For a normal novice horror player, this game will feature a very spooky atmosphere and quite a few legit scares. And some management puzzles as well! But I have to say this as a seasoned horror game veteran, this game is not as scary for me. The chilly ambient atmosphere that the game creates is quite good, but the horror itself relies way too heavily on jumpscares, and for me that is just annoying. The power management puzzle is pretty neat though, a nice new spin on the horror genre as surviving the nights is completely up to your use of energy. Also I'm not the one to ask questions about logic in video games, but electricity powered doors which close if you run out of electricity. Really? Couldn't come up with something that makes a bit more sense? Oh well, that's just nitpicking.

On the technical side, the version 1.0 that I played is just a joke. No basic audio settings, can't change resolution, brightness, gamma. Nothing. It was just frustrating in that regard.

In general, the game would be pretty scary for a casual horror novice, but for me personally it wasn't all that scary, and quite annoying at times.

I'll start with the negatives: The game is only about 1-2 hours, and 3 if you have a bit more fun with it. The backstory seems generic when you piece it all together. The scares do die down after the first few nights, and it can slide to more of the annoying side. The game is WAY overhyped, in my opinion. It isn't scariest-game-of-all-time, but it does satisfy at some points. The locationI'll start with the negatives: The game is only about 1-2 hours, and 3 if you have a bit more fun with it. It isn't scariest-game-of-all-time, but it does satisfy at some points. The location even seems a bit generic.

The Positives: The gameplay is something that isn't seen much. You can't move. You only have three actions: shut the doors, turn on the lights, and check the camera. It's blended together to create a well placed im-gonna-die feeling. The game may sound simple, and it is, but it also presents a challenge that I oddly haven't really experienced in other games. The game is difficult, and if you screw up on later nights just a little, then you can officially say you're dead. The story, also generic, presents itself in a way that makes it vague and makes you want to piece it all together. Once you do, there is room for even more thoughts and speculation.

Other comments: No. This game isn't 100% scary. The animatronics and the setting won't scare you. It may make you feel uncomfortable, but that's even only for a little bit. The scares come from the fact that you can't move, and you can only do a few functions. That kicks in survival mode for people. You don't want to get caught, and that's where the scares are. You won't be able to fight back. But again, the scares can be short lived.

Is the game worth $5? Yes. This isn't a must-have game, but if you have the cash, I would recommend looking at this game. It's really fun, but just know that this game will only last for a few hours.

Then why does it have a 7? Well, it's painfully generic with the story. I looked at it and even found myself saying "Really?" It's an entertaining game, and this is a great start to a series.

At first I thought this game would be another really lame horror game that would fail to tug at my fears of animatronics and horrid clown makeup. But this one is slightly different - actually it's so unique and yet so simple, but it is quite a fright. "Five Nights at Freddy's" is nothing more than a "horror situation/survival simulator", and I do not mean that lightly: the game literally leaves you alone in a surveillance office as you - the night guard - watch over a pizza parlor full of animatronics that literally want to kill you. And let me be clear, these are not animatronics by definition but instead are "automotons". They will move and try to find you. Unfortunately for you, there is no leaving the office or moving all that much; you control security cameras and the 2 doors that lead to the office, all of which drains the little energy you absolutely need to run the shift rather quickly.

I give "Five Nights at Freddy's" a 7 out of 10 simply because this is a game review and I will not lie, the game is not all that amazing. And as fun as it is (and rather boring to some extent, with no replay-ability), it fits the genre well! For horror game enthusiasts, gamers who want a scare, and those of you who share a fear of animatronics with me, buy Five Nights at Freddy's!

Good Indie game but to be honest it isn't as innovative or scary as people say it is. Watching camera's, limited power, creepy non moving characters... yeah we've seen that in almost every horror game. Still a good game that you should check out though.

