Normally a game lets u have a lilbit of choices but they all end the same way, this game u do have that in a way but so many situations has so many different outcomes, itsa physical difference. Also right now is a great time to play, its a bethesda game and it shows bethesda did not do proper QA when game was released but obsidian has doen a great job getting rid of alot of the bugs and gliches. The world is immense, so many different factions to join, u have choices and consequences which gives reason to replay game over and over. The DLCs were brilliantly done. Each DLC having a different overtone and moral, but the story and amount of depth charectors have. Also it shows that they worked hard to rebalance everythign in the game to fit as well. Amazing game, and i dare say the newest Morrowind quality game to date. Expand

Let me just start by listing some of the many reasons why New Vegas is better than Fallout 3.
    1. The ability to modify your weapons
    2. A far wider array of factions
    3. A far wider array of companions
    4. A more interesting and immersive atmosphere i.e(not just ruined buildings as far as you can see)
    5. Hardcore Mode(Need I say more?)

Was a bit skeptic at first, being a great fan of the two original Fallout games. But after more than fifteen hours playing, it's nothing but a true revelation. Actually I had waited for a game like this one for so long now !

It just feels like I saw only a very few of what it has to offer, in terms of locations, quests, characters, hidden secrets, and so on (and yet, I saw quite a lot), that I feel dizzy in front of all the possibilities that are offered to me. Offered I mean, never imposed. Because you are not caught by the hand, never. You make your own choices (which are numerous, and almost never simple to take ok, I would still have loved to have even more choices, but that's because I'm insatiable), you make your own way through this giant world, you decide to explore what you want, and often you'll be (happily) surprised by what will happen to you.

I could still discourse for long about all the qualities of this game, the game system, the story, but if you're a big RPG fan like me, and you didn't try it yet, then wait no more, I don't know what you're still doing here

First off, I'll state my bias: I love Bethesda games. Oblivion, FO3, Skyrim, I loved the hell out of them. FONV is no different in my book, and I don't feel I need to go into what Bethesda does so well. Instead I'll say 2 things. The first is about Obsidian, the designers of this FO installment. They are a studio that, imo, has had a bit of a bum rap over their history. But I think FONV gives us a hint of just how great Obsidian really is. The writing is everything it needs, characters with personality and backstory, humour, tension, politics, twists. All the writing is just so rich. I'd even go as far to say that they overshadow Bethesda slightly. The second thing I would say is a comment about the infamous bugs. Ok, Bethesda games are buggy. But I think I can forgive them that for the sheer amount of content in the game. Is it really possible to develop a game that lasts 10 times more hours than a game of similar budget and not expect a little lack of polish? I tend to not think so, and I appreciate the level of polish they pull off nonetheless. If you like sandbox rpgs, you'll love Fallout New Vegas. Expand

From the get go you can go wherever and do whatever you like. You don't like the way he talks? he sounds too king in a scary world? No it's not invincible like in many other games they make characters invincible but not this game... However there are repercussions for your actions. This is what I love about the FO genre, Obsidian and Bethesda don't create the game around a linear story line /characters, what they do is they create a game that the player can play how they want to play it. Now they still have a story line so if you want to hear the whole story it's kind of linear in that sense. I never beat the game though and I didn't have to in order to enjoy it.. How did I enjoy it? Exploring, character progression, different play styles Melee weapons, fisted weapons, Energy weapons, bullet weapons, Sniper, Vats, I'm sure I'm missing something here this is just the top of my head. There are random events, random loot sacks from other (NPC) adventurers. Theres gore! which in my opinion adds a lot to the game, it adds to the awesomeness of the weaponry. I'd say in total there are probably around 150 total weapons give or take a couple, but there are different types of ammo in the game and this changes the damage, the feel, the look of the projectiles and the slow-mo cam destruction of the creature. This keeps the games combat feeling fresh. Going back to what I said earlier though about the game feeling free to do what you want. The NPC's react towards your decision making, unlike in many other FPS/RPG where many characters are invulnerable, killing NPC's in the game has a reaction from others this opens so much possibilities!!! It's like real life it's so complex!

