What a game. This and Fallout 2 are my fav games from this series. I love the story and how everything you do actually impacts the story and at the end you can see all your accomplishments/faults. Also the freedom to do anything you want... want to be an **** that steals and kills everything? You can. Want to be the good guy, that resolves violence with conversations? Sure you can. I'd give this a 10 out of 10, but I've encountered a bug, that prevented me to find Moore, a character that I had to talk to, so I could continue NCR quests... I tried using console commands to teleport to her, turns out she vanished from the entire game world... thought she died, so I resurrected her using commands, still she was nowhere to be found... this kind of bug is gamebreaking, especially when you're playing a "patched" game in 2018 and have already 50 hours of gameplay behind you, I just couldn't start from the beginning, so I had to leave the whole idea of supporting NCR behind. Patch your f***ing game :) Besides that, everything was perfect. Pickens approves! Expand

Finished the game only from second attempt, which tells how slow is the story told. Interesting characters, some curious quests, enough role-playing in choices and customization. Cumbersome inventory management, frequent travelling, long empty roads, short play-list. Enjoyed this game though it has serious flaws. 8/10

The only one thing i didn't like in this game is poor FPS component. I know RPG component is pretty important, but damn what if i want to shoot up some raiders or like that. The game doesn't fully allow you to play some kind of non-pacifist character cause shooting is bad enough.

I spent a good time just building boring settlements)

My first fallout game was FO4...While its streamlining did appeal to me as fresh player. The story line went nowhere fast. I forgot about my kid. (later I find out the music from fallout 3 was repackaged into 4 to my chagrin as I LOVED the music from F:NV

New vegas is an epic masterpiece of player agency, skill points, builds, STORYLINE that matters, related characters....and most of all OBSIDIAN.

I took a hiatus from gaming in 2006 (last sytem was a ps2 and nvidia 6600gt graphic card comp) up to 2016 after college when i got a ps4 and a laptop that can handle games older than diablo 3 (nvidia gtx 850m intel I7 4710 2.5ghz? or 3.7?))

My favorite game back then was KOTOR and KOTOR 2 so the RPG elements in F:NV was a refreshing change from FO4...

Just play it...The hype is not for no reason and neither is it nostalgia this is the best of the 3d fallouts...

The gameplay isn't much different from Fallout 3, but given the amount of time Obsidian had to work on New Vegas, it's a huge improvement, specially story-wise. This game has a rich and well branched story. It's DLC's are also real gems.

    Pros:
    -More thrilling plot: (revenge)
    -Better side quests.
-More beautiful and less restrictive environment (sandbox- literally the desert).

    Cons:
-Buggy and choppy as can be.
-Poor ass inventory management. OMG it is awful. There is too much crap to carry. the player is not left with much sense of what is useful to keep with them.
-Some armored enemies are bullet / laser / grenade sponges. It takes too long to defeat such enemy AI even while targeting the models head.
-Only the combat perks are useful. Just forget all builds except the combat intensive builds. No use for the survivalist where the desert is just still punishing. (dehydration and not way around it)
-Poor main plot quest narrative. Player rarely experiences the primary plot throughout the game.
-All the mods that are available and I cannot get a single one to function without crashing the game. I've gone through all the directions to install and they all bug the game out to where it crashes (steam version).

I prefer F3 to FNV: The story is not so interesting like in many other games. Do you remember how you began to walk as a baby in Fallout 3? This was a memorable idea, and here? The story starts to be interesting, when you arrive in New Vegas and see more factions. In addition the desert is empty and boring, F1 and 3 were much more interesting.

The dialog system is as dumb as in F3. Just click almost everything and read. In addition I find it hard to play evil, it is as if the game is guiding you to play political correct = good.
Key word political correct. This game is gendered like Falout 3 already before. So yes you will see 50kg women fighting as good as men...just like in Hollywood propaganda.
The dialogs have low content, written for the mainstream. After some time in a dialog I was asking myself, what was the point? As if girls were talking to you.

Technically this game is another catastrophe like Oblivion and Fallout 3: Bugs, Crashes, low fps. Bethesda is not finishing their games, because they rely on the big modding scene to do their work, this is disgusting. The game loads very often also, what is annoying. The sound is like in Fallout 3, the same music. The graphics is also bad, even for a game from 2010.

