The supernatural angle and the "lore" of this game are absolutely silly. It comes off like a bad R.L. Stine novella. The limited animations, the ridiculous creature designs and the fact that every major Lets player on the planet is cashing in on its "spook" factor is starting to smack of irrationality. Its also a very short game that the developer is making far too much money from when in all likelihood you will drop it after about an hour. Much like "Slender" and other low budget "horror" games, Five Nights at Freddy's has a very short life-expectancy in terms of legitimate enjoyment to be gained from playing it. Its unclear as to why its become such an enigma, but I'm certain its just another flavor-of-the-month in a pool of mediocrity. Expand

A good game but ruined by the fanbase, great job internet. Hopefully this fanbase goes down at some point because I am sick and tired of seeing stupid 12 year olds relating every single thing on the internet to this game. Yes its good, but its just a game, and there are scarier and way better horror games out there.

I do think that this is a scary game yes, but I really do not think that this is worth five dollars. For about an hour worth of gameplay. Only pop ups yes. Atmosphere is dull but yet sinister.

All I can say about this game is get it on sale. Only when it's on sale.

I mean, come the hell on. This game is fun for what it is, isn't priced all that badly, and is fun for the time it lasts. The jumpscares are well made, and yet...you aren't going to get much out of it if you aren't already afraid of the subject matter. Which I'm not, so...the game just feels boring because of that. Excellent sound design, good looking, yet not very much substance.

The Five Night's at Freddy's series has received an incredible amount of hate for one simple reason; the game is extremely successful, and for a very good reason. The game itself is extremely simple, not even using up half a gigabyte of data, yet it can really scare the crap out of anyone who is playing it for the first time!

Scott Cawthon gives a unique twist on the horror genre.

The game itself is extremely simple, not even using up half a gigabyte of data, yet it can really scare the crap out of anyone who is playing it for the first time!

Scott Cawthon gives a unique twist on the horror genre. Instead of wandering random, dark locations until you eventually get jump-scared, you are instead fixed inside a single room with no escape as the murderous animatronics make their way to you.

The only real down-side of the game is that it is extremely repetitive with nothing new really going on as the nights progress. The only differences are that the animatronics become more active. Beyond the first two nights, the game becomes pretty boring and agitating as your survival becomes less based on skill and more on luck and timing. This is especially true once you figure out the famous 20/20/20/20 formula on how to beat the game on any level.

There is a story in the game as to what is really going on, and you learn a little bit more as you play through the nights, yet it is very ambiguous and barely even there.

In conclusion, Five Nights at Freddy's is a simple yet fairly effective horror game that will have you jumping in your skin for quite some time. Yet by the end of the game, you're simply left empty and feeling like you just wasted your time.

I don't know whether to recommend or not recommend this game (well if I already posted this then I guess you already know, but at the time I'm making the review I haven't decided yet). The thing is that FNAF (Five Nights At Freddy's) is a game that exploded because of youtube, nothing more and nothing less. I have to confess that I WAS a FNAF fan because of the deep story, but when you putI don't know whether to recommend or not recommend this game (well if I already posted this then I guess you already know, but at the time I'm making the review I haven't decided yet). The thing is that FNAF (Five Nights At Freddy's) is a game that exploded because of youtube, nothing more and nothing less. I have to confess that I WAS a FNAF fan because of the deep story, but when you put that aside and judge the game for what it is...then we have a problem.

STORY: 2CRAZY2EXPLAIN...Ok no. FNAF's lore is way too convoluted to explain, but the basic jazz is that you're a security guard in a pizzeria that has killer robots...yeah, not the best place to be in. You have to survive 5...6...or 7 nights and at the end you'll get a paycheck...or a goodbye message that means you're fired...THANK GOD.

PRESENTATION: Since this is an indie game we can't expect much from the graphics, but FNAF does a decent job in terms of looks. You're office is basically a stretched out 2D image that looks like a cylinder when viewed up close, this is not the best option when you want you're game to be frightening, however when you're playing you barely notice. The sounds are typical horror game cliches like footsteps, weird noises, ect, but we do get to hear the animatronics everyone in a while. The game does a perfect job with the atmosphere, I can say that much, however it doesn't do as good of a job when trying to maintain it, since all of the tension goes away when you find out that all the animatronics do is just scream at you and that's it, and that only happened to me once in my entire playthrough. You know you didn't do a good job in terms of horror when someone like me (who gets scared even by Minecraft) finds the game more repetitive than scary and speaking of...

