It's among the best traditional WRPGs of the 21st century. While the game's quality may be slightly lacking, it still deserves to be called a masterpiece.

Great fun. Perhaps even more so than Fallout 3 itself. I played it two months after release and even after two major patches, I still experienced two quest-stopping bugs. Also, crashes to desktop were fairly common. Obviously will need a couple more patches until it's near perfect. However, even with those bugs, this game has a lot going for it. There's tons of story and interesting places to explore (it's not all either wasteland or sewers as in FO3). The weapons and combat are enjoyable, particularly with the new iron sights, weapon mods, and unique weapons. The iron sights don't take you out of the action as much as the VATS does. There's a lot more perks and companions plus each companion has a unique perk, so there's a lot of different RPG and tactical elements to play around with. Also, I love Weapon Repair Kits for repairing those hard to find weapons. Expand

Ultimately this is a good game that could be so much better if the developers took more time to work out the bugs. If you can wait a few months while they sufficiently patch the game you should.

Better than Fallout 3 by miles. Almost every issue I had with the last game has been resolved. Crappy dialogue? Fixed. Boring Characters? Fixed. Uninspired story? Oh, it was fixed alright. This Game has gotten a mixed comment with me. It is a typical FALLOUT game, and a such has a great reception with me. The bugs aren't noteworthy as STEAM sorts them all out and i haven't encountered any. The fact that there is no play without Internet is bad, but the additions and all the faithful exploring makes me glad that this game was brought to the public as it is one great RPG.

The shooting mechanics are no better than they were, and the bugs are many and varied. I've seen lots of mobs stuck inside the ground frantically trying to get out and I've had to load a game from 3 saves earlier to avoid a massive and recurring game ending crash. I will admit that the bugs are a miserable thing to live with. (On the first few days of release) after the patches, its fine. Ive got a 9800 Nvidia GT. graphics card, and an amd anthlon 64 3500+ processor, with 3.5 gigabytes of DDR ONE ram, with 200 mghz speed. Windows 7, I get 45 FPS. (Horrible spec's, but if I can get that, you can too!) Anyway, the game is lovingly funny, just a drab landscape. Gameplay is relatively fun. The kiting just got on my nerves. Dozens of hours worth of playtime, I played fallout 3 for 300 hours, with all DLC. very fun. New vegas however, being a little smaller but with better gameplay mechanics balances out everything that fallout3 had flaws with. Except perhaps the drab environment. (What more can you expect? ITS A NUCLEAR WASTELAND) if you are one for RPG with a bit of time on your hands, I would reccomend this over fallout 3. Dont get me wrong, fallout 3 is also an amazing game, they are both very worth the money. The only thing that pisses me off is the invisible game walls!!!!!!! THEY BLOCK OFF HALF THE MAP. Oh well. It feels much more open ended that FO3 and people may compare it to other games around graphics and so on, but unless they have played the original Fallout games they will not understand what a great job Bethesda has done to bring the Fallout world back to life with more Cameos and references from previous Fallout games.
It does have some bugs, granted, but if you play this game for 20 hrs and you feel disappointed with the experience you are given, well, your the type of person that does not have time to stop and smell the roses so to speak. Worth every penny !!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Anyone who complains about the amount of glitches in Fallout: New Vegas, or how it isn't a drastic improvement over Fallout 3, clearly never played the original two Fallout games. If they had, they'd remember how horrifically glitchy they were, how half the quests in Fallout 2 couldn't even be finished, and how there were few changes between the two games. This isn't to say the glitches in this game are "acceptable", but one should expect it in a Fallout game. Now on to the real review, ladies and gents.

As someone who grew up playing Fallout 2 (I didn't, unfortunately, play Fallout until years later, although I loved it just as much), I was thrilled when I heard Fallout 3 would come out. No, it didn't have the same quality of plot as Fallout 1 & 2, but it was a great game in its own right, and I'm proud to own it.

Then New Vegas came out. I was excited, because I heard the writers from the first two games were returning. I wasn't disapointed.