The control of the PIP Boy is a nightmare. Low overview, many menus...console problem. Unacceptable. Because of this I didnt like to collect items, just did what was the fastest way.

Gameplay? level scaling, haha. You fight some scorpions as level 5 and as level 40 and in both cases the fight can be demanding.

What is good? Another big world to explore + great franchise. Yes the gameplay is slightly better than in F3, because you have several types of munition, you can craft and you can modify weapons. But overall the gameplay is too easy.

    Yes, FNV is overrated.

I love it, and i'm not furious at Metacritic, it was buggy when it was rated. Obsidian was only given a year and a half when Bethesda gave them selves 3 years for Fallout 3 and 4 years for Fallout 4 ( I just realized that the years it took to create them is the number of years, so is fallout 76 76 minute?).

This is the best game out of the three ‘modern’ Fallouts. Obsidian has improved a lot of features which many Bethesda games often suck at, e.g. player choice, story, interesting NPCs and the added reputation system. Fallout: New Vegas is actually closer to Fallout 1 and 2 than to 3 and 4, and I love it. It's just a shame that its graphics and gunplay are so outdated, even for 2010 standards.

Fallout NV brings back a darker tone with mature themes and issues that would be more prevalent in the nuclear post apocalypse, that's filled with a great cast of characters to meet.

However there was a large number of bugs when FNV came out ranging from player characters arms blocking the screen when sneaking, broken quests and crashes, although story & gameplay is just strong enough to get us to forgive the buggy launch state and once the patches rolled out we were left with truly one of the best games of 2010. if you factor in 2-3 good/great pieces of DLC (less said about Lonesome road the better) and you have a great GOTY edition of a game to play.

Probably the thing that changes the most is the player's options, roleplay and rpg elements, there's hours and hours of quests, dialogue and fun stuff. I would really recommend the game to someone that has already played the original games, New vegas is super inspired by them. It's definitely a game that you should check out. Of course, the game has issues and bugs, but to be honest, they don't really destroy the immersion or anything, it's only a problem when it comes to bugs or glitches in the main quests. The game crashing is also an issue but if you don't use much mods you will probably experience little of them. Gameplay is not bad, in the start of the game it is a problem because the weapon shakes a lot (You need to upgrade your weapons skill to shoot straight) Though, the combat is still very cool. The animations are everything you should expect from an rpg, nothing really impressive but again, they don't ruin immersion, not for me at least. But what does DESTROYS the immersion in the game are the invisible walls. They were a minor problem in Fallout 3 but here you will encounter them EVERYWHERE is ridiculous how you can't jump a 2-feet rock because of an invisible wall, specially because sometimes you need to climb stuff for gameplay mechanics, what if you want to climb to that mountain to snipe enemies? NO you can't because there's an invisible wall blocking the way. If you are trying to put one of these invisible walls in a giant mountain just so the player doesn't glitches, that's ok, but sometimes is just plain ridiculous. Now talking about the DLCS : They are not really that surprising, while they do tell backstory of characters and places, and interesting stuff, they are not really that great, they are usually repetitive, dull and sometimes even frustrating. Some enemies from the dlcs are just bullet sponges, or maybe the game adds a new mechanic that seems nice, but very often glitches or doesn't work. Probably the worst thing that some of the dlcs do is remove all of the players's weapons, which is annoying because sometimes it doesn't make any sense to remove player's weapons (especially in dead money) I guess you can say that they add a little something to the game, probably the best things are the weapons you can get, but aside from that they are not really that great or memorable. BUT what i reviewed was pretty much the game itself. It's not bad, it's fun, i have completed it... I don't know, 4 times? It's super fun, even more when adding mods to the formula... I hope this review helped you in any way. Bye! Expand

Where Bethesda tried to force the Fallout franchise through the Elderscrolls formula, Obsidian went on and forced the Elderscrolls formula into a Fallout game.

Once more emphasis is on storytelling. It is on world building, on making choices feel like they have consequence. A step away from civil-war type patriotism, and towards a broken world with delicious choices not only black and white- but juicy shades of gray.

