphics is pretty good. The combat is one of the better ones I've seen. Trying out different weapons and characters for party is fun. Some of the puzzles are interesting and some of the challenges are rewarding to complete. Finally the world is fun to explore for the first time.

However all of the game's strength and positive points will come to a screeching halt once you hit that 'energy/gacha wall' and you're forced to just wait it out or spend money to play more.
So this game is really nice for very casuals that plays at a very slow pace or whales that can spend money to keep on playing.

The soundtrack, the artstyle, the gameplay elements are of a Triple A quality, an immersive initial experience within a great awe-inspiring open world that ends up falling on its face as soon as the ugly face of monetization shows itself and parasitize every single system the game has to offer.

Most reviews have talked about the issues in this title, the resin system, the very low rates on the gacha rolls, the total absence of an end-game, the thin and gated gameplay loop, the paid battle pass, that requires more cash to be spent to finish it, all taint a game worth an 8 or a 9 into a below average end-result as demonstrated by the anger and frustration that leads people to rate-bomb the game.

The game is a living and breathing identity crisis as it tries to take from every genre, and while it succeeds in some aspects, it always damages the good ideas with infuriating monetization schemes.
It does not serve its coop mode, more of a clunky afterthought than a real feature.

When the exploring is done, the world is a colossal empty piece of land with absolutely nothing to do in after the 10 minute daily quest is done.

This game had the potential to be what World of Warcraft was to the MMO genre, taking an obscure niche genre and broadening its scope to become a Gaming Titan. Instead Mihoyo elected to forcefeed mobile monetization and predatory practices to a shocking degree, even for gachas and probably cuddled the market into accepting gambling addiction exploitation as a new norm for PC and console now that the mobile market is saturated with it.

In the end, this game is probably worth a 4 or a 5, but it is reasonable to see those business practices as an unethical introduction for gamers to gambling addiction and incredibly overpriced systems. Mihoyo may have singlehandedly changed the face of gaming if the industry follows this trend.

This title is like a dark prophet, announcing a wasteful era in gaming, where talented and creative artists, developpers and musicians are cannibalized by a greedy industry, unwilling to consider the craft of video-game making as the art is deserves to be.

Imagine a team of talented artists making a gorgeous game, but the game is unfortunately directed by the most out of touch director/team there is. The part where they copied from Breath of the Wild is awesome as expected, but every other part where there's business involved is awful.

The game expects you to pay, I mean it is balanced around players paying for its paid perks. If you don't, you'll just never have enough. They even had weekly quests that required you to pay to play more than their daily limit if you wanted to complete it, yes, there's a LIMIT to how many activities you can do daily. It's like they don't want players to play their game.

The gacha system itself isn't bad, but they chose to put atrocious rates. So expect to pay up to $200+ to have a 75% chance at getting a character you want. And then you probably won't have resources to use them, because they come at level 1 and your enemies will much stronger, and the only feasible way to level is to do your very LIMITED daily activities. So you have to choose to either spend your activities to level your new character, or continue leveling your high level ones who are probably doing all the heavy-lifting already to clear the same activities.

The pay to win in this game is, unfortunately, too much. You can see in many games where paying gives players a small boost/advantage to catch up with others and in my humble opinion that's fine, gives players who doesn't have too much time to play a way to keep up, but in Genshin there are items/systems that are only designed for PAYING players. There's a bunch of items that the only way to obtain is by paying, as well as skills/level-ups that are also only available if you pay (and pay a LOT by the way).

Their balance is also out of whack, in nearly everything they give as low resources as possible, you'll never have enough of anything to level your characters and their multiple systems that require leveling up, and there's a bunch of ways to purchase (real money) these resources you desperately need just to feel you're not being left behind. Enemies will keep getting stronger, and so must you, but you'll struggle to keep up unless you pay, that's how it's balanced.

The game is still in its infant stages, but a lot of these are complaints from players ever since their beta began and their direction did nothing to address these, so I hold very little hope they'll improve any time soon. Probably when their player base/profits sink so much then maybe they'll take a second look at these complaints again.