There are numerous improvements to New Vegas (as compared to Fallout 3), including better graphics (in my oppinion, anyway), more difficult game play, multiple ammo types + weapons mods, the new survival mode, a wider array of enemies, improved A.I. (I suppose you could say), more interesting followers, the follower wheel, many more quests, the factions system, an improved karma system, and a much better plot.

I can tell that the old writers are back, and I love it. The sense of humor Fallout and Fallout 2 had is back, and I didn't realize how much I'd missed it.

The plot is much deeper than Fallout 3's, with many different endings and actual SIDES TO PICK. As many of your side quests effect your ultimate ending, you feel more compelled to complete them - and doing so is much more rewarding. NPCs acknowledge your followers, and your followers do more than carry your scavenge and shoot at enemies; you can have actual conversations with them, and end up caring about what happens to them.

There are cameos from old characters, including Marcus, and refferences to the past games all about.

There is replay value, and as (with side quests) it can take you 30+ hours to beat it once, it is well worth the ticket price in entertainment.

Now, for the flaws, and yes, this game has some.

There ARE glitches, although the majority of them have been fixed now. I've twice gotten stuck in mountains, had foes fall through the floor, had the game crash about a dozen times, fallen to my death upon fast traveling, had a follower vanish and a quest has literally disappeared off my pipboy. However, I've put about 70 hours into this game, playing it twice and redoing parts due to error of my own, and the majority of these glitches happened within two days of the game being released.

Like Fallout 3, the game favors a "good guy", and it's very hard to get bad karma without going on random NCR killing sprees. Although siding with the NCR provides you with about two dozen side quests, Cesar's Legion only has about four, and they're all shorter than the NCR quests usually are. It's understandable that Mr. House and the independant paths wouldn't have side quests, but it's disapointing that Cesar's Legion has so few.

The Wild, Wild West trait doesn't do much, and should of had more uses. It isn't worth taking, which is a damned shame.

The plot, while strong, ends poorly, with a "final battle" that isn't awe-inspiring or all that difficult. Armed with the Alien Blaster, I was able to down the "big bad" before I even realized that's what he was. The game starts off slow, and until I got past Primm, I was honestly disapointed. After that, it did pick up, but there is no excuse for such a weak start, especially after a damned good introduction cutscene.

You are still limited to only two followers (one humanoid, one non), at least without mods, which bothers me greatly.

The NCR seems to be a hivemind, as if you kill an NCR member 50 miles away from the nearest camp, you STILL lose reputation with them, even if it isn't an entirely allied character, and no NCR witnesses are around.

Weapon mods are all too rare.

Your guns are taken regularly, and are not automatically put back where you had them, meaning you have to reset your quickkeys over and over again.

    Third person is still useless.

Although it's a good game, Bethesda still has a ways to go before their Fallout games will be perfect.

The crafting got a big boost. You can now make anything given if you have the right skills and ingredients. You can make many food, ammo, weapon, explosives, armor options. There has been a lot of weapons added, lots of them are very cool, with many available upgrades which actually change how they feel and play. Iron sight has been added, so the game crosshair is not needed anymore. There is so much of the stuff to gather that it is hard to grasp. The weapon and armor balance has been reworked, so now you can dispatch a heavily armored opponent with AP ammo fairly easily, while HP ammo is to be used on animals. There are up to four variants of ammo for almost every weapon available which is very impressive and enriches the gameplay tenfold.=============STORY. It is cool, not much better from F3 but ok I guess. You can now choose a fraction to ally with, but you can go on with yourself freely if you choose to do so. It is up to you. You have a few of important story variants. The quests are mostly interesting, not only kill or talk. Ther are many interesting locations, with interesting logs to hear and read. IMO the mood of the game is still succesfully postnuclear. Summing it up, playing doesn`t get boring , there is much incentive to keep going, exploring. The combat system in this game is still shallow to be honest.============DLCs are well worth the price and time spent. It gets stale at times, but the story of each dlc progresses at the right moment to keep being interesting. IMO the Honest Hearts dlc is by far the worst one but still ok.===========MUSIC is the same as in Fallout 2 wih some new tunes. To be honest I liked the idea because people added old F2 tunes to the game by themselves anyway. The melodies never get old and pose a great addition to the story. However, the radio from Pipboy is inferior to this from F3. ======OVERALL verdict - upgraded Fallout 3. Expand