Yes, the graphics was even then aging, but that was perfectly fine. You were in the post apocalyptic Mojave desert- living in a world that took itself seriously enough to make fun of itself without making of itself a cliché. Expanding on the fallout world!

With this type of storytelling you may as well set the Brotherhood of Steel, Supermutant and whatnot aside. They will create new and just as exciting content for us- and it will make sense in the fallout universe. Imagine the world of the Legion, or their take on the Institute!

The only thing holding them back: the Elderscrolls formula.

With this game- I saw the promise of Fallout 3 come to fruition:
Imagine what may come of the next game! Then there was Fallout 4.

Meaning that the people making it will be following the lore from previous games they've made that takes place in the wild desert of the western US.

The game does a beautiful job of giving the player freedom of choice, the option to skip it and do whatever they like. The world is a very creative take on the alternate future of the Mojave with different factions each having an in depth storyline. The gameplay has mostly held up, just point and shoot when it comes to combat. Sure it has aged but there is no real issue with it. The story is amazing along with the DLC each having a extremely deep lore. Even the DLC gives the player freedom of choice! Do you side with one or the other? Or do you kill them all? Thats the beauty of good quality fleshed out storytelling.

I ran off a disk version of the game on review in a non internet setting. After a good feel and level in the game. i quit out and enabled internet, patched up everything, and relaunched. Most if not all bugs have been fixed. I ran the game from the ladder. It was amazing, the story was rich, the choice was dynamic and amazing, the assortment of weapons to the amount of ammo was a great ratio. Barter was set perfectly. And the over all main story kept me wanting more, even in the end. The side stories where interesting. Helping communities and factions played an important role later in the story line. The DLCs are deep in narrative and what i like to call "Wet Story" (not dry story, heh.). The story is always something unique, something interesting, something that you can effect and change. The gun play is a bit on the low side. Though, this engine wasnt designed for it. But that isnt this Developers fault.

I loved this games dynamics in story and RPG. the return of the Traits. and the better use of skills and survival system. Customization and ammo types where a grate idea. The return of a mutant friend. And the backstory linking him around. The backstory on several characters where very very nice nostalgia trips. Even if you didnt play the classics, the game still had good backstories to each character. Even standard enemies that didnt need backstories, got atleast something explaining what they where doing there and what lead to it.

Fallout is a title and a series that i loved. i am in the No Mutants Allowed camp.
I grew up on Fallout, learned morals and what to say from Fallout 2, and tactical and reasoning to conflicts and decision making from Fallout Tactics.
I played over 600h on Fallout 3. and have reached over 1000h of Fallout New Vegas.
Wish i could say the same for Fallout 4. i have only played a total of 423 hours of Fallout 4.

Lets all hope Fallout, the game that wiped out america, gets better down the line. its 2 latest titles dont seam to give us what Fallout is.

    My rating? 10/10.
Pre-bug fix? about an 8/10. But we can blame a specific other company that actually owns the title right now, for not providing enough QA Testers.

One of the best dialogues and story. Feels like an adult games, not a story for kids where everything is explained and told. A lot of context to every quest and character.
However, graphics are bad and shooting is terrible.
Also this game was the best DLCs with amazing story connect with the Fallout lore. (personally, I find DLCs more interesting than the main game)

