The game is a technical marvel imo, the light effects, the animations, the weather, the impressive summons... Everything looks amazing and seems really nice ported to me, although I didn’t play the original in console. I’m sure it’s not flawless, but I don’t think you will complain of this aspect.

Setting: the world is as big and beautiful as it is wasted and lifeless. This is not a map worth exploring and most of what you see is simply a decorative element oriented to make your car travels more pleasant. Yes, there are some dungeons here and there, and yes, there are some boss-like monsters to kill, but even with those, the whole thing was just not worth the time for me. My advice: just focus on the main story and if you happen to stumble with one of those funny elements in your way, by all means enjoy. The side quests are no better and seem to be taken from a mmorpg (go here and kill these bugs or collect these objects), lacking any narrative to them, and so I had to pretend they didn’t exist and totaly ignored them from chapter 3 onwards, really. To compensate (a little bit) for this lackluster boring world, the enligsh dubbing was really good and the FF-style music didn’t disappoint.

Gameplay: likely the best about the game is its combat system which never gets boring and slowly grows more technical and flashy, just at the right peace, if only I’ve always felt everything was a little too easy, despite playing in the maximum difficulty. Sadly, the combat is the only outstanding element of the whole (game)play. Once you finish a battle, things get boring pretty fast and they can be summarized in auto-driving the car, often going over and over to places you have already been, with nothing to do in between this drives, in a world that is so full of barriers (both invisible and physical) that makes you wonder if you can really call it “open world” to begin with.

Story: now, if the world is not well thought out, the story is even less, which you can imagine is quite a disappointment, knowing that the Final Fantasy franchise is known for its amazing narratives. How to explain. The adventure looks good in the surface and promising at the start (yes, so did the map) and there are some flashy moments here and there that caught my attention, but once you step back a little and ponder, you realize the whole thing is just too shallow (again, like the world), the storyline never gets to take off and honestly, it barely holds together, constantly resorting to far-fetched plot devices to move itself forward, often initiating or ending events without explanation (or with really unconvincing ones) instead of coherently chaining them with elegance just as a Final Fantasy should. Regarding the characters, including the protagonist and his friends, it is sufficient to say that they are surrounded by such an air of frivolousness that it made me difficult, almost impossible, to connect with them emotionally, despite the tons and tons of camera time they get. Things get more climatic in the very last chapter, but one chapter alone can not make up for 40 hours of inconsistencies.

So, how good it is? Well, as a game: an ok experience. As a Final Fantasy? Certainly lackluster. 7.5/10

If you master the character at lvl 1 you can expect pretty much more of the same as you progress (there is some progression but not enough variety).

Other things I really don't like: only 4 characters (all emo looking douchebags IMO) and absolutely no hard mode. I'm not sure why any RPG or action game would ship out without some sort of difficulty mode besides normal and easy when the systems in place are so simplistic. Pretty much warp around to win. Why should I have to fight monsters 30+ levels higher than me in order to have any sort of challenge? Why isn't there more varied attacks like allowing my button mashing to be more dynamic and interactive? Why is it that I just hold the attack button? Where's the motivation to get stronger if everything is easy?

*Please note that I don't buy games for their story, combat is more important to me as that's where I'll be spending 90% of my time. As far as I'm concerned, the combat here is less deep than Bouncer (Square's beat'm up from 2000). Sure, FFXV looks pretty but I don't give a **** about graphics if the complexity of an RPG isn't there. The sad thing is that I think it's not even complex enough as an action game, at least in good action games you usually learn more moves as you progress and the fights become more strategic and complex as you go.

I initially played this game with much fun, but now re-playing it gives me this sense of deficiency in quality. But since its got all the dlcs (except ardyn), the volume makes up for the flaws. Still, I think it could have been so much better and near perfection if their efforts were distributed more evenly

    Unfinished game.
The characters are a delight to watch.
    Openworld is great
Combat is just... There. 0 depth, 0 strategy. Have fun holding the same button for the whole game.
    Story is ass.
    10/10 ambiance.
    Music is pure bliss.
If the quality of the first half of the game carried over to the other then this would be an easy 10 overall.

The gameplay is basically the same with slightly improved graphics and a fluid 60+ fps or higher. But other than that, you can beat most encounters by just holding down the attack button (it's very entertaining to do this in front of friends or family, by beating encounters with one hand on a controller, lol). The game as a whole is great. But like I said earlier, if you've played and finished this all on a console before, there's really no reason to get this again. The game was already pretty to look at via a PS4. On a PC, that "wow factor" due to those 'ultra' graphics settings wear off real quickly. Expand

The combat was really fun but that levelling thing sort messes with that as well. Had they just put in the time to fill out the world they made it could have been a masterpiece. I mean they could have at least done NPC quests to give flavor to each one, i know there are DLC of them but that is after the main story. After I was done I didnt want to do the DLC or even go back, you will understand if you play. IF you are really into it, do EVERY sidequest before chapter 9, story wise it makes more sense. It could have been a true masterpiece had they just crafted the game that was already there, its sad really, a waste of such potential. The music really gets you into it and sticks with you, the car cruises, if it was heading toward masterful quests which built the world up well that would have been absolutely brilliant.