First of all, New Vegas in NOT made my Bethesda, but was developed by Obsidian. From a FI perspective the game isn't much to write home about; the gameplay is virtually unchanged save for new weapons and iron sight aiming and the quests are as fun as ever. The most significant difference is the reputation system which dictates how different factions and settlements will react to you. For example, doing favours for someone will increase your reputation with that settlement or doing vice versa will degrade your reputation. The system does produce interesting scenarios from a role-playing perspective but it means little to me as I'm more interested in the world and the quests. The game has a more distinct vibe to it than Fallout 3 despite the main story being uninteresting in comparison, the colourful Vegas looks quite spectacular from a distance. So from a first-impressions viewpoint, I like New Vegas. It still has plenty of interesting quests and I'll no doubt enjoy what the reputation system can offer but for some reason I can't get that interested in the setting. Expand

New Vegas is a worthy sequel to Fallout 3, a game with it's own unique feel like no other game. The problem is do you like this particular feel For a post-apocalyptic themed game New Vegas is a very lively place. Everywhere you go you find a new location, meet a new NPC or fight new enemies. It almost feels like an atomic war never happened except for burned out ruins covering the land and Geiger counter ticking from time to time. The unique feels largely come from the fact that in this alternate world, when the atomic war happened the world culturally was in the 50s (although technology was much more advanced), and this lead to creation of a strange setting to say at least, full of tremendously absurd and bizarre stuff.
I personally do not like this light-hearted approach and would prefer a more serious approach to the post-apo topic, with a darker and heavier atmosphere (think Metro 2033).

The game offers you a vast world and almost total freedom. You are free to shoot anyone you like, make friends and enemies as you see fit, go anywhere and take anything you want and the world will react to your actions. While this is sounds and definitely is cool, the obvious issue this brought up is the world feeling kinda plastic, not often reacting to your character's actions like it should, which is why you will find yourself sticking to some pre-defined paths more often than not, just to avoid breaking immersion, although if you played F3 you will find here a great improvement over that title.

The Action part of this Action-RPG is not very good. Enemies are mostly braindead, rushing you with meele weapons or just standing in plain sight shooting you. Cover system is non-existant at all. Guns and weapons in general do very little damage decereasing the immersion further it's just not immersive when you have to shoot someone wearing casual clothes 10 times in the chest to kill him.

Here we come to probably the greatest problem of this game, which is the difficulty level.
Even played on very hard the game is just not hard, there isn't any challenge awaiting for you. You faceroll absolutely everything, being a one man army even if you do not pick combat skills, even at lowest levels. It's funny when a squad professional soldiers armed to the teeth warn you to stay away from a certain place because it is full of bandits and they are waiting for reinforcements to take them out, while you can just walk in there on level 1 and stomp them even on very hard of course after you get out they react like nothing has happened, making the world feel shallow and plastic.

Levels are designed terribly, with reused assets everywhere, repeatable locations and cut into cells so small it's often laughable. I know this game is a bit old, but still you see the obnoxious loading screen way too often while travelling through Mojave. If you want to snipe enemies from distance or storm a building full of raiders you can't because the world is basically made of hundreds/thousands of tiny cells, each building floor (sometimes even single rooms) being separated with a loading screen. Wonderful !

The GOOD THING about Fallout:NV is the massive amount of content. There are so many quests and dialogues in this game, so many types of guns, enemies etc. that you won't be bored quickly. There are many ways to solve each quest and obstacle, adding replayability as you can't spec into everything in one game unless you cheat. And there are mods that add even more !

Overall I give this game a good 7/10, spent a good chunk of time in this world, I'm just not into this crazy wacky theme Fallout games have, and this game had many other issues but it was still fun for a long while.
Recommended for Fallout veterans, RPG fans, not really for FPS fans or people who like serious approach.