GAMEPLAY: In terms of how you play...it's very lackluster. You use the mouse for all of you're actions, to look at the cameras, to shut doors, to use the lights, etc, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I mean, plenty of horror games have even less control and they still manage to be good, but FNAF exploitable AI throws that possibility out the window. There are 4 animatronics to face (5 if you counts Golden Freddy, however that's completely random), Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Freddy. All of them do specific...explodable things that make the game very easy when you know how to use them, you wanna know how? HERE'S MY GUIDE!

Bonnie always shows up on the left, so all you have to do is turn the lights on and off and shut the door when he is there, do some flash, flash, flash until he is gone then return to the pattern.

Chica is the same as Bonnie, but she goes to the right so you'll have to do the process with that in mind.

Foxy will never leave his place if you look at him even for a split second, so all you have to do is maintain the camera on him and switch it on and off while you're also turning the lights on and off.

Freddy is the most troublesome when he leaves the stage, since he can attack you at any time...but you can avoid this by simply checking on him just as you do with Foxy and he'll never leave his place.

With this in mind, to beat the first 6 nights all you have to do is: Check the light in a pattern of Right, left, right, then check the camera and go to Foxy's, then go to Freddy's, the to Foxy's again, then pull off the camera, left right, left, camera, left right, left right, OU! There's an animatronic, shut the door, camera, left right, left right, is it still there? keep the door shut, camera, left, right, left, he's not there? open the door, left, right, left, camera. Rince and repeat and there you go you've beaten the game in only 1.1 hours like I did. The only night where this doesn't apply on is the 7th night, but I'm not gonna go over that because...holy cheese is that madness.

Though keep in mind that everything you do in the game will drain power, so you have to do this pattern very very quickly. You have a total of 100% power and depending on what you do it will go down faster or slower. Just keep that power until 6am and booya! you win...that's it.

Overall I honestly can't recommend this game. It is very easy when you know what to do and it's not very replayable. I got my copy with 50% off and honestly I believe you should too. It's not really worth it even at the price it currently is...however for Halloween this can be a fun distraction.

    I'll give it a 6/10

Five Nights at Freddy's represents itself as a horror game. I found the game fun, but not scary. You can have fun within two hours, but the game then becomes boring. However, the story saves it from a negative review.

I must say, playing Five Nights At Freddy's the very first 3 nights it's fun, it's tense and kinda scary. But later on lacks of new elements and only it's more difficult. Still enjoyable though. Good price too.

That game is f****** creepy. But apart from that, it hosts a nice lore and gameplay. It's a game that you don't stop playing while you're sh¡tting yourself. Who can imagine a horror game where you as a security guard expect to be slaughtered by wild robots in a game?

This game still relies on jump-scares however and it's a pretty lazy way to create suspense if you ask me. The last thing i wanted to say is the designs of the robots in this game are by far the best in the series and that does a lot for the fear factor. (funny enough)

    Terror 10/10

Graphics-The graphics are as i said before that of a unity flash game their not terrible but their not amazing either The graphics are highly pixelated in most parts however the animatronic design is fairly creative and well drawn

Scare factor- The game isn't scary. You may say that's my opinion well it is, But Five Night's At Freddy's relies on the cheapest factor in all horror games, JUMPSCARES! And the only jumpscare that could possibly scare you (unless your a 6-year-old hardcore gamer) Is Bonnie's the only one that has a hint of scare. The 2nd and 3rd games improve on the scare factor of the atmosphere but still the jumpscares don't get much better

Characters- There is 0 character in this game. The only real character who has any story that hasn't just been made up by fans is Phone guy (also known as Jeremy) On Night 4 dies (or that's what we believe anyway) This has spawned theories hundreds of them in fact this is basically the only character development we get a night-guard dying that's just pathetic.