There are down sides to this game though....you may never enjoy another RPG or shooter again! Seriously I can't play half life, the weapons bore me, no exploration, no secret stashes, all hand holding. I might've liked this type of style of shooter if I didn't play FallOut, I can't play Far Cry 3 because I feel like the weapons in the game are being spoon fed to me compared to Fallout where I can barter, loot, and find weapons and sometimes find "unique weapons", in many other RPG/shooters you can't go and play how you want to play it. This is the Fallout curse the only RPG's I can enjoy now are Skyrim and Rage other Bethesda/Obsidian products. Some might interpret it as a bad thing to have this "curse" but it's really not, I just experienced such a good game that other games can't come close. This game is a must have!! I recommend it to everybody who likes open world RPG's/Shooters

At first I'm very skeptical about this game. Many people say it's buggy like hell. But in my experience, which means 100+ hours of gameplay with all DLCs, the game got bugs only 2-3 times (like getting stuck on the rocky surface). And it crashes a lot less than FO3.

Aside from those technical issues and some quirky combat moment, this game is top notch. High role-playing element, many addition to combat (like special attack), a lot of quests with choices, great story that get you involved and really feel like you are a character living and making every decision that will effect the outcome which might be a little change of other characters or a whole story-path.

I was to give it 8 but there is one thing that make me raise it to 10. It is the ending on my first playthrough. It's very impressive. I feel like all my 100+ hours playing this game really matter. Not only the main story ending some of DLCs endings are also great heartwarming, awesome or sad depend on how you complete it

Fallout: NV keeps true to the nature of the original Fallout's while BGS decides to give Fallout a whole new look, to the point where it's hardly even noticeable as a Fallout. New Vegas just feels like what 'Fallout 3' was supposed to be, story and gameplay-wise. The team that worked on it had developers that worked on the original series and the cancelled sequel code named 'Van Buren' and contains story elements from it and the continuity of Fallout 2. The story is set out in front of you, and it's entirely up to you how you want to carry it forward. The gameplay mechanics from F3 carry over with some small and large tweaks, and some of them are made obsolete by new systems.

After the 'vanilla' game is starting to get stale, there are countless modifications players have made to make gameplay or visual changes or completely overhaul the game to make a 'call of duty' style shooter, or a RTS style field commander game, or even a fully loaded casino simulator. If you are a shooter or rpg fan make sure you pick this up, you can find it on steam for as low as $5, so keep an eye out.

To recap, it's not perfect, but it is a lot of fun. Do yourself a favor and get lost in the wasteland.

This is what F3 could have been in the first place, mostly thanks to the work of some of the original Fallout creators. You can really feel they respect and expand the Fallout universe and lore, getting back to some of the legends, characters and even using some of the masterpiece music by Mark Morgan, because they realize this ambient gem is the crucial reason why original Fallout series had such breathtaking post-apo atmosphere, so they bring some of it back. Inon Zur cannot compare to Mark Morgan, but at least you can turn on the in-game radio and listen to the retro or orchestral songs while wandering the Mojave desert, which was one of the highlights of my experience. At first, this might seem like a Fallout 3 v2.0 with a bit of a western influence and I wasn't even too keen on starting playing it after the meh feeling that Fallout 3 left me with, but I couldn't have been more wrong. It might start that way, but it's getting better and better as you progress. This is leagues better than F3 mostly thanks to the fantastic writing, engaging quests, really interesting characters and especially companions, all the different factions you can work for, important choice decisions you have to make and a huge immersive world that I didn't want to leave when I finished the game and that's the best thing you can get from a game. 10/10 Expand