There's the new Hardcore Mode too, on which you will feel a more realistic scenario, being subjected to thirst, starvation and sleep deprivation and some other changes making you more of a survivor and less of a killing machine.

Unfortunately the game is pretty straightforward, with no possibility to continue after the last battle, coupled with the lack of memorable landmarks, makes New Vegas a bit subpar for Fallout 3 fans. The plot could be a bit more ambitious too, with more emphasis on morally subjective quests and choices.

PS: The DLCs are a must. Each one has a particular theme and new possibilities.

Mainly, the worst problems with it are the bugs, the console versions of the game are definitely more glitched out and you repeatedly run into invisible walls, failed animations and errors that can completely take out a good few minutes of your time. But otherwise, these are sparse and do not fully detract from the experience of Fallout.

Gameplay wise, Fallout doesn't differ too much from Fallout 3 at surface level, but there are some key changes to the gameplay that, in my opinion, make it better. Firstly, skill checks are implemented, instead of having a dodgy percentage system for speech, you now need to have a certain requisite, whether you meet or fail the requirement makes your playthrough unique, and immerses you further into the world of post-apocalyptic Nevada. Another really interesting concept is Hardcore mode, which gives the game a real edge and turns it more into a survival game, as you are forced to take into consideration heavier loads, dehydration, starvation and tiredness, I'd recommend that you turn on Hardcore mode, as you can always turn it off if you feel frustrated about the dehydration element to it. Finally, companions are far easier to manage, the companion wheel really allows you to make more strategic decisions with the companions, while it can seem a little fiddly, compared to opening up a talk box all the time it can cut corners very quickly, it definitely makes using companions more worthwhile.

However, while gameplay is clearly important, it is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me to say that F:NV really blows Fallout 3 out of the water with it's writing. Fallout New Vegas is heavily faithful to the original two games, but isn't afraid to introduce it to new boundaries, the NCR makes a welcome return, but adding Caesar's Legion as the opposing force really takes the karma system in ways that Bethesda could only dream about. Fallout 3 was very much a battle between good and evil, New Vegas is far more complex than that, do you side with the bureaucratic NCR, who want to take over everything yet be unable to pledge their promises? Or the more aggressive and ruthless, but disciplined Legion? Or maybe you decide to go all out against them by yourself or as the pawn of Mr House, the mysterious baron of New Vegas? The multiple depths, pathways and choices you make really matter in New Vegas, making it a far more rewarding experience than Fallout 3. If you look at the amount of quests both games offer, as well as the diversity of voice actors, dialogue, factions, characters, enemies, weapons and overall content, you realize that Fallout 3 gets utterly trumped. While some argue that they prefer the atmosphere and location of Washington DC over the Nevada desert. I genuinely prefer the atmosphere of Nevada. (Irrelevant note, but Nevada even has vegetation! A desert in the middle of nowhere has more life in it than the former capital city of the US!) Another, final element as to why this game is better is because of the humour overall. Obsidian really captured the dark, cynical but also bizarre humour of the original fallout games, one that really sticks with me is a super mutant who comes every night to annihilate a farmer's brahmin with a minigun because he got angry about them making noise while he was asleep.

Overall, while Fallout 3 is a decent game, New Vegas is far superior. Perhaps I am being overly generous with my score, as a game should really be built on the strength of it's gameplay and the gameplay is not strong enough on its own. But this makes me only hope that we can get another 'real' fallout game.

The graphics have apparently been improved, although I didn’t really notice any difference (it looks a bit creaky by today’s standards, but is better than some from the same period). But the main changes relate to gameplay. F3 managed a perfect balance between RPG and shooter. For me, FNV leans a little too far in favour of the role-playing elements. There’s less combat and what combat there is isn’t quite as much fun as it was in F3. Also the main story is less engaging, with emphasis placed on the alliances you forge with the various factions along the way. I enjoyed this aspect of the game but would’ve liked more meat on the main storyline. That having been said all the elements that made F3 so good are still here. The Mohave Desert is another huge open world waiting to be explored. There are numerous quests to be enjoyed, and all the immersive qualities are still there.

