This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 5 is that little bit of chaotic open-world escapism we all need. The story is not the most joyful in the world but the Seed family all seem to have motives and backstory that contribute to their actions and almost make the player feel a level of empathy for them, Other than Jacob of course, he's just some military fella (That's all the backstory he's given in effect). Each region poses unique mechanics and threats however Faith's region has the most diverse gameplay in my opinion. In this region we learn more about the hallucinogenic simply referred to as "Bliss" and how it is developed and the reasons it is used. Now many people do complain about the ending but I found it hard to regard in the grand scheme of things, the ending wasn't important to me as I enjoyed the game as a Co-Op experience because the main feature that made me buy this game, A full Co-Op campaign and it was ridiculously enjoyable; Liberating outposts, Engaging in dogfights, taking out enemies with shovels and hell, even the fishing was fun. Far Cry 5 may not have the best story or ending ever but it is one of the best experiences I've had with games for a long time, Expand

In the evolution of Far Cry also Far Cry 5 is a masterpiece.
Ubisoft made everything alright: great graphics, fantastic immersion, realistic sound, beautiful landscapes, refreshing story setting, perfect gameplay mechanics.

Pros (a few of the many others): The game's story is pretty curious the graphics are beautiful, there are so many cool guns, and the biggest pro: you can pet all the dogs in the game. Cons: even tho the story is great and the graphics are beautiful, the game gets boring very quickly, the enemy's AI is more stupid than me (and I'm very stupid). Summary: The game is great but it can get boring fast.

I've finished this title 3 times and 4th is more worth than finish FC6 1st time. Great sandbox and map location. Story - not bad, very moody, but not much suspenseful.
    Currently almost hasn't any bugs.

I only played around 10h but Ubisoft really put an absurd amount of work into this. I was very pleasantly surprised. The story is intelligent and well implemented, gameplay is fun (at least when you only play every other far cry, there are similar - shocking!).

Pros: Game is a lot of fun, graphics are beautiful, helicopter is awesome, sniping is great.

Cons: Repetitive, inescapable captures with the "prove yourself" obstacle course/shooting drills. After 4 times i'm sick of it. Uninstalling.

This is more or less what you expect from a modern open world game -- while most of the game is just ok, once in a while you get these moments of chaotic emergent action which you want to tell other people about. My favorite moment was an attempt to clear a roadblock setup by cultists; while I was setting myself up to stealthily kill them one by one, a few resistance fighters showed up from nowhere and turned the whole thing into a chaotic firefight. More cultists arrived, and the fight became tense, when suddenly ***a runaway moose decided to flip a truck*** which then exploded near my enemies turning everything into a fiery nightmare. Anyway, the roadblock was gone... ok, it was replaced by a cemetery of charred vehicles which still blocked the road, but, hey, all the cultists were gone, mission accomplished! :D

The game has tons of interesting systems: there are grappling mechanics, ziplines, cars, trucks, boats, planes, helicopters, pets... You can even go fishing, and the world is beautifully rendered with its forests, mountains, rivers and lakes. And your companions, your enemies, random passersby, animals, water, all these things interact in interesting ways. Cougars hunt for deer and are ran over by ATVs, independently from what you are doing, but you still have enough control of the action to find the whole thing pleasant.

Well, with a few exceptions: there are a few instances where the game interrupts whatever you are doing to start a story mission even when you do not want it. These moments are very annoying (especially because the story missions which follow feel quite bland), but are very few and are not enough to turn this into a bad game.

I also found the villains underwhelming; they have lots of lines, but they do not reveal much of their characters beyond "we are deranged cultists, each one of us defined by a single character trait which features in every single line we say". Even the main villain has long speeches that felt a bit repetitive and which weren't that interesting to me.

Also, the game is slightly bloated with dull missions and collectibles. Well, at least you can buy maps which show the collectible's locations, and I must admit that the world is beautiful to explore... but I wish games did not have so many of these menial tasks which we players which are slightly OCD never manage to leave aside. Oh, and fishing with the mouse is way too cumbersome -- if you want to fish, use a controller (still boring, but at least doable).

A final negative point is the fact that you MUST use Ubisoft Connect on top of Steam to run this. Isn't one piece of DRM enough?

