My feelings on this game are mixed. I'm years late on playing Far Cry - just finished it about a month ago. There were flaws in the game, but I found the whole thing entertaining. For the first little while I felt like I was being drawn into the story - but I was quickly bored with having to drive around, and around and around. I can't use the monocle to see without pulling out the map? Weird. When I approach a checkpoint, why do people automatically start shooting? Why can't I just pass a check point with a bribe or something and be on my way. Overall, I'm not in love with this game. I'm willing to admit that my expectations were out of line with the reality of this game. I'm willing to slug it further to see if I start to like it for what it is - but at this moment, I'm disappointed. I'm giving it a score of 5 on the hope that it will grow on me. Expand

So much potential ruined by repetitive gameplay. 70% of the game is you driving from point A to point B, through the same checkpoints that seem to respawn guards after 5 minutes. I can't believe the reviewers liked this game so much. After wasting many hours playing it, I looked back and realized I had had very little fun. Oh, and of course I was stuck halfway through the game due to a glitch, and frankly I had (and still have) zero interest in starting all over again. This game is boring, boring, boring.

This game starts out strong, you really think its all that for at least an hour or two(or at least I did). Then reality kicks in and declares war on denial. Denial struggles briefly before being overwhelmed by realitys awesome facts. In their(ubisoft montreal) attempt to make a game thats non-linear with freedom to go where you want etc, they got the open world map bit right at least. But after the n-teenth time you have to consume an outpost in a glorious sexplosion of fire and bullets, just to get to the corner store 50 metres down the road in your JeepTM(shudder) you start to wonder why they bothered. You cant move without something shooting at you, as the AI is retarded in the way only a enraged animal could compare, attacking with no reason or motive other than, I can see you, die. Actuallly they dont even need to see you, or have line of site to know where you are, wow! So for all the fantastic scenery in the 50km/2 area you have to explore, its kinda like not seeing the forest for the trees, or in this case the ALWAYS aggressive npcs. This is a shame beyond measure, when placed in comparison to competing titles like fallout3, a world filled with detail and lore that gives more immersion then even the very best graphics can make up for. Theres nothing worth exploring in farcry 2, cause theres nothing to find, its just a dead landscape that provides nothing more then obstacle you have to traverse to get to you next killing field(missions), peppered with npcs you have to kill on the way. Over the course of playing, you will either be given or earn access to this conjealed mess of game devices that offer no real differentiation from one another. Oh, bar the self propagating yet self extinguishing fire. What point is there to getting an upgraded hunting/sniper rifle if the one you already have will kill in a single shot and is fantasticly accurate? And the faux rpg elements of providing stats for weapons, that have no real bearing on the actual performance of said firearm. Pistols more accurate then assualt rifles? Yep sure thing. If you love shooters and care not for depth or feeling, then this title is probably for you. But if it takes more then pretty explosions and mindless killing to keep you interested steer clear of this one. Expand