In short, it's a beautiful game with great gameplay (copied from a critically acclaimed game afterall) filled with poorly business decisions trying to squeeze money from players in every possible way.
It is free to play, but expect the usual scummy cheap mobile game money grabbing tactics limiting you to play in every way unless you pay. Just stay away from this for a couple years when they improve their game and check if it became a whale-only territory with 20 players online or an actually decent game.

On the other side, you have the business decision team who're actively trying to prevent players from playing and enjoying the game with terrible gacha rates, inflated prices, resource shortage, over monetization and even time gates progression to prevent players from playing too much.

Players are torn between praising the game's visuals, score and writing and loathing pretty much everything else. So far, the bad business guys are winning, hence my score of 3. The art team can't produce content fast enough while the bad business team is slowly chipping away our motivation to play every day.

If you can play this ignoring all the business/limitations, just for the story, playing very casually over months, then you'll enjoy the game a lot.
If you want to play until you have your fill, assuming that fill is more than 15min/day, then you'll curse the game's bad decisions for not letting you enjoy it.

I don't think it's worth playing it in it's current state, wait until there's more content and that these issues are (hopefully) fixed.

This game swept the world with its "free-to-play" facade. You don't need to spend money to enjoy it, sure, but at the same time, you'll get locked out of playing at your own pace thanks to resin, and good luck getting your characters to a viable strength to beat the abyss thanks to its artificial difficulty. But... that really didn't affect me when I realized how insanely monotonous the gameplay is. My favorite streamer started to main this game, and it's the same thing each stream. sadge. All he does is grind and grind and fukcing grind. And he even moans about having to do it... which would be playing the game. Sounds like fun /s. He has preached that you can enjoy 100% of this game as F2P, which is utterly false and rather ironic considering that he has spent almost $10k. Yeah, really sounds like you don't need to spend money to enjoy the game to its fullest /s. But again, it's ridiculously repetitive, so it kinda just stops being fun after a day or two, which makes any money spent a complete waste in my eyes. And the fact that it has the most basic of quests like "go kill these hilichurls for me", "go get me five apples" is honestly kind of insulting to gamers. It's 2020 and people are seriously content with these generic quests? Fukc that.

However, I will praise its open world for its scenery, the game's overall aesthetic, and its music. I especially like the mountainous area, dunno what it's called. But it's still a sad excuse of a map. Open world games are supposed to have interesting locations and be full of detail, but all Genshin has to offer is a thousand hilichurl camps to slaughter. Everyone defending this garbage game seems to think that it being "F2P" justifies almost all of its flaws, but come on, miHoYo is making bank off a game with a pathetic amount of content, that being the story and an endless grind. Surely they can afford to make it tenfold better. It also baffles me that people will ask, "is a triple-A title worth my precious $60" and then everyone and their gramma goes to spend a minimum $1k on this just to get sh!t on with its garbage drop rates. Yikes. People aren't gonna stop you from spending your money how you want, but it's completely irrational to gamble hundreds let alone thousands of dollars for a single character, and keep in mind that you'll need to pull them a total of seven times to see them at full potential. AND ALSO KEEP IN MIND that new characters will come out over time, possibly with powercreep, so then you'll be even more incentivized to do this all over again. In conclusion, if you enjoy this game, get‎‏‏‎ fukced.

one more thing tho, it has spawned some gud hentai, so that's cool.

And you need 6 more characters to unlock the constellations, which make your character stronger. The best weapons ingame are only obtainable through gatcha.
The gameplay is very simple but fun. The only annoyance is that you do the same thing everyday and the rng artifacts. Theres not much variance.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imagine, your playing breath of the wild, and before you can leave the great plateau and head on to Kakariko village, you have to reach adventure rank 10 in order to access that next place. Which means you cant go onto the next part of the story without grinding excessively for a few days. This is basically what Genshin Impact is.

The story is so boring that at one point- Chapter 1 act 2 has you buying things as the main focus. Yes the plot of that whole act is that you walk around Liyue buying jewellery and making perfume, with a broke demigod by your side, and as attractive as Zhongli is- his character dialogue had to be one of the most boring and complicated things I'd ever read in a video game. Chapter 1 act 3 had me grinding a good few days before I had to access it and I don't think I've ever played an a game where I had to wait a few days just to access the next part of the story.