Story- The story isn't too bad but it focuses on secrets rather than straight up explanation however this does make the player want to look further

Overall rating- I give at a 5 out of 10 because it is defiantly the worst Fnaf game and deserves no better

Conclusion- It isn't an insanely bad game but it needs improvement to be classed as a good game after all it started a beloved series so it deserves a 5/10

The door mechanic to protect yourself form the animatronic characters is good, but it drains powers(Whihc is kind of stupid in my opinion.)

[Please read the full review before immediately disliking this because you disagree with the rating, this is my opinion; you can have yours while I can have mine]

While the idea behind it is clever and well put-together, FNF fails to deliver in many fields. First of all, if you don't like jumpscares and want a lasting scare that messes with your head, look elsewhere. In fact, look on the other side of the world, as far away from FNF you can get, because jumpscares is what FNF is entirely based around. I realize there is a lot of love for this game and this will probably get disliked to hell, but this is my opinion of the game, and I've played through over 100 games, and I've tried hundreds more, and the horror genre is my all-time favorite for movies, games, books, anything. So take it from me when I say this is not a horror game you want to play if you enjoy the genre.

You sit in a small room the entire game (not even a 3D one, it's just a panorama), and the only scare that are offered are inevitability and jumpscares. The main scare you'll experience is something popping up with a scary sound. If you think that's horror, then by all means go ahead and play FNF. If you think that's a bad way to get some cheap, short-lasting scares (like me), then stay away from FNF.

The graphics are decent, but look very aged. Graphics aren't that much of a problem for me though so that's fine, the gameplay is what I have a problem with the most. It basically consists of you clicking buttons over and over again, spam clicking and then jumping out of your chair when a cheap jumpscare occurs. It's a clickfest, and you can't explore or do anything else. There is basically no animation as well, most things are just pictures copy and pasted into the game, there are like three occurrences where you actually experience animation, and it's poorly done.

The difficulty is also unnecessarily hard, though very difficult games seem to captivate many people, so while they're not for me, I don't knock FNF for being difficult. The difficulty curve, however, is what I think could've been done much better. The first level is basically a piece of cake; an intro, and you'd think the second would be difficult but still playable. Well if you don't study patterns and practice the first level a good amount, you probably won't get past the second your first time around, or even your second or third. And once you do, the difficulty spikes so heavily after that that you probably won't get past the third before you get bored and throw the game back on the dusty shelf in the back of your closet.

That's another problem, the game is difficult so a new player will have to restart a lot, but the game is just too dull and repetitive to play through again, even if you only have to repeat the last two levels. Maybe it's just me, but I'm baffled as to how this game was rated so high, especially by critics. Maybe because it thinks outside of the box, and I will definitely give it that; it's a good idea and it's very simple, and provides a lot of scares-albeit cheap ones. But aside from that it's very dull and the scares don't last, jumpscares just raise your heartbeat for a short time, and then you forget about it ten minutes later. Games that mess with your head and have you on edge for hours after it's done are what I look for, and if you consider yourself a fan of the horror genre as well, I would hope you also agree.

All in all, Five Nights at Freddy's is a good idea, it's creepy, it has a constant inevitability and foreboding feel to it, it provides jumpscares, and that's about it. If you're looking for a low-budget flash game that makes you jump out of your chair but that's also very forgettable and dull, grab FNF. The price tag of $4.99 isn't too bad, though personally I would never buy it for that (I got it on sale just to try it because I was curious as to why everyone was talking about it). All of FNF's fans say it's an amazing game simply because they're favorite YouTube let's players played it. If you actually saw how much time these "fans" put into FNF, while many haven't even played it, most of them will have an hour or two, because it's just too dull to play more than that. I have multiple friends that worship this game simply because they saw someone make funny faces at it on YouTube, they say it's an amazing game yet I look on their Steam accounts and they've played less than an hour.

Don't be fooled, this is a fad more than a game, and if you're looking for a quality horror experience do not waste money here. Get Amnesia, Penumbra, The Cat Lady, Outlast, Scratches, or even Anna, just to name a few better alternatives.

Interesting concept, but lacks the fun. It's an ok game for an 1 or 2 hours. Probably would make a better demo than a full game. Still enjoyable and if you don't mind spending the few bucks, it's a pretty decent cheap horror. I guess with all the hype I've been hearing of it, I was expecting more.