I had no interest in the story of it at all because it was incredibly boring to me. The aiming system was absolutely terrible(Fallout 3's was worse though). It didn't feel smooth at all. There were an incredible amount of bugs in my time playing too. The main turnoff for me though was how barren it was. With it being a desert, the game wasn't really interesting unless you in a large town. The most boring part is tied with that which is walking from place to place. There are only annoying & hard enemies(Cazadors & deathclaws). There were some small areas here & there, but they weren't all that interesting apart from some unique dialogue & possibly a quest. I don't at all think this is a bad game, I think it is actually one of my favorites, I just don't think it is as good as people say it is. I have only played FO3, 4, & NV with 3 being my most favorite, & NV being my least. I could also talk about the graphics being trash, but is made on a 10 year old engine & is a 7 year old game. Then again, Crysis is from 2007 & looks miles better than this. It is a unpopular opinion, but I think NV is the worst post-bethesda fallout. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout NV an action-based RPG set in a post-apocalyptic America, more specifically, Nevada. The game was a collaboration between Bethesda (who have produced other similar RPGs like Skyrim, Oblivion and the other Fallout titles) and Obsidian Entertainment back in 2010. This is available on PC, PlayStation as well as Xbox (However, mods are only accessible on PC unlike the later titles that Bethesda has released). Again, similar to their previous titles, the game is aimed at an older audience due to its use of mature themes (violence, drug use, gambling, etc.).
New Vegas is a continuation of the Fallout Series – a set of games that focus on a post-apocalyptic North America in which has been targeted during a nuclear war, known as the ‘Great War’ of 2077 which was caused by the shortage of fossil fuels and a global energy crisis. The universe itself, splits of from the 1940s/50s and follows a different root of the events of the wars fought then. The game contains uses of 40s and 50s ideals, fashion, architecture, etc. but has its own futuristic twists. However, the series itself takes place over a hundred years later, when America is nothing but a wasteland full of radiation. Over these hundred years, many factions have risen such as the Brotherhood of steel, the NCR, and the Enclave and so on as well as smaller communities that have formed within the wastes. New Vegas takes place eight years after Fallout 3, the previous title. It follows the story of the Courier, who is tasked with delivering a package to the New Vegas Strip however is stopped and almost killed so they must recover the package from those who shot them. The game follows the same lore but relates little to the previous titles in terms of story and only few of the main factions have returned (the Brotherhood of steel and the NCR) as well as some new factions like Caesar’s legion (a group of slavers) and the mysterious Mr House.
Some reoccurring features from previous titles are the karma and the Character system from the previous titles as well as the same combat system as Fallout 3. The Karma system did not fit the game as NV focuses on morally grey choices. Having that system meant that some actions became more black and white rather than focusing on what the player thought would be the lesser evil out of their options. The character system however, was very immersive for the title as, unlike some RPGs, the player is able to build their own character and choose their own perks and traits to build hybrid classes, rather than be restricted to a select few that decide what the player can and can’t do. Additionally, I also enjoyed the return of the combat system (which has had a few animation tweaks) as the game follows a live combat system like Fallout 3 which can be played in third or first person. Furthermore, there is also the return of the V.A.T.S which allowed for more focus on crippling and weakening an opponent with more accuracy.
Some new features are the companion AI wheel and damage threshold systems. The companion AI and AI wheel was quite enjoyable experience and simple to use, allowing one to customise the tactics of to fit the player’s class (for example, as someone who focuses on long-range combat, usually with a slower rate of fire, I could make my companions use short-range to provide more damage per second). The damage threshold system was also quite enjoyable as it made combat tougher; weapons could become ineffective against certain enemies thus making gameplay more challenging.
In terms of graphics, animation and sound the game had quite a few drawbacks and few positives. The setting and graphics themselves were quite good in consideration of the time it was produced – the captured the concept of post-apocalyptic world very well. However, the animations, NPCs especially, lacked weight, fluidity and emotion and the lip synching was quite poor in some moments. This was all further ruined by some of the recycled voice acting in which could become very annoying when heard from the NPC’s around the map. Only a few characters had unique voices (however this was still ruined by poor lip synching). Overall, this ruined immersion.
The soundtrack itself uses its own original music produced by the developers as well as song’s created by other artists which can be heard on the radio stations found in the players menu screen on the player’s pip-boy similar to Fallout 3 (but with a more western theme to the music this time). For example, there are such songs as Big Iron by Marty Robbins that was produced in the 1950s. This has improved the overall gameplay and helps remind the player of the setting there in – especially when in the wastes.
To conclude, this game is value for money – it is immersive, unique and challenging in both gameplay and player choice. The only drawbacks are animations, voice acting and a few contradicting mechanics however these can easily be ignored.