When I heard that Obsidian Entertainment (comprised out of most of the people behind Fallout 2 and some of the developers of the original Fallout) I got giddy with excitement. Then when I realized that it will by published by Bethesda and using their engine I was sad. The reason is that Bethesda are your typical publisher, they don't care about games as works of art, just as products to be sold, this is reflected in both the horrendous Fallout 3, which not only dumbed down Fallout and brought in a load of mouthbreathing amoebas calling themselves "fallout fans" yet they have only played Fallout 3 which stands as the worst game in the franchise.
Regardless, New Vegas was released, it was a buggy mess on release, this is entirely Bethesda's fault, because it was their end of the contract to handle QA and testing, they failed to deliver on that, while simultaneously giving Obsidian only 18 months to develop a RPG, that's downright satanic.
But what about the game itself?
Well, beneath the veneer of fecal matter that is Gamebryo there is an incredibly solid RPG, with varied gameplay, non-linear quests, proper RPG mechanics (unlike Fallout 3), extremely detailed world which fits exactly with the lore of Fallout 1 and 2 (made by the same people after all), which offered interesting moral dilemmas and respected the player enough to not dilute itself into a stupid binary morality children's book that dares to call itself Fallout.
If you liked Fallout 1 and 2, then New Vegas will appeal to you, maybe not exactly from a gameplay perspective, it is using that terrible engine made by Bethesda after all, but it's plot, quests, characters, locations, world and writing are all outstanding and some of the best the industry has seen to date.

The story in this game is the equivalent of the first two Fallout games while the gameplay matches up to that of Fallout 3. This game is simply amazing. Fallout: New Vegas is a game where you play as a courier on a quest for revenge after he is shot in the head (and somehow saved). This game is fun to play with interesting characters, great atmosphere, an amazing storyline and fun gameplay. It was smart of Bethesda to let Obsidian create this game as they still had people who worked on the first two, meaning that the story was great and it had no plot holes (I'm looking at you, Fallout 3).

Fallout: New Vegas takes place in a post-apocalyptic Nevada. On October 22 - October 23, 2077, a nuclear war named The Great War happened between the U.S and China which caused catastrophic damage to both countries. In 2281, Fallout: New Vegas follows you, a courier who was shot in the head by a man named Benny. Why were you shot? Beacuse he wanted to take the item you were delievering, a platinum chip. After you are saved by a robot and a doctor in a local town named Goodsprings, you begin your quest to find the man who killed you, which eventually leads you to the big city: New Vegas, The Strip. While you are on this quest, you will find interesting people along your journey which will make you do tasks for them in return for information, rewards or them becoming your companion. The lore in this game is extensive and is not too little or too overdone.

On your journey, you get caught into something much bigger. You begin to find out that two factions are fighting for control of the wasteland, more importantly The Hoover Dam. The two factions are named NCR and Caesar's Legion. The NCR wants civilisation and law and order to be restored to the wasteland while Caesar's Legion wants civilisation but through enslaving people. You can choose to either take control of New Vegas yourself, help the NCR or help The Legion which makes for interesting decision making. The factions in this game are great and they all feel very unique. The best factions consist of: The NCR, Caesar's Legion, Yes-Man (Your own) and the Brotherhood of Steel. This game also has an interesting reputation system as everytime you commit a crime to one of these factions, your reputation will lower and if it is too low, they begin to attack you on sight. For example, if you are helping the NCR and they tell you to eliminate a camp of Legion soldiers, after you kill them you will be shunned by Caesar's Legion and they will shoot you on sight. If you help one of the factions, your reputation will increase and they will constantly give you rewards and be more helpful to you.

The gunplay in this game is great. The guns feel good to shoot, even though some of them feel weird with weird sounds and animations. While the gunplay is good, it can even be further improved through using mods. Mods will make this game SO MUCH better! They offer a greater challenge and great gameplay improvements that should have been there from the start. Examples of great mods are Project Nevada, Nevada Skies, Realistic Headshots and many others. Project Nevada adds in more immersion, helmet HUDs and much more which really immerses you into the game. Some mods also alter the graphics of the game to match it up to today's graphics while still keeping the initial charm of the original ones.