Simply put, the high detail and realism just aren't enough to mask bigger flaws in the game. Length of game: 10 hours - 40 hours Gameplay: 7/10 I like the openness of each area and the mixed tactics to assaulting every outpost or location. Unlike a traditional straightforward first-player shooter such as the Call of Duty series, the game will allow you to approach each enemy differently depending on the weapons and your individual style. I also like the strict first-person view through the entire game. From shooting enemies to reviving allies to performing surgery on yourself, the camera focuses on how your individual character would act. However, there are MANY flaws in the AI: first, they respawn much to fast to be realistic. (Walk/Drive away from an outpost and come back and fresh troops will replace the ones you just killed minutes ago.) Second, the AI's ammunition isn't realistically consistent. (Keep an enemy with a mortar alive and he'll keep firing shells even past pounding a mile-deep crater into the ground.) Third, the AI takes way too many bullets to kill. (8 AK-47 rounds to kill a guy without a shirt on.) There are many other first-person actions that are very much simplified (like checking ammo in a clip and repetitive stabbing motions with the machete), but those would only be the icing on the cake here. Graphics/Animation: 10/10 Some of the most realistic I've ever seen in a game. With the graphics setting on your computer turned up to the highest, the fire blazes very realistically and the sun's glare catches you when staring directly at it. The AI doesn't seem to have a leg or arm sticking out in a random place, so that helps. Only fault here is the tremendous amount of computer power required to run the game at full graphics quality, but this is a necessity for all high-end PC games. Sounds/Acting: 3/10 The sounds of the game are horrible. What little music there is happens to be completely boring (and much too quiet!) and only makes the game less appealing as a FPS. The only positive here is the action music, which will make your heartbeat race during an intense firefight. The game's voice acting is absolutely horrendous. The actors make no breaks in speaking and do not sound the least bit realistic, especially for a game that strives on realism and higher quality. The game is also very serious and humorless, and even the jokes that the actors make are overshadowed by the darkness and bleakness of their surroundings. Replay Value: 1/10 Absolutely NO replay value whatsoever. At the beginning you have a choice of many different characters, but the choices you make don't affect the missions/gameplay that you end up with. Also, the missions you can perform are very tedious and repetitive. Assaulting an outpost or area becomes the same, over and over, killing enemies or destroying a target or talking to an NPC. Essentially, this becomes the backbone of the game, and absolutely kills the replay value. However, if you like doing the same thing over and over again, this game (and a job on an assembly line) may be perfect for you. Multiplayer: 5/10 Not much to say here, other than the fact that the multiplayer has a Call of Duty-based style. In fact, I would prefer multiplayer over single player because of the fact that you fight human players instead of repetitive computer AI that repeatedly hurls itself at you. Despite its multiplayer mode, I would have prefered that the mods sacrificed the multiplayer and instead focused on working out single player improvements. Lack of a co-op (2 player) campaign also deducted points from this category. Player Created Mods/Addons: 2/10 Little player support here in the way of modding capabilities. Ubisoft has ignored players' requests to include SDK (which would allow much expanded player modding capabilities) and the most people can do is make new maps for multiplayer. Final Comments: I would NOT recommend this game. Most gamers (especially those who enjoyed Far Cry 1) would be severely disappointed with the outcome and gameplay of Far Cry 2. Why do old games with horrible graphics but incredible gameplay (such as Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life 2) remain popular even today? The uniqueness of their gameplay overshadows their lack of graphical detail. Although this game has excellent graphics, a very realistic world, and open choice in gameplay, the repetition and slightly problematic AI for single player causes this game to go down under. Expand

I kept doing missions for opposing factions, and they didn't seem to care. At one point a buddy offered me a way to complete a mission that was exactly what my quest giver told me not to do. dont even get me started with the mp that will be later, i bought the game for the sp and it was bad. i played ti for a few years on the console and it was terrible, bad controls too. but anyways what ruined the game fr me was it was forced on the player to be frustrating and unforgiving. like how cars go 40 mph max speed yet when an enemy chases you they can instantly catch yp to you from 200 feet away.

Or how the cars in the game break down CONSTANTLY, travling is a joke becuase i have to stop what im doing to clear an annoying checkpoint and ti will respawn when i go 500 feet away as the respawing is distance related) becuase the cars arnt reliable enough or fast enough that i can just travel through them. and then you can have your vehicle disabled becuase the enemies shot your body of the truck, not nessacirly the engine to be damaged. the game is repetitve and forces combat when i dont want to and thats why its hard to play. it has nothing to do with skill or tactics.

it would have been an 9/10 game if 1, vehicles didnt slow down to 5mph when someone shoots a few bullets in ANYWHERE on your car, and then chases you and instantly catches up when your 100 feet away somehow. they made the ai always catch yp, and they're terrible drivers anyways, they always crash intro trees and bridge walls when there pursuing. and the checkpoints shouldnt respawn when you go 5 mnutes away (really annoying when i killed a patrol car and it respawns while im driving its vehcile i stole from it in the first place.

really the game needed some sort of companion like fallout. i should be able to have a buddy (when my history is high enough) to travel with me and they can man guns and make the game a whole lot smoother. the rep system should also decrease the chance of getting chaced too, but everything was so poorly implemented in this game thats why i no longer play it, fallout is a much more advanced open world game and its much better. this game is just a poorly developed (but shockiling buietifull game) .

i tried to like it but let me tell you abut the MP

ITS AWEFULL, no weapon balence either, today i lit a guy on fire and was circle flanking him for a good 3 seconds of pure incinerary combat, and somehow he lived but died later though. and he didnt have the "shield" of invulnerability on him either. yes you are INVINCIPAL for 5 seconds or so whenyou spawn, which ruined an earlier match when i was capturing the last control point in uprising when i unloaded on him with ar15, but he had a "shield on so he killed me, and they advanced and took all the points, so i retreated when i got an mp5 and unloaded a whole clip in one guy in my base, a whole clip yes and he killed me with a few ar 15 rounds.

the mp was the same on the console, since its so trashy they could have focysed n better sp and a better developed mechanics.

sorry for typing my hands are stiff

Sadly, it just doesn't work in the long-term. I made the mistake of marathoning this game. And that's just not what it was designed for. In order to get past the constant annoyances, respawning threats, and repetitive criss-crossing of the same space, you need to keep putting it down and coming back to it every few days. It promises that you can get lost in its world...but then takes every opportunity to frustrate you when you actually try to do just that. For a particular kind of schedule, it could be perfect. For mine, It never has been.