A quick note about bugs: F3 was a bit buggy but FNV takes the cake on this score. In the 120 hours I spent playing the game it must have crashed 50 times or more. Save games fail to load as do maps on occasion. I even had a couple of NPCs go missing, one of which was a quest-giver (a side quest luckily). So be forewarned: it can be frustrating at times.

Buggy as hell, ugly as (mainly some textures) nevertheless really fun game with good story and solid actiony rpg mechanics. Dialogues and some colourful characters, some nice touches in terms of dynamic world affected by player's choices and good soundtrack are probably game's best assets.

I enjoyed this but not as much as Fallout 3. Aside from those two points, though, excellent game.

Fallout: New Vegas, from Obsidian Entertainment, is a return to what the original Fallout games set out to be. "A post apocalyptic role playing game." While Fallout 3 wasn't a bad game, it did not offer much in the way of role play. (Though it is leagues ahead of Fallout 4's non-attempt at it)

Fallout: New Vegas doesn't faff around with an hour of backstory or character development. It hands you a blank slate, allowing to imprint any character you want onto it. You pick their back story, you develop their skills as you see fit and ultimately, you decide who you play as.

The use of skills and perks and subsequently having skill and perk checks throughout the game allow you to tackle most problems in a vast number of ways. Is your character socially inept and can't pass an NPC's speech check? Then why not use your intelligence to outsmart them? Use your strength to overpower them? Better yet, why not use your stealth skill and take what you need right out from under their nose?

The shooting mechanics, while still fundamentally flawed, are at least greatly improved with the use of ironsight aiming, though VATS is still available to you as well.

What's more, your main quest takes you across the wasteland, throwing you in at the deep end of an ongoing conflict between two warring factions, which you can join, or simply try and avoid.

Yes, the game is buggy in places, but for a game developed in just 18 months this is a phenomenal achievement and the characters, dialogue and writing are all top notch and well worthy of your time.

There is a lot more to do in the game. Unlike in Fallout 3 and Skyrim the companions are interesting. They all have a good backstory. You can do a lot more with them.
The medicore: The story. It isn't that great. It doesn't have a lot of action in it and it is rather boring. Getting shot in the head, revenge, big dam, blah blah boring!
The setting isn't that great either. Pretty much a desert simulator. Not a lot of destruction.
The graphics aren't as good as they are in Fallout 3. They did improve the lighting but the textures were much worse. They were also pretty sloppy with the character designs. Just ugh.
Now for the bad. The glitches. I was one of the lucky ones who never actually encountered any kind of glitches (Even at release) Many side quests are similar to Skyrim's. Fetch this, fetch that, steal this, deliver that. Annoying.
I have put over 150 hours in 3 of the 4 playthroughs of this game. Get dlc. DLC is amazing. (Dead Money is a little annoying)

Choices to make that can be very hard to decide, especially since you aren't sure of the outcome, will make you wonder, should I have made that choice??

Very customisable, can play the way you want. I love being a sneaky kleptomaniac sniper that picks off enemies from afar and steals everything.

Enjoy having companions, my fave being the eyebot who plays battle/victory music.

The only things I dislike is that getting bad karma when stealing doesn't seem to do anything.
I've sneakily stolen everything I can, but did quests to help out the towns and still end up idolised. I guess my good deeds outweigh my bad.

Weapons and armour deteriorate too fast, making me think that ppl in Mojave don't know how to make quality weapons, but at least I can make my own weapon repair kits, so not too much of a problem.

Game suffers from occasional crashing, freezing and game not loading on first try and area not loading after fast travel.

This is a must play game and I strongly recommend it.

There are a few very notable game-engine glitches and the graphics are dated by most standards but really these things hardly ever detract from having a great game, becoming embroiled in the wasteland and wondering If your character is strong enough to crack the next challenge.