The game rips off a lot of things. Like I get taking inspiration from games like what Undertale did it to Earthbound but the amount of things this game steals from botw is insane, like I genuinely hope its get better down the line, I really do. And another thing they managed to rip off was fire emblem of all things! Just search up dainsleif and dmitri and I'll let that do the talking.

So if you lack patience or you appreciate a story rich game this game really isn't for you. However if your a weeb who's willing to spend a hundred dollars on your favourite, "waifu" or "husbando" then go and install this game right now,

My suggestion for game developers is to rework the resin system to allow players to grind for resources. The current model is turning a lot of players off. It is very frustrating when we can't use our characters because we can't level them up because of this system.

Chests should respawn every few days so players have a reason to continue exploring the beautiful landscape developers have created. It's relaxing to just explore the game even if I visited the area before, but no chests gives players no reason to keep playing, it makes the world feel empty.

The rate of primogems a player acquires should be the same as it was in the beginning. Being able to do only one wish a day, even with a paid subscription, is just not enough incentive to keep playing. If there was a way to keep grinding for primogems that allowed for at least 10 wishes a day, that would be ideal, but the thought of grinding for a week or more for just one chance to get a new character, it kills my excitement for the game.

If the developers reworked their gameplay/resin/primogem model, they could have a much larger loyal player base. Would have played for several more months with a subscription if they changed these aspects of the game. Instead it's only playable for about a month before the game feels stale and unplayable. A shame considering they could make more money and make more people happy if they just changed these few things.

    PROS
-Great graphics, though some form of upscaling support (DLSS and FSR) would be appreciated.
-Combat system is decent and has some depth to it.
-The World itself is gorgeous, especially Liyue and Inazuma.
-SOME characters are fairly well written.
    -Interesting lore.
-Characters and enemies are well design (in terms of looks) and Azdaha is amazing.

    CONS
-Bad plot, and I don't mean it only for the Inazuma chapters. The game plot was kinda bad right from the start actually. While the characters, setting and McGuffins are different, each nation main story has the same formula. You meet an archon and it residents, help them with their nation crisis, fight boss, turns out its the **** Fatui over and over again. Its the same formula as those kids Tv shows. You can predict the plot and 75% of the time you will be right.
-RNG on top of another RNG. I usually enjoy farming in games, my favourite franchise is Monster Hunter and its loot (monster parts) had medium to heavy RNG. But Genshin RNG is **** dogsh1et. Don't even expect you get even a decent artifact for your characters. I've been grinding artifacts for Childe for MONTHS since his rerun, and never get anything useful out of it.
-Interesting lore, ruined by writing 101 mistakes. I interested in raiden and wanted to learn more about her, but then Yae just casually dropped the bomb and TELLS almost everything that could make as an interesting scenario to discover Raiden Shogun as character and make raiden's quest a shopping mall trip lmao. "SHOW, DON'T TELL".
-Beautiful graphics, horrible render distance and optimization. Its hard to appreciate the landscape when the rocks and trees suddenly changes and jiggles like crazy everytime and the game rendering the land only like 5 meters away in front of your face. The fact that genshin runs worse than an emulated BOTW with graphics mods and RTX enabled on my PC is baffling.
-Everything about Ayaka's quest. Really MiHoYo? A **** date quest, in the middle of a civil war? If it was optional I could forgive it or at least AFTER the main plot of Inazuma, then do whatever you want with her.
-Electro as an element. Electro characters are the most fun to play yet their potential is gatekept by weak electro reactions.

That's all and dear MHY White Knights, please go and touch some REAL grass. Your nothing but a bootlicker.

    Sincerely, me.

First 30 hours are amazing, you are drown under gems, chests and rewards and after the game becoming the worst credit card scam in video game history.

It is not a video game, it is a virtual casino wearing a video game skin.
They do worst than EA/Blizzard all together.

