    A really good fighter I enjoyed this game to the fullest. I have some issues with the scenes between "bosses" but those are just picky **** Could have been walking faster, the frame rate tanks and you pretty much have to reset the thumb stick every time the camera angle changes. The story is nothing you play this game for, escaping prison you encounter several gatekeepers that needs to beA really good fighter I enjoyed this game to the fullest.     The gameplay is awesome with tight and once your fighting the game runs smooth as silk, even maxed out @4k with a single GTX 970. Once you get a hang of the blocking you will enjoy giving the smackdown. It is hard as **** but that is what makes it so fun. You can die 10 times in a row but once you get that perfect run the endorphins will flow! =)

    What this game does, it does extremely well. Strung together boss fights with a soundtrack backed by Carpenter Brut (Of Hotline Miami 2 fame), The Toxic Avengers, and even Danger. The controls are extremely tight and fluid. Your screw ups really fell like your fault in the game. Of course, due to the nature of the game, this is not for everyone, but for those that like fast pacedWhat this game does, it does extremely well.     There is also a review of someone saying that the game is ripping off Donnie Darko, but fails to realize that this game was designed by the same man who does the Afro Samurai manga. Yeah, it may have come out after the movie, but the origin of most of the game is heavily Eastern influences.

    Why this game gets docked a bit - the controls between bosses are extremely messed up. Absolutely terrible. I don't get how they can make a game feel so great in combat, but clunky just trying to navigate a small space.

    Wonderful game no matter how you put it. Amazing soundtrack, atmosphere, themeing and gameplay. It's true that the game's not for everyone due to its difficulty, but it's just so much fun.

    The best game to come out in the past decade, is it hard as balls? Yea, will you die a lot? Also yes. But it's oh so worth it when you can say you beat the game. Great story, visuals, controls, game design and most of all music.

    Hard as balls but damn is it good, the music, the visuals, the game design, everything's superb. It may be a bit on the hard side for some (most of the reviews giving it a low score) but if you're actually halfway decent at games it's VERY fair and VERY forgiving.

    10/10 one of the best games ever made.

    In terms of gameplay, it's absolutely fluid. The fights feel amazing to go through, and there really isn't much of a downside to the way the game controls either (Played with a PS4 controller). There is some sort of story to the game, although a lot of it is kind of up to you to decide what's going on, and I don't mean that it's hidden away in stuff, just kind of vague. The soundtrack isIn terms of gameplay, it's absolutely fluid. The fights feel amazing to go through, and there really isn't much of a downside to the way the game controls either (Played with a PS4 controller). There is some sort of story to the game, although a lot of it is kind of up to you to decide what's going on, and I don't mean that it's hidden away in stuff, just kind of vague. The soundtrack is absolutely stunning but there are some genuinely talented artists in there. The only reason I knocked off a point was because some bosses felt a little bit out of order in terms of difficulty honestly. The bosses moves were a bit repetitive too, but nothing too bad. Was still an absolute blast to go through and play. All in all, it's a game absolutely worth playing, and despite everyone saying there's a "difficulty curve" - there is but it's nowhere near as bad as you think. Just a bit more fast-paced than your usual game. Definitely deserves the score it has. Expand

    On a scale of 1 to 10, Furi is an 11. And I'd give it a 12.

    Seriously, if you told me there was going to be a game that i somehow loved more then MGS3 earlier this year i'd think you were crazy, yet here i am writing a review for my new favorite game of all time.

    Just perfect, absolutely perfect. The people giving the game bad reviews for it being "too hard" are a bunch of millennial **** Furi's a real game unlike the AAA **** that comes out now.

    PS the PC games the best since there are no FPS issues and it can run at 4k but the other versions are still good.

    It's just a lot of fun. Especially for people who like bullet-hell games and a real challenge. The soundtrack is great and the visual style of the game is just so awesome. The game is definitely not for casual gamers though, it will kick your ass.

If you liked a music you can just pause and it will show the artist.

    Some bosses are easy while others are hard (depending). Their HP varies as well as their damage. You start with 3 KO bars and every time you "knock out" the boss, you regain 1. Depending on the fight you can regain your health slowly through some means. Whenever you knockout the boss or the other way around, you both will get your health bars fully restored.
    Some fights can feel like a drag, while others are fast. Once you get the pattern of the fight, you can get more aggressive or play it safely. There is close combat and normal battle. Normal is where you play how you want. Close combat is only melee.

    There are sometimes that controls feels weird. The camera not showing you what you want to see. Or getting stuck until you get knocked out or the boss to finish his/her attack. In close combat, dodging can be tricky and ends you where you don't want to be.

    The controls are floaty as **** and don't feel good. Enemy animations are really stupidly unclear. For example, look at DMC3 Cerebus. Cerebus paws draw back for horizontal swipe, raise vertically before vertical smash. Cerebus dog head shakes and sits back before launching forward, and roars before ice comes down. This makes visual sense. For a player that hasn't seem something before, the animations here have so few keyframes that the only way to know what to do is if you've seen that attack before. In which case the animation and art is LITERALLY not doing its job.