Hopefully this fanbase goes down at some point because I am sick and tired of seeing stupid 12 year olds relating every single thing on the internet to this game. The limited animations, the ridiculous creature designs and the fact that every major Lets player on the planet is cashing in on its "spook" factor is starting to smack of irrationality. Its also a very short game that the developer is making far too much money from when in all likelihood you will drop it after about an hour. Much like "Slender" and other low budget "horror" games, Five Nights at Freddy's has a very short life-expectancy in terms of legitimate enjoyment to be gained from playing it. Graphics-The graphics are as i said before that of a unity flash game their not terrible but their not amazing either The graphics are highly pixelated in most parts however the animatronic design is fairly creative and well drawn

Scare factor- The game isn't scary. You may say that's my opinion well it is, But Five Night's At Freddy's relies on the cheapest factor in all horror games, JUMPSCARES! And the only jumpscare that could possibly scare you (unless your a 6-year-old hardcore gamer) Is Bonnie's the only one that has a hint of scare. The 2nd and 3rd games improve on the scare factor of the atmosphere but still the jumpscares don't get much better

Characters- There is 0 character in this game. The only real character who has any story that hasn't just been made up by fans is Phone guy (also known as Jeremy) On Night 4 dies (or that's what we believe anyway) This has spawned theories hundreds of them in fact this is basically the only character development we get a night-guard dying that's just pathetic.

Story- The story isn't too bad but it focuses on secrets rather than straight up explanation however this does make the player want to look further

Overall rating- I give at a 5 out of 10 because it is defiantly the worst Fnaf game and deserves no better

Conclusion- It isn't an insanely bad game but it needs improvement to be classed as a good game after all it started a beloved series so it deserves a 5/10

The premise is genius, and the undercooked gameplay mechanic is unique enough to overshadow the lack of sophistication. The premise is genius, and the undercooked gameplay mechanic is unique enough to overshadow the lack of sophistication. This game would have earned a 10 from me, if not for the following problem... one which I'm betting most fans have also noticed but forgiven...

The hows and whys of the murderous animatronics are actually very well fleshed out—the plot could have easily just been "kill-bots are coming for you, because HORROR," but instead there's a satisfying effort to explain a) why these things roam around, and b) why your life is in danger.

The problem is, the established logic doesn't lend itself to the way the actual jumpscares play out. It's as if the creator's real goal was to maximize the jump factor at the expense of making the scares consistent with the story. Early on, you learn that the animatronics are just slaves to their programming, and will treat you like a disembodied robo-skeleton rather than a human, trying to fix you by shoving you into a suit (one which has no spare room for a human body.) How creepy is that?? The thing is, when one of them does reach you, the result is nothing more than a shrieking, flailing "booga booga" moment and a game over screen. Is it an effective jumpscare? Hell yes, but it's not at all what you'd expect from a plodding robo-dummy that's supposed to be dragging you away and sticking you where you don't belong.

The plot generates an unparalleled sense of dread, the over-the-top jumpscares are suitably diaper-worthy, but there's this conceptual disconnect between the two that makes the latter feel cheap and forced... and part of me feels cheated. With some more toned down, better-fitting scares (e.g. you drop the cam screen and Chica is standing silently two feet from you..... still scary without being exhausting) this could have been the greatest horror game ever made.

I'm actually a bit depressed that we'll never get a game like that, now that FNAF has the surveillance horror mechanic so closely entwined with party-style jumpscares.

When you get past with all the flash scares and just out of the creepy immersion. Your left with a simple point and click defense game against a random set of events. If the game could have evolved some better game-play, or introduce new events to cause panic to the player as the days progressed. All and all, for its value and for the flash scares... a 7.

If you don't do it right, there are consequences... That's one of the problems i had with Slenderman. You were literally wandering through a forest trying to find PAPER!... It didn't make you feel like you had a connection with the character at all. In Five Night's At Freddy's, you're scared for yourself, and your character. You also have to take into account that this game was made by ONE GUY! ONE... GUY... The jumpscares are well made, and yet...you aren't going to get much out of it if you aren't already afraid of the subject matter. Which I'm not, so...the game just feels boring because of that. Excellent sound design, good looking, yet not very much substance.

The Five Night's at Freddy's series has received an incredible amount of hate for one simple reason; the game is extremely successful, and for a very good reason. The game itself is extremely simple, not even using up half a gigabyte of data, yet it can really scare the crap out of anyone who is playing it for the first time!