    8/10 for me.
The downgrade on graphics are sad to be honest, I don't even know why, probably because they were rushed by Bethesda to get it finished or some other sh*t, I'm not even the first to cry about graphics but come on, it's 2 years newer than Fallout 3, they could've at least had the same. The story in my honest opinion is actually really really boring. The side quests are okay,

DLCs on the other hand are REALLY REALLY good. It also has an insane amount of weapons, which is really good and satisfying to see. Many clothing items on female characters look really stiff or better said manly, which is also a downgrade from Fallout 3. Being able to finally aim through iron sights was a good move though, a bit weird but better than the old zoom-in style.

albeit having a slow start and jammed with bugs and what not, fallout new vegas is still an immersive rpg title . Unlike fallout 3s plot , the story doesn't seem black or white. choices can be morally grey ; the dialogues are genuinely memorable . its a shame that its full of irritating bugs and glitches. HIGHLY recommended to use fan made patches and mods before you dive in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A spin off Fallout game developed by some of the original Fallout creators!? Sign me up!
This game is set back in the West Coast in Las Vegas, where 2 armies have come to claim it under their flags, The Government of the NCR and the Enslaving Caesar's Legion.
While transporting a package, you are captured by Benny and his friends from the Great Khans. Once Benny has what he wants, he shoots you in the head, thus starting Fallout New Vegas.
If you a major fan of this series, this is a must have as you see what happens to the NCR and other smaller groups after the events of Fallout 2, while also deciding the fate of New Vegas just like in the first 2 Fallout Games. The game is almost identical to Fallout 3, but this is due to a lot of recycled assets used in the same engine, which also means the same gun play. Fallout 3 and New Vegas have very clunky gun play which can be difficult to get used to with most FPS games having smoother controls. However, using the V.A.T.S system will help you through some combat situations. Fallout New Vegas is very similar to the first 2 games in terms of dealing with missions as you can take more diplomatic approaches or violent approaches.
The story is also fantastic and even the DLC's give you another story entirely as you piece together the story behind Ulysses before confronting him in the final DLC. Even if you don't play the DLC stuff, you still get a large host of characters and stories to uncover and deal with.
As a word of advice, this game has aged a bit and is fairly difficult compared to Fallout 3, so I would recommend Fallout 3 first, before playing New Vegas as the gun play is just improved a bit in New Vegas.
This game takes a long time to complete if you want to explore the quests and DLC, as my play through lasted over 70 hours.
Even though the game has it's issues (bugs and clunky controls) This game is fantastic and worth you're time if you love the Fallout Franchise.

Yea, that is how bad it has gotten. I was one of those people that took this game for granted because of my insanely high expectations back then after playing through Fallout 3. But after playing Fallout 4, I sincerely apologize to Obsidian and I really wish we had them helping Bethesda today, because looking back now, this is one of the best RPGs I have ever played.

Now before I get into this, let me just say that Fallout 4 is not a bad game by any stretch, in fact it made one large improvement over this game in the gunplay mechanics. Mostly everything else RPG related, was a downgrade though.

What makes New Vegas one of the best RPGs I have ever played is how it incorporated every RPG element into the game correctly and effectively. This game is not perfect though, it was and sometimes still can be, plagued by bugs, as many RPGs are. Back in the day, this game used to crash so frequently it drove me insane, along with the words "FalloutNV.exe has stopped working" appearing in all my nightmares.

Bugs are to be expected in large open world RPGs, but some of NV's bugs used to be game breaking and downright frustrating at times back then, and I would be dishonest if I did not mention them as the main downside of this game. Thankfully, in more modern times, the game runs a lot smoother and has several official and unofficial patches and mods that help the game run a lot better and make it a hell of a lot more enjoyable. Big shoutout to the community for assembling the unofficial patches and mods that have elevated this game in recent years.

When I really examine what made this game as good as it was, and still is, it just had to be the freedom of choices in the game. There were real consequences for everything you did in the game, and it made sure that you felt them as you progressed through the game.

The attribute/skill point system for your abilities made so much sense back then and did not need to be changed in Fallout 4, it was much better being able to distribute the points into areas that were attuned to your gameplay, alongside choosing perks, than it is to only have the latter available.

And for the love of God, what in the f*** were Bethesda thinking in removing the speech options and turning it into a console-ized 4 button response system/speech wheel??? That was an absolute fail, whereas Fallout 3 and NV had the numerous responses so that you felt like you had a plethora of conversation options, and could ask for every detail of a situation if you really wanted.

