Pelit (Finland)Oct 12, 2016Stylish boss rush that resembles bullet hell games at times. Despite providing a tough challenge, Furi is never cheap or unfair. Tight and very responsive controls are worth a special mention. [Sept 2016]
-
Game World Navigator MagazineSep 21, 2016Although each fight has multiple stages, they’re pretty much the same for each enemy: ranged combat, melee clash, bullet hell – and even their order mostly remains the same. For a game that revolves exclusively around boss fights, that’s quite a shortcoming. [Issue#212, p.55]
-
PC PowerPlayAug 18, 2016The difficulty makes Furi pretty inaccessible, but if you like to be punished, this is the game for you. [Issue#253, p.64]
-
Aug 9, 2016With a very high difficulty curve, Furi is not for everyone except for players who can endure its long, complex and amazing boss fights. It might feel empty between the fights, but it creates an incredibly gratifying feeling after each encounter.
-
Aug 3, 2016Furi is a fine example of intelligent game design, which brings back the "skill" factor, contrary to the today's hand-holding games. Furi requires your full attention in order to watch the end credits and for sure you will not regret the ride.
-
Jul 18, 2016Furi isn’t exactly perfect, but with its unique visual and audio design, there’s plenty to like.
-
Jul 13, 2016While it finds its strongest moments in its rewardingly rhythmic, precision-based one-on-one duels, an unwelcome level of tedium and occasionally cheap sequences — made even more frustrating by janky mechanics — keep the action from being as consistently strong as it is visually stylish.
-
Jul 11, 2016If you think that an action game can't exist without boss battles, Furi is a must for you. Various skirmishes are well-designed, placed in fascinating world, with great graphics. One of the biggest surprises this year - but Furi is definitely not for everyone.
-
Jul 8, 2016Gamers looking for a challenge, a beautiful world and musical score, and some truly memorable bosses will still be pleased at what Furi has to offer, however, and even though it’s not the absolute best of its kind, it’s worth a look from anyone willing to suffer through some frustration for what amounts to a hell of a five hour ride.
-
Jul 6, 2016A stylish mix of bullet hell and deft swordplay, Furi is only held back by rare bugs and poorly designed difficulty spikes.
-
Jul 5, 2016Furi has a brilliant combat system based on the player's reflexes and his ability to memorize the enemy's attack pattern. Moreover, Takashi Okazaki's boss design is captivating and inspired.
-
Jul 2, 2016Very possibly the best action game of this generation thus far, this is a rare example of every facet of a game's design working perfectly to create an amazing whole. This is an outstanding effort from a studio I’m going to follow wholeheartedly from here on out.

Jul 6, 2016The good news is that even at its worst, Furi is something rather special. Even the trudging between fights has some fairly nonsensical but engaging chatter and the scenery is gorgeous. Better still, pressing ‘x’ (or whatever equivalent your gamepad has – it’s playable without but not very effectively), automates all of the walking so that you can sit back and watch, or go and make a brew.
