    Incredibly dull and repetetive. Instead of feeling like you're looking forward to a fight every time the same land rover appears with the same troops in yet again all you think is, "damn, I'm going to waste ammo and damage my weapon and get nothing for it". Add to this that every mission seems to send you to the 4 corners of the map and you have a recipe for disaster. I feel as though theIncredibly dull and repetetive.     The multiplayer is fun, but extremely buggy with regard to consistency. It's not unstable-buggy (that is, if you can manage to join a server without being kicked with some cryptic error message). I have been banned numerous times because people thought I was cheating, when on the advantageous side of this flaw. It's like the developers really didn't spend much time playing their own game online. It may take a while to realize that you're not playing a bunch of cheaters, but rather the game is super-buggy that way. (and you may be banned by people who haven't figured that out yet) But when the game isn't bending reality in inconsistent ways, the multiplayer experience can be really fun.… Expand

    I wanted to like this game i really did, Everything about it is great, except the part where you drive... and drive... and drive... it just gets reeeallly tiresome after a while, getting quests, not feeling like your making progress and driving 10Km across the map to shoot a few guys.     I was disappointed with farcry 2, more than impressed by it. The graphics and physics in the world are admirable. It looks and feels very realistic. The virtually completely open world style is unique but fails during the implementation. The story is a bit interesting and realistic feeling but your character has absolutely no personality, or choices within the world, such that i cannotI was disappointed with farcry 2, more than impressed by it. The checkpoints re-spawn quickly once you pass them so you fight the same battles over and over, and over. The story sends you randomly all over the world and several times to the same locations with fully re-spawned enemies, so there is a LOT of repetition. Five stars, for an overall ok game, a plus one for an acceptable field of view that made it playable for me.… Expand

    aint that good, aint that bad. just loved the free roam thingy and environment. car seems to have too precise handling though (really!? offroad driving is better than onroad? unrealistic but acceptable). the game is too lonely, it is like you vs whole africa. buddies dont help that much, very minimum appearance in fighting. its always me that had to watch out for their asses. storyline?aint that good, aint that bad. just loved the free roam thingy and environment. car seems to have too precise handling though (really!? offroad driving is better than onroad? unrealistic but acceptable). the game is too lonely, it is like you vs whole africa. buddies dont help that much, very minimum appearance in fighting. its always me that had to watch out for their asses. storyline? ok i guess. combined with my imaginations (like im a special forces commando, parachuting out in the middle of africa to do top tier missions, or kick everyone's asses, dicks, and everything nice!) the storyline progress is not exciting but not enough to overbored me, still boring though. i dunno if you guys noticed but most automatic weapons have crappy sound effect. like ak47, i shot just and only one bullet, but the sound effect indicates two shots, HUD display indicates one shot. i thing its just looping around. i also love being stealth, cause its so easy as the enemy didnt finish their preschool (maybe AI is scripted "do not shoot the player if he is ducking in grass, even if you can see them clearly, cause he is taking a **** in that case they do finish preschool but the script maker didnt went at all). good idea on enemy outposts, but after 30 minute, it is getting very annoying. anyways, still playing it though cause newer games are also crappier than ever. thanks A LOT ubisoft.

    This is where Far Cry got good with the shooting/healing mechanics, but got bad with some game grindy game design. The fire fight were loads of fun and I was constantly crapping myself when my weapon jammed. So that fun mechanic upped the tension ante. I really enjoyed the healing system animations and the buddy system that helped you when things went to crap. I really didn't mind hunt the diamond mini game across the large sprawling maps. it was a lot of fun in most cases and the diamonds was need to buy the better weapon load outs.

    The annoying parts was when enemies would respawn at road side check points next time you drove through. Driving to and from mission took a lot of time. To point it felt like unnecessary padding how far the mission brief was from the actual mission objective, Game felt to long and the all or nothing storyline was groan worthy and as if you would do that to yourself ( no spoilers ). I felt I had only one really sane logical choice at the end. Missions and activities turned out to be a lot of copy/paste of repetitive grind. I personally enjoyed this to point I replayed it three times, but I can still admit and see it's major flaws no problem.    … Expand

    Overall Farcry 2 is just a decent game, but after a while a got bored. What I liked: - graphic and stunning visuals - game atmosphere - vehicles (boats, warfare cars...)     Far Cry 2, or: Assassin's Creed in Africa. The worlds are amazing, look great and contain tons of detail that are definitely memorable. But, like Assassin's Creed, the missions are downright simple, shallow to the point of being annoying and the overall storyline is so unbelievable that it offers little in the way of redeeming the "A to B, kill at C" missions that are all Far Far Cry 2, or: Assassin's Creed in Africa. The worlds are amazing, look great and contain tons of detail that are definitely memorable. But, like Assassin's Creed, the missions are downright simple, shallow to the point of being annoying and the overall storyline is so unbelievable that it offers little in the way of redeeming the "A to B, kill at C" missions that are all Far Cry 2 has to offer. Ubisoft Montreal has mastered the technical side of making virtual worlds, but sadly still lacks the ability to turn them into a memorable story.… Expand