This game is an empty shell:
    - no combat customization - no combo system - no customization at all - no skin system
    - no real content (all quests can be done in 1 day) - no endgame - no re-playable adventure dungeon
    - no end game The only thing you can do is upgrading your characters.

The resin system created to farm anything you need to upgrade talents, level, weapons, craft ...
is depleted in less 45 minutes. And after that you need to pay with real money.

You will mash the same button over and over and over. The combat system was created in 1990 and feel empty and useless. And can be described as: mash mash mash, use 1 skill, swap character, repeat.
Even 1990 RPG get you more possibilities.

To play a character you seek, or even a good weapon or artifact, you will need to bet on loot box
renamed here: Wish. Or fight small dungeon using your limited resin per day.

Good luck with that. Good luck to get the one you want. Awful system who was used into Star wars battlefront at start and was suppressed by EA some time later when all the player base leave and loot box was declared illegal in some USA states.
This game is based in China so you will never seen that happen before at least 1 year "at best".

The worst part of this game is: Even you get all the characters and artifacts and weapons you seek, you will never get enough money or stuff you need to upgrade them with in-game free to play resources.
You will need to buy tones of resin. I am talking about 5000 USD$ at minimum.
Be aware, this is not my point of view, this is mathematics.

If you are looking at the press you will see they have been fooled, as us all.
Because you can't see the real purpose of this game before 30 hours of game play.
This "casino" video game is not here for entertainment, it's here to rip off your credit card.

This game "was" a ray of hope, but now we know this is just a disgusting cash grab.

Imagine that into FF7 original or even the remake to:
Bet real money to get a random character "Cloud, Barret, Tifa .."
And bet real money to get a random Materia,
And bet real money to get a random weapon,
And bet real money to upgrade anything.
And bet real money to get artifacts.
No one will ever play FF7 even with his amazing story and his very large content.

Genshin Impact deserve the award to be the worst game in history for his monetization system.

    Long Answer:

The gameplay is one-dimensional and becomes stale shockingly fast.

It has no real identity of its own because it blatantly absorbs aspects from other games to try and have as much mass-appeal as possible to lure people in. A result of this is that it's all surface-level and most people realize this by the time they reach "Adventure Rank 30". Aka the ranking system from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon except turned into a slightly annoying grind instead of a tangible accomplishment.

It's literally a Mobile game. Right down to the oversimplified braindead controls and some awkward camera issues on mouse/keyboard. The graphics are also an obvious holdback of this too but less important. However. HOWEVER. Being a mobile game also means something else...

Lootboxes. The game is fully designed around lootboxes and trying to force the player to spend money. This is probably the single worst offender for this practice because it lures people in with the façade of a good game that doesn't really exist and then stonewalls progression if they get invested.

It is genuinely not a good game. Anyone who has a gambling addiction or suspected vulnerability towards it... Never play this "game". Keep children away from it. Keep everyone you can away from it. It sets a very bad precedent for game development.

The UI is bland and ugly. It is ok for a mobile game, but it is hardly acceptable on PC.

But as you can see, those are pretty subjective problems. The game is objectively much worse than it could have been, but not necessarily bad. You can go and try it for yourself, and probably you'll like it. The world there is actually great.

This game starts out wonderfully, buy does not allude to its extremely horrible monetary restrictions until you're about 30 hours into the game. The graphics and story are interesting but ultimately end up extremely disappointing at the end.
    1. The story ends abruptly, and there are a TOTAL of about 40 quests in game. The quests are a large part of the in game currency and character experience, when you finish them, that stops completely. You get maybe 13 character experience per monster kill, which is about 1/1000 of the experience you got before.
    2. After you finish the story, there is very little to do. 4 daily quests, and you can do 3 to 6 "stamina" related activities.
    3. The stamina system is by far the worst and most punishing aspect of this game. It takes 18 hours to refill, and at the current "end game" you can't even level your characters or equipment once with 1 day. You'll more than likely need 3-4 days of stamina related activities to advance one aspect of your setup.
    5. This stamina system basically forces you to stop playing after 20 minutes, because you can't receive anything for doing any activity.
    6. The game's co-op in this game is pointless and it punishes you for even attempting it. All bosses are easily solo'd, and if you go to a friends world, you do not receive rewards for opening chests, doing timed challenges, or helping them in any way outside of stamina activities. This is done to ensure that people do not progress quickly because you run out of experience gaining activities very quickly.