So I say to give this one a pass. Carry on to the excellent sequels, and be happy.

After a while, a crucial item appears and indicates one of the reasons why the main character in Far Cry 2 is not like the others. It is malaria, a disease that greatly disturbs the protagonist (and the player) throughout the plot. The race for remedies is occasionally performed through connections with Underground, the only group of people who have links to medical resources.

Learning little by little about the plot, the gamer soon discovers that there is a side "Blood Diamond" (feature film with actor Leonardo DiCaprio) in the game. There are some critics and players who risk affirm that there are also strong characteristics of the Grand Theft Auto series in the continuation of Far Cry, as the character acts most of the time as a mercenary and is capable of causing destruction monstrous.

Far Cry 2 is for those people q ve just want the circus catch fire EX: Burning, destroying and killing are three of the many pillars that the game offers with regard to the action first-person perspective.

Unfortunately, the game is just that. As the missions are clichés, the plot is weak and there is an incredible amount of graphics problems, you can not classify Far Cry 2 as a conquering game. It can be said that there are a number of innovations in the dynamics of the title, but the potential is exploited precariously, to the misfortune of the fans.

The graphics are reasonable with constant rendering errors and happens a lot to see u defined surfaces and objects initially in a way, and a few meters away, changed completely.

Weapons explode a box can cause the shooting interestingly projectiles. The way fire spreads by vegetation causes a curious effect. But the fire itself - much like water - it's no wonder the virtual nature. The format of some bodies of animals and people is intriguing to a first contact, but the interaction with them is enraivecedora.

The game is repetitive wanting to make u to stop playing and never return to it, Far Cry 2 is a reasonable play, because the amount of technical problems is annoying and considerably hinders the gameplay, since the visuals should be the innovation game. There are few differences between the versions of the consoles and the PC

    2) A good physics of weapons. The weapon is really felt and not to distinguish between different types of weapons is impossible not only because of the appearance, but also because of the control of these weapons.
    3) Good artificial intelligence. Your enemies do not bar through, trying to take a number. They try to bypass you from different sides, attacking both from afar and close up.
    4) Decent management, both character and machine.
    Disadvantages:
    1) The plot. Developers are trying to tell you a story, but do it as crookedly as possible. Although the idea with different groupings is not bad, the fact that both groups have to help, spoils the perception of history, since it makes no sense to help both groups.
    2) Characters. The protagonist is a silent weapon for the destruction of computer models. His character and motives are not disclosed. The same with other characters. They just are, and they just do what they do. Why? What for? The developers did not want to explain.
    3) Although I understand that the action of the game takes place in the savannah, but I think that the picture could have been made more juicy and diverse.
    4) Awfully boring gameplay. Firstly, 70% of the whole game you will ride on the map, which is terribly tiring and makes the game boring and routine. Secondly, the remaining 30% is a sweep of the territory. You come to the point, kill everyone, fulfill the purpose of the visit and leave. Everything.
    5) Outposts can be written into individual cons. No matter how you try to clear them, which is a boring task in itself, so also the enemies with whom you figured out 5 minutes ago are being revived on the same outpost after these same 5 minutes.

You play as a random dude with military background, that is all you know about him and that is all you will get to know about him. That would be okay if you could Role play, but you cannot because the story is very linear.
Missions are repetitive and uninspired, go here kill this camp, go here kill this guy, go here destroy this and you know the rest.
Very early in the game you get access to "Buddies" which in my opinion do absolutely nothing of value. You can be on a main mission, you get a call of your buddy.
    - Buddy: "Hey come here 200 km away from the missions i have something to tell you"
    - Me: "We are talking on the phone, you can tell me here"
    - Buddy: " Nah man" -call ended-
Okay cool, I will drive to his safe house (there is no functional fast travel btw). Buddy lets me know there is more ways to complete this mission, okay cool, go here threat this guy, then go to this place. To my surprise this is the second time im doing this mission, first without buddy second with it. It was very different. The first time, no problem killed the guys and completed the missions in 20 minutes or so. With buddy drove around 40 minutes, went to way too many places, killed platoons of goons, died 4 times. What a mess.
Driving is a big part of the game, its a somewhat enjoyable experience... If you were not assaulted every 5 minutes by goons. Oh and you cannot outrun them, you will need to get out of your vehicle and kill them. Imagine this several times on a very long travel, it gets very ridiculous.

Combat is good, the gun play is solid and enjoyable.
Guns are cool looking and feel nice.
Fire and explosions are properly done.