    Another key problem with this game is the fundamental misunderstanding of design here with regards to flow. A lot of the time there's choice for how to deal with every attack. Eg. in DMC3 there's a safe approach, a less safe action, and super just-frame action using some bit of some move that lets you do more damage, for EVERY single move. Here what the designers did is like a scissors paper rock approach. Boss does thing, the ONLY thing you can do is this. Boss does this, here's my exact counter. Boss does this, the ONLY thing I can do is this. There's very very little choice. This is like an open world game where the open world is just one linear tunnel, like a narrative choice game with only 1 choice, like an RPG game with only 1 linear skill tree. The whole POINT of these games is so you have a whole kit of choices to deal with each attack.

    If the designer is reading this review, run this algorithm over your entire game:
    For i = every boss in this game:
    For j = every attack the boss can possibly do:
    For k = every button on the gamepad
    If you can't use button K to effectively deal with action j of boss i:
    Add a possibility for button K to effectively deal with action j of boss i to the game

    You will find that for every J there's pretty much just one corresponding K that's actually effective. This is your problem. This is why Dark Souls is making hundreds of millions and you are still indie. Please fix this and I hope you make hundreds of millions.

You dont even need to manually walk from boss to boss, simply press the button to auto walk. This too could have been forgiven, if the boss fights were decent.

    Unlike Dark Souls bosses which are challenging naturally but can be beaten with skill, experience, gear, and smart builds, Furi bosses are artificially difficult with garbage tropes like auto invincibility, auto super armor, auto dodge, auto parry, auto homing shots, auto stunlocking, auto healing, and auto revival on death 6 times - each time getting stronger and more cheating. I did not make it to the final bosses but based on what Ive seen so far, I assume they unlock more cheats such as auto one hit kill and auto teleport.

    Overall this game was so EXCEPTIONALLY TERRIBLE I actually want a refund.

The game is cel shaded and it really makes things look good. Despite the minimum system requirements I played this on beautiful setting at 1920x1200 on a core 2 duo e8500 and a gtx 760. Xbox controller is a must. You can also hit the a button to auto walk in between bosses, wish I had known that earlier! Voice acting and music was a good fit for the battles and atmosphere. Expand

    Bullet Hell Boss Rush with tight controls, fast-paced gameplay, a lovely level of difficulty, and a great aesthetic with a heart-pounding soundtrack to go with it. A surprising level of story to it behind it all, too.

    I love the combat, I love the characters, I love the phenomenal ending, I love the art style, I love the voice acting and ect. It IS pretty difficult and the learning curve is a bit wonky but at the end of the day it's still a masterpiece of a game.

    - Adrenaline-pumping fights that absorbed me 100% of the time.
    - Bosses are all varied in both visual and mechanical design

    Cons:
    - Story is mediocre at best. Obviously this is not the point, but it actually got in the way at points.
    - The walking parts were extremely boring. When you have to add an auto-walk feature to an action game, there's definitely a problem.
    - It occasionally takes far too long between phases of a boss. It always takes too long to restart a fight while losing. I simply don't understand why games still choose to punish the player by making them wait. Not fun and a waste of time.
    - Poor tutorial. Not a huge deal, but going into an unprompted menu to find that you can charge shots is a bit of a poor idea, especially since one's play can benefit so much from the additional moveset.
    - Much too short. While this wasn't a big deal for me since I got it for free in a Humble Bundle, the initial price of $30 is way too steep for a game that doesn't even reach 5 hours on the first play through.
    - Many more cutscenes/walking sections should be skippable, especially for repeated playthroughs.

    Final Word:
    Although Furi has a slew of minor issues that can make getting to the fun parts too much of a chore, the incredible combat, soundtrack, and visual flair of the game shine through brightly. With a bit more streamlining and a tighter script, Furi could've been even better.

    Both of these games have one thing in common: They reward players for trusting their instincts -- for doing what they do naturally as human beings. Players are encouraged to take a personalized approach to problem solving, and these games are liberating as a result, while still providing a challenge.

    A good game teaches players to problem solve. Resident Evil Zero is one example of this. Solving puzzles with Billy and Rebecca can be fun, but the game is linear compared to Director's Cut, and therefore players have less freedom over how they progress through the game.

    A mediocre game teaches players to follow directions. In these games, players are taught what to do and when to do it, and they must learn to ignore their instincts in order to win. Furi falls into this category.

    Typically, games like this devolve into trial and error, with deceptive telegraphs designed to throw off the player's sense of rhythm -- or, as another reviewer put it, confuse the player's reflexes, which is an excellent point that deserves repeating.

    That said, there's still merit to this type of game design. Learning to ignore our instincts and being confronted with our weaknesses as warriors can open our minds. But no matter how we rationalize it, these games don't allow for much self-expression, and the lack of freedom leaves me feeling unsatisfied and listless.