    Far cry 2 was pretty decent. if you have the privilege of enjoying the game in dx10 and all very high settings, then you will be breath taken by the scenery. If they only made the waterfalls better, added more animals and underwater visuals this game could trick you into thinking your actually in a desert/jungle. Game play was alright. The side missions were god awful repetitive. Also, the ability to cut across a river is sometimes useless. Many of times i jumped into a river to cut across and save time only to find myself swimming a mile down the river to find a piece of land that will allow me to come up onto shore. But i have yet to find a game that didn't have little things that aggravated me. All in all i recommend this game. Even though it could have been way better, It still was a good experience.… Expand

In their(ubisoft montreal) attempt to make a game thats non-linear with freedom to go where you want etc, they got the open world map bit right at least. But This game starts out strong, you really think its all that for at least an hour or two(or at least I did). Then reality kicks in and declares war on denial. Denial struggles briefly before being overwhelmed by realitys awesome facts. In their(ubisoft montreal) attempt to make a game thats non-linear with freedom to go where you want etc, they got the open world map bit right at least. But after the n-teenth time you have to consume an outpost in a glorious sexplosion of fire and bullets, just to get to the corner store 50 metres down the road in your JeepTM(shudder) you start to wonder why they bothered. You cant move without something shooting at you, as the AI is retarded in the way only a enraged animal could compare, attacking with no reason or motive other than, I can see you, die. Actuallly they dont even need to see you, or have line of site to know where you are, wow! So for all the fantastic scenery in the 50km/2 area you have to explore, its kinda like not seeing the forest for the trees, or in this case the ALWAYS aggressive npcs. This is a shame beyond measure, when placed in comparison to competing titles like fallout3, a world filled with detail and lore that gives more immersion then even the very best graphics can make up for. Theres nothing worth exploring in farcry 2, cause theres nothing to find, its just a dead landscape that provides nothing more then obstacle you have to traverse to get to you next killing field(missions), peppered with npcs you have to kill on the way. Over the course of playing, you will either be given or earn access to this conjealed mess of game devices that offer no real differentiation from one another. Oh, bar the self propagating yet self extinguishing fire. What point is there to getting an upgraded hunting/sniper rifle if the one you already have will kill in a single shot and is fantasticly accurate? And the faux rpg elements of providing stats for weapons, that have no real bearing on the actual performance of said firearm. Pistols more accurate then assualt rifles? Yep sure thing. If you love shooters and care not for depth or feeling, then this title is probably for you. But if it takes more then pretty explosions and mindless killing to keep you interested steer clear of this one.… Expand

Unlike a traditional straightforward first-player shooter such as the Call of Duty series, the game will allow you to approach each enemy differently depending on the weapons and your individual style. I also like the strict first-person view through the entire game. From shooting enemies to reviving allies to performing surgery on yourself, the camera focuses on how your individual character would act. However, there are MANY flaws in the AI: first, they respawn much to fast to be realistic. (Walk/Drive away from an outpost and come back and fresh troops will replace the ones you just killed minutes ago.) Second, the AI's ammunition isn't realistically consistent. (Keep an enemy with a mortar alive and he'll keep firing shells even past pounding a mile-deep crater into the ground.) Third, the AI takes way too many bullets to kill. (8 AK-47 rounds to kill a guy without a shirt on.) There are many other first-person actions that are very much simplified (like checking ammo in a clip and repetitive stabbing motions with the machete), but those would only be the icing on the cake here. Graphics/Animation: 10/10 Some of the most realistic I've ever seen in a game. With the graphics setting on your computer turned up to the highest, the fire blazes very realistically and the sun's glare catches you when staring directly at it. The AI doesn't seem to have a leg or arm sticking out in a random place, so that helps. Only fault here is the tremendous amount of computer power required to run the game at full graphics quality, but this is a necessity for all high-end PC games. Sounds/Acting: 3/10 The sounds of the game are horrible. What little music there is happens to be completely boring (and much too quiet!) and only makes the game less appealing as a FPS. The only positive here is the action music, which will make your heartbeat race during an intense firefight. The game's voice acting is absolutely horrendous. The actors make no breaks in speaking and do not sound the least bit realistic, especially for a game that strives on realism and higher quality. The game is also very serious and humorless, and even the jokes that the actors make are overshadowed by the darkness and bleakness of their surroundings. Replay Value: 1/10 Absolutely NO replay value whatsoever. At the beginning you have a choice of many different characters, but the choices you make don't affect the missions/gameplay that you end up with. Also, the missions you can perform are very tedious and repetitive. Assaulting an outpost or area becomes the same, over and over, killing enemies or destroying a target or talking to an NPC. Essentially, this becomes the backbone of the game, and absolutely kills the replay value. However, if you like doing the same thing over and over again, this game (and a job on an assembly line) may be perfect for you. Multiplayer: 5/10 Not much to say here, other than the fact that the multiplayer has a Call of Duty-based style. In fact, I would prefer multiplayer over single player because of the fact that you fight human players instead of repetitive computer AI that repeatedly hurls itself at you. Despite its multiplayer mode, I would have prefered that the mods sacrificed the multiplayer and instead focused on working out single player improvements. Lack of a co-op (2 player) campaign also deducted points from this category. Player Created Mods/Addons: 2/10 Little player support here in the way of modding capabilities. Ubisoft has ignored players' requests to include SDK (which would allow much expanded player modding capabilities) and the most people can do is make new maps for multiplayer. Final Comments: I would NOT recommend this game. Most gamers (especially those who enjoyed Far Cry 1) would be severely disappointed with the outcome and gameplay of Far Cry 2. Why do old games with horrible graphics but incredible gameplay (such as Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life 2) remain popular even today? The uniqueness of their gameplay overshadows their lack of graphical detail. Although this game has excellent graphics, a very realistic world, and open choice in gameplay, the repetition and slightly problematic AI for single player causes this game to go down under.… Expand