This all leads to no progression, which is the point of this type of game. There is literally nothing to do after you finish the 40 quests the game has given you. You could build a 2nd team of characters, but with no quests to provide you with currency and experience items for your character and gear, it turns into a grind that is extremely unappealing. Taking weeks to meet any one goal.

I do not recommend this game in its current state, and if you do play, do NOT invest money in it.

    - World is empty, even though it feels and looks amazing at the start when you're doing chapter 1 and 2 of the main story, there are interesting characters, but after that you're gated with adventure level, keep doing dailies and wait for your level to go up.. Or go spend the money and buy yourself some resin so you can level up faster. There are few types of puzzles all over the map, after completing you will get a chest with useless weapons and currency.

    - Wishes, of as it is better know - gatcha system, greedy, totally killed experience of the game, Don't get me wrong, I played few gatcha games and they were fun and I willingly put some money into them, but this game just doesn't value your money. Chance for getting a 5* star character are lower that 1%... Are you serious? They are expecting 100$+ from each player. Oh, you're not paying, or you're not paying enough? - No good characters/weapons for you.
Other gatcha games at least give you some "premium" currency so you can accumulate it and go for pulls. But this game gives you 5 currency for every achivement, and you will be saving up a week to do one 10-pull (which costs 1600). And you will get same ****, like you're opening common chests all over the map.

    - Combat system is okay, i like the element mechanic.

All in all, pay-to-win, don't bother if you're not planning to throw some $$$ every few days. Biggest gaming let-down of 2020. Not coming back.

Look at that good games like Witcher 3, FF VII and etc. Genshin impact could be one of them, but we have game that let u work for a good story or pay really HUGE money, cuz u need about 700 pulls for getting one specific 5* character.

Genshin Impact is an adventure RPG that uses a world level system based on your adventure rank. The reason they used Adventure rank is because you control multiple characters so they couldn't base it on your own level like in skyrim.

Early game (Rank 1 to about Rank 35) you'll be able to pretty much experience the game to it's fullest without any difficulties. The problems come when your adventure rank goes past that point as the material requirements to level up go through the roof. Characters require weapons to be leveled up, diablo-like trinkets to be farmed so you get the right stats and then leveled up, along with their own skills that require talent books to level up. This is on top of having to get ascension materials from world bosses to, you guessed it, level up.

So what happens when you get to late game and pick up that brand new shiny character from the gacha system? Well, you'll be in for potentially weeks worth of farming to simply use that character, and this is what kills this game and why so many people are leaving it.

Yes, those people in the other reviews saying "you don't need to be super leveled to do the content" are correct, but the difference is you could be fighting some basic monsters for up to 3 minutes while someone else who has better luck and gear can clear those monsters in under a minute. Outside of two special quests, there is no way to stop the world level from creeping up as you play.

There are a lot of people complaining about resin blocking the gameplay, but honestly resin is a far less problematic thing than the RNG on party composition and gear.

Oh yeah, and you have to roll on a roulette wheel to try and get better weapons than the basic ones they let you craft in game, which is on top of rolling on the character banner...

A 2 out of 10 for the visuals and musical composition. I can see why some may like Genshin, for its slow-paced gameplay, but I think it's fairly lazy game design.

The whole story of the title just goes away when in game events come which tend to be completely irrelevant to the story and is just made so you could get more in game currency for gacha. The developers did say the game is free to play and it is not forcing you to pay although it is true, initially they did encourage people to spend money in game. The developers is also fully aware that the free content in the game is pretty much the bare minimum for you to progress through the game, which imo, makes it a semi-p2w game. After reaching AR 40+ you hit the end game already, content is getting released too long which again makes it have an identity crisis with its Triple A title. Everything has a soft limit, you cant progress in game far enough to be relatively "good". Gacha rates is low, there are alot of people defending the rates but were talking about a "Triple A" game here. Personally, the game feels more like a money grab at this point, the devs decided to be lazy and not add unique animations to each character such was walking animation but rather have a universal animation despite getting alot of money already. Game is good initially but at its core it feels more like a mobile gacha game that had an identity crisis than a true Triple A title. Overall not worth your time playing in the end game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It has started beautifully, but current situation is a mess :(( The Anniversary "Rewards" are just the last straw that broke the camel's back and now the community is lashing out hard... which I can understand. I also want to lash out.