But, all in all, I had lots of fun with the 50hs I spent with this. Score: 84/100.

If you know and are aware of the Far Cry series, this is just as formulaic as the others. This is a fun, turn your brain off adventure that will challenge your creative side. The lessons learned from previous games is evident. It has been greatly improved. There is still room in regards to customization of your gear, but this is one of those games that has taken queues from the community to improve and did so.

The most important thing, ALL of the potential political fear about this game is unfounded. It goes out of its way to avoid anything to the effect. To the benefit of the game. I would have probably just rolled my eyes and shut it off if it got too preachy. I play games to get away from the constant news feed. THANK YOU UBISOFT! We have had a dicey relationship, but you did right with this one.

The story isn't overly complex, or deep. Just like every other Far Cry game. The characters are somewhat sympathetic, but not to the point that compared to Vas. They peaked with Vas when it came to interesting characters, but i think it might be as much the actor as the script. Each of them does have their own appeal/revulsion and it is quite clear what is good and what is bad. Very white hat/black hat.

Finally, THEY DID DLC RIGHT! This got an extra +1 from me for actually not having ANY of the DLC a direct connection to the main game. It isn't slices of the full game separated off. It is TOTALLY side stories that only tangentially connect to the main game. They haven't been released yet, but you can see where they come from.

To be vague and not spoil anything, the three are "Dead Living Zombies" probably relates to the drug storyline. "Hours of Darkness" a Vietnam story, seems to be tied to a sidequest about a Vietnam vet. I'm guessing his past. Finally, "Lost on Mars" seems to be tied to another sidequest that is a strange science fiction X-Files type.

So yea. Fun game. Not overly complex Far Cry storyline. If you are looking for deep storytelling, you wouldn't be considering a Far Cry game.

The story is quite good as well. It's not some fairy-tale happy ending that every other game does. If you really paid attention to the story and you know all 3 endings, especially the "big" ending..it should leave you thinking and wondering like a good story does It's a mixture of mind control and religious freaks and they did a good job with the protagonists.

People saying the story is predictable likely don't even fully understand it. The story is deeper than meets the eye and there are numerous explanations and theories as to how everything happened.

    The "story" in general
Enemies constantly spawn out of thin air behind you
Animals contantly DE-spawn when you are trying to follow them
It becomes obvious quite quickly that the world is only existing right in front of you. Turn your head for 30 seconds, then look back, and it's a roll of the dice what you'll be seeing.
    The world feels extremely UNpersistent.
The emergent gameplay is fun, but becomes stale once you realize that stuff is being thrown at you just because you are there, not because they "run into you coming from far away".

Ok, so I understand that having a completely persistent world is difficult. You'd have to track and process AI for all NPC's everywhere, all the time. It's probably not doable, especially on the consoles. But in Far Cry 5 it seems like nothing is persistent at all. Even the things you are looking at. Following a deer? You can be certain that if it goes out of sight for 1 seconds, it'll be de-spawned and your hunting skills are suddenly pretty useless then. It's basically a game of luck if you manage to keep them in sight for long enough that they won't just disappear into thin air. Same goes for enemies. You will be followed and suddenly you'll notice that they've gone quiet. Not because you defeated them, but because the game has removed them completely. It's the one thing I will say sortof ruins FC5. The lack of persistence.

In-game silver bars currency is not a problem. Some complain about it, but really, just get the double fur perk and you'll have plenty of money. It was never a problem for me and I've pretty much maxed out my character and even buy special ammo if I feel like it. You basically only need the silver bars if you want the special-skin weapons, which was never something I cared for anyway. Let me point out that these special weapons have pretty much the same stats as the none-skinned ones, so it's not a big deal to not have them.

But really, it's a fun game. Just don't expect it to be Skyrim or Witcher 3. This is the light-weight type open world game, where the world is there, but nothing is going on anywhere but right in front of you.

Great characters throughout the story. The story can at times seem a little muddy, and some times the game rips you out of what you're doing to keep telling the story, and it's annoying. But you get use to it. Felt like we had a huge pay off that wasn't too predictable in the end. Which i enjoyed.

AI is straight up terrible at times though. That is worth mentioning. But most of the time it was decent enough.

The shooting in general feels good.

