It was good, just not as good as Fall Out 3. Graphics are decent, gameplay mechanics are good, FPS RPG, just felt like an expansion to Fall Out 3. Which, by no means is a terrible thing, just felt lacking in substance at times, but overall a good experience.

This game was a blast for me because of all the mini games and the side plots, some of which I must admit were a bit twisted (that's why I loved it!) The game also has a companion feature that lets you to find and recruit companions to help you in tight situations.

I also enjoyed the different feel that the story line had from fallout 3. Instead of the feeling of a society fresh from the ashes of a nuclear holocaust you get that freshness of a society that is finally strong and headed on the fast track to reaching "old world glory".

First off, I'll state my bias: I love Bethesda games. Oblivion, FO3, Skyrim, I loved the hell out of them. FONV is no different in my book, and I don't feel I need to go into what Bethesda does so well. Instead I'll say 2 things. The first is about Obsidian, the designers of this FO installment. They are a studio that, imo, has had a bit of a bum rap over their history. But I think FONV gives us a hint of just how great Obsidian really is. The writing is everything it needs, characters with personality and backstory, humour, tension, politics, twists. All the writing is just so rich. I'd even go as far to say that they overshadow Bethesda slightly. The second thing I would say is a comment about the infamous bugs. Ok, Bethesda games are buggy. But I think I can forgive them that for the sheer amount of content in the game. Is it really possible to develop a game that lasts 10 times more hours than a game of similar budget and not expect a little lack of polish? I tend to not think so, and I appreciate the level of polish they pull off nonetheless. If you like sandbox rpgs, you'll love Fallout New Vegas. Expand

That being said, the game still has some great features. the iron sights are a welcome change, the new weapons and weapon upgrades are very nice and the conflict of the story really make the game very interesting, this game is still a fallout game in my eyes and true fans to the series will defiantly want to play it, I'm just hoping they make the next fallout game more like fallout 3

New Vegas, built with the engine of Fallout 3 and recycling a massive amount of themes and elements from all the previous games (almost all the music from Fallout 1 and 2 are reused) and almost every significant faction makes a reappearance. The amount of content is simply staggering; since the game salvages the cancelled Van Buren's (what was to be the original Fallout 3 prior to Bethesda's involvement) ideas and elements.

The gameplay is extremely similar to Fallout 3 due to technical reasons, but the game has been improved and changed in several ways: VATS has been greatly reduced in efficiency (it's harder to hit opponents with it and the 90% damage reduction is now 25%) and many quests grant alternate solutions to those with the correct skills. Even though speech is still the most important skill for easier quest completion, other skills are also factored in, unlike with Fallout 3.

One excellent addition to the Fallout 3 formula is the fact that you must choose a side. You are allowed to defect and betray factions, but in the end, you must pick a side. This gives the game replay value, something that was lacking in Fallout 3 as every quest pretty much had the same goal regardless of your playstyle; only the means to reach the end changed.

But, the negative. The horridly poor animation that plagues all of Bethesda's releases haunts even this Obsidian release. Characters are lifeless robots, animals move in awkward ways and your 3rd person character still cannot strafe - he or she begins a sort of reverse moonwalk if you want to strafe.

I really would want to grade this game a 7 or 9, because all the elements are there. But I can't, and no one should by any means rate this game above 8 for a singular good reason: it is one of the buggiest games in existence. Missing textures, quest glitches, music playing when it shouldn't, sounds missing, constant crashing, rampant save game corruption and so on. Fallout 3 was not a perfect game but at least you could play it (post-patch) without fear of losing your progress forever. Fallout: New Vegas remains in a permanent alpha-state and is a horrifying testament of Obsidian's technical inadequacies. Fallout fans will love New Vegas even with its flaws. As for the rest... better just buy Fallout 3, because it is nearly as good, and without all that ugliness that the rampaging horde of bugs bring along to the party.

    I think it would be wise to summarize Fallout New Vegas in the following way;

The graphics are not an improvement over Fallout 3 at all.

The voice acting and dialogue scripts are so hideous they will make you want to exit the game.

The Quests are quite well done, especially the DLC content which breathes some fresh life into the stale game.

The atmosphere is well done and you can tell that there was a good effort made at trying to immerse the player in the game world.

What I really want to say though, is that this game is quite unspectacular for a Fallout title. What does Fallout mean? It means witty dialogue, Role playing elements, with just the right sprinkle of FPS gameplay that so many of our Asperger's suffering Call of Duty brothers need so badly. However, in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the RPG, atmospheric, and witty dialogue elements have been completely eliminated. Stale voiceovers from people that you can tell don't give a damn about their roles ruin the sense of immersion. One of the most touted new features, the gun mods, really add nothing to the overall grand scheme of things, except allowing the younger audience to feel cool somehow. I mean... really? Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter? Come on now, what is this kind of dialogue? It gets so stale so very fast.