If I'd have to compare this game to another one, I'd say it's very similar to Scary Maze. It keeps your focus down on one small point, then throws an enormous screaming thing in your face. It's beyond cheap. True, true, it's scary but after a little while your heart will jump a bit, then disregard the whole thing with an "Ahh f**k you!"

It's beyond cheap. True, true, it's scary but after a little while your heart will jump a bit, then disregard the whole thing with an "Ahh f**k you!"

It has little replayabity, mostly because the game has very little to offer, you won't really use the "Custom Night" feature much other than the infamous 20/20/20/20 (or maybe putting Foxy on 20, the rest on 1).

However, what I found the biggest problem here is the complete lack of immersion, simply because the game is about you sitting in one place for basically no reason, without any way you'd at least try to defend yourself other than shutting/opening the doors, again, for no reason.

On the upside, the characters are unique and frightening (for that rough two seconds they clatter their teeth five centimeters in front of you), each having different characteristics and tactics, so it's easy to pick a favourite, or one that you despise. It's gameplay mechanisms are clear and are easy to understand, as well as easy enough for new game developers to see the "board game" behind the curtains of the sprites that you're looking at while playing.

Overall, it's a fair little game of resource management, however, it's horror aspect is based on pretty much only flashy, noisy, and after time, annoying jumpscares, which, while sometimes can be good, shouldn't be overdosed in horror games. Adding the nonsensical elements mentioned above also axes from much of the score.

If you are a fan of jumpscares (for some weird reason), this game is just for you. If you want quality horror that really sends chills down your spine, I suggest saving your money.
Still, for 5$, it's not a bad deal.

Cons: it can only be scary for about 15 minutes they I got really bored. The story in this game sucks so bad that it ruined the game for me.

It's an interesting idea that falls pretty flat and gets very boring, with super limited game play fairly soon. The game is so short simply because there isn't enough content to expand upon.

It also feels incredibly cliche as far as survival horror games goes, it's just another indie developer jumping on the survival horror train, throwing something together and cashing in on STEAM. Honestly I feel STEAM greenlight has done more bad then good for the game industry.

Anyways, the game is plagued by limited game play, short play times and awful graphics. If you were going to do something like this, at the very least you could do a better job with the graphics.

It's not even worth the $5.00 cost for admission. Maybe if you got it in the humble bundle, for a dollar with multiple other games included.

Now don't get me wrong, this game is not abysmal, it does not stand on the same ground as Sonic '06 and Hatred. The game is boring after a few times playing, regardless of whether or not you survived all 5 nights, and its gameplay (or lack thereof) is garbage. Nonetheless, this horror game accomplishes more without movement than The Evil Within or Slender do with movement.

Oh bring Satan upon me I'm criticising one of the most popular horror games of 2014/2015! Now please hear me out!

I think that in both video games and movies the horror genre is basically on life support and the only thing that horror games have left is that they hope that a youtuber does a let's play of them o their let's play channel. I find it quite hard to find a horror game that has been released within the last 5 years that I can actually say were great horror games. These games being: Alan Wake, Amnesia: the dark descent, Outlast, Alien: Isolation and the evil within. That isn't a lot compared to there being like 500 horror games made in 5 years. Tons of my friends were talking about this game saying it's horror game of the year and I personally don't see why this is supposed to be scary. I just say to them "Alien: Isolation came out the same year"

Five nights at Freddy's is a horror game (In case u hadn't figured that out already) where a whole lot of nothing happens. Well I mean stuff does happen and that stuff that happens is waiting. Remember those old jump scares that your friends used to send you in an email? Scott Cawthon did and decided to make a game based off of them. In those images you were just waiting for something to pop up and that's exactly what u do in FNAF. Your main goal is to keep an eye on the cameras in order to monitor where all 4 animatronics are at and when they get close to the door u shut it but u can't keep it shut for too long otherwise you will run out of power. Rinse and repeat. It isn't exactly the sort of pressure that should be in a horror game. I wait everyday in my life. I could literally recreate FNAF. I could wait in a waiting room then randomly my friend would say "boo" to me and that's basically. It also takes possibly the laziest and most cliché way of how to scare the gamers, it uses a jump scare. These are scary for like maybe the first 5-10 mins of the game but then the more I got these, the more I just got annoyed at the game and it really took away from any sort of horror elements I thought the game had at the time.