Story, ehh... Well it feels like there is none. Run around being attacked every 5 minutes by the same goons over and over again until you reach your mission point. Go here do that come back, avoid your buddy like a plague and stock up on explosives.

    Conclusion:
This game is not a bad game by any means, the open world while pretty and somewhat interesting even in 2020 it feels void of any realism because you get attacked every 5 minutes. The driving feels nice but lets remind this is not a driving game. Combat and shooting mechanics are good and solid but are not enough to justify spending your time here.

[Avoid IF] - You like story focused games, you enjoy peaceful exploration, you get bored easily with repetitive quests.

[Get IF] - You are a dying fan of Far Cry, you just want a sandbox to shoot people.

    Final Score: 5 -AVERAGE
You are not missing much with skipping this one, it's a lengthy game with much of it being very repetitive and frustrating, however it does have a very solid gun play even at 2020.

What the game probably lacks the most is the story. The number one had it and it was great, but unfortunately it is not much here and you wonder how not it is? The point is that cut-scenes are minimal here. Nothing that would draw you into a game with a real movie. Besides, your character doesn't even talk, which doesn't help the story much either. Furthermore, it will not please repetitive missions too much, which would not bother you anyway. Personally, I don't mind repetitive missions, but you will perform them here without just getting a film, as I mentioned. What bothered me most about the game were probably the mechanics that the developers added here. I understand that they tried to make the game more realistic, but I think it was rather harmful. For example, weapons that get stuck in the middle of a shootout or medicine for malaria, where our main character starts to get sick and you have to get the medicine that you get again with those repetitive missions. So that I still don't criticize the game, I praise the environment. Although I would immediately return to the island from number one, but Africa was not bad at all and especially the part in the desert was luxurious and it is a pity that there are no more such film and, say, more story parts in the game. I also liked the modification of weapons, where you can decently improve your arsenal compared to the previous part, and overall you have a greater choice of weapons. Unfortunately, that's about all I could praise in the game. As I mentioned in this review, the game does not have a bad rating at all, so I think you might like it. But for me, this is an average shooter that I would not recommend. Expand

Open world was a horrible choice, and the main plot is retarded. The only thing this game is good for is for a quick 30 minutes of stress relief consisting of driving around running people over, which by far is the most efficient way to kill (and fortunately these African rebels are somehow all equipped with military jeeps with unlimited ammo for the mounted gun). The fire is neato at first, but it burns out too quickly - they just didn't go far enough with this game. I don't know why they called it Far Cry -- it has nothing whatsoever to do with the original, which, despite corny plot and voice acting, was a masterpiece compared to this piece of s***. Also, I think it was a huge mistake to go for the M rating on this game - it appeals to the 10-12 yo demographic. My 12 year old brother loved it! If you are looking for an open world game with great AI, try STALKER or STALKER Clear Sky (be sure to quick-save, because you don't have a "buddy" to wipe your @$$ in STALKER). Wait til FarCry2 goes on sale for $10 before you waste your money. You can liken this game to the whole sand box type games like GTA series. There are main quests to complete but many side quests to gain extra money, better weapons, vehicles, etc. That being said, this game is an overwhelming disappointment. For all the hype about choosing your method of approach or attack, it amounts to nothing. So what if you can burn anything and an explosion will attract enemies to one location, it doesn't matter when you are fighting the same respawned enemies hundreds of times because you are crossing the same guard post area to get to a different part of the map. Graphics for environments look really good but that doesn't make a game. I have never been one to really care about a storyline and good thing too because this one is horrible. As for kills, I am playing at the next to highest difficulty and the only gun I find worth it to kill enemies is the sniper rifle. The autmoatics are worthless since it requires one full clip per enemy (although there are many to choose from). Enemy AI is variable. Some have marksman type shooting when they fire at you with a SMG from across the map but you couldn't do the same if you tried. AI in others is almost nonexistent as I have had enemies literally run up beside me and look around for me while I just turn and empty a bullet into their head point blank. There is no explanation of what upgrades do, what new weapons offer, or why I should buy a damn vehicle manual when I can still repair the shot up cars myself! The point, save your money, this is a boringly repetitive game that I find myself playing to pass the time until L4D comes out. You can save $50 and just spend it on L4D instead. Expand