I'm a relatively new player - started playing only 17th July 2021 and fell in love with this game hard and fast. Primarily because of lore, plot and characters - it's very hard to describe just how great the narration is (was at the beginning). The conflicts and mysteries plotwise were superb, the voiseacting just plain fantastic (my deepest respect to VAs), the gameplay - tons and tons of fun... But then we've got what we've got. The "resolution" of Inazuma questline - and I use quotation marks very deliberately.

I'll repeat, I'm relatively new and also very casual - I admit, I'm ready to forgive many issues which matters a lot to others, like new characters being weak. I, though, cannot deny it. I disagree with community about Baal (Ei) - I find her quite strong and useful even C0 and without signature weapon, personally I think she is great... but even I cannot make sense of Kokomi. How was she supposed to work; why a "healer" has Hydro damage bonus and must be on the field while ulting (and as DD she is... subpar); seriously, what is this and why?

But I can forgive this. What I cannot forgive is the rushed "resolution", in which Resistance was just forgotten (plotwise it wasn't even needed that much, it appears, which is a big wtf). In which Ei's personality is mismatched to the point of not making sense - you cannot be both Zhongli (as Rex Lapis, before retirement) and Venti at the same time. You cannot claim that you are concerned about your people and wish them well; be present enough so the will of Shogun is something people feel and respect, be there... and simultaneously not be there, because HOW THE HECK DID YOU NOT NOTICE THE FREAKING CIVIL WAR IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, OH MY GOD. If you ARE the ruler who is present, then let your puppet stroll and observe and see. If you are done, than you are done - leave your people to govern themselves like Venti did. Otherwise you make no sense and your talk about "not wishing to stop people's lives from getting better" sounds plain delusional. Also Scaramouch story is just dropped on us out of nowhere and is so "told, not shown" that it feels utterly underwhelming.

Like... I know for a fact that writers are talented. Liyue was astonishing, Mondstadt was also great (I like it less simply out of personal preference) and Inazuma started really glorious as well... So what happened? Why has it ended the way it ended?

Story was murdered halfway. New characters are... questionable. And don't even let me get started on "rewards" for artists and cosplayers competitions, those are just insulting. And the Anniversary "rewards" are icicle on this cake - and so we are where we are.

I love this game. And it is said that developers has listened to commumity before. I hope they will start doing so again - because I do not like where this is going ;__; They made this game great - so why are they ruining it?

(English isn't my native language, so I apologize for any mistakes)

    - chests dont respawn, making it harder to get new characters without paying in the late game
    - mihoyo does not listen to player complaints
    - the hilichurl enemies (who are described to be dumb, and not understand human language) are designed based off of native americans (i shouldnt have to explain why this is racist)
    - mihoyo constantly whitewashes their own darkskinned characters
    - new limited 5* dont compare to old limited 5* in the slightest despite having the same pulling rate (0.6%)
    - story and writing gets more and more lazy and rushed as the story progresses
    - characters are shallow as **** being 99% design and 1% personality and charm

tl:dr, if you want to play genshin, take your time with it to enjoy the first few hours to their fullest. its not worth speedrunning the game. but other than that, i wouldnt reccomend playing this game. its a waste of your time

Expensive game by Brazilian standards and with disappointing rewards. Once you get strong you have nothing to do, in the end you try to make the character a god.

Very similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild, where the game gains a lot of inspiration, but if it's done good, i don't see anything bad in it.

Story-wise, we don't have anything that is complete, only 3 out of 7?(may be more) chapters are available right now, and the dynamic of getting new chapters isn't too bright, given that it took 9 months for the 3rd to release, and another month for it to finish. Which is a shame, because the story is quite interesting, i'm not going to spoil anything, i'll just say, that even after a year playing the game i still find myself reading through dialogs and not skipping any cutscens.