Gonna stop with the rant comparison to Fallout 4 and just get into the list before it gets out of hand.

    Pros:

    - Excellent RPG elements
    - Excellent Map scale and Location
    - Actual choices with actual consequences
    - Great group of characters throughout the story
    - Excellent progression system for your character (Skill Points & Perks)
    - Incentivized exploration
    - Actual multiple endings
    - A few interesting companions
    - Great dialogue system
    - Good expansions/DLC questlines
    - Manages to capture the feeling of a post apocalyptic Vegas & stay true to the Fallout series
    - Debatably the best Fallout game in the series

    Cons:

    - The BUGS (better nowadays)
    - Terrible gunplay mechanics (VATS is almost always necessary)
    - Mediocre graphics (improved with mods nowadays)

It is pretty easy to tell by this list that there are more good things than bad, especially now with all of the mod fixes the community has been able to create for this game. It is unfortunate that in its day, this game did not get the love it really deserved, seeing as it was expected to blow Fallout 3 out of the water and correct every error its predecessor had. Back then I would have given this game an 80 and wouldn't have thought twice about it.

Now that I look back on it, and replayed it enough times recently, I can truly appreciate the game for what it was, and what it really is, which is one of the best RPGs I have ever played, and in MY opinion, the best entry in the Fallout series, which I will undoubtedly compare Fallout 5 to.

This game, for me, receives a score of 93. Simply because I hate the gunplay mechanics to this day and that is my only major complaint. War never changes, but my scores do. :/

The combat system is the same of Fallout 3, but you have more weapons, more armors and weapons mods. Also the DLCS are insanely good.

Fallout: New Vegas, from Obsidian Entertainment, is a return to what the original Fallout games set out to be. "A post apocalyptic role playing game." While Fallout 3 wasn't a bad game, it did not offer much in the way of role play. (Though it is leagues ahead of Fallout 4's non-attempt at it)

Fallout: New Vegas doesn't faff around with an hour of backstory or character development. It hands you a blank slate, allowing to imprint any character you want onto it. You pick their back story, you develop their skills as you see fit and ultimately, you decide who you play as.

The use of skills and perks and subsequently having skill and perk checks throughout the game allow you to tackle most problems in a vast number of ways. Is your character socially inept and can't pass an NPC's speech check? Then why not use your intelligence to outsmart them? Use your strength to overpower them? Better yet, why not use your stealth skill and take what you need right out from under their nose?

The shooting mechanics, while still fundamentally flawed, are at least greatly improved with the use of ironsight aiming, though VATS is still available to you as well.

What's more, your main quest takes you across the wasteland, throwing you in at the deep end of an ongoing conflict between two warring factions, which you can join, or simply try and avoid.

Yes, the game is buggy in places, but for a game developed in just 18 months this is a phenomenal achievement and the characters, dialogue and writing are all top notch and well worthy of your time.

Having never played Fallout 3, or had any prior experience playing any Fallout game before New Vegas, I was taken back by just how expansive and story filled the game's world had to offer, and was instantly hooked into the Fallout franchise. New Vegas takes place mostly within the Mojave desert, where the remains of civilization have started to grow in power as multiple factions have set their eyes towards rebuilding civilization.
This game runs very well on most computers, to the point where a standard commercial laptop (With Intel graphics) can run the game on fairly decent settings at a standard 50-60 FPS consistently with mods included. The story expands throughout the entire game's world, with the Fallout 3 RPG system providing the player with multiple different options in conversations and in approaches towards most quests. Obsidian has also added and changed a few things, including skills, which you are able to chose what specific skills your character excels at, with each skill equally useful depending on what the player is looking for. The in-game world is expansive and is not too empty considering the region it takes place in. Like many Bethesda games, there are plenty of bugs in the base game. However, bugs in New Vegas are mostly insignificant or can make the game a little more entertaining at times except for crashes. (I highly recommend you save often to help counteract this). The one major issue i have with the game is that companion quests are very hard to reasonably complete without any knowledge on how they work. It can be extremely easy to miss a quest completely, as you may have already used up every single quest trigger without that companion in the party. Luckily the PC version come with the console, which can be used to advance in quests even if they do happen to glitch or break.
I highly recommend this game, even if your not a fan of the Fallout series, as it is a extensive game with a long supported modding community and on its own stands out as a immersive post-apocalyptic RPG.