AI: Likes to get shot while driving cars, will relentlessly follow you until they are dead. Will show blood and then a few seconds later like a bad Uwe Bowl movie will react to being shot. This is quite comical as they will pick a random direction to jump backwards into to die and ultimately looks like bad acting. Story: Your in Africa and everyone wants to shoot you. You meet people who like making you drive endlessly for ridiculously long periods of time, eventually you get sick of barking like a dog for them and you WILL kill them. A new guy will then replace the last guy you killed who will suffer the same fate. You rescue people throughout the game and are rewarded by them by extending your missions and having you drive even further, they too die but only occasionally do you get to be the one to pull the trigger. In the console ports you are given special abilities, in this game you are given malaria... This is annoying as you need medication throughout the game, to get this you have to drive to town to pick up passports then you have to drive an average of 20 minutes to another location to pick up 1 - 2 pill. This is not remotely fun. Physics: My god bad, a two car collision on a Q6600 6gb DDR2 800, Geforce 8800GTS 640 will reduce the frame rate to 0.1fps from 60. This is unforgivable. Graphics: Very good, things look very realistic. Are however quite dull and lack color and variety. Environment: Rivers are lifeless, forests are lifeless but ironically the deserts have both zebras and ox. There are occasionally insects. Weapons: Good variety, ultimate I hate all of them. You have to constantly replace guns as they frequently. Accuracy sucks on all of them, machine guns are honestly less effective then the pistols and constantly want to fire in the air and will not let you counteract that movement. To get weapons that will jam slightly less often you have to complete extra missions to unlock weapons you can buy. There are very few weapon locations and they are very far away from any mission. Transportation: This absolutely ruins this game, nothing about it is even remotely fun. You drive around and get shot at frequently which forces you to get out of the car and fix your vehicle while being shot at. If you accidentally get to the edge of the map your car will be taken from you and you will be forced to walk potentially kilometers to the nearest road. Missions will force you to go to the far edges of the map EVERY time and then return to the center EVERY time. We get it, it's big. Gliders will result in your death, do not use these. Larger boats WILL get suck and you WILL have to swim far, avoid these also. They have 5 bus terminals in each map strategically placed as far away from any mission as possible still, they can save time. Conclusion: This entire game felt like work, I just hate it. Do not buy this game, do not endorse this crap. Expand

And the introduction of malaria is possibly one of the laziest gameplay dynamics I've seen in a while - it restricts your ability to properly explore the 'open' landscape unabated. The original wasn't a fantastic game by any definition, but it was fun and it did allow for pseudo non-linear gameplay. This forgets the fun and fails to improve anything the original offered. Ubisoft is consistently making very pretty games that are failing on the game play front. The graphics are not bad, they make up for lower-poly models (console port) with lovely DX10 shaders. Likewise the fire propagation and realistic day-night cycle is wonderfully done, and capturing the sense of Africa is absolutely spot-on (Lived there for 14 years). Also Combat is also done well, and Ubisoft is consistently making very pretty games that are failing on the game play front. Also Combat is also done well, and the jamming and healing animations are pretty facking sweet. Otherwise, everything else just screams port. The story has some thought in it, but feels thrown together with the unnaturally sped-up dialogue. The open world is fun, until you realize that you'll be shooting through the same checkpoints quite literally hundreds of times, making combat extraordinarily repetitive. The fabled destructability is so-so, nowhere near the level you'll see in Crysis (again, console port). There are factions, but they're not tied to any checkpoints... so the story ends up doing one factions missions until finished, then repeat ad nauseum. Ubisoft evidently tried to add some staying power with GTA-esque collectibles and small side missions, although they are no where near the quality shown in GTA. Unlocking guns means doing the exact same mission 8 times, albeit in different parts of the map. Multiplayer is practically a joke, the interface was obviously designed for the console community. And if multiplayer is a joke, who will bother with the map editor no matter how well it has been done? In conclusion, Far Cry 2 was a fun experiment in open-world first person shooters but reeks firmly of being thought out for console, and then brought over to the PC for maximized profits. Expand

The game makes you travel between locations to achieve a mission update. So you will pass by checkpoints and strongholds numerous times in order to get to certain target zones. Here lies the problem...

The way enemies respawn is distance based, not time-based- thus it is totally unrealistic, annoying, and multiplies the difficulty of the game. For example: you will approach many checkpoints in the game during your travels. You will see the enemies goofing off, tying their shoelaces or smoking a cig which apparently gives you the initial element of surprise. You attack the checkpoint, killing the first guy and INSTANTLY after that, the remaining enemies make the experience as difficult as they can for you. You take some damage, but kill every last enemy in the place with your machine gun. You just torched the cp with Molotov's and blew the place up with grenades. Now, if you leave the area and turn the corner, then suddenly realize you are heading the wrong direction and need to turn back... guess what? The enemies have come back to life. Even more unrealistic, they will be goofing off again, tying their shoelaces and smoking a cig. There will be no sign of your previous battle anywhere. You will have to fight them all over again in order to continue. How realistic is that? Respawns will occur and there is no limit. So if you take the same path from your mission giver, to the target zone, and back- you will engage every CP and roaming patrol along your path at least twice. They will be the same exact enemies again and again, tedious and boring. I've tried the stealth approach as well, by crouching and slowly advancing through bushes and stuff. It is so boring and sometimes a sniper starts shooting at you from hundreds of yards away so you take damage anyway. Some areas cannot be passed by using stealth, so you are forced to attack or take tons of damage.