Scott Cawthon gives a unique twist on the horror genre.

Scott Cawthon gives a unique twist on the horror genre. Instead of wandering random, dark locations until you eventually get jump-scared, you are instead fixed inside a single room with no escape as the murderous animatronics make their way to you.

The only real down-side of the game is that it is extremely repetitive with nothing new really going on as the nights progress. The only differences are that the animatronics become more active. Beyond the first two nights, the game becomes pretty boring and agitating as your survival becomes less based on skill and more on luck and timing. This is especially true once you figure out the famous 20/20/20/20 formula on how to beat the game on any level.

There is a story in the game as to what is really going on, and you learn a little bit more as you play through the nights, yet it is very ambiguous and barely even there.

In conclusion, Five Nights at Freddy's is a simple yet fairly effective horror game that will have you jumping in your skin for quite some time. Yet by the end of the game, you're simply left empty and feeling like you just wasted your time.

The thing is that FNAF (Five Nights At Freddy's) is a game that exploded because of youtube, nothing more and nothing less. The thing is that FNAF (Five Nights At Freddy's) is a game that exploded because of youtube, nothing more and nothing less. I have to confess that I WAS a FNAF fan because of the deep story, but when you put that aside and judge the game for what it is...then we have a problem.

STORY: 2CRAZY2EXPLAIN...Ok no. FNAF's lore is way too convoluted to explain, but the basic jazz is that you're a security guard in a pizzeria that has killer robots...yeah, not the best place to be in. You have to survive 5...6...or 7 nights and at the end you'll get a paycheck...or a goodbye message that means you're fired...THANK GOD.

PRESENTATION: Since this is an indie game we can't expect much from the graphics, but FNAF does a decent job in terms of looks. You're office is basically a stretched out 2D image that looks like a cylinder when viewed up close, this is not the best option when you want you're game to be frightening, however when you're playing you barely notice. The sounds are typical horror game cliches like footsteps, weird noises, ect, but we do get to hear the animatronics everyone in a while. The game does a perfect job with the atmosphere, I can say that much, however it doesn't do as good of a job when trying to maintain it, since all of the tension goes away when you find out that all the animatronics do is just scream at you and that's it, and that only happened to me once in my entire playthrough. You know you didn't do a good job in terms of horror when someone like me (who gets scared even by Minecraft) finds the game more repetitive than scary and speaking of...

GAMEPLAY: In terms of how you play...it's very lackluster. You use the mouse for all of you're actions, to look at the cameras, to shut doors, to use the lights, etc, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I mean, plenty of horror games have even less control and they still manage to be good, but FNAF exploitable AI throws that possibility out the window. There are 4 animatronics to face (5 if you counts Golden Freddy, however that's completely random), Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Freddy. All of them do specific...explodable things that make the game very easy when you know how to use them, you wanna know how? HERE'S MY GUIDE!

Bonnie always shows up on the left, so all you have to do is turn the lights on and off and shut the door when he is there, do some flash, flash, flash until he is gone then return to the pattern.

Chica is the same as Bonnie, but she goes to the right so you'll have to do the process with that in mind.

Foxy will never leave his place if you look at him even for a split second, so all you have to do is maintain the camera on him and switch it on and off while you're also turning the lights on and off.

Freddy is the most troublesome when he leaves the stage, since he can attack you at any time...but you can avoid this by simply checking on him just as you do with Foxy and he'll never leave his place.

With this in mind, to beat the first 6 nights all you have to do is: Check the light in a pattern of Right, left, right, then check the camera and go to Foxy's, then go to Freddy's, the to Foxy's again, then pull off the camera, left right, left, camera, left right, left right, OU! There's an animatronic, shut the door, camera, left right, left right, is it still there? keep the door shut, camera, left, right, left, he's not there? open the door, left, right, left, camera. Rince and repeat and there you go you've beaten the game in only 1.1 hours like I did. The only night where this doesn't apply on is the 7th night, but I'm not gonna go over that because...holy cheese is that madness.