Still I will keep this game in mind and hope for a proper remake at some point in the future because I really appreciate its great ambitions that were unfortunately left unfulfilled to a degree that made this title a bad experience to actually play. I think a proper remake of this game could actually be a great FF game with a mature tone.

I could only really enjoy the music - everything else (story, characters, gameplay) had (too) high ambitions but ultimately lacks "soul" and depht and on top there are huge optimization problems with this game.

There was a lot of potential in the story but the first 2/3 of the game feels cheesy like it was aimed at a very young audience who might prefer blunt storytelling and plain characters.
Also I hate the K-Pop aesthetics which made the main characters look extremely unappealing and unrelatable to me.

Ultimately what killed this game for me was the bad optimization/port and that they filled the game with useless/boring quests, mechanics and an open world that didn't add anything fun or interesting to the game instead of focusing on a set of core principles that could actually carry the game to be excellent (story, pacing, gameplay, optimization etc).

What baffles me is why this game would receive so much praise, when it's gameplay, pacing, character interaction etc still needs so much work and the first 2/3 of the game are just very annoying. From what I could gather from the reviewers I noticed there seems to be a kind of group of accounts that keep pushing very high user reviews to the top of this list and downvotes low score reviews (for whatever reason that is beyond me). Also I can see some reviewers being emotionally captured by the ending/final parts of the game that apparently inspired some strong emotions in some people and I can respect that.
However I feel like it's not enough to judge a game by its ending. This is not a movie. You play this game for a very long time some might hit a triple digit of hours played) and for me it's quite relevant, wether this time is spent in an enjoyable way and FF XV is not delivering on that front.
What it does have is a nice antagonist and a really interesting storyline underneath a very rough skin. But I dont think this is nearly enough to give a game a 9 or a 10. I strongly recommend to look at the FF VII remake instead, if you want a properly crafted, current gen FF experience, that actually makes sense to play. When playing FF XV I kept getting the strong impression that random popular stuff was just meshed together (generic quests, empty open world, stealth etc) and it lacked direction and purpose because there was no proper focus on what should be a defining strength of this game.
I think a Final Fantasy game should bring a good focus on story and characters and I feel like most of the game this didn't work out.

The graphics are good, in particular the facial animations (none of "my face is tired" thing). The landscape is very beautiful. The soundtrack is incredible (as in almost every Final Fantasy). Noctis' relationship with his friends is enjoyable, but sometimes it gets a little repetitive, the same lines of dialogues etc. Nevertheless, the game has its ups and downs. It takes time to really begin. The exploration at the beginning is ok, but after awhile, it gets dull and extremely boring. You don't have much to do in the world. The side quests are AWFUL (as in almost every Final Fantasy), I don't want to move in circles searching for yellow frogs, it's ridiculous. The driving is awful as well, very boring, at least you have fast travel. The main story is not so good, but the final battle and the end of the game are awesome, it helped to increase my score on this game. However, some segments in the main story are dull, very linear without a lot things to do (linearity is not bad, if made it right is good), but in this game isn't good. What saved this game was the willing to see the end and the battle mechanics (with an awesome soundtrack). Unfortunately, I forced to finish this game because I really wanted to see the end, the side quests and the car segments are very boring and I almost stopped playing. The game is not a masterpiece, it has its flaws, but playable. Expand

It's a nice game, by itself it would be an 8, but for a Final Fantasy, It's a 7.
The world is uninspired. Lots of desert.. a fake Venice (seriosuly???).. an endless train ride...
With the power of creating a world from scratch, anything you can imagine, this is the best they could come up with? I understand they wanted to make this chapter more realistic and closer to our real world. I

Less detail.
The combat system is a lot of spam action, the strategy of the old turn-based system is mostly gone.
In short, this is an overall solid game but it's missing the magic, uniqueness and emotional involvement that I haven't felt now since FFX.

There was still some threads left unfinished, which I hope one day they can come back and revisit as a remake, in similar fashion to FF7-Remake.

The rpg action was decent, almost on the level of kingdom hearts.

The story was even more fascinating, despite how depressing it was, but it went somewhat unfinished because it was suppose to have multiple endings.