However, the game's storyline is somewhere between nonsensical and nonexistent, none of the characters have much depth, the voice acting is mediocre at best, the missions are repetitive, and there are some problems with the control scheme. Some points to consider: (1) Perhaps what throws away the game's immersive qualities more than anything else is that even though you're supposedly a "no-name scumbag", the game clearly revolves around you. Ostensibly you are just some guy caught in a civil war between two sides (UFLL and APR), but in fact the supposed two sides are indistinguishable (you can't tell if you are fighting UFLL or APR guys), there are no front lines, and you almost never see AIs fighting each other. Instead, they only fight you. The war does has two sides: you (and occasionally one of your "buddies") against nearly everyone in the entire country. (2) Ostensibly you're in the country to kill the "Jackal" guy who keeps the war going, but for some reason you reach this goal by killing hundreds of random people that have nothing to do with your supposed objective. (3) The control scheme has issues. For example if you want to run for cover, you are only allowed to run straight forward (strafing disables running) and if you are reloading, the game forces you to finish reloading before you can run or switch weapons. (4) The bus stations that take you long distances have no staff. No ticket agent, no bus drivers, riding the bus is free, it's perfectly safe, and it gets you to your destination much faster than driving. Make sense? (5) Virtually everyone in the country is male and heavily armed. There are virtually no civilians. (6) There are magic boxes all over the map. Put your gun in a magic box and pull the same gun out of another box 20 miles away. Or how about the gun shop (which is normally unstaffed) where you buy the guns on a computer and the guns you bought magically appear in a warehouse next door. Make sense? The problem is that while the graphics are highly immersive, the gameplay mechanics are absurd enough to pull you out of the immersion.… Expand

    It seems reviewers played another game than mine. Despite of fantastic grphics and open worlds, here's nothing deserves for higher rating. Innumerable enemy spawns and the same quests (main and side) ruined everything what make prodecessor very good game.

    Cool graphics and nice gameplay, tends to get a bit boring though. You basically do the same thing over and over again, and the story doesn't really go anywhere.

    Great graphics overall. The scenery, open space, the "go-anywhere" concept and the choice of weaponery all play in favor of this game. BUT... I feel like they cut corner on the story line / mission types. Go there, kill that guys, steal this and then come back... It's always the same from start to finish. Still I'm addict to FarCry 2.

    - The game's story is the same no matter which character you pick.
    - Malaria is pointless and only services the Heart of Darkness subtext.
    - The world is empty. No civilians, virtually no wildlife.
    - There is little reason to explore.
    - Side quests feel like filler.

    The good:
    + The weapons are diverse and fun to use.
    + Gun play is very fun.
    + The world is super detailed and the graphics have held up really well.
    + Dylan's mod and graphics enhancement mods add to these strengths.