While the game has micro-transactions, not a single one of them was appealing to me as i don't care for playing too much around with cosmetics. I'm in it for the action and the story.

Took me 16 hours to complete the story plus a large chunk of the side quests, but still had some left when i finished the game.

Lands of a 8 due to the clunky storytelling and the slightly poor AI. Only because 7.5 isn't a score on here :-(

Right off the bat, Far Cry 5 feels much more natural and immersive than its predecessors. The graphics have been improved even further (especially with the HD resolution pack) and the game remains optimized since it uses the same engine as Far Cry 4.

In contrast to the previous games, FC5 takes a hands-off approach. Ubisoft decided that gamers should be allowed to figure out their own way of approaching the game rather than having them complete missions one after the other. In this game, you need to gain control of three regions, and the missions you choose to do are entirely up to you. The order in which you take over the regions affects the cutscenes you get, so your journey is unique to you.

One issue I had was that the northern region was a little boring. There weren't that many missions to do there and they were mostly errand runs. Another minor issue I experienced was that I couldn't figure out how to fish in the game no matter how much I tried.

Overall, I think the game is still a solid 8. There wasn't really any new content added to the game and the story isn't the greatest because it revolves around violent extremism, but it's a bit more cohesive than FC4's. FC5 simply merged the previous two games together and polished them. Compared to the previous games, FC5 feels a bit more comfortable to play.

    HOURS OF DARKNESS DLC
This was a fun DLC based on the Vietnam War. It only lasted an hour, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I really liked the effort put into creating the map and the overall feel of it. It's truly a well-made DLC. I don't have any complaints. Score: 9/10

    LOST ON MARS DLC
My main gripe with this DLC (although it's been a gripe throughout the entire series for me as a whole), is that the entire story is narrated by Hurk, whom I hate with a passion because of his annoying personality. The story is really random and silly. You experience all the map has to offer after a few locations. The lack of transportation is a turnoff since you move around very slowly. I don't recommend playing this DLC. Score: 5/10

Some of the most fun i've had with the games mechanics in a long time. Artistically, this game is a masterpiece. From the dirt flying through the air as you drop bombs on cultists, to the wildlife of the deep forest hunting.

Some other key elements is some of the audio work. lt is absolutely tremendous. The sound track blows me away as different tracks play through different scenarios as your gun fire echos through the forest.

Gameplay wise, It is great. The shooting mechanics are solid and feel satisfying without overdoing it. The AI could use some work though. I found some occasions where I felt like I was dealing with GTA V AI flying off the road when I start shooting. Also the game seemed like playing on hard was a healthy medium for me because the AI have such a hard time spotting you if you're careful. Sometimes I would peek out of a bush and shoot multiple RPG's at them and they wouldn't know where it would be coming from. Although there are some drawbacks in that field, the AI still know how to flank attackers, hide in the forest and get the jump on you, and their air support... one of the biggest most exhilarating things in this game is dealing with air support. Being creative in your encounters is encouraged and usually rewarded if executed correctly.

The CO-OP is almost a necessity when playing this game. Tackling through different bases with a friend might seem like a boring repetitive thing to do but we always had every fight go differently. Some encounters went as planned and some went very, very wrong. It is really helpful to have a friend back you up especially when **** hits the fan and they call reinforcements, shooting flares up through the air as helicopters and fighter planes rain death from above. When playing CO-OP, there is a tethering system meaning that you can only be so far from your partner otherwise you and your partner get sent back to the loading screen. There is a warning screen saying that you are too far away but when I am on air support duty and my friend is on the ground, i get that warning screen far too often and it becomes pretty annoying.

The new perk system they introduced is ok. Nothing too crazy. Almost like it was a downgrade from Far Cry 3s perk system. This makes getting perks only rewarding from having the extra ammo slots and extra health. So what happened to crafting? Crafting is pretty much thrown away and replaced by this dumbed down perk system except there is one perk that allows you to craft explosives and other home-made goodies but thats it.

The story of Far Cry 5 is more or less a repeat of what happened in 3 but with different characters. Some of the traditional drug trips are introduced along with other elements directly taken from the 3rd game. I dont want to spoil anything so really the only other thing I can say is that the story is VERY predictable. Almost like they didn't even try to surprise the player.