I had originally purchased the game on Steam through a Steam sale because it was extremely cheap and I figured why not, try something new with video games. For the longest time, I hated New Vegas, as I found the beginning levels far too hard to complete, resulting in me taking an extensive break from the game. During this break I decided to read up on the Fallout lore, etc. After about an entire 2 years of not playing the game, I decided to give New Vegas another chance, and boy was I glad I did so. What I did wrong my first time through was that I was flying through the quests far too quickly, disabling me from exploring the wasteland, appreciating the game for what it was, discovering secrets that could give me a little tactical boost, so I decided to change my approach on the game. The story alone is very intriguing, but for first time players, the expansive world and endless possibilities might be too much for one to take in if you are new to these type of games, but you sooner or later adjust, just as I did. While New Vegas may be a good game, whether that be combat wise or story wise, it does have its fair share of bugs. Through my PC playthrough of New Vegas, I experienced a total of 15-20 game crashes, but the causes I could never really determine, it was never something that was in the game. Any bugs that I did experience in game were never something to drop my everything I was doing and write it down so that I should remember the particular bug. All and all, New Vegas is a very good game, especially with the DLC that was released over time (but I recommend doing the DLC missions towards the end of the game when your character is MUCH higher in level). I would recommend that anyone who loves games where any decision you make can alter the story should play this game, preferably on consoles so that you don't have to experience the frequent game crashes, as I did. But if you don't look closely, the game can look nice. I've heard many people talk about bugs in this game, but I personally haven't experienced them. I've only had bugs in Fallout 3. But, despite the few bad things, it has an overwhelmingly great story, characters, and dialogue. The writing is beautiful, funny, and interesting. The story puts you in a place where you have to decide which faction you want to end the game with, and an extra few factions with multiple side quests. While the beginning of the story is somewhat lackluster, it does set up the rest of the game very well. The side quests are normally very unique and fun, with the exception of many fetch quests with seemingly no reason to be in the game. The characters might be the best part of the game, with great NPCs and companions. Probably the first companion you'll get is Boone, an ex-NCR sniper who's wife was killed by the ruthless Legion. He does get kind of annoying when he complains about his wife being dead, but he is the most useful when you aren't in Legion territory (he kills everyone). ED-E is a floating robot that can shoot lasers and taser people. I recommend getting him along as Boone. Lily is a schizophrenic Nightkin who wields a giant Vertibird blade. Not too interesting. Rex is a cyborg dog, not much interesting except his quest for the Kings. Raul is a Mexican ghoul, and is played by Danny Trejo. He's fun to walk around with, but he is awful in combat. Veronica is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel exiled for her questioning the Elder. She's pretty great at melee combat. Cassidy is a whiskey-addicted cowgirl, with a slightly interesting quest, but she isn't that great. The last companion is Arcade, a Followers of the Apocalypse doctor and is my favorite to talk to hang around. He doesn't have much use except for his side quest which is a must-need. Exploring the wasteland is better than Fallout 3, with a larger map and more interesting locations. The DLC is arguably better than Fallout 3, and you should definitely buy it. I've played all of the fallout games, even Brotherhood of Steel on PS2. So I mean it when I say that Fallout: New Vegas is, in ranking, the 4th worst and the 4th best. Don't get me wrong it's still a very good game but it has issues.

Gameplay in New Vegas is a bit similar to Fallout 3's gameplay but with a few added features. You can play from either a 3rd or 1st person perspective and explore this huge open world that is the Mojave Wasteland. You will find tons of stuff to do in the wasteland and it's probably the 2nd biggest Fallout game, considering content (behind Fallout 2.) It adds a hardcore mode which turns the game into a survival game where you need to drink, eat, limbs don't heal automatically but instead heal over time, doctor's bags are the only things that can heal limbs. I really like the addition of the hardcore mode and I find it a shame that they cut it out of fallout 4. So aside from that change the gameplay is the same as Fallout 3 however it crashed more than Fallout did and it has more glitches than Fallout 3 did and this happened on a regular basis around once an hour which is probably my biggest complaint about the game. Bethesda please patch this.