The world that Obsidian has created is incredible. It's interesting, the atmosphere is creepy and desolate and it really feels alive (Even though it is a dead world). When in cities, you really feel that they put effort into them as there are many missions, most of the buildings have details and they look great. The roads are destroyed, mutated animals and raiders roam the wastelands in hope of food and survival and merchants and traders go across hoping to find someone to trade with for bottle caps. Once you reach Freeside, the town in which you find access to The Strip, you think you have reached civilisation but you quickly find that the wasteland has still corrupted it as thugs roam around and gangs still fight for control.

In conclusion, this game is one, if not the best Fallout game ever made. It was a MAJOR improvement of Fallout 3 and the story matches up to the first two games as some developers in Obsidian worked on the original ones. The game has great gameplay (even more with mods), an interesting story, a good reputation system and factions that are all unique. If you are an avid fan of Fallout or any post-apocalyptic games, buy this game on PC and get mods. You will not regret it!

Needing a high amount of Caps just to get into a small 2-instanced area was.... I dunno, but I'm surprised more people aren't peeved at how weak the gem of the game actually felt. Also, choosing who gets control over it (Ceaser, House, You) offers very littler difference. If you choose yourself, you will not notice anything particularly special about "owning" the Strip. No incentives/bonuses, you still have to check your weapons at the casino's, etc.

The voice acting is another thing I'd like to reflect on. Fallout 3's was pretty consistent, but NV's is a mixed bag. VA's like Laura Bailey deliver their lines effectively enough, but others, like Chanadler Bong's (Matthew Perry) feel rushed and phoned in.

One other thing- the writing. I've seen people say, "I like NV better because the writing was better". Huh? I'm not saying FO3's was better, but I'm saying it's pretty much the same in both games. There are actual deep missions in FO3, same as NV. One does not seem better than the other to me.

Other than that, it's everything you loved about FO3- but more, more or less. More ammo, perks, quests than FO3. The only other gripe I have is the map- it's kind of small and barren. In FO3, you have towns and metro systems. In NV, you have the Strip, some military camps, some refugee camps, and a few (small) towns. I found NV to mostly be sand, whereas in FO3 you have towns and the Capitol Hill to traipse through.

All in all, I'd recommend both titles played in no particular order, as they both offer a great Fallout experience, even if each a little varied.

To me 'Fallout 3' felt very unbalanced in terms of combat, and maybe I was just terrible at it, but enemies were way too difficult to kill at the beginning of the campaign, and it kept me from putting more than a few hours into it my first time around. On the other hand, playing 'New Vegas' for the first time felt much more inviting in terms of the overall pace of the story, and I ended up putting almost thirty hours into it. Take that however you'd like, but my experience with 'New Vegas' was much more enjoyable than my time spent with 'Fallout 3'.

Now my overall feelings towards both of these games may be slightly biased as 'New Vegas' happened to be the first open world first person shooter that I sunk a significant amount of time into, but it just feels like a more polished, better game. This may also have something to do with the fantastic soundtrack that accompanies you along the way of the 'New Vegas' campaign. There's just something oddly entertaining about destroying robots while listening to songs from Dean Martin and the rest of the 'Rat Pack' that really puts me at ease.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a game that you can spend almost thirty hours on before completing then look no further than 'Fallout: New Vegas'. Everyone knows that the Fallout games are amazing and this installation of the series is no different. The environment is fascinating, the characters are interesting, and the missions never get stale. Easily one of the best open world shooters to date, you're a damn fool if you don't pick this one up as soon as possible to sink your metaphorical teeth into as well. Well, what are you still doing here?

As much as I loved Fallout 3, this is what the original Fallout creators wanted to see happen to the IP.