I borrowed this game from my uncle for the PS3 about 2 years ago and I got to the Goodsprings or Powder Ganger decision and I picked the Powder Ganger one on accident and then I said "man f*ck this why would you want to pick that, that's so stupid" and then I played Fallout 3 and really liked that. After I learned how the fallout formula worked I went back to Fallout New Vegas to play itI borrowed this game from my uncle for the PS3 about 2 years ago and I got to the Goodsprings or Powder Ganger decision and I picked the Powder Ganger one on accident and then I said "man f*ck this why would you want to pick that, that's so stupid" and then I played Fallout 3 and really liked that. After I learned how the fallout formula worked I went back to Fallout New Vegas to play it again. To put it simply. I have roughly 250 hours on the PS3 version and 180 hours on the PC version.

The reason why I have so many hours on this game and why it's my favorite game of all time is that it's a perfect RPG. A game that allows you to play almost however you want. Fallout 4 was a garbage RPG for these reasons: It didn't let you play as whatever you wanted. Fallout 4 was restricted with it's roleplaying. Had a voiced character and backstory. Fallout New Vegas DOESN'T have a voiced character. Fallout New Vegas DOESN'T have a character backstory. Fallout New Vegas DOES have great RPG elements.

I have 180 hours because of the replayability the game has because you can play as so many different things. Wanna be a goody two shoe character? You can. Wanna be a cruel despicable marauder? You can. Wanna be a flawed chem addict/alcoholic? You can. Wanna be a guy with an identity crisis that can't decide right from wrong and can't decide between NCR or Legion? You can.

I so far have had 4 playthroughs on the PC (Yes Man, Mr. House, NCR, and Legion playthroughs) and 6 PS3 playthroughs and I still can't get tired of this game (the only reason I don't play that often anymore is because I modded it to death and it crashes too often). If you've played Fallout 3, and never played 1-2 you'll probably like New Vegas. If you've played 1-2 and hate 3 you'll idolize New Vegas. If you liked Fallout 4, shame on you. If you hated Fallout 4 and want Obsidian to make the next one, you'll idolize New Vegas. If you love the Elder Scrolls series, you'll love New Vegas.

Although the game is my favorite game of all time it certainly has some flaws. The combat is clunky. The graphics are kinda ugly and the voice acting is very dull. The game crashes a lot and runs poorly like most Bethesda games but most of this can be fixed with mods.
Oh my god mods. Mods. There are SO MANY MODS FOR THIS GAME. And if you dislike almost anything in the game, mods are there for you baby.

    Final Verdict:
If you're a fan of RPG this will be the best game for you, but if you're looking for a shooty shooty game, I'd go for Fallout 4. New Vegas isn't for everybody but there is a special somebody for all of us, and for best of us, it's New Vegas.

    10/10 for sure

I love how this game feels dark and mature, like what you would expect from a post-apocalyptic wasteland scenario. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout New Vegas is the true successor of the original games. With a great storyline, interesting characters, AND CHOICES, Fallout NV is what Fallout 3 should've been. It is of no coincidence that many people that worked on the original fallouts + the canceled Van Buren also worked on this game, as Obsidian really nailed the feeling and the tone of this game.

The storyline puts you in the position of a courier who took a job to deliever a mysterious chip to an engimatic figure of the New Vegas strip, only that things go wrong and a man in a checkered suit shoots you. steals your delivery and buries you. Fortunately, you are saved in the last moment and your task is to pick up the bits and find the man that shot you and recover the chip, which is in fact the key to controling the fate of New Vegas. From that moment, the story evolves into something more than finding and delivering the chip. It deals in politics, ideals and aspirations of factions that want to shape new vegas in their own image. Your actions can permanently change the fate of new vegas.

The characters are interesting, have reasons are are generally likeable. What I like most is that all the majour characters aren't inherently evil or good, each of them have good and bad sides, like real persons. See Bethesda? It's possible. It's also the first time i've seen someone mention Hegellian Dialectics in a game and actually made sence to the context it was used, that was **** amazing. See Bethesda? It's such a shame we went from Caesar and Mr. House to Preston Harvey and Father. Pffffff.