The gameplay is very deep, with vast world to explore and unique playable characters. By the way, that last point is one of the biggest problems with the game. Characters are either 4* or 5*, latter usually stronger, and are harder to get. On fact, so hard to get, that after a year of playing you'd have 5-6 5* characters, if you're a f2p. There are also 5* weapons, which are as rare as the characters. And there are artifacts, with rng so bad, i have been farming them for 3 months not getting ANYTHING decent. A nice adventure becomes -log in, do daily commissions, go get 5-6 bad artifacts, log out, repeat the next day-. Talking about characters it's hard to not point to the lack of balance: some 5* characters are useless, some are extremely strong for no apparent reason, some 4* characters are extremely strong, some are useless. That would be the problem if you were the one choosing, but in reality it's gacha that decides your fate.

It has flimsy bits copied and pasted from Breath of the Wild, superglued together seamlessly enough to give the impression of a real game. Instead, the meat of Genshin Impact is in the menu, which is a merciless jungle where the currencies are called Mora, Fates and Primogems, but are all proxies for the same rabbit hole: real-world transactions. Now, some folks enjoy seeing their money siphoned out of their accounts since there's a perverse thrill in knowing you might not get anything back, making the times you do all the more exciting.

The game has great potential. Being the most successful game to break the fastest earning records within a short period of time, breaking the 1billion record and all. And has potential to earn even more and revolutionize the open world game genre in multiple platforms.

The music is amazing, the art and character designs are good. Those are the best parts of the game need commending for.

The music is amazing, the art and character designs are good. Those are the best parts of the game need commending for. It surpasses its initial perception as a Breath of the Wild clone surely.

    BUT…
all those hard work of blood, swear, and artistic tears are smeared by:
    - the lack of Quality of Life improvements,
    - limited “energy” (this game called it “Resin”) with mobile games limitation
    - limiting the gameplay and enjoyment of players to truly enjoy and immersed in the game keeps it short;
    - the greedy and stingy company’s decisions: becoming more stingy and stingy (compared to their generosity near launch a year ago vs. anniversary rewards/celebration),
    - unwilling to listen and adapt to players’ feedbacks,
    - pure PR disaster of fans giving the game bad reviews due to the lack anniversary rewards/celebration,
    - that PR disaster also spills bad review onto other games/apps store pages too,
    - more PR disaster of blatantly censoring players’ opinions (especially negative ones, despite being constructive and wanting to improve the game)…
    - more and more bad “design” decisions developing short-term game features that gamers will abandon once they get “the Catch” or reach max rank for the Teapot Housing system, etc.

TLDR this game is becoming its own worst enemy because it became so successful overnight, and the company has no idea how to carry on forward, especially by ignoring its fanbase that contributed a lot to the game success in the first place.

Enemies can easily chain stun, knockdown and freeze you constantly
    Greedy microtransactions
    Toxic community
    Few items, few monsters variations
    Empty world

This is exactly how I can sum up Genshin Impact, terrible toxic fanbase that has staunchly defends the greed from miHoYo for a game that is a mile wide, but merely an inch thick, on the outside it appears vast but everything is so heavily recycled, you're doing the same stuff over and over again.

Game isn't a 'breath of the wild clone' so stop calling it that, what Genshin Impact is a single player grindy gatcha game with so many broken aspects that cause no end of frustration. Genshin Impact is a product of a rabid fanbase hyping the game up so high that it cannot possible come close to actually how good the game is, and the further you get into the game the worst it becomes, not to mention the world although beautifully created is barren and mostly devoid of life, you'll come across the same 5 monsters over and over again.

First off, lets talk about levelling your characters which is a grind in itself because your main source of exp comes from books like Hero's Wit which are found from random chests which force you to explore every nook and cranny in the world which you have absolutely no choice but to explore, secondly you have to level your weapons and artifacts which is...yep another grind. Also for some crazy reason, you also need Mora (your average in-game currency) for everything, even to level up your characters and each pull you'll on average get 9 of the same 3* weapons over and over which serve absolutely no purpose except to burn your money away, because there is a extreme lack of items/weapons and characters so naturally, you'll keep getting the same stuff over and over.