Overall, This game is an innovative piece of artwork with solid mechanics and gameplay with a couple issues with the AI and CO-OP.

Yes, there is micro-transactions in the game. It kind of blows my mind why they even added them in because it completely defeats the purpose of hunting/fishing in the wilderness and selling animal pelts/fish/skin for money which can be spent on having personal vehicles, weapons, and other tools. The items do not really seem inflated or influenced my the micro-transactions at all considering everything doesn't really need any hardcore grind for. It seems like the traditional shop in previous Far Crys that had shops. Its just another reason for people to just hate on this game when it doesn't need to even be there in the first place.

I know this review is a little early but this is just my personal take on the games release so far.

    Gameplay/Mechanics: 8.5
    Story: 6.5
    Graphic Design: 9.0
    Soundtrack: 9.0
    Compatibility on PC (G4560 w/ GTX 1060 3G) I know its potato but c'mon: 7.0

    Overall: 8.0

I will be updating this review as I play more of what the game has to offer.

    Thanks for reading :)

So, Far Cry definitely has a formula, but it's that formula that makes it great! This game is tons of fun. The people that keep talking about how it's Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 4 with a new skin aren't really saying anything bad about the game in my opinion. I don't believe it deserves a perfect 10, but some of these ratings are low simply due to personal preference. The point of the matter is... if you don't like Far Cry games, then don't play Far Cry games. Play something else. Don't play a Far Cry game and expect something completely different. Anyway, it's a great game, and if you've never played a Far Cry game before, then you are in for a great surprise. It is extremely fun to play. Is this The Witcher 3 or Mass Effect 2? No. Is it a great Far Cry game? Yes! Expand

Are you looking to test AI? Perhaps quantify an NPC's reasoning skills? Well you should probably look somewhere else. Even with that said, the game doesn't deserve a knock because there are some very serviceable AI that will KILL you dead!

The story is deeper than the harshest critics are allowing. It is well thought out and may seem shallow if you are hell bent on picking it

The story is deeper than the harshest critics are allowing. It is well thought out and may seem shallow if you are hell bent on picking it apart....but remember we are here for escapism not a literature study. Its fun, cohesive and climatic in the scope of this game.

Gameplay is superb. Like in most Ubi games, it has all what you'd expect and its executed flawlessly thus far. It runs very well and havn't experienced any optimization problems. I am on a GTX 1070 and I'm 60fps+ on ultra.

15 hours in, the game is still a riot of a good time. If you are familiar with the FC series, this setting is as wonderful, open and teaming with wildlife. I like it more than the acclaimed Far Cry 3 tropical setting. While its not as big, in my opinion its much richer. With the countless trails, lakes, rivers, mountains, forests, vistas farms and cabins. It has it all.

I can honestly say that this purchase has been worth it so far as I have not even tried the Arcade Mode in which players create maps and objectives for pvp. While that area deserves its own review, don't convolute the two.

Far Cry 5 is worth a buy in my opinion.

Also these little events are a decent thing to do when you have a slow day and decide to do them to get any cosmetic or different weapon skins.I do Like it how the devs are bringing back Far Cry 3 in the season pass. However you could access FC3 at May 29th 2018 and DLCs April 2018. The upcoming DLCs seems to be interesting twists in the American setting, my most favorite is the Vietnam DLC and the Mars one.

For a 60 dollar game I could recommend this game to a friend that enjoys completing the games 100%, I know that I did enjoy the game and the Story.

Ubisoft still doesn't understand that cutscenes are meant to give information to players. 90% of this game's cutscenes have no content, as in nothing useful is said. The characters in them simple spout the same few lines over and over with different words. This is probably meant to "build characters", but having them doing the same thing over and over, spouting nonsense, isn't what I call a good use of my time. Usually I watch all the cutscenes in a game (on the off chance there is usable information there), but in this game I just had to start bypassing them. Cutscenes in Far Cry 5 are completely useless.

    MAGIC BULLETS
I vehemently hate the person(s) who designed the marked or hunted "missions". They are the antithesis of open world and they don't even make sense in the context of the game. You are doing something (as in you have something you want to do), but then people just come up to you with magic bullets and capture you. No chance of getting away from that. In the context of the game, that would be the end of the game. Personally, I've killed thousands of those cultists. So, if they would capture me, they wouldn't let me live.