    With so few positives, why do I like this game more than Far Cry 3? Like Far Cary 3, 2's story is very much a descent into madness. The Heart of Darkness overtones beat you over the head, yet the journey into madness is much more subtle. There are no hallucinogenic mushroom sequences and no schizophrenic QTE boss encounters or combat with a giant lava beast here. Only a man with malaria alone in a hostile (if empty) wilderness trying not to die. The realism mods that exist for this game improve combat and make many of the repetitive gameplay elements more endurable. I've had a lot of fun replaying this game with Dylan's mod for the added challenge. Stealth is also more viable with this mod whereas before it was basically broken.    … Expand

    The first time I've tried to play Far Cry 2, I was kinda overwhelmed and confused by the sheer size of the world and the long stretches to go from point A to point B so I've waited to have more time at hand to dive in.

    So years after, I finally managed to properly play the game and it was both satisfying and... puzzling.     So years after, I finally managed to properly play the game and it was both satisfying and... puzzling.

    Among the strong point of Far Cry 2 is - of course - the core gameplay of shooting, the rendering of an african country (especially the blinding light and sensation of heat, the heavy rains, and majesty of its landscape), and the dereliction (palpable in either Malaria, weapon degradation, and also progressive loss of humanity).

    Another great feature of the game is the immersion in a civil war setting, with several factions (UFLL, APR, civils and mercenaries, weapon dealers) you're kinda "forced" to work for in order to get medication, gain weapons, reputation, money, and potentially reach your objective and leave the country. Many gray areas here where - as one would say - it is kind of difficult to distinguish good from evil, where there is only human need of survival, instinct of greed and drive to power.

    All of this led to a somewhat strange place : on one hand, I enjoyed the traversal (either by foot, by car or by boat), but not so much the random encounters that acted more as disturbance in the appreciation of landscape in a disconnected, tourist way.

    Like many of FPS, I played it consciously in order to "get to end", but with a growing feeling of not really knowing where I was standing in the bigger picture, questioning my own morality (if not mortality in the face of such dreadful odds) and only left with my role as a hired gun working for the highest bidder, somewhat becoming a dark character.

    For me, the most satisfying moment was the "heart of darkness", just after the prison, near the end, where everything somewhat fell in place. Evocation of Conrad's book acted as a huge relief, completely changing my perspective of the game - kinda like Bioshock ending.

    So in my opinion, Far Cry 2 is a great game, not because it is an open world FPS, but because it makes you experience "the horror" and crushing power of an historical context than can lead people to commit atrocities. At some point, it's not possible to play Far Cry 2 solo storymode "for fun" - except if you embrace both the absurd and the madness.    … Expand

    This game has very nice graphics. You actually feel like you are in Africa. The combat in this game is decent except for the infinite enemy ''check points" they are really just "shoot to death on spot" points. One of the best things in this game is the realistic fires that can spread and behave like a real fire would. The controls of a PC don't translate well to a game that requires you to drive vehicles for the majority of the game. The high scoring of this game is a shame and I hope more and more gamers take note of which magazines can be trusted to give a fair review and which are obviously in the pocket of the massive, unregulated gaming industry.     Really boring. The field of view also make it very unappealing. I was so looking forward to this. Bought it on release day, installed it, played for 15 mins and haven't felt a need to play again. I was initially dissappointed in Crysis, but compared to this its way better. Not so sure if the critics were playing the same game version i have cos they are really over-hyping this game. Stupid ennemies that can take awful damage and respawn in a matter of seconds, unrealistic weapons (snipe rifles without any bullet dispersion or gravity effect). Probably the most over hyped game of the century and does a dis-service to the mammoth of a game that preceeded it i.e. Far Cry.     not a far cry game. i dont think any game in the far cry series will ever have that same place as farcry.
    but as for a game, its not too bad. it looks georgeous, sound georgeous and plays well.

In some areas you can't use weapons, thus making it impossible to kill certain key characters. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, it just sort of takes from what was originally promised. Really this is a fun game, but it gets super repetitive. The free roam aspect is great with the type of shooter it is, but there's no real variety in what sort of enemies you can fight and it almost seems like the game is purely kill or be killed. If you wander the deserts but run into a car that drives by, they're always enemies, and if you're spotted they'll want to kill you.… Expand

Definitely impressed, and while it doesn't quite look as amazing as Crysis, it's still pretty good. Think COD4 quality, or a notch above. Of course, COD4 didn't portray 50 square miles of terrain.

    I was kinda disappointed by the weapon selection, just judging by the upgrade menu. Hopefully more guns'll get added to the list throughout the campaign, otherwise the selection isn't very impressive at all.

    Another thing I noticed is that to use the weapon sights, you have to hold down the right mouse button, it doesn't work as a toggle like in other games. A little miffed by that at first, but you do get used to it. Not a gamebreaker.

    Does anyone else feel the mouse sensitivity for the game menus is way too low? Just a minor nitpick of mine.