    Furi might be worth it on sale, but I have trouble recommending it because of the amount of trial and error involved. I look for games that can teach me something useful, and Furi taught me very little beyond dodging preemptively and delaying my parries.

Music and visuals are a clear strong point of the game, the gameplay is well thought out and the mechanics you need to master are rewarding. It will be hard then you start playing, but after a while, you get used to it. The game isn't going to ask you to learn new moves or combos, it only asks you to become a master of these tools. Though I will say that the game could have let you skip the long walks between each boss. Watching it play out the first time is fine, as it is establishing who you are fighting next and builds anticipation. But on a second and third playthrough, you just want to get to the action and there is no way of skipping it.

    Presentation wise, the game is stylish with a soundtrack that works to elevate excitement levels during the fight. While i am not super fond of the genre of music they went for, I enjoyed it for what it is and i suspect that fans of the genre will love it.

    I agree with the reviewer who said the devs failed to make you want to play/failed to make it enjoyable.

    Too bad. Fairly visually appealing.

    If you're looking for a hard and fast game to challenge you, then you might enjoy this.

    This game is hard, yes. It will not hold your hand and it won’t help you through it. But with a tantalizingly interesting story between fights and the unique strategy to each of the boss fights, Furi is an astoundingly great game. It is well worth the $20 price tag.

    Good game, nice visuals, music and definitively a challenge. The only thing I could criticize is those spaces between each boss fight were it gets kind of boring due to the lack of options of your character. You are only allowed to move. And for me, that's a huge downside, but the only one. Overall 8/10

    I really didnt expect to like it this much. But it has really amazing bossfights and the story is very good as well. Soundtrack is **** amazing. Challenging as all games should be.

    Boss rush game with good mechanics of parry. It is a short game but very enjoyable, the story is barely there but has some decent twist at the very end. Recommended if you like challanges.

    Phenomenal experience! no useless **** - clear cut of the gameplay and a nice mystery story going on on background between boss fights. However, I consider it 10/10 only if you quit game right with its final credits and don't play afterwards. I really think the game is at its best story-wise without after credit gameplay and DLC. Only if you haven't had enough of challenge - then by all means go finish it completely to open higher difficulty and more story-less dlc boss fights, but you'll kill all the beauty of the mystery story. Maybe that's why credits are rolling there, cause devs thought to finish it at this point, but couldn't decide for sure. Expand

    The game is [Challenging, Fluid, Beautiful, Reflective, Engaging, Curious]

    => Pros:
    + Extraordinary battles with unique bosses;
    + Very good story although not extremely complex;
    + Very challenging;
    + Perfect combat mechanics (being easy to learn, and difficult to master);
    + Perfect soundtrack;
    + The protagonist is memorable;
    + The ending is incredible, with the possibility of multiple endings (3);
    + Great DLC;
    + The way the game arranged the order of the bosses to contrast with the story is incredible;
    + The plot in general makes you reflect on the protagonist himself, and on his choices;
    + The scenarios are beautiful (both the battle and the paths);

    => Cons:
    - In several cut scenes the quality of the characters leaves something to be desired;
    - Some mechanics like loaded shot and charged attack are not well used, which makes them useless in most battles;
    - In the course of the story, there is a feeling of lack of the protagonist's speech, which makes himself a little superficial compared to the other characters;

    => VERDICT:
    The Verdict is that FURI is a masterpiece, which shows that a game focused only on boss fights can be good, but in his case, it is much more than that. The gameplay is very good, and each moment in the story is unique, that is, even after to reset the game, you will remember each one you went through and their particularities. Each boss has its stages, and some of them will take their dominance of mechanics to the extreme, that is, you will suffer to defeat them initially, but the story is so well developed, that the ending is rewarding, and still gives more than one possibility to the player, because the plot in addition to interesting, it's reflective. FURI breaks the taboo that bosses need to follow a pattern of progression of difficulty, surprising in this regard. Problems end up unnoticed by the player, the fights are so good, and in addition, the game rescues Bullet Hell in a different way, which gives it personality. After all, the game has a soundtrack spectacular to make you want to listen outside. It is very worthwhile to invest in this game, and help this prisoner to find freedom.

    Boss-based game. You need to defeat 10 and more bosses through different stages. The game is all about bosses and phases. There is no grinding or leveling. Every boss has different phases and some of them really hard. Difficulty of the bosses is not related to anything it is just random.     A perfect blend between great artstyle, gameplay and difficulty. The story is told in a very cryptic/minimalistic way and the characters are unique from each other. All the fights can be challenging depending on the type of player you are, which is a nice way to balance the game. Great game, go play it.

    Stylish boss rush that resembles bullet hell games at times. Despite providing a tough challenge, Furi is never cheap or unfair. Tight and very responsive controls are worth a special mention. [Sept 2016]

    Although each fight has multiple stages, they’re pretty much the same for each enemy: ranged combat, melee clash, bullet hell – and even their order mostly remains the same. For a game that revolves exclusively around boss fights, that’s quite a shortcoming. [Issue#212, p.55]