Exploring consists of wander around, fight groups of mobs for a chest to appear and rinse and repeat, or complete a basic puzzle to gain another chest which usually contains just levelling up mats or useless gear. Later in the game, you'll face less trash mobs and mini-boss after mini-boss and it just goes down hill from there, especially once you start fighting highly buggy Ruin Graders which absolutely love to reset themselves making the entire 10 minutes you just spent getting it almost down for it to run off and reset, this happens FREQUENTLY and are known issues to MiHoYo.

Lets talk about the gatcha system, yes you can 'unlock' some things for free but later in the game you really need to spent money to get desirable maxed constellation* characters with great 5* weapons because the difficulty spikes especially after AR40+ become insane, and that tread continues even at the start of the game some basic challenges can be frustratingly difficult whilst others you can't really fail, which makes me highly question the balance of the game.

*The constellation system is basically if you get a duplicate character from a gatcha pull, and you will quite often then it buffs that characters constellation by giving them a bonus power up to C6 level and later in the game, this becomes so much more important and eventually you'll hit a point where you can get stuck unless you spend vast amounts of money, sometimes as much as $1000+ to get a fully powered up 5 star character.

Lets talk about Resin, in fact lets not because if you look at most of the 0 reviews, they'll explain exactly the problem with this, something that needs to be addressed but again, casually overlooked by MiHoYo.

Many challenges are so poorly balanced, often having a very strict time limit some are not a problem, but others involving enemies that can stun or freeze are so frustrating, you'll want to smash your computer into pieces as you are stunlocked and lose valuable time to absolute BS mechanics. Quite often the poor game physics can even mean the difference from beating a challenge and failing it.

Very greedy micro transactions, potentially costing hundreds and hundreds in order to get a levelled character, specially 5 star characters which could potentially even cost a thousand or more to get, since you need duplicates in order to unlock progressively better talents for that character, this is exacerbated by a toxic community of white knights and fanbois who have elevated MiHoYo to almost a cult status and defend even the most insidious of business practices.

The powerful 5 stars characters are behind a steep paywall: $500 to get it guaranteed, or 3 months of subscription and uninterrupted dailies. This game is for whales.

It takes more than a year to have a decent account.

Once you have invested time and money to build your roster of characters, you are left with 1 hour of end-game every month.

There is no repeatable content, maps are added about every 12 weeks. That’s 8 weeks of nothingless.

From Genshin CEO himself, the game targets addicted and secluded players.

You can try out the game, and enjoy 4 great weeks.

Then you face the ugly truth, whole game is a just a wrapping to sell you gacha characters.

    Frustration and bitterness await you.

The game has been out for a while and while I was ok continuing with it fr a bit, I'm simly done. Everything is a grind, everything is designed to suck up as much money as possible, and the game does not respect your time. Things have gotten lazier and greedier, and while the game has immense promise, every system in it hampers your enjoyment for that extra dollar (or 1000).

There are 5 or more different currencies, all of which are a clever way to bypass gambling laws. You get some fairy dust that can be used to summon more characters and weapons. The more real life money you spend the stronger weapons and characters you may acquire. I took one look at it and exited the game. Not worth my time. I have played mobile gacha but if I am going to spend money on a mobile game I want it to at least be fun. This game isn't fun, it feels more like a chore.

Rather than a typical online game, Genshin Impact resembles a traditional single-player jRPG with a real-time combat. For a free-to-play title it is very impressive, but turns out to be pretty derivative and quickly slumps into monotony. [13/2020, p.52]

Overall, in spite of things that should bring Genshin Impact down, the game is so much fun to play that the negatives are ultimately minor gripes. [...] The gameplay is smooth and simplistic, and it works great on all platforms - though I’m still not sure why the PlayStation version can’t be linked to a Mihoyo account so I could play on my phone when I’m not at home (PS Vita version please??) but it’s a small gripe to an otherwise terrific game.