    So far, it seems pretty easy, and I'm playing it on Hardcore. Maybe this is why they didn't feel a prone position was necessary? A bullet will take from 10-15% of my health. Hardly a Tom Clancy feel, so don't expect that. Infamous is another notch above, so you'll maybe want to try that for a bigger challenge. *shrug*

    I've already talked about the weapon selection, but here's a bit more detail. There's 4 weapon slots, one for your machete, one for a primary weapon, one for a secondary weapon, and one for a special weapon. A primary weapon counts as shotguns, rifles, sniper rifles, and a grenade launcher. A secondary weapon counts as pistols, or machine pistols. A special weapon would be a machine gun, rocket launcher, or flame thrower. This seems alright, but is actually quite problematic with its restrictions. Because of the slots, no sane player will ever use a shotgun, since it counts as a primary and thus would take over the slot for rifles or sniper rifles, which are far more useful on the wide open African savannah. This is in contrast with Crysis, in which the best combo was often a sniper rifle coupled with a shotgun. In FC2, this combo is impossible, and thus the grenade launcher and shotguns must be neglected, which is a shame. Speaking of the lack of variety compared to a Rainbow Six game, there're only 3 shotguns, 3 assault rifles, a submachine gun, a grenade launcher, and 3 sniper rifles to choose from for the primary slot.

    Another annoyance is the fact that throughout the landscape are various checkpoints manned by enemies. Clearing these checkpoints are pretty easy, but the problem is that they are quickly remanned as soon as you leave the area. With all the various traveling you must do in the game, it quickly becomes tedious reclearing the same checkpoints over and over again.

    So far, I've been having fun sniping everything in sight. Though many tempting sniping spots are unfortunately out of reach due to the terrain being too steep to climb.

    Oh yea... I did notice something really cool while playing earlier today. I'd sniped some guy in the chest but it wasn't a fatal shot so he staggered and fell down. A little later he got up to a crouch and a second enemy ran over and gave him a piggyback ride. No, I'm not kidding. Just thought that was pretty damn awesome.    … Expand

Story is almost entirely non-existent; not even a bare-bones story to give a sense of progression; just a series of disjointed missions interspersed with well-written dialogue. Enemies will also respawn literally minutes after you clear them out from a base, making it feel like a pest-control business rather than an actual conflict. So in short, Far Cry 2 has a lot of potential and succeeds in some areas, but it's just too repetitive and lacking in story to really prove its worth in the long run; wait for a Steam sale before buying it.… Expand

    This game is pretty good, the guns and upgrades are cool, the missions are pretty repedative except it takes way to many bullets to take someone down, like 7 shots it seems unless its a headshot...pretty sure someone being shot twice would put them to their knees, anyways whatever i like a challenge and the game isnt hard even with this issue on normal. Plus, the Dunia engine is great, and it contributes a lot to the gameplay. For example, do you notice that the wind is blowing in the direction of your enemies? Start a fire and it will spread and burn your enemies. Or you can shoot an ammo box and hope that one of the random shooting bullets will hit your enemies. Or you can blow up the building they're in.

    Basically, don't count on an intriguing story or in depth characters. But heck, the gameplay's a blast! And it makes it worthy of playing!    … Expand

One aspect is done very well, and this is of course the visuals; they are second only to crysis (from the developers of the original Far Cry) in my opinion, and the fire-propagation system is simply unrivalled. But what seems to have been forgotten is that graphics do not make a game. It is a combination of all key aspects; story, gameplay, atmosphere, etc, and I feel that only the graphical aspect was truly fulfilled. I cannot say that the game is bad, but what could have been brilliant turned out to be mediocre. I believe the series should go back to basics; I think the game should be more story driven like its predecessor, yet retaining some of the freedom that Far Cry 2 brought to the series. I am still optimistic for a third Far Cry game, as I still believe the series can be revived and possibly even surpass the first game. For Far Cry 2 though, I would warn against purchasing it unless you can buy it for a cheap price, and are simply looking for another game to play before adding to your collection.… Expand