It seems everything I did was absolutely useless and has no effect in the world. I almost got though act 1 in this game. But after killing the same guys in the same checkpoints 2, 3 times for each mission it became very mundane. It would not have been difficult to implement at least a 24-hour respawn timer but the developer didn't. I still remember how confused I was after completing the first mission. I had just wiped out an entire camp enemies about 8 guys, fought them tooth and nail for about 3, 4 minutes. I went back to the mission giver and completed the mission. I get the next target zone for my next mission, and realize after looking at the map, that the area I had just cleared was one of two potential paths to take even though it was a slightly longer distance. Since I had killed everyone earlier, I thought it wouldn't be a problem to take that path since it was safe. I didn't even get 10 feet into the camp before I was shredded by a hail of gunfire. Game over. That was my first impression of the game and it still is.

The AI sucks big time. The enemy has x-ray vision making any kind of stealth play impossible. You spend time sneaking up on your target then kill him with a silenced weapon or your machete but be ready for instant mayhem. Everyone knows what you did and where you are. Run for your life. Shoot someone from a distance and the enemy knows exactly where you are. The enemy can see through dense foliage, walls and rocks. Run for your life. You can watch an enemy look and fire in the opposite direction from you but you will still get hit. It's quite hilarious!

Forget about a story line, there isn't one. You just go on missions and kill everyone you see, or run for your life. There are no other options. Try to kill the Jackal? No way. It's a bogus story ploy. Try to help your friends that you've collected through the game. No way. The developers have higher goals for you. Be careful they have a political agenda.

However the AI is rather weak, and there are so many glitches I had to quit the game twice for a while. One mission I spent 2 hours trying to get through a door which wouldn't open, and another I was supposed to talk to someone that wasn't there.
My original plan was to stealth the game. Travel at night, silenced weapons and scouting camp sites. But it is a while before you get all silenced weapons, and the camo suit, and once you do have it, the dodgy AI makes stealthing too awkward to do.

The Buddy System was a cool idea, only let down by the AI and the character use limitations. The game is extremely repetitive, and any choices you are given seem meaningless.

The best Far Cry experience I've had is Instincts, which has a far more interesting story and much more exciting stealth elements.

That's where the happy fun time ends. The game has about 6 different mission types. All of them basically include killing everyone, searching for diamonds, and getting diamonds for killing everyone. Let's start with the good: the graphics. This is the only decent thing about this game. The environments looks nice all around but even this quickly loses its appeal after while since there's not much to look at. It's mostly sparse landscapes. It looks nice but also boring. The character model's faces are also lacking in detail. Now the bad: everything else. The audio in this game is poorly done. The weapons sound cheap and unconvincing. The vehicles have this little hum when driving. The characters' voices can be hard to hear sometimes and they usually talk pretty fast. There is no depth or range to the sound. I can't tell if someone is talking 5 feet away or 50 feet away. There are no options to individually adjust voice or sound effect volumes. Music can't be adjusted either. You can only turn it on or off. The AI in this game is atrocious. They will usually try to flank you but it's pointless since they all have eagle eye vision and auto-aim and can hit you from a mile away with no problem. Sometimes the AI will get stuck and they'll be facing another direction when you're right in front of them. The AI automatically senses when you get into a vehicle and starts firing at you so if you can't see where that enemy has run off to just get into a car and they'll start shooting at you. The gameplay is the worst part. It's just awful. EVERYONE will shoot you on sight. It doesn't matter which faction you do missions for. Their guys won't help you since you're "undercover". The enemies take an excessive amount of damage. You have to shoot them so many times to kill them. The turret in this game is crap. It's severely underpowered and actually takes longer to kill the enemies than your own weapons do unless they're right in your face. Seriously. If you try and stay at a distance to take out the guardposts with a turret it will take forever to kill them while they will have no problem shooting you. 75% of the game is you driving around from point A to point B and it's usually from one end of the map to the other. Then there are the guardposts with the respawning enemies. This is undoubtedly the most annoying part of the game. If you kill the enemies and then go a certain distance and then return to that guardpost the enemies all respawn even if you killed them 2 minutes ago. There's no point in wasting time using stealth or trying to be clever since they just respawn and you have to kill them again on your way back. They make it so it's impossible to go around most of these checkpoints. You can't just blow past them in a vehicle either because they will get in their vehicle and chase you and they will ALWAYS catch up to you because the game cheats. I've tested this and they get this turbo speed boost to catch you. You have no choice but to stop and shoot them. There's also constant vehicle patrols all over the place. They'll either shoot you if there's a guy on the turret or tail and ram you forever until you stop and kill them.