The story in New Vegas is that you're a courier who was delivering a package only for a guy to come over, shoot you in the head and leave you for dead. But, you're patched up by a doctor of a local settlement and you then set out to find the guy who shot you and take back your package. Yes, this story has been done quite a few times but the story changes partway through and feels like one of the most epic stuff I've ever done. I'm not going to spoil anything though, all I'm going to say is it changes about 5 quests in. So the opening plot isn't good but the second plot is amazing. Also, like other Fallout games, you can meander off and do side quests but I tend to not do that as I prefer to get the main quest out of the way so there's nothing to get in my way.

Graphics are good but could easily be better. It definitely looks like a wasteland and everything looks like what it's meant to be but all I'm going to say is thank god the modders stepped in. Sound is amazing. If you're wandering around the wasteland in the evening, you can hear crickets and wildlife and in the morning you can hear crows, people socialising and all sorts.

There isn't much need for replay value as you won't be able to start again due to you still being busy discovering new things in the wasteland. For example, this game has been out since 2010 and I just discovered 3 weeks ago, a deathclaw camp which I never knew about before and was on for a solid 40 minutes fighting them with my 2 followers (Boone and ED-E.) You will easily sink over 200 hours into this (I played this on PS3 before that's why there isn't as much hours on my account)

I highly recommend Fallout New Vegas even if you've touched a video game. It's a great western, a great open world game and a great RPG and an OK survival game (in hardcore mode.)

DLCs on the other hand are REALLY REALLY good. It also has an insane amount of weapons, which is really good and satisfying to see. Many clothing items on female characters look really stiff or better said manly, which is also a downgrade from Fallout 3. Being able to finally aim through iron sights was a good move though, a bit weird but better than the old zoom-in style.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A spin off Fallout game developed by some of the original Fallout creators!? Sign me up!
This game is set back in the West Coast in Las Vegas, where 2 armies have come to claim it under their flags, The Government of the NCR and the Enslaving Caesar's Legion.
While transporting a package, you are captured by Benny and his friends from the Great Khans. Once Benny has what he wants, he shoots you in the head, thus starting Fallout New Vegas.
If you a major fan of this series, this is a must have as you see what happens to the NCR and other smaller groups after the events of Fallout 2, while also deciding the fate of New Vegas just like in the first 2 Fallout Games. The game is almost identical to Fallout 3, but this is due to a lot of recycled assets used in the same engine, which also means the same gun play. Fallout 3 and New Vegas have very clunky gun play which can be difficult to get used to with most FPS games having smoother controls. However, using the V.A.T.S system will help you through some combat situations. Fallout New Vegas is very similar to the first 2 games in terms of dealing with missions as you can take more diplomatic approaches or violent approaches.
The story is also fantastic and even the DLC's give you another story entirely as you piece together the story behind Ulysses before confronting him in the final DLC. Even if you don't play the DLC stuff, you still get a large host of characters and stories to uncover and deal with.
As a word of advice, this game has aged a bit and is fairly difficult compared to Fallout 3, so I would recommend Fallout 3 first, before playing New Vegas as the gun play is just improved a bit in New Vegas.
This game takes a long time to complete if you want to explore the quests and DLC, as my play through lasted over 70 hours.
Even though the game has it's issues (bugs and clunky controls) This game is fantastic and worth you're time if you love the Fallout Franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout NV an action-based RPG set in a post-apocalyptic America, more specifically, Nevada. The game was a collaboration between Bethesda (who have produced other similar RPGs like Skyrim, Oblivion and the other Fallout titles) and Obsidian Entertainment back in 2010. This is available on PC, PlayStation as well as Xbox (However, mods are only accessible on PC unlike the later titles that Bethesda has released). Again, similar to their previous titles, the game is aimed at an older audience due to its use of mature themes (violence, drug use, gambling, etc.).