Great gospel choral music and the old-school country tunes just add to the immersion.

No game's perfect, but I think Ubisoft made a decent effort with this one. Admittingly, the gunplay choices are a bit over-simplified, the bullet physics laggy at times, and the vehicle dynamics clunky; but, to be honest, it's a needle in a haystack problem; if don't go looking for it, you probably won't notice it's a big issue.

As for the plot, it is a bit far-fetched (and, at times, cringe-worthy), but hey, the game is called "Far Cry" for a reason; so don't be surprised when it's about a self-deluded hill-billy cult proclaming the post-apocalyptic testament as an excuse to takeover this sleepy rural Montana town, and no surprise, your job is to liberate it. But the great thing is you can do it in any order you want and at your pace. Word of advice: take time to explore the game, free roam across the sweeping landscapes and enjoy it; don't rush to tediously complete all the missions at once.

My two cents: It's worth it. Played 48+ hours of it. Fun solo. Fun-ner with mates in co-op (albeit, servers do drop-out at busier times like Saturday night which can be infuriating). Lots of shiggles to be had. Beautiful and wonderful open world game.

I love Far Cry series (esp. FC 3 and 4), and I waited for this game 3 years. But most of the time played in FC5 I thought only of why it's so boring. In third path of the game the plot becomes more interesting, and the end just blew my mind with question "is that allowed?". It was really impressive and funny simultaneously.
FC5 plot is very relevant today, and for this I rate the game in 8 points

The setting is finally set in an American state with everything that screams "AMERICA!". From big guns to big trucks and tractors. Finally a game in redneck country... but with a cult! The gameplay is about the same from Far Cry 4 if you played that one then don't expect too much difference in style. You could argue it is a copy and paste but every game tries to hold some signature style to feel like their own game. Honestly it does feel and play like a Far Cry and there are some differences. Especially knocking cultists with shovels. That's a keeper. The AI from what you may heard is pretty bad. There isn't really any skill but it makes sense as they are just psychotic rednecks running around with guns and trucks with guns and planes with guns. You get it. It is a militia I wouldn't expect skill except from sharpshooters or hunters. It only gets hard as they call more from their psychotic wolf pack and bring in more gun blazing cultists. Now the scenery is where it strikes gold for me. It is just wonderful to look at. Sometimes I just sit back and enjoy a cold one looking at the beautiful landscape the developers created for us as the cultists drive mad on the roads running over anything that crosses them, but I choose to see the beauty in this world. I mean once you explore it you will think "have you seen anything so full of splendor?" I haven't. Not in any Far Cry before. This game without a doubt has the best scenery this year and that is where it ends unfortunately in terms of winning any awards. The story is somewhat stale as you kill your way to finding the father instead of your son who turns out to be waaaay older than you and runs a company of robots. Anyways, I do like the way that you feel trapped and stranded, like most Far Cry games. The villian or (villians should I say) are a "family" and you follow it like a family tree; which is like a nice feel except I've seen it before in another Ubi game...Anywho the Father (Joseph Seed) is very interesting but nothing as insane like Vaas in the 3rd game. I wonder if he knows the definition of insanity... but the ending is where it is very controversial besides the whole cult thing. It is an ending you may not like and it isn't very rewarding. However when I went through it there were two endings (plus a secret one I wish I took) and I of course picked the bad ending cause who the hell picks the good? I just freaking killed half the cult like a purple god with a gold freaking gauntlet! Nothing is going to be good! Anyways it gets pretty weird pretty quick, and of course nonsensical, or at least thats how I took it when I played through it. Now I'm not going to spoil what it is because I want anybody who is reading this that hasn't played it play it because despite the similar Far Cry 4 gameplay feel, it is still a good game. What I am going to say is that the endings will result in frustration and I think it is somewhat satisfying. It leaves you wanting more and leaving with the question "What the F**k just happened?" It may not be the ending people always get in a Far Cry game but I think that is the point. It is refreshing as you leave with frustration but also being mind blown. Going in with expectations with somewhat of a reward of killing someone, oops spoilers, is what will bring you down. But there is plenty of other games with this reward so I am one of the few, maybe only, that is happy it didn't end the way we all expect in a Far Cry game and that was the point. A twist ending in a small little county in a valley full of freaking land and little civilization. Everything executed well for me except the hunting. The last thing I'll say is the hunting is very disappointing as it has changed from the previous games which is very frustrating. And a frustration that is not to be accepted with. (SPOILER) the hunting in this game shows no cutting animation like 3 or 4 or Primal. After killing the animal you wasted so much time chasing for and pressing the loot button, it leaves you with a already gutted animal. Shame. In a world full of wildlife and a setting where hunting should be priority number 1 it is very disappointing. The hunting should've been either the same or better than whatever lazy sh*t they did cause this beautiful landscape is the perfect place for hunting as the environment is very embracing of having the feel of being in the wild, more so than any other Far Cry. But oh well, maybe next time. The whole hunting aspect is the most stale part in a game where it would make sense to be the necessity of surviving and not just for money to buy stupid skins and silly redneck clothes to impress your fellow rednecks and partner. Anyways I give it a 8/10 because it still satisfies in terms of straight out action like any other Far Cry. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