I mostly like the spreading fire effect, puting field and trees on fire. some fishes and other underwater creatures could add some more to the atmosphere (we had them in FC1). the engine is great - moving and destroyable objects.     I haven't finished the game yet, but here is my review after 10hours of story mode. The surroundings in general looks very good, but after a while you really start to notice that the whole forrest area is build up out of 4 or 5 different plant types and a couple tree and bush types. so after a couple of hours the whole game starts to look the same. The AI of the enemies are average and predictable, but decent enough. The missions ive dont so far were preet boring. I honestly dont notice any difference with just driving/walking around or doing a mission. The force of enemies you encounter is basicly the same. The Movement of the vehicles are good, they havedone a good job on that. The walking part is much less, especialy jumping sucks....or i should say in inabillity to jump. You can jump up, but still a low rock or wood log you cant jump over no matter how hard you try. Only whily holding the sprint button i made a few succesfull jump attempts....pretty horrible. When a game is good i can play it like 8 hours straight fith the first play. C.O.D 4 for examply i finished in 1 go. This game however just cant hold my excitement. after 1 hour of playing im done with it and go do something else. So far the game is fun enough to keep playing it, but gets pretty boring after a short time of playing. This game is an improvemt with the original Far Cry, especialy the graphics and the whole sandbox idea has improved, but it still lacks a lot of stuff and a lot of it is just not well finished. Looks to me that far cry is a rushed job by the developers. Jut like the game Creed, it has a lot of potential, but the developers didnt "develope" it enough. All in all, it is good enough to buy as a side game. Don't expect to much of it though. The first few hours are the most fun when the scenery is still new to you, but then the repetitiveness starts to kick in and you start to notice the things that are bad about this game. 6.5 for this game.… Expand

    After spending £30 on this game I tried to get my moneys worth, but no matter what, killing everyone at a checkpoint you have cleared out 3 times before or spending 10 Minutes driving to a mission in a slow and poor handling vechile is just not fun. Playing the game felt more like chore than anything else.

    This game should have been called FarDrive 2. I've literally spent more time in my vehicle than in the Grand Theft Auto series. There isn't much variety in the cars though, so it gets pretty repetitive fast.

    That said, the missions are really enjoyable and there is no shortage of random fun stuff to do.

It surprised me that they used a different engine for this game, because besides having to stop and pop malaria pills for the first half of the game, it felt like I was playing Crysis in Africa (at least Crysis tried to have a storyline). Stunning graphics do not make a game; if the story was even PRESENT in the mind of the player or, say, the character animation was even a little better, I probably would've given this game a 7. The fact is that there are many superior distractions out right now, and that point begs one important question that i'm sure is in the mind of anyone who has played both: while Fallout 3 is fresh on the shelves right now, who would even WANT to give this game the time of day?… Expand

    Alot of repitition. The AI isn't so great. Playing the game on hard just means the enemies respawn more often and it takes less bullets for you to die. Other than that, the depth of the game is great. Just remember to quicksave often or you will get very frustrated as the fights aren't that intuitive. The graphics are amazing as well.

    The graphics, the game engine, the animations in interacting with the world are all top notch. The action itself is also great for the most part. Unfortunately it's one of those games that suffers in other areas enough to drag it down. Perhaps patching can rescue it, or an expansion or the next installment.     It's problems:
    - Enemies can take a hail of bullets, even from high caliber weapons, before going down.
    - AI can be great and interesting at times and just down right stupid a lot of the other times
    - The constant re-spawning of check points that makes moving across the map tedious at best.
    - The story does nothing to engage the player, no connection, I feel no desire at all to finish the game.
    - The only real goal in the game is to get the weapons you want. Once you have em and have played with them the game doesn't really offer much else.
    - Rather simplistic weapon controls

    Stuff it did well:
    - Beautiful open world, amazingly well designed
    - Great graphics and engine that runs very smooth
    - Neat AI actions like rescuing a buddy or crawling to cover when injured
    - Good variety of different weapons that fit the environment

    Game is way overrated. Boring is how I think of it. It also makes me think these gaming review sites are on the take. Gamespy the closest with 3.5 / 5. Not one of these review sites mentioned the broken multiplayer. Shame on them.

The shooting is acceptable, I wish the engine modeled ballistics like Stalker but oh well. The story and overall mission structure is horrible though, for all the reasons people have listed.     Im left feel unmotivated to complete the main game only after spending 4 hours getting to understand whats going on and how to advance in the game. The traveling from village to village is repetitive, the a.i. is complicated but not impressive. Stealth is impossible and enemies can spot you from a few 100 meters away because you foot is sticking out from behind a tree. This game has elements stolen from STALKER (Chase Strelok instead of the Jackal) Except STALKER with a patch that fixes the glitches is a way better and more captivating game, with a far superior AI, and more fun combats. Now after stealing the story from I have played the original Far Cry, and this game has nothing to do with it, in other words this is not Far Cry 2, its some other game. This game has elements stolen from STALKER (Chase Strelok instead of the Jackal) Except STALKER with a patch that fixes the glitches is a way better and more captivating game, with a far superior AI, and more fun combats. Now after stealing the story from Stalker and removing the fun elements from it, such as leaning, and inventory, Ubisoft tried to add cars to make this game seem like Grand Theft Auto, but miserably failed at that too. You cannot lean behind trees and just peek to look at the enemy. And when you are behind a tree and you shoot just over the edge, the bullets will hit the tree, which means that the precision in this game is pretty bad. I know Ubisoft is ticked off at Crytek for working with EA and creating Crysis. Now if you want to show Crytek that you can make a better game, you should at least adopt the good things Crysis did, and get a decent story (Crysis has great technological achievements, but the game sucked). NOT adopt the bad things from Crysis and make it worse. I want some of my money back, but I doubt that it will happen, maybe I can say it was fraud, due to the fact that they sold me "Bad Version of Grand Theft STALKER Rwanda" and not Far Cry 2, where ever they might be keeping the real game.… Expand