Pros : Overall visual experience (especially scenery and magic), grand music by Yoko Shimomura, sense of traveling, and a lot of things to do other than going through the main story

Cons : Clumsy storytelling and the story ITESELF, some graphical defects (a bit too much blur in AA, akward lighting in some places), bad camerawork and lock-on system, lack of naturalness in character

The gameplay is fun but lacks depth and polish, with it often feeling like an underwhelming hack and slash game, however it is still fun and often very satisfying. The story is interesting but in my opinion fails to deliver due to it being separated into different forms of media including the game, movie and anime and it also suffers from one dimensional characters.

The world is also quite one dimensional, with little to discover and countless invisible walls throughout the 'open world' that can be quite annoying at times.

Overall, I wanted this game to be so much more. Its fine the way it is, but its simply unfinished and had the potential to be so much greater.

Although it might sounds good on paper to many, I am disappointed by this massive production. The open world is not open enough, the UI is heavy and the navigation between places is cumbersome. I don't want to spoil the game but the map is not even fully explorable. It's missing cities and life. It feels unfinished. So much potential. The action part of the game is an attempt at making the game more accessible, versus the previous combat systems which were turn based. But the new combat system is very, very technical, very, very difficult to master, resulting in more frustration than fun. From time to time, you score great combos, but very often you scratch your head to make it happen. Most of players seem to fight with basic actions only and gave up or never cared about more advanced combos as it's not easily accessible. FF15 is a difficult game and the easy mode is there to appeal to most of the player (easy mode means you resuscitate right away when you die).

On the other hand, the story is nice, the characters are lovely, the art work and direction are pure gold, typical Japanese fashion, with kings, emperors, soldiers, sons, daughters, villains, mega corps, technologies, travel, love, … The graphics and the soundtracks are gorgeous. I would hope Square would have developed more the universe of FF15, would have invested more time. By the way the movie Kingsglaive based on FF15's universe is really worth it.

I consider FF15 is good beta game. A game that is 75% complete. Square even gave up on the initial promise of multiple DLCs. If it suits your personality, you might like it for the world, you might like it for the combat system, you might like it for the story and immersion. But you rarely like it for the 3 altogether.

Nice one Square Enix. This is the first FInal Fantasy that really got me!
Beautiful graphics and maybe the best sceneries I've seen to date.
I think the open world aspect needs a lot more work, but it does the trick for now.
Looking forwards for the next one.

It is not the best of the saga but it is a good game for new and veteran players. It tries to innovate and cover a lot -apart from the fact that its development was eternal- and that ends up weighing it down.

Despite what you might expect, you get quite attached to the group, the landscape, its fauna and its conflicts. The combat system is pretty good although again the camera shines for doing whatever it wants.
The music is never out of place and has silly little details like food, sleeping and the main characters' hobbies, which has its charm.
I can't say it's a guaranteed purchase, but I had a pretty good time, despite having cancelled content and a bit of DLC abuse.
At least it delivers on its introductory message, and even though it doesn't claim its throne in the JRPG world, it's not a bad game in the genre and a step forward for Square Enix, which had become somewhat stagnant after FF XIII.

A bit too linear and unoriginal to be considered a good game, it is however a solid entry in the series and a comfortable experience for RPG fans. It is surprising how well put together it is considering the troubled production. Soundtrack is also very good, although not exceptionally good.

WHAT'S BAD: The Story is really poorly written! Characters are empty with no development whatsoever. BIG chunks of the story are not told in the game, requiring you to go watch the anime, the movie or buy DLCs just to understand what's happening. Also combat just stops working whenever you are fighting one of the main story bosses, it feels clunky and not grand at all, plus camerawork is almost unbearable in those battles and all the previous gameplay goes to trash as you get thrown into a new kind of gameplay entirely, with very different mechanics and move-sets. Finally, the camera is often a burden, especially if you are playing with a controller.

In short, for a story-driven RPG game with the Final Fantasy name, the story is very poor, and the characters are not laid out nor do they get any development. Nonetheless, the gameplay experience is very good throughout 90% of the game and the world exploration mechanics and sidequests makes for a very fun and entertaining game to play! There are a lot of things to do, secret places, enemies and weapons to get that you might easily miss the first time around, giving you some replay value. Just don't buy this game for it's story, it's not good story.

Yes, there are a few bugs here are there, but nothing game-breaking. Usually minor visual glitches. Expand

Final Fantasy XV may not feel like an older game from the franchise, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I grew up with the older Final Fantasy game and while XV is different, that doesn't make it a bad game in the franchise. I enjoyed my time spent in game and look forward to doing more.

While FFXV is at times engrossing and beautiful, it can also feel like a pretty, hollow shell. The last quarter of the game feels rushed, as if the developers had to wrap things up under pressure, and that's after waiting over a decade for this to come out. While it is not the stellar titan we hoped for, it's certainly Final Fantasy, and we can all be thankful for that.

The PC port of Final Fantasy 15 is a monster regarding scope, but the gameplay isn't on par with older series milestones.