Moving on, the quests are actually well done, giving your character CHOICE for the first time since Fallout 2. It was a BADLY NEEDED element from previous games and left a smile on my face. I loved the quests even if they were very watered down because of the three pathways you could take in the game. This is probably as politically incorrect as American companies will ever get in this generation of sterile mass gaming, so its nice to see a slaver faction like Ceasar's Legion. I liked the Old World Blues setting as well, with clever dialogue and good quests overall. I feel like the DLC's had better quality quests than the main game.

The graphics are unfortunately hideous. This is sadly due to the fact that XBOX 360 graphics are quite old and the system can not handle many characters on the screen at the same time along with so many textures. They really did have to strip down so many areas to make the game Xbox compatible. Freeside had to be divided into two areas, which is pathetic. I mean, Vegas itself had to be divided into two areas, which is even more disturbing. There is an inexplicable fence that completely and utterly breaks all immersion once you see it. Another thing which irked me so much was this focus on the city of New Vegas itself. I mean, you've got this itch to go and see the place that everyone touts as the last untouched city on earth, and you can see it from a long distance as well. It shines in the night time and it is very alluring to wary travelers in the Mojave. However, once you do get to the city, words can not describe how underwhelming it is. The architecture is very bland, there are limited characters and NPC's. It feels so rushed and it is very disapointing. I would describe it kind of like how the Imperial City felt when I was playing Oblivion so many years ago, but I digress.

The guns, as expected, are really well done and with the help of the modding community this game has a larger arsenal than any of the biggest FPS titles out there, rivaled only by battlefield 3, which really doesn't mean anything at all for a so called Role Playing Game. This doesn't mean that there are no RPG elements here, there are many many more than in Fallout 3 and the system I do appreciate. I mean, they really did a good job integrating perks and traits to make your character feel more unique than the generic Caucasian male that most folks will be playing as. Overall, I would give this game a fair 7.0 on the scale. I wish I could give it more because it is a Fallout title, and I know that Obsidian gave it their all to produce something that is interesting on such a terrible gaming engine and for such a terrible piece of hardware like the 360, but you still cannot be excused because it is what it is. This is a good game that gets rather stale, feels stale compared to Fallout 3 (You will not notice many graphical differences, even the useless clutter items are mostly the same), but has many of the beloved classical rpg elements like traits, perks, gun mods (if they are rpg traits), CHOICE in which side to take on many matters, which enemies to make, which friends to make. But again and again, the horrific dialogue will have you turning the volume down and looking around to make sure no one is watching you listen to such cheesy dialogue as this game has. It is that shamefully written.

Overall, once again, a 7.0 worth checking out for one play through.

First of all, New Vegas in NOT made my Bethesda, but was developed by Obsidian. From a FI perspective the game isn't much to write home about; the gameplay is virtually unchanged save for new weapons and iron sight aiming and the quests are as fun as ever. The most significant difference is the reputation system which dictates how different factions and settlements will react to you. For example, doing favours for someone will increase your reputation with that settlement or doing vice versa will degrade your reputation. The system does produce interesting scenarios from a role-playing perspective but it means little to me as I'm more interested in the world and the quests. The game has a more distinct vibe to it than Fallout 3 despite the main story being uninteresting in comparison, the colourful Vegas looks quite spectacular from a distance. So from a first-impressions viewpoint, I like New Vegas. It still has plenty of interesting quests and I'll no doubt enjoy what the reputation system can offer but for some reason I can't get that interested in the setting. Expand

Absolutely amazing. I have 14 hours in this game in two days. TWO DAYS. I have never played any video game so much. I've never really bought other RPG games for PC but this completely wowed me. This game is so fun and you will just lose track of time in the real world. The only real problem i have is the bugs in the game which really take away from the whole experience.