There isn't really much story in the game itself, but the fan theories have tried to form some sort of story about a bite that happened in 87 by one of the animatronics but this story isn't exactly shown in the game, the fans were the ones that created the story and Scott must have just been like "Yeah that's a good story, I'll put it as a main plot element in the sequel." I would like to clarify that I don't have anything against Scott. He's an impressive indie developer and I'm sure he's a really nice guy.But like I said I'm just not a big fan of this game or it's "story"

The graphics are to put it one way nostalgic. It isn't anything revolutionary but it brings back memories of the games I used to play on the windows 98, old detective games where I needed to scroll across the screen to find things in the scenery. The animations on the animatronics are also very good especially for an indie game. The sound is a mixed bag. Most of the sound is good but sometimes I hear sounds that I wouldn't exactly expect to hear in a pizzeria. For example u can sometimes hear one of the animatronics laugh. If they laugh that demoniacally y haven't any of the parents or their kids in the morning realised this and fear them. Y just at night? But that really is just nit-picking.

I was personally bored of FNAF quite quickly and I didn't really want to touch it again after I beat 20/20/20/20 mode and I haven't touched it since. I personally didn't find any replay value in it which is why I haven't picked up the sequels either. But maybe u could find some reason to play through FNAF a second time. Throughout my whole playtime I had to press forward because I wanted to do everything I could, to analyse everything in FNAF in order to write this review and I was bored every second and the jump scares didn't alleviate that. I was just frustrated with them as it meant I needed to restart the night and waste more of my time.

FNAF personally isn't for me but I can see why so many people like it. If u like FNAF that's fine I'm not going to judge u, I'm not going to judge Scott, I'm not going to address anybody. This game just isn't for me.

I was curious what was the game about since it has such a huge fanbase and it has so many theories, it got me intrigued, I'm sorry but I thought that this game was terrible.

So the story was actually interesting at first and I was curious to continue, but as the game continued, I discovered that the story was really underdevelloped, it looses its charm really quickly and becomes just really stupid, people say the sequels have a more develloped story but in my opinion they just become more and more stupid, so yeah the story wasn't good in my opinion.

And the "gameplay"...So the gameplay works like this, you check security cameras to make sure that the furies... I mean monsters don't kill you, when they get too close you have to press a button to shut a door which will stop the monster from catching you.

You know, I complained about games being walking simulators (outlast, dear Esther ect...) but this is the worst way of doing a game, walking simulators are competent next to this, at least you actually do something. Here the gameplay is just pushing buttons to not die, literally, you don't walk, there's no exploring and it takes away all kind of tension.
There is no excuse for this, I can respect it for trying something different but this was a horrible choice for making a game, it's not fun, there is no variety, it's just a bland point n click with no depth.
People say it's scary but like I said, there's no tension so when a jumpscare happened, I didn't feel anything or cared at all.
A lot of people said this game was good because of the theories, but that only proves to me that people enjoy the theories more than the game itself, which is never a good sign.

I really can't recommend this game, it's too linear to have any kind of replay value, it's too boring because the gameplay has nothing interesting and no depth, the story was interesting at first but became a stupid story and made little to no sense.
I'm sorry but this game in my eyes is just horrible, you can enjoy this game because everyone is allowed to have a different opinion but I really despised this game and if more horror games try to do the same thing as this game, I want no part in it.

Another thing that kinda ticks me off is the wasted potential. Hell when I saw this game I was expecting to actually explore the restaurant you know as an actual security guard doing his rounds. But all I got was one room that I was forced to not leave and just watch the monitors. Granted I've played games that used such a mechanic really well such as nighttrap, but in this game it kinda gets old fast.

The Five Night's At Freddy is horrible indie, horror cash grab game. There is no interesting and creepiness after hours experience on this game. I don't reccomend buying it unless it is free or at least one dollar on humble.