First of all, no more exotic locations, this time we visit good ol' Montana. It is a nice change and the country looks great. But most important for me was the story. I feel that it is much stronger than in the previous Far Cry games. The very beginning of the game is very atmospheric, very strong, it really sucks you in. Sadly the actual game is not so strong as far as story is concerned. I actually feel that this time the game could have been more story oriented, there was certainly a huge potential there. Also the middle part of the story is pretty predictable. But all that is luckily overshadowed by the ending. You get three endings, and none of them can really be views as a good ending, despite what you can read on the internet. Both regular endings are very strong and yet without any pathetic Hollywood happy ending. This is really great, I was honestly surprised and overjoyed. The third, secret ending is pretty obvious this time, but still cool and in the end, it might be the best one, depending on your worldview I guess. There are other positives too. The graphics looks amazing, the game font is pretty as usual, and this time the music is fantastic as well. There are some negatives, but I have to say I have generally positive view of this game, better I would say than with Far Cry 4. There are some minor annoying things, like the ever present enemy aircrafts and helicopters, which are really bothersome, or the story car chase, which is just incredibly difficult compare to the rest of the game (at least on the highest difficulty, which I had to temporarily lower for this car chase only). Your allies are mostly written to resemble perceived redneck stereotypes, it is usually not so bad, but nothing great either. There are some microtransactions and some SJW, but honestly it could have been much worse on both fronts.

    DLCs:

Hours of Darkness - The first DLC takes you to Vietnam, and of all three DLCs this one is the most serious and straightforward one. This story takes place during one night in the Vietnam Jungle, it is pretty atmospheric, but all in all, nothing to write home about. Verdict: 63 %

Lost On Mars - Crazy sci-fi shootout with Nick Rye and Hurk Jr. I have to say, I did not know what to expect and I was really pleasantly surprised by this one. It is pretty funny throughout and the action is quite different from the regular Far Cry experience. Best Far Cry 5 DLC for me. Verdict: 86 %

Dead Living Zombies - Guy Marvel pitching 7 zombie movie ideas to different directors. Also pretty funny, but very short (less than 2 hours). I bet this one was made to fill all of the SJW quotas. Verdict: 68 %

In all honesty, I believe that the story of this game touches something really big and serious. A huge problem we are dealing with on everyday basis: The Modern World. So I am not usually big on religious cults, but I would join this one in a heartbeat. Final Verdict: 82 %

There is a lot of side quests but the main story was so interesting that I almost didn't finish any of them and I rushed through the main plot very quickly. Of course you can complete everything after the story and it is grate that nothing is holding the player to just focus on main campaign and nothing else. I wasn't bored in any minute of my playthrough there is a nice doze of humor and action. World is big very good looking and full of interesting places and locations. AI of enemies can be little bit dumb but because of that game is little easier. Moreover soundtrack is just brilliant! Every track on the radio was a blast and joy to listen. Far cry 5 is a game that you will remember and it's definitely worth your time and money. Expand

It was my first Far Cry, so I was new to the series, but I like the idea of the cult so I bought it. The gameplay is enjoyable and fun, the scenario was stunning, the story great but not what I expected. Maybe if it wasn't so, I mean, explosive and more focusing on character aspect maybe I could enjoy even more. By the way I like it, 8/10.