I can undestand why people are annoyed that the engine of Fallout: New vegas wasn't changed since FallOut 3, but I can't believe after playing this game that it got a lower score. In fact, considering the alternative (I am thinking about how I miss mass effect 1 dispite the graphics improvements in 2 and 3 that sucked)- I wish that every good or decent game had another go like in fallout new vegas, where the graphic is changed but everything else is improved. You probably already heard of the hardcore mod- but this game have so much more. Right- Puting a faction clothes doesn't feel like hitman, sneaking with a silencer pistol and hacking computers isn't like splintercell (Through the minigame is better) And butchering people at the strip isn't GTA (I admit I didn't try that one), but you have the choise and this is what matter. The reputation-karma system is a giant improvement, this is no longer a fight between good and evil which I hated in fallout 3. The brotherhood of steel is in the gray zone again- not evil and not good, but there are much more factions here- every town has its own opinion of you, every gang, tribe, republic- and its working. The gameplay requires that you skip some missions, because if you want to achieve something beyond money you can't just take every contract you are given (Or maybe you can? I didn't try that one either) The ending is great- There are not only many diffrent "big" decisions but you also need to think what are consequnces of you decisions- The NCR give order, but is this what the people of Primm really need? The brotherhood of steel have good people, but won't killing them now prevent an un-needed blood spilling? Is Mr. house really aiming for better tommorow, or did the power made him a heartless crazy old man? Or maybe things will be better off if I will be the one in control around here? And I admit I don't have the answers to all those questions yet- because I made other decisions
Another big imporvement is the companions- Not only easier to control with the companion wheel but also much less linear. Talking to them, depending on the conversation, can reveal new side missions that improve loyality and change how the game ends, at least for those pals of yours. Some companions have different traits and some have different behaviour- like Boone, who will engage every Legion man he sees without asking or caring about the consiquences. My review is already getting too long for most people to read- so I will sum up and say this is a good game, much improved fromt he previous fall out 3 and I suggest getting it when the price is right. I don't agree about this game replay value- The game is big time consumer and is simply too long to play again for me. And thats exactly why I had to make my decisions, and live with them.
Oh and one more thing, this time is bad- For a game that long, with so much hours in the open, I would much expect a much better and varied music- If this game happens in the 2200+, how come the music is from 1500? IS that really all that survived? I know not every game can afford GTA: Vice city soundtrack and talkshows, but come on, I am craving for water in the middle of nuclear desert- Do I really have to hear this old song AGAIN?

Several new features are added, like the several craftable items, ammo types, companion interaction (which is a big part of this game), mini-games and faction system. There's the new Hardcore Mode too, on which you will feel a more realistic scenario, being subjected to thirst, starvation and sleep deprivation and some other changes making you more of a survivor and less of a killing machine.

Unfortunately the game is pretty straightforward, with no possibility to continue after the last battle, coupled with the lack of memorable landmarks, makes New Vegas a bit subpar for Fallout 3 fans. The plot could be a bit more ambitious too, with more emphasis on morally subjective quests and choices.

PS: The DLCs are a must. Each one has a particular theme and new possibilities.

I played on default difficulty and thought it was mostly a cakewalk. The real fun of the game comes from the journey, the interesting characters and character building. The Medic's moans and groans did nothing but make the Heavy's dick harder. Eventually the Medic's anus could no longer stretch anymore, as it fit the Heavy's man-meat like a fleshy anal glove. The Engineer sees their fun and it got him so hot he didn't know what to do. He whipped out his throbbing meatwrench and started stroking it. Unfortunately, his self-love accidentally catches the Heavy's attention. The Engineer stepped out, and said, "Eeeeeeeerecting a dispenser." The Heavy continued to plow the Medic's ass as the Engineer had fun with his mouth. It lasted over an hour, endless anus-stretching and constant amounts of cum, but neither of the three could stop being erect. The only one who had not came yet was the Medic, then suddenly he yelled "I'm fully charged!" The Engineer and the Heavy get out of the way as the Medic came with such force that the poor unsuspecting Scout took a litre of cum to the face. The three men began having fun once more as the Medic stuck his dick in the Heavy's ass as the Engineer began sucking Heavy's dick. The Scout walked into the room, seeing the all-man orgy, and uttered his most infamous phrase "Need a dispenser here!" The Engineer looked at the scout who had his pants down and was bent over a desk. He walked up to the scout and began to stick his **** into the scout's unusually tight anus. Suddenly, the Engineer yelled "Spy's sappin' mah sentry!" The spy had arrived to partake in the all-male **** as well. The Spy brandished his butterfly knife, cutting off the engineer's **** Due to the massive amount of blood flowing from that vital appendage, the engineer promptly fell unconscious. Bethesda lives up to their reputation for bugs in this one (especially). It's so buggy that it won't even launch on my DX11 system with an i7. I've checked every single fix they've listed online, and nothing has helped; I've even updated my drivers. It opens, and then immediately crashes, and I'm not the only one with this problem. 0/10.