New Vegas is a continuation of the Fallout Series – a set of games that focus on a post-apocalyptic North America in which has been targeted during a nuclear war, known as the ‘Great War’ of 2077 which was caused by the shortage of fossil fuels and a global energy crisis. The universe itself, splits of from the 1940s/50s and follows a different root of the events of the wars fought then. The game contains uses of 40s and 50s ideals, fashion, architecture, etc. but has its own futuristic twists. However, the series itself takes place over a hundred years later, when America is nothing but a wasteland full of radiation. Over these hundred years, many factions have risen such as the Brotherhood of steel, the NCR, and the Enclave and so on as well as smaller communities that have formed within the wastes. New Vegas takes place eight years after Fallout 3, the previous title. It follows the story of the Courier, who is tasked with delivering a package to the New Vegas Strip however is stopped and almost killed so they must recover the package from those who shot them. The game follows the same lore but relates little to the previous titles in terms of story and only few of the main factions have returned (the Brotherhood of steel and the NCR) as well as some new factions like Caesar’s legion (a group of slavers) and the mysterious Mr House.
Some reoccurring features from previous titles are the karma and the Character system from the previous titles as well as the same combat system as Fallout 3. The Karma system did not fit the game as NV focuses on morally grey choices. Having that system meant that some actions became more black and white rather than focusing on what the player thought would be the lesser evil out of their options. The character system however, was very immersive for the title as, unlike some RPGs, the player is able to build their own character and choose their own perks and traits to build hybrid classes, rather than be restricted to a select few that decide what the player can and can’t do. Additionally, I also enjoyed the return of the combat system (which has had a few animation tweaks) as the game follows a live combat system like Fallout 3 which can be played in third or first person. Furthermore, there is also the return of the V.A.T.S which allowed for more focus on crippling and weakening an opponent with more accuracy.
Some new features are the companion AI wheel and damage threshold systems. The companion AI and AI wheel was quite enjoyable experience and simple to use, allowing one to customise the tactics of to fit the player’s class (for example, as someone who focuses on long-range combat, usually with a slower rate of fire, I could make my companions use short-range to provide more damage per second). The damage threshold system was also quite enjoyable as it made combat tougher; weapons could become ineffective against certain enemies thus making gameplay more challenging.
In terms of graphics, animation and sound the game had quite a few drawbacks and few positives. The setting and graphics themselves were quite good in consideration of the time it was produced – the captured the concept of post-apocalyptic world very well. However, the animations, NPCs especially, lacked weight, fluidity and emotion and the lip synching was quite poor in some moments. This was all further ruined by some of the recycled voice acting in which could become very annoying when heard from the NPC’s around the map. Only a few characters had unique voices (however this was still ruined by poor lip synching). Overall, this ruined immersion.
The soundtrack itself uses its own original music produced by the developers as well as song’s created by other artists which can be heard on the radio stations found in the players menu screen on the player’s pip-boy similar to Fallout 3 (but with a more western theme to the music this time). For example, there are such songs as Big Iron by Marty Robbins that was produced in the 1950s. This has improved the overall gameplay and helps remind the player of the setting there in – especially when in the wastes.
To conclude, this game is value for money – it is immersive, unique and challenging in both gameplay and player choice. The only drawbacks are animations, voice acting and a few contradicting mechanics however these can easily be ignored.

The best part of trying to revive the series. The game has a full, coherent, solid plot. Inherently debugged and completed part of the series 3

Впервые вижу игру, оценки которой от игроков выше чем от критиков, но игра реально неплохая и заслуживает даже более высокой оценки.

Honestly it is a decent game, the characters and setting are amazing and it is an all round fun time. I found the DLC's a bit disappointing but the main game is great.

Finished the game only from second attempt, which tells how slow is the story told. Interesting characters, some curious quests, enough role-playing in choices and customization. Cumbersome inventory management, frequent travelling, long empty roads, short play-list. Enjoyed this game though it has serious flaws. 8/10

Great game. The world is really cool Ton of interesting side quests and the main story is great. Combat is decent but lacking. It doesn't have as many amazing stand out moments as Fallout 3 but overall it's more consistent which makes it better to me.

One of the best games I've ever played. The game is very similar to Fallout 3 yet feels different and definitely better. 8/10.

It is not a direct sequel, but does feature the return of several elements found in Fallout 2. Expand

Fallout: New Vegas looks like an Add On to Fallout 3, but that should not mean, that it's a copy of its forerunner. It scores with an great atmosphere, nice story and all the typical and awesome Fallout features.
