The fact that it runs on a now 16 years old Source Engine is surprisingly a benefit. It adds to the unsettling atmosphere set by the game.
Unfortunately, not all is fine in G String. Some level-design choices are somewhat questionable. I have found myself stuck in places, which I later found out to not be the places i was supposed to be in to progress. It's not always obvious, when I am supposed to back-track and when I'm not. Other than that $18 is i feel to high of a price for a game not quite the scope of Black Mesa. It's just too high, considering G String started out as a mod.
Overall, if you can overlook the minor drawbacks the game comes with, you will have a good time. As I said before, the atmosphere is fantastic. Now because i want to see more done with the game, I am giving it a hopeful 8. There is a huge potential here.

It's level design is almost entirely unique and every time you progress onward, the environments progressively evolve and never show things that you've seen before.

With that said, there are some rather annoying aspects which makes me wonder if it's more or less an art project, with poorly designed sections of levels which enemies end up instakilling you and the lack of design that implies where to go. There are times you get stuck and all you can really do to fix it is noclip out of the area.

Lastly, it's hard to decide if you should treat this as an original game, OR a Half-Life 2 mod because much of the weapons are just reskins or redesigns from various valve games prior.