New Vegas adds many new gameplay elements, such as the Companion Wheel (makes it easier to interact with Followers), "iron sights" for aiming weapons, more organized factions and the Reputation system (represents the player's relationship with factions in the game), reloading benches (for crafting ammo), a **** of new weapons, a reorganization of Skill types (Big Guns skill is dropped, Survival skill, which affects food and clothing recipes and their benefits, is introduced), and Skill level requirements for weapons. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. New Vegas is just a stellar improvement on the FO3 formula. The new lands to explore (And conquer for some of us) are a fresh start, though the mostly vault-less land feels a little different than your usual Fallout romp. Still crossing the wastes of Nevada and fighting everything from Powder Gangers to Giant Rad Scorpions to Deathclaws is a blast. The story you follow of the errand boy of Nevada gone wrong is intriguing and leads you through some interesting areas to learn of what happened, and exact revenge on someone who wronged you. The DLC that has come out for the game has been pretty fun. I have the GOTY edition from Steam with all the DLC packs and I've gotta say Old World Blues was a helluva good time. The writing in that DLC pack more than makes up for any frustrating pieces. I love the Fallout Universe and it's always fun to go back and pick it up again and play things out in a different way or order than you did before. Great fun :) Expand

IMO the performance is subpar compared to other games with better graphics like the Crysis 2. You see slowdowns to 40fps and you do not know what causes it. Sometimes the terrain loading into memory is buggy. Overall doesn`t look very good, just ok.==============Gameplay is largely the same as in F3, but in F:NV has been enriched plenty. The crafting got a big boost. You can now make anything given if you have the right skills and ingredients. You can make many food, ammo, weapon, explosives, armor options. There has been a lot of weapons added, lots of them are very cool, with many available upgrades which actually change how they feel and play. Iron sight has been added, so the game crosshair is not needed anymore. There is so much of the stuff to gather that it is hard to grasp. The weapon and armor balance has been reworked, so now you can dispatch a heavily armored opponent with AP ammo fairly easily, while HP ammo is to be used on animals. There are up to four variants of ammo for almost every weapon available which is very impressive and enriches the gameplay tenfold.=============STORY. It is cool, not much better from F3 but ok I guess. You can now choose a fraction to ally with, but you can go on with yourself freely if you choose to do so. It is up to you. You have a few of important story variants. The quests are mostly interesting, not only kill or talk. Ther are many interesting locations, with interesting logs to hear and read. IMO the mood of the game is still succesfully postnuclear. Summing it up, playing doesn`t get boring , there is much incentive to keep going, exploring. The combat system in this game is still shallow to be honest.============DLCs are well worth the price and time spent. It gets stale at times, but the story of each dlc progresses at the right moment to keep being interesting. IMO the Honest Hearts dlc is by far the worst one but still ok.===========MUSIC is the same as in Fallout 2 wih some new tunes. To be honest I liked the idea because people added old F2 tunes to the game by themselves anyway. The melodies never get old and pose a great addition to the story. However, the radio from Pipboy is inferior to this from F3. ======OVERALL verdict - upgraded Fallout 3. Expand

It's as if someone at obsidian said "Hey, how can we make a game without putting that much effort into it?" and another designer said "Make it a desert! nothings in a desert, we can just copy and paste until we fill a map!" Obsidian is known for their beautiful work of taking a good game engine, throwing some stem cells at it and creating some half retarded red headed step sister of a game as a sequel. If I need to prove myself check out the sequel to knights of the old republic (and kudos to the online community that took it upon themselves to work on finishing it for free). This isn't to say that the story is bad, but the world that it's placed in seems kind of like a group of kids with some elmers glue and safety scissors took a field trip to a game design craft summer camp. Now I know that bethesda games are notorius for bugs, but this game is pretty old now, and it still has many glitches. Some people I know actually consider the bugs part of fallout new vegas's charm. Fallout new vegas is a great game that will entertain you for hours how ever it is not much of an upgrade from fallout 3 which was released 2 years prior to this game. The graphics are pretty much identicle, along with gameplay. How ever there is nothing wrong with that if you loved fallout 3. If you play the game, you will be impressed by the vastness and level of detail of this world. You will be impressed by how many story branches interconnect, without failing or dismissing the choices you made. You will be impressed by the freedoms the creators gave you (e.g. every NPC in the game is killable) and how the story doesn't fail to progress.

All that, if you manage to get past the terrible FPS combat (it looks like a FPS but can't be played as such), the countless bugs and, most importantly, the SINGLE MOST SADISTICALLY IMPRACTICAL INVENTORY I HAVE EVER USED. Fallout: New Vegas looks like an Add On to Fallout 3, but that should not mean, that it's a copy of its forerunner. It scores with an great atmosphere, nice story and all the typical and awesome Fallout features.