Though keep in mind that everything you do in the game will drain power, so you have to do this pattern very very quickly. You have a total of 100% power and depending on what you do it will go down faster or slower. Just keep that power until 6am and booya! you win...that's it.

Overall I honestly can't recommend this game. It is very easy when you know what to do and it's not very replayable. I got my copy with 50% off and honestly I believe you should too. It's not really worth it even at the price it currently is...however for Halloween this can be a fun distraction.

    I'll give it a 6/10

I've beaten Dead Space, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, FEAR, Cry of Fear, and Silent Hills 2 and 3, so I think I'm a pretty manly man as far being all brave and manly goes, no really, shut up. Entertaining as hell to watch other people play, though, that's for sure. Expand

Boring, boring, boring. I just found this boring. It looks nice enough, and isn't fundamentally broken, but if your not getting your ass kicked, this game is boring. If you're into Resident Evil or Silent Hill, this is possibly for you. BUT BE WARNED: if you play this you're either A) getting knocked around like a pinball on speed, B) getting bored, or C) both.

Forced to watch those cameras to find the right time to turn on lights and shut doors. You're only given a limited amount of power and the lack of options puts you on edge. It's really well crafted... but that doesn't make a good game. It's a great concept that fails as an actual video game because once you're over that initial fear of the Jump Scares. It's just a boring experience that makes me long for an actual gaming experience.

I must say, playing Five Nights At Freddy's the very first 3 nights it's fun, it's tense and kinda scary. But later on lacks of new elements and only it's more difficult. Still enjoyable though. Good price too.

After a while, the player will figure out the audio cues, but at the cost of dying several times to unexplained mechanics. This is solved in the later games with text showing you what to do and the phone guy being more helpful. But even after you figure the audio cues, the game is still ferociously hard. I came to get scared, not to rage! It becomes even more vile when you realize you're doing the same horsecrap again and again! But, whatever, you've finished the five nights. The game is over- NOPE. We have a sixth night. WHAT FOR?? You do the same repetitive stuff again and again, until that's over with. After all the negative things, there are positive things to say about Five Nights at Freddy's. The horror elements are extremely subtle (excluding the jumpscares) and the custom nights were surprisingly fun. The lore is also a fun touch. 5/10. Expand

Five Nights at Freddy's is one of the scariest and best horror games out there. This game is also pretty challenging in its own, unique way.

The goal of this game is to get through the night. You do this five times, well technically seven due to night 6 and custom night, and overtime the animatronics become more hostile. You have to check cameras to see where the animatronics are, but you shouldn't use it too much, or else the power will decrease faster. You keep the animatronics away when they are right at your security door by closing it until they leave.

This game is a very unique one, but it has limited replayability, and is pretty simple for a horror game. It can also get boring quite easily, but despite that, it's worth the five bucks. So if possible, definitely pick this up if you're into horror games, and maybe pick up FNaF 2 (the most challenging imo) and FNaF: SL (Sister Location) as well, as they are one of the best in the franchise. Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator is also a fun game, and it's F2P as well, so you can try it right now.

Although innovative. This game loses many points for its extreme difficulty, lack of a decent tutorial and lack of features worthy of a "good" game as people pretend. However I praised the atmosphere, the graphics and the music.

I would say that it is fascinating game for the time it was relized.Original and interesting gameplay that provides you some sort of challenge.
Confusing and hardly plot, but magnificient plot with all the secrets like Bite 1987, Gold Freddy and so on.
Really horrifying saspense throught all the nights and because of their difficulties, your lack of energy, animatronics scary noises,

That game is f****** creepy. But apart from that, it hosts a nice lore and gameplay. It's a game that you don't stop playing while you're sh¡tting yourself. Who can imagine a horror game where you as a security guard expect to be slaughtered by wild robots in a game?