PS: Even though this game is still bringing money into Bethesda's pockets 5 years later, Obsidian was denied a bonus because of the initial review scores posted on this website. They needed to score an 85 on here and scored an 84. If every reviewer did an ultimate edition review it would almost certainly break 85 or even 90 metascore. This is my favorite game. 1st place. I played in it and all DLCs for more than 200 hours and then played Fallout 3. This is not only about RPG+survival. It's about unique atmosphere which you cannot get with many games.
My 2nd place game: Mass Effect 1,2,3
3rd place: Deus Ex all parts.

Fallout: New Vegas its Perfect, adult action-rpg. Nonlinearity of the plot, rich dialogues, loyalty to Fallout LORE, best Role-playing system. Best action-RPG ever. The last real Fallout game.

Though it was shadowed by fallout 3, I found New Vegas much more appealing. The story may have been a bit bumpy, but the game play, soundtrack, and atmosphere make up for that big time. This is currently not only my favorite game of the previous generation, but second favorite of all time.

The story is simple yet not, good enough where I can play through it multiple times and have a slightly different one each time. Combat is extremely meh, but once you get the hang of it you get the hang of it. (except the cazadores **** them)
All around my favorite game, has kickstarted my love of fallout, and can say w/out this game I probably would be a fallout 76 fanboy who just got into the game. I've played each game and come back to each one routinely. Thank you based obsidian

When I first learned of this game I thought, "Ok, so it's Fallout 3, only set in Las Vegas. It's probably interesting the first time you have a shootout in a casino, but the novelty of that has got to wear off pretty quickly." I couldn't possibly have been more wrong.

Fallout: New Vegas is hands down one of the best games I have ever played. It includes everything that was cool about Fallout 3 -- A great role-playing system, terrific gameplay mechanics, an enormous open world to explore and plenty of amusing characters to meet and bad guys to fight. Plus, you can get four DLC add-ons, each of which is a cool game unto themselves.

What it adds is one of the cleverest, most immersive storyline systems you'll find. Plenty of games have "moral choice" systems that alter the main storylines as you play it based on what you do, but Fallout: New Vegas includes four completely different main storylines, each of which can be completed in several different ways. There's also a "reputation" system that tracks how your character's actions affect their relations with the various different human survivor factions and settlements in the game -- and many of those groups are hostile to certain other groups. So doing a favor for one will likely make some others antagonistic. That in turn affects the options in the various storylines.

The result is that the game can be VASTLY different every time you play it -- not just different cut scenes but whole main sections playing out in entirely different ways. I've played through numerous times and it has never once gotten dull.

The PC version is best. There's a huge a modding community for this game, meaning whatever adaption or change you'd think might be fun to see in the game is probably already available for free.

Obsidian took everything we know and love about Fallout 3, built upon it and delivered a game so amazingly orgasmic I am having trouble understanding how it did not win Game of the Year in 2010. The DLC adds an entire other story that actually manages to tie in with the main story beautifully. The Ultimate Edition completes the game but it's still extremely enjoyable without DLCs. Fallout: New Vegas throws away the clunky and buggy gameplay from Falloout 3. A problem in which many of us **** it, this is game is so good I don't care that i have to reload a save from two hours ago. Goodbye friends and family, I will be playing Fallout 3 for the rest of my life." OK maybe not quite like that, but the point here is that Fallout: New Vegas brings that feeling back. In case you still don't understand what makes this game great, Fallout: New Vegas is phenomenal because of the diversity of choices and the effect your choices have on the Wasteland. That is the game's key feature. Sorry if you prefer a mindless, linear and dry COD storyline, but this game KICKS ASS. The replayability and attention to detail, as well as a few nods to Fallout 1 and 2, make me have to declare this game a 10/10. For god's sake buy the game and play it. Fantastic music, characters, weapons, humor, lore, open world, stuff to discover, the mods, and the choices you can make are all the reasons this is the best game of 2010.