The gameplay is extremely repetitive. All you do is drive around the map performing missions by killing someone or blowing something up. That's it. Ubisoft did this exact same thing with Assassin's Creed. Go from point A to point B, kill someone, rinse and repeat. It's obvious they do not know how to make a fun game and I don't have much hope for Far Cry 3. Then they threw in various gameplay elements like weapons jamming, fixing cars, and you having malaria and needing to constantly take medicine, to try and make it realistic but all it does is annoy you. If you pick up an enemy's weapon it will be in a degraded state. Very quickly the weapon will jam and you have to press reload to fix it. But when the enemy uses their gun it never jams on them. Only you. How is that realistic? So the only point is to piss you off. If your car gets shot up it will start smoking and you will have to fix it. The animation consists of you turning a bolt with a wrench. Yes that's how it gets fixed. Just like in real life. The malaria thing is dumb and adds nothing to the game except to irritate you. Try having a malaria attack while your gun jams on you and your car is smoking while a bunch of auto-aiming enemies are around you. See how fun that is.

The game suffers from numerous glitches. I had an enemy floating in the air and then dropping and dying and alerting his friends. There are audio problems like no sound or subtitles when answering the phone. The game will crash periodically. The gameplay is repetitive and annoying. It's not even an average game. It's a below average mess. Save your money. It's a huge letdown.

This is my second review of Far Cry 2. OK. What's the point of reviewing such an old game? I don't know. But I've been playing it recently, and plugged in a lot of time, and I find this to be a really bad video game. I hate criticizing art, but this is not an enjoyable game. First person shooter games should be fun. This is not.

1 - IT'S EXTREMELY REPETITIVE. Even on easy mode you will keep dying, and dying. You have to cheat to keep yourself alive. They make it so you have to keep doing things over, and over again. There is no rest, or safe spots. The enemies just keep coming at you, and following you around.

2 - WHY DO I HAVE INCURABLE MALARIA? They keep sending you on malaria medicine missions. You don't just get the malaria pills once, or twice, and that's it. You are constantly sick, and have to keep finding malaria pills. This is just stupid.

3 - YOUR CHARACTER IS A WEAKLING. I can literally run further in real life. Your character gets winded so easily in a few seconds. What's the point of running if you can't run? I can't run!

4 - TRAVELING IS A PAIN. There is no fast travel. You can get in cars, but guess what? There are obstacles constantly in your way. Enemies will appear from nowhere, and shoot your vehicle, and then it will break down. And you have to kill everyone, and do repairs. Or your car will explode. Getting anywhere is a huge pain.

5 - YOU GET STUCK. Because of the messy terrain there are so many parts where you get stuck. Your vehicle gets stuck, you get stuck, something gets stuck. This should not be the case. I shouldn't get jammed up because a small rock is in my way. The character ideally should walk over these without any trouble. But that isn't the case.

5 - DUMB MAP SYSTEM. You have to constantly pull up your map, and it goes in, and out, and gets in your view. Why not have a little map in the corner? Or a compass? I don't know, something that doesn't block your way all the time would be great. And if you're going to have the map, why does half of it disappear when I'm running? That's when I want to see the map. Anyway, the map system just sucks.

6 - DUMB QUEST SYSTEM. Again with the repetition. Any time I want a new mission I have to travel so far. Go here, and go there to be granted missions. Why can't I just go to someone, and get a bunch of missions? Each time I have to refresh.

7 - LACKLUSTER CONTROLS - Some things should be automatic, or a button click should lead to the next thing. The controls while not the worst just aren't great. For example, when I'm holding the map, if I click my 'fire' button nothing happens. I stay in map mode, until I click the map button. When you're being shot at having to do this is not so great! How about when I'm at a door? I have press the 'E' button. Just let me press the left mouse button to get in. A hand appears letting me know what I can do, so it should switch over. Less buttons, and redundant clicking would be better.

8 - UGLY SETTING. The world is ugly, and plain. There's not much to look at it. Everywhere looks the same. It's just endless garbage.

9 - MEDIOCRE STORY TELLING. You're a mercenary, or something like that, and you go around killing people for acts of revenge, or to stop one of the factions from getting ahead. That's pretty much the deepest you'll get as far as story is concerned.