But still, with each game of the sequel, Far cry games quality is increasing constantly. And i can say, Far cry 5's game elements are flawless.
I know there is only one thing separates far cry games to each other and it is the story and atmosphere. And this game's American spirit atmosphere is really strong. But still, game's devoloped simple mechanics are quite enjoyable. They just same with the 4 other games before, but it still feels fresh and quality. I think the most important thing that makes the game enjoyable is the short playtime. Game can be finished easily under 20 hours. And it is awesome, because story is predictable and the game's mechanics are kind a linear.
Long story short, this is an obviously good game.

There was just a major issue : the fact that the main plot is catching up with you if you don't do the main quests, and that's pain in the A, for an open world, in my opinion. Oh and the AI or friendly AI was also kinda stupid sometimes.

This is your basic Far Cry game - nothing more, nothing less. The assault rifle's accuracy is terrible, and it's not just because of bullet drop. You're basically not able to hit the broad side of a barn from 100 meters away. The rounds aren't just affected by the force of gravity, but apparently also by the rotation of the earth and extreme crosswinds/mini-cyclones. The bow and arrow, on the other hand, is extremely accurate in that the arrows are only affected by gravity, which is basically linear across distance. The graphics are great on PC, and the game runs flawlessly on an i7-8700K. The world is also meticulously crafted and immersive.

The only major drawback is the frequent cutscene hijacking. They've done this in all the FarCrys, but they really laid it on thick in this one. It's pretty common to be meandering along aimlessly and then suddenly get pulled into some boring cutscene where you're forced to listen to some lengthy monologue from one of the game's villains. These will often culminate in some sort of battle royale with real or imagined persons or apparitions, respectively. It's frustrating and grating.

Also, I originally rated this game as an 8/10, but had to knock it down to a 7/10 after playing it for several more hours and experiencing the unusually and unnecessarily short campaign. The game really tries to rush you through the main story. In fact, it's the only game I've ever played where I found that I was progressing way faster than I actually thought I was (if that makes any sense at all). For example, missions don't necessarily advance the story and push you forward to "boss battles." By this I mean, merely killing NPCs advances your progress meter in a given area of the game, and once it hits a certain number, then you're cutscene hijacked to a boss battle. It doesn't take a particularly long time to fill up those progress meters, either. You could conceivably finish this game in twelve hours. The reason why this is odd is because the world is pretty big (not Witcher 3 big, but big nonetheless), so it's not clear to me why the developers wanted to "Call of Duty" the campaign length. They had plenty of digital real estate to work with, and there's a lot of side missions, so it's not like they didn't have voice actors on hand. It's like the writers and the map developers worked in completely separate installations and never communicated about their respective visions. Also, the villains and characters are basically never developed at all, and this is entirely because of the remarkably short campaign length. It's by far the shortest campaign from any of the Far Crys.

Also, I agree with others that have noted that you'll encounter enemies every 100 yards, roughly. Not so much whilst ambling about the woods, but definitely on the road way. I think if you pay an extra ten bucks for the "deluxe edition," you get a helicopter with machine guns and rockets equipped from the moment you're able to access a helicopter (which is very early on). That's not a small advantage, either. The helicopter essentially allows you to rain death down on your enemies from on high with infinite ammo. With no helicopter, you're essentially fighting them off with a musket or bow and arrow (see first paragraph). You're AI partners will come in handy - so far, I've unlocked the archer (female, can't remember name), and a grenadier named "Herk." They're both equally useful in their own right.

Anyway, I recommend the game, particularly if you've enjoyed past Far Crys.

The landscape is fabulous and helicopter sightseeing is fantastic, especially because plane controls are terrible with mouse and keyboard. There is no rain so you can wash your cars with sponges, bare chested bald bullet sponges easily eating multiple high caliber bullets to the head. You'll be tasked to take down a family, but they will take you down first, 9 times, while you fly through the sky or hide in a bunker nobody ever heard of. At the end you'll face a choice, an important choice, whether or not start the final main mission to witness a pointless and unsatisfactory ending.