This game still relies on jump-scares however and it's a pretty lazy way to create suspense if you ask me. The last thing i wanted to say is the designs of the robots in this game are by far the best in the series and that does a lot for the fear factor. (funny enough)

Five Nights at Freddy's, developed by Scott Cawthon, has become a sensation in the gaming world, known for its intense jump scares and chilling atmosphere. While it undeniably offers a nerve-wracking experience that keeps players on the edge of their seats, there are some areas where the gameFive Nights at Freddy's, developed by Scott Cawthon, has become a sensation in the gaming world, known for its intense jump scares and chilling atmosphere. This indie horror game has amassed a dedicated following and has become a staple in the genre. While it undeniably offers a nerve-wracking experience that keeps players on the edge of their seats, there are some areas where the game falls short, preventing it from reaching its full potential. In this review, we'll delve into the game's strengths, weaknesses, and overall impact on the horror gaming landscape.

One of the standout features of Five Nights at Freddy's is its ability to create an atmosphere of dread and tension. From the moment you enter the dimly lit security office, the game establishes a sense of claustrophobia and impending doom. The flickering lights, the ominous ambience, and the unsettling animatronic characters lurking in the shadows all contribute to an eerie and foreboding environment. The tension builds up gradually as you desperately try to survive the night, anxiously monitoring the animatronics' movements through the security cameras.

The gameplay mechanics in Five Nights at Freddy's are relatively straightforward but effective. As a security guard, your primary objective is to survive five consecutive nights while keeping an eye on the animatronics, which come to life during the night. You must carefully manage your limited resources, such as power for lights and doors, to ward off the animatronics and avoid a gruesome fate. Balancing your actions and conserving power becomes crucial as each night progresses, adding a layer of strategy to the gameplay.

However, some players may find the repetitive nature of the gameplay frustrating. Each night follows a similar pattern, requiring you to monitor the cameras and react accordingly to survive until 6 AM. While the initial nights offer a thrilling experience filled with tension and jump scares, the gameplay loop can become monotonous and predictable over time. More varied challenges or additional gameplay elements could have provided a refreshing break from the repetition and added depth to the overall experience.

Five Nights at Freddy's effectively utilizes its visual and audio design to enhance the horror experience. The animatronic characters, with their uncanny appearances and unsettling movements, create a feeling of unease and discomfort. The low-resolution graphics add to the game's charm, reminiscent of classic horror titles. The audio design plays a significant role in building tension, with ambient sounds and the animatronics' distinct noises contributing to the overall atmosphere. The creaking footsteps and the menacing laughter of Freddy Fazbear himself are sure to send shivers down your spine.

While Five Nights at Freddy's introduces an intriguing and mysterious plot, the game's storytelling falls short in terms of execution and integration. The narrative is mainly conveyed through newspaper clippings, phone messages, and hidden easter eggs, which can be challenging to discover without external sources. This reliance on external material for a complete understanding of the story creates a disjointed experience within the game itself. While the fragmented storytelling approach may appeal to some players who enjoy piecing together the lore, a more coherent narrative integration within the game would have improved the overall engagement and immersion.

Despite its flaws, Five Nights at Freddy's has had a significant impact on the horror gaming landscape. It has captivated players with its intense jump scares, unique premise, and iconic animatronic characters. The game's success has spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, and a dedicated fan base, solidifying its status as a genre-defining title. Five Nights at Freddy's has inspired a wave of similar horror games, further emphasizing its influence and cultural significance.

Five Nights at Freddy's delivers a tense and iconic horror experience that has left a lasting mark on the gaming industry. Its ability to create an atmosphere of dread and its memorable jump scares have garnered it a dedicated following. However, the game falls short in terms of gameplay variety, interactivity, and narrative integration. While the repetitive gameplay loop and reliance on external material may deter some players, those who appreciate the game's strengths and iconic status will find a chilling and intense adventure in Five Nights at Freddy's.

    Terror 10/10

Five Nights at Freddy’s presents an interesting concept to the player, and tries a different approach to the genre other than the usual asylum, graveyard and ghost town. Even the gameplay has something to say, but after the first minutes, once understood the mechanism, is hard to find a real interest in continuing playing.

Five Nights at Freddy's, even without both the third dimension and high production values in general, is really scary. It is a little horror game which will scare you with both its original idea and its implementation, proving there may be always a new approach in any genre.