10 - STOP WITH THE GUN JAMMING. In real life weapons don't jam this easily. And if my guns must jam, then let me keep clicking the left mouse button to un-jam it. Why make me press another button?

11 - THERE ARE NO 'BOSS BATTLES.' It's just one mission to the next, with no graduation, or leaps. You know, a video game should be like a roller coaster, working its way up, and then at the top you have the exciting part next (i.e. the race down).

12 - CRAP ACCURACY - When you shoot it's like what's going on? Even if you're fairly on point, unless you zoom, you keep missing, and these guys just don't die.

13 - CRAP AI - I can't sneak around, or do anything right. They always know where I am, and they all come out of the woodwork right away. They shoot for no reason. How do they know who I am each time, and my precise location?

14 - WHERE'S THE MUSIC? There's barely any music. The mood is flat for almost the whole game. Give us the option of music, even if it's not that great.

15 - THE EASY MODE IS NOT EASY. Why does this exist? Easy Mode is still hard a.f.

Everything looks so blurred and washed out that I have to concentrate to see enemies. The first part of the Far Cry Series was colorful and beautiful and comparing them ignoring they are 4 years a part from each other the textures are obviously better, but the coloring is just unbearable. Also comparing Far Cry 2 to games being released in the same year such as GTA IV, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead it is not on the same production level. But gameplay wise Far Cry 2 made a huge leap forward compared to Far Cry 1, finally there is stuff to do apart from the main storyline.

I would go as far as saying that Far Cry 2 is the worst Far Cry from a series of colorful games. Far Cry 1 had beautiful graphics and boring gameplay, Far Cry 2 has good gameplay and unpleasing graphics. Far Cry 3 than combined both and the series lived up to its full potential, so I would rather recommend you to play either Far Cry 1 to see where the series once started or Far Cry 3 to see it being perfected.

How expected. - Cliched autonavigation intro that every FPS since Half-Life always seems to use... - Glowing Weapons and Ammo: Immersion please? - Console-Style save system - You spend more time driving than playing as a shooter - Inability to focus clearly on visual details while driving/being cabbed - Character Portraits copy each other in look and pose - No women in the Farcry2 Universe - Over-sensitized in-game mouse speed relative to the menu sensitivity - Overall Conceptual Ripoff of the film "Blood Diamond" - Not to mention SecuROM - I could go on, but why bother? The best part of the game was in the first few minutes, before you even take control over your character, while you're on a car driven by a guide through the wilderness and villages. It was the time when I thought "oh wow this game seems to be really amazing", and the only time. It's more repetitive than the other overly hyped bad games such as GTA4 and Assassin's Creed, and that's saying alot. Whatever decisions you make don't make any differences, your "buddies" are nothing more than a name on the screen and different model with bad voice "acting". I'm giving it a 3 because there are a few innovative features such as fire propagation and the whole "immersion" idea, the game felt more like a ridiculously long and boring tech demo. Don't even begin to compare this game with Crysis, I rated Crysis 6 for being an intense shooter, amazing graphics, and some form of storyline. This game fails to deliver any of that, which is already the new low for how games should be rated. Jees, last time I completed an fps without having to think "oh god I have to finish it or I'll feel like I've wasted my money" was probably Bioshock and Half life 2 (and not the extended rip off ones). The stealth system in the game is almost non-existant (enemies can see you 2 miles away hiding behind about a dozen trees). What really killed it for me though was the fact that enemies- even guys dressed in nothing but shorts and a ranger hat will take 15-30 rounds from a high powered automatic rifle to kill, slowing action and making it seem more like i was trying to kill a tank in each gunfight. i could go on about the issues this game has, repetitive misions, bad ending with player forced to do things contrary to the whole story's original purpose, no point to really visit alot of areas other than pick up a diamond or two, etc etc. ask almost anyone who owns this game what they think of it as a whole and i'll guarantee you they'll suggest it's tedious, miserable, and most deinitely not worth your money. i've lost all trust in ubisoft after they released this, the purpose of games is to entertain, i wasn't entertained, i ended up screaming at the TV and contempleting throwing the far cry 2 disc into my microwave. if you haven't bought this game yet already, then don't, its an abomination Expand

Combat is thrilling – each weapon packing a solid, vicious blast; movement suggesting heft and momentum. [Dec 2008, p.80]
  2. By adopting a laissez faire attitude to player discretion, Ubisoft has crafted a brilliant follow-up.

More importantly, it has nowhere near as many bugs as something like "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl," a title that bears many similarities. Add to the roughly 25 hour single-player campaign a remarkably easy-to-use map creation tool and a full multiplayer suite, and you've got one of the most complete overall gaming packages of the year, as well as one of the most ambitious.