    Pros:
    - U.S.A. setting
    - Visuals are stunning
    - Well optimized
    - Side missions are varying and interesting
    - Characters are funny
    - Hunting, fishing (after you get high power gear)
    - Cars, helicopters
    - Chaotic firefights while chased by an airplane and wildlife at the same time
    - Free roaming
    - Mars setting in later DLC!

    Cons:
    - Constant harassment by enemies and wildlife
    - Terrible scripted main missions
    - Repeatedly getting abducted from anywhere (seriously, when you see the prompts, just stand next to a road and wait)
    - Not enough and underpowered weapons (i.e., no Vector SMG?)
    - Unable to carry more of .50 cal ammo and bait (due to balance?)
    - Story is basic and weightless
    - Ending(s)

No character customization made it a rather unpleasent game to play in terms of wanting to actually be that character.

Then there were the absolutely terrible boss battles .. serious let downs with repetitive QTE events and dull endurance sequences.

Now .. this is Far Cry 5 .. aaaand .. it feels pretty much uh .. the same.

As a matter of fact, i can hardly separate it from Ghost Recon Wildlands in terms of structure. A large worldmap (not near as large as Wildlands though) that is fairly pretty to look at. (again Wildlands looks better for the scenery, but in terms of detail Far Cry 5 appears to be nicer) .. both games have rather terrible AI with enemies that can easily be "trapped" at doorways . and throw themselves into a bottleneck situation in what can only be described as pure suicide.

The vehicles feel good so far, the mini-missions are standard.

Now is there anything outstanding? ... Not really. The story is OK-ish .. about on a level of a heap 80s action movie. You are good, they are bad .. go kill thousands of them, cause you are GOOD! (and not a psychopatic mass murderer at all) .. no chance to seek a diplomatic or peaceful solution (but its not that kind of game .. )

Well, at least there is a limited character customization and the player character is bland enough (in a positive way) that he/she is not a total jerk like Far Cry 3.

However .. the game lives and falls with its bad guy. And i just dont feel it. It might be kind of a ballsy move to make the bad guys white, religious right wing fundamentalists ... but they are not near as exciting as this one pirate guy from Far Cry 3 .. its actually about as bland as the bad guy(s) from Wildlands.

But the game runs well, looks pretty and offers good action game mechanics for a semi open world game on what feels like a fairly small area. Well above average, but not outstanding.

    Cons:

    * The way the story is built up with having to kill 3 lieutenants by building up the resistance through quests etc. in order to get to the final guy is too similar too how Ghost Recon Wildlands is built up

    * There are way too many enemies. You cant drive for 10 seconds without running into som car, truck, plane or chopper that want to end you.

    * The AI isn't very good and when you learn how it works it just isn't very challenging anymore.

    * A bit too much freedom and sometimes it doesn't really feel like you have a clear direction of what to do next. You simply have to explore, liberate bases etc. to unlock new quests.

    Verdict:

So I didn't have any expectations for this game. I've been dissapointed by Ubisofts games more times than I can coun't. Sure, it's easy to see that this is a Ubisoft game and it shares many mechanics with other Ubisoft games like Assassins Creed and Ghost Recon Wildlands. I personally hated Wildlands as it was nothing but a huge grind and all quests, even main ones, felt like one and the same. Far Cry 5 on the other hand has much better quest design this far. I've only completed 1 of the 3 areas and hopefully the other 2 will feeel unique in terms of quests. It's far from a game of the year but I still find it enjoyable.

Far Cry 5 is a nice and funny FPS that you’ll enjoy most in co-op. The well-proven concept would deserve a rejuvenation and adding a story that is adequate to the rest of the game. [Issue#285]

This fresh take on the Far Cry franchise is clearly visible content-wise, but a tad more discrete on the style. If you're not bothered by the slightly repetitive formula, you'll enjoy the many strengths of this episode.

Far Cry 5 doesn’t propel the series forward — it just refines all of its elements and relegates the infamous towers to the dustbin of history. So if you‘re allergic to open worlds from Ubisoft, don’t say I didn’t warn you. But if you’re eager to meet new wacky characters, complete dozens of missions and enjoy the sights, welcome to Hope County, sinners!