It advertises with "Everything that should be destroyable, is.", but the only things you can destroy is ammo-piles and propane tanks. The gameplay is so repetitive, you feel like you are playing the same mission over and over, only in different locations.     Good game overall but a little repetitive.For example when you're driving around you are often ambushed. Fair enough but each time it seems to be by the same two idiots. This results in hundreds of identical gunfights. When the badguys are taken out your vehicle will need fixing but fixing cars in FC2 is the most annoying feature in any game ever. It's a bit of a blow to the immersion when a guy in an old sedan decides to ram my 50-cal armed technical. Several of the buddies are interesting, but you never really get to know them. The side missions are all nearly identical. There are a handful of interesting faction missions, but most of them are just search-and-destroy in various locations. The malaria mechanic, though unrealistic, could have been great if it actually became harder to obtain medicine as your reputation increased, but in practice the only difference is that your quest-giver will admonish you for being such an awful person before sending you on the same mission you've been doing all game long. I'd suggest waiting until it gets cheaper - it's worth playing, just not worth the asking price. I am looking forward to seeing what modders can do with this engine, though.… Expand

The story missions are boring if you don't do the alternate buddy mission. My biggest complaint is that none of the main missions so far help you find The Jackal. The game is flawed, not bad. Naturally you can read most player reviews and see that you either love it or hate it. It isn't that the game is bad, or that the reviewer is bad, it's that some people will like it and some won't. This game unlike many has a clear dividing line. So I'm not saying it's great, or that it's terrible. I'm just saying maybe rent it before you spend 50-60 bucks on it.… Expand

It gives you choices over which missions to do, and choices about how to do each mission, but the trouble is, these choices do not affect anything at all except for how far you have to drive (and in this game, there's a hell of a lot of driving to and from missions, which gets pretty dull). The first-person shooter aspect of the game isn't done all that well, as people have mentioned, enemies tend to soak up bullets, and whilst OK, the AI isn't anything special. You have to get guns from weapon shops, since enemy guns jam, which is tedious, as it involves MORE driving. The driving wouldn't be so bad if you weren't constantly being shot at by guards at guard-posts you had already captured. There is no motivation to progress in the game. You have the choice to do missions for "buddies", in return for which you get nothing, or the main story missions, which generally involve killing someone, or destroying something, because a psychopathic African warlord wants you to. In return, you get diamonds with which you can buy guns which you can use to do this more efficiently. If the missions were more consequential, if doing things for your buddies actually DID something, if there was less tedious driving, and if the combat was varied even just a LITTLE bit, this would be a good game. Sadly, none of this is the case - the game tries to do many things and does none of them well.… Expand

    I can't believe the reviewers liked this game so much. After wasting many hours playing it, I looked back and realized I had had very little fun. Oh, and of course I was stuck halfway through the game due to a glitch, and frankly I had (and still have) zero interest in starting all over again. This game is boring, boring, boring.

    The graphics are great. I live in south Africa and the similarities in enviroments between real life and the game are awesome, except for the fact that you go from jungle to savannah to desert in 10 km. I would have loved for some really open flat plains to speed around in a FAST car, not like the ones in the game. The AI is sometimes buggy but immersive. I love getting stealthy and hearing the guys freak out, in afrikaans and ahosa and whatever, planning their moves audibly queing me to come out of hiding. Sometimes I even feel sorry for the guys. Fire and explosives are fun but sniping doesn't work so well. Also, how the flip can i poke a bullethole open right through my arm with my finger and the next moment the hole is gone? wtf. It's interesting though to see the world react ot your rising reputation level though. I play games for good storylines, and this ones SUCKS. The dialouge is rushed and bland, and you dont; get much choice in missions. I hate doing something that i know frikking the moment I get the mission I will be assasinated afterwards or everything will turn against me. Only part I enjoyed was killing the one person in the game I hate the most, only to find that that also lead to the situation getting more pear shaped. Buddy missions are made moral by the addition of invisible children. "There are soldiers near border, on other side of border is children, I wont let that happen" (from an old russian dude who has no objection to destabilizing a country by ruining it's food supply). Ugh. My second best buddy is my only true freind. I think Jack Carver is the Jackal..both have the same wannabe-badass tone of voice. Guard posts respawn too fast, I mean, how many people are there in a 50km radius of a war sodden country? Overall a great engine with a great concept but a story lacking in various areas, and immersion that gets emotionally and physically exhausting.… Expand