The side quests are plenty, not extremely numerous in my opinion but the number of choices and different endings each quest has makes up for it, giving alot of replayability and freshness. They range from helping a cult of ghouls finish their great journey accross space in search of a new homeland, to investigating a casino because of recent dissapearings, only to find some rather disturbing plot twists. As always, most of the side quests have multiple endings.

And there's so much more. Companions have back stories and sometimes give you quests, Caravan which is a bit hard to get into but once you learn the basics it's quite a fun way to make caps, Hardcore mode is a fresh perspective, mods as usual can improve the game, although it wouldn't be fair to include them in the equation.

Let's talk about some of the things which aren't so good.

Combat sucks and enemies tend to become bullet sponges. Bugs litter the game, both visual and functional, although there is nothing too gamebreaking. Crashes are random so you have to save often. Graphics are outdated, but serviceable. There is a rather annoying overuse on the orange colour which gets stale too look at.

These issues are understandable though, as Obsidian had only 18 months to develop this game compared to the years that Fallout 3 and 4 had.

Overall it's just like in a family. The big brother and the little brother are in the centre of attention, while the middle brother is often overlooked and underrated. That is New Vegas.

    Pls Buy this game. PLEASE.

Fallout: New Vegas grants players the freedom to tackle the world the way they wish and this is in no way a hyperbole. What many RPGs lack in actual player freedom, New Vegas offers in droves. While this absolute ambition eventually causes the game to chug in some areas and its overall stability, its other parts more than make up for what is the best Fallout game to be released.

Taking place in the Mojave desert, Obsidian does right by not continuing the story of Fallout 3, rather just having a new setting altogether with its own lore, mechanics, and factions. Speaking of factions, they are much more fleshed out and less clear cut as opposed to the black and white factions of The Enclave and The Brotherhood of Fallout 3. The NCR, Legion, Mr. House, and the Brotherhood are deeply interesting and have a vested interest in controlling the Strip where your character decides the fate of the Mojave.

Unlike Fallout 3, New Vegas's mechanics support any build you can think of rather than just the typical combat savvy wastelander. New Vegas also does right by having much more gray decisions as opposed to the farcically binary choices present in Bethesda's version of the Wasteland. In total, Fallout: New Vegas is a much closer vision to the originals while expanding upon them. The mechanics in addition are more RPG centric, meaning it is much easier to build a specific class. The inclusion of a survival mode further notions the post-apocalyptic feel to the universe that Fallout 3 couldn't achieve mechanically despite it being visually more representative of a post apocalypse.

The Mojave Wasteland, while not as bleak as the Capital Wasteland, is a much more appealing and mechanically sound area to explore with its design centered around funneling the main character to specific areas of interest should they choose to enact on it. The areas and vaults are much more enticing to explore this time around as they each have either a visual or lore based story to tell in addition to being cooler to look at. Your companions this time around are much more interesting with their own story and sidequest to accompany each of them while they can chime in on the main quest on hand. The main quest pits you as a courier who at first is looking for the man who shot and left you for dead at the beginning of the game but it eventually shifts to siding with one faction over who controls The Strip and eventually the Mojave Wasteland. It's well paced and filled with enough twists and turns that remain in theme with the Fallout name but its the freedom granted in how you tackle this quest that makes it so memorable.

Despite the praises New Vegas might accumulate, it has faulty aspects as well. For one, the ambition and freedom the game possesses leads to hiccups in the now outdated engine used in Fallout 3. Numerous glitches including broken quests, broken AI, and visual oddities to the point of needing a patch. Without mods, the game has a rough look resulting from the use of that same engine. When you finally reach the Strip you'd expect a lively area, but instead you get the feeling that a tumbleweed would eventually roll in.

Given these faults, Fallout: New Vegas more than earns the moniker of the "best" Fallout game since it sticks to what makes the Fallout name so great while expanding upon it with dark humor mixed with serious undertones wrapped in a game that gives player freedom in droves, something that many games who tout the same fail to deliver. Patrolling the Mojave doesn't make you wish for a nuclear winter, it gives you a damn good time.