Let me say that I am being completely honest and unbiased. Five Night's at Freddy's is hot garbage, that is ugly, boring, bland, with cheap jumpscares and an extremely convoluted "plot". Boring and you will not get your money's worth.

Over 5 years has passed, and this game didn't becamed a classic. I know about a terrible fandom, but in this review I say only about a game itself.
First, this horror game is nothing but a casual clicker game, that better suits for mobile phones. The gameplay of this game is very boring. Second, this game is not so scary. It's just a compilation of cheap jumpscares. I never scared of this

Also, this game had a terrible plot. In other words, this game never had a plot. Only hints of the "deep" plot. Why Scott Cowton didn't wrote a plot. Because of business. If you have a terrible fanbase with 12-year old theorists, you will get a lot of money.

This game is **** People say it's good; it's not. The entirety of its "scariness" comes from jump scares. It has almost no gameplay. Props to the developer for making people think it's good.

You want an overrated strategy game disguised as a game in the "horror" genre? That even comes with it's own character death cliche? You found the right game for you.

Disappointing. The idea was great, concept is very original, but this game is very cheap. You just sit and look at cameras. It had good atmosphere for first 5 minutes, then you just know everything about this game. It's very boring. It was supposed to be scary, but it's not. There are only jumpscares. Very cheap jumpscares. Good horror game should have plot. This game doesn't have it. MostDisappointing. The idea was great, concept is very original, but this game is very cheap. Do not believe them. They rely on theories, easter eggs and hidden messages. These are just bonuses. This game doesn't have any in-game proceeding plot, only backstory. You works as guard in pizzeria and some guy tells you that animatronics like to move at night so it's not safe. That's all. If you are new to horror genre you may like it, but if you like good horror games like Silent Hill don't play this game, you will be disappointed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not scary at all and garbage. The game abuses a mechanic like jump scares and makes it not scary. And you can't move making it stupid as hell. Oh and beware of spoilers. You are a night guard working a pizzeria that has to be there for 5 nights. Stupid I hate this franchise so much it shouldn't even exist overall 110. Expand

the gameplay is nothing but a complete borefest, you litteraly just sit there for nearly ten miutes (or less) each night, this game never catches my eye to how boring it is and the story (atleast the entire franchise) is also a convoluted mess, it never tells a well made story, (like everone says) instead it brings up one of the

Fnaf is just one of those games that I don't understand how it's taken seriously. It's like the cheapest dollar store jumpscares that are so non-scary I genuinely laugh when it happens because it's so god damn funny. Somehow this game spawned an incredibly complex lore and is considered a classic masterpiece now. Just watch Markiplier play the series, far more entertaining.

This is not horror game. This is like some child story or some game you give your 2 old children to play. You cant be scared even if you try to. You just cant.

FNAF is by FAR the WORST game I have ever played. It has a stupid cliche story, terrible graphics, and the worst gameplay in ANY video game EVER. The only reason people play this game is because they see stupid youtubers play it and scream like little kids.

This game absolutely fails as a horror game. Using repetitive jumpscares, the game just isn't scary after the first few times. This is a horrible excuse for horror, meant for youtubers, so they can overreact and get views.

This crowdpandering garbage is the textbook example of lazy horror. Every single image that the game considers 'disturbing' is mindless jumpsacares that wouldn't even frighten a 10 year old after the first one.

For its time, this game is one of the scariest games of all time. The story is complex and well written, the presentation is flat, but that what makes it so great for the game's spirit. This is one of the greatest horror games of all time, and I say that you MUST play it. I cannot recommend this enough.

This game is daylight robbery. There is literally like 5 controls. All you do is close doors ps. hotel Mario did it before and that game is literally the same as being hit by a broomstick. Only eight year old's would find this scary since all it is is dark. Why do people like this it would take five minutes to take and the fandom is super weird

Five Nights at Freddy’s presents an interesting concept to the player, and tries a different approach to the genre other than the usual asylum, graveyard and ghost town. Even the gameplay has something to say, but after the first minutes, once understood the mechanism, is hard to find a real interest in continuing playing.

Five Nights at Freddy's, even without both the third dimension and high production values in general, is really scary. It is a little horror game which will scare you with both its original idea and its implementation, proving there may be always a new approach in any genre.