And also I still dont know how the fuck to use the mortar for example, just generates smoke for me...and of course the flare psitol is fun tooo...no use of it in dark, it dosent illuminate anything, just good to put the grass on fire.     This game is "ok," but that's really it. It's a good experience and it's fun, but the game gets repetitive and it's short. you pretty much drive back and forth and shoot people in between. Voice acting is blah most of the people are mumbling and i have decent speakers. Eye candy is great, but that seems like the only thing that really makes want to play more.     Far Cry 2 is a beautiful, but mediocre game. The comparisons to Assassin's Creed are appropriate in that there is an amazing world for you to get bored in quickly. The respawning checkpoints and long travel times make the game feel so repetitive. With Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead being released at around the same time you could get a lot more for your money. Pick this up when it's $15-20.

    The level design is impeccably bad. 50km by 50km and they designed missions to be on the other side of the map with no active save system. Good job. As mentioned previously, the quick respawns made it difficult and frustrating to move from A to B and back to A since most missions made you move to the other end of the map. Enemies took a lot of bullets to finish off and firing in short bursts, for some Was a let down. Otherwise it should go the way of ArmA, 2 hits and you're dead. Jumping was an issue because you seemed to stick or get repelled by objects too easily. Plot was not well done to overcome keep the player engaged and cover the point that the frequent respawns really made you feel that no progress was actually made.… Expand

While far cry 2 showcases some impressive graphics, a massive open world level, and unique and entertaining assortment of weapons, the GAMEPLAY is simply BROKEN. Poor gameplay design and terrible AI fatally flaws this otherwise intriguing games. I have played it for 1 hour, and I don't plan on playing more. The game is absolutely gorgeous, but the design is horrible. Please, do not buy this game. The story was BAD there is no other way to describe the plot other than plain ol' BAD!!!! I know that it was supposed to be a sand box game but the missions were so plain and boring it was hard to keep playing it. When you finally get through all of that, the ending to me was just as disappointing as the rest of the game. pretty much everything else has been covered already like the bullet damage and the hit detection but the multiplayer is seriously one of the worst which is too bad because it had a lot of potential.… Expand

I found that sticking to the story missions led to the same assassinate/destroy missions BUT took me to cool locations like the Fort, Brewery, Scrap Yard, Mine, Desert Oasis, Fishing Village and The thing I liked BEST about Far Cry 2 was that there are a number of really cool unique locations. Each village, mine, brewery, etc was individually designed giving them a less generic feel. I found that sticking to the story missions led to the same assassinate/destroy missions BUT took me to cool locations like the Fort, Brewery, Scrap Yard, Mine, Desert Oasis, Fishing Village and more, each with a different feel. I did avoid side missions like the weapons guy and buddy missions because they were the same old but without the interesting locations, rather forcing you to traipse around the countryside. Buddy missions in particular felt like irritating strap-ons to the main mission, basically "finish the story mission then come save my ass". No thank you. My play style was to sneak about and snipe then wait for the enemy to come to me - if you enjoy skulking and sniping then you may well have some fun with this game. I also tended to largely avoid the roadblocks by using buses to insta-travel as well as using the map to go cross country via shortcuts that seem to be built into the game for that purpose. As an aside it should be noted that the actual plot is spectacularly retarded and if I had more of a choice I would have chosen to attack both the APR and UFLL. Overall for me the game was good but not great and had the potential to do a lot more.… Expand

    Excellent shooter that is nearly destroyed by forcing you to keep the ingame map open that takes up nearly 50% of the screen. So your either left with the choice of opening/closing the map every min or having it open and cant see anything. That and the fact there are animations for everything in the game. Basically you lose 20% of your time watching things happen as you play the game.     PROS: Beautiful, immersive environment. Creative health system. Lots of guns (if you work for them). CONS: Terrible AI. Way too much driving. Multiplayer not fun at all. Story is non-existent. 16:10 widescreen is just cropped 4:3. SUMMARY: I'm very dissapointed with this game. Pass on it and pick up a different one until this is in the bargain bin.

    More importantly, it has nowhere near as many bugs as something like "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl," a title that bears many similarities. Add to the roughly 25 hour single-player campaign a remarkably easy-to-use map creation tool and a full multiplayer suite, and you've got one of the most complete overall gaming packages of the year, as well as one of the most ambitious.
