Everything I loved about this DLC. The Divide, it's ruins, and the storm is very awe-inspiring and Fallout-like. The weapons are some of the best out of all the DLC. The story is atmospheric and suspenseful, with a few twists also and an ending epic as ever, whether you side with Ulysses or not. Explains a lot.

I thought this quest expansion for Fallout: New Vegas was actually pretty good. Sure, it's kind of difficult to complete, but still a pretty good add-on. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I simply love this dlc. It's the best dlc I ever saw - it isn't just a dlc it is an ecperiance. Lonesome Road gave me an unique point of view on my entire gaming ecperiance, this dlc isn't for "fun" - this dlc makes you think more about games and your deeds in them ! Whole time LR is trying to make player think, try to give player a reflection - and this reflextion isn't just in one moment in dlc but reflextions you can gain at every single step in it. What is more the antagonist in LR is the best written character in not only in Fallout New Vegas but also (in mine opinion) in entire gaming industry ! Something like that you cannot simply achieve - he is challenging, deep, intelligent, had his own point of view and history. About graphic .. well I can say that graphic isn't important, all what you can see in this dlc is the best what old Gamebryo could gave us. Place of dlc is very interesting, enemies aree hard to kill, new items are fun and our companion in it finally have their history. Lonesome Road is a dlc which want only player ask themselves "who am I ?" This question is not only directed to the Courier but also to ourselves. And for this - for speaking with real person instead of program (antagonist), for challenge to mine hero, for really emotional (this dlc can do miracles when it comes to gave me emotions) journey through this road, for reflections, questions and anserws, for cute companion, for the best storyline, climat of serie with music of Mark Morgan and this last views on dying graphic engine - I give 10/10 Expand

This was my favorite Fallout dlc by far, it ditches the comical aspect of old world blues for a near depressing, silent road with no one around you. It really emphasizes that YOU did this YOU created this deathtrap. I could go on and on about the gameplay and the amazing character of Uylsses, but Ill leave that for now

On the whole this was an excellent, atmospheric DLC with plenty of new equipment, new foes, and a conclusion to the story of Ulysses that was hinted at throughout all of the DLCs. The DLC's only true downfall is its unnaturally high linearity (for a Fallout game). However, the level design was so well done I personally wasn't bothered by the change of pace.

Lonesome Road gives the game difficulty it needs compared to the Mojave. If you were able to stand the train stations in Fallout 3, the environments here won't be a problem. The atmosphere is a weak point, but it's meant to be bleak because of the subject nature. ED-E here is probably the companion with the overall best characterization, due to Ulysses ending up as a non-companion character. Red Glare managed to beat out the Missile Launcher as a weapon, and the Shoulder-Mounted Machine Gun covers the Minigun's weak points while still keeping some of the strengths, like a decent magazine size and a relatively-decent fire rate that still puts down bullets without draining ammo like a bullet hose Minigun does. Fallout New Vegas DLC's in general have been up and down, with a pretty bleak, but commendable, start with Dead Money, a huge dip with Honest Hearts, and prior to Lonesome Road, a less-than-stellar try to reintroduce science with Old World Blues. Lonesome Road, in my opinion, (aside from the hellish delay) was a huge success both for New Vegas and Bethesda. It brought the Courier's back-story to a satisfying and full ending. This DLC revolved around the mysterious character of Ulysses, who's been referenced in all the other DLC's, as well as the game itself. Now, with this expansion, all loose ends are tied up, all unanswered questions are answered and more importantly, an otherwise incomplete game became complete.

Friendly advice to get the full experience: Play the DLC's in order. So, play this one last. Do this before you visit the New Vegas strip. That way, you'd have explored an extensive amount of the Mojave Wasteland and leveled up you character enough, so that it can tolerate the difficulty of the DLC. And most importantly, take you time. There is a large temptation to just rush through this DLC, and not complete the challenges along the way. So, draw it out a little, don't do it all in one day and make sure you truly get the most out of what it has to offer.

This weekend, I decided to give LR another shot and this time I really listened to Ulysses (I think I somewhat finally get him), explored every location and it turned out to be almost as rewarding as playing the Old World Blues, just in a completely different way.
The DLC considerably expands the F:NV story in beautiful and thought-provoking ways (I seriously mean it and I know the word sounds lame-ish Oh and I really didn't mind the linearity at all, because to me it was more about exploring the hauntingly cool place that is The Divide, than being able to go in any direction.
TL;DR: The Lonesome Road can be awesome and rewarding (not just loot-wise) if you give it a chance, accept the way it's narrated and don't treat Ulysses like a pseudo-intellectual hippie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lonesome Road so far has gotten a lot of hate for being linear and boring, however I think it is probably the best DLC out of the four. As mentioned there many new toys to play with(or sell) as well as a couple of cool new mechanics. Yes the combat and caches of enemies can be a little tedious at times, the story line completely makes up for this.
Throughout the DLC you are bringing two story arcs to a close, that being ED-E's and also the couriers. How anyone could say that's lazy writing is beyond me. As far as the main game is concerned there was never to much information on the courier like; their home, family or other misc things. That is why this DLC is so great, it provides an additional storyline that describes the couriers past as well as ED-E's.

DLC stands out for it's heavy and gloomy atmosphere. Wandering the Divide is a very different experience than walking the Mojave desert - it feels more like Fallout 1 reborn in 3D than another desert segment of the world. Lonesome Road has it's own magic that I recommend to try. Worth to mention - it's literally the only DLC for New Vegas I had no technical issues with. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Given all the foreshadowing of Ulysses' character in the previous DLCs, I expected a game-breaking finality, something that Lonesome Road doesn't really have. Instead we have a character accusing us (the player) of doing something we have no memory of and thus is for the most part disconnected with our experience.
That aside, the gameplay aspect is (as ever) top notch, environments, NPCs through to the easter eggs are excellent and well implemented.

How do you finish an epic story like this? How do you tie up the loose ends? How do you explain everything? Well, you cop out and reveal that they're all in purgatory and... Oh wait, this isn't a review for the LOST finale? Oh my bad.

    You see, Lonesome Road is like the end of LOST. You've spent so much damn time and money getting there that almost anything could be the end, just so you can sleep at night without worrying how it's all going to end. You want answers dammit! Ulysses sounds like an epic character, and he probably is, but he babbles and make no sense. He claims the NCR don't have the answer. Or Legion, Or House. But doesn't really give us his ideas, other than a 'clean slate,' which is what all of these organisations started with anyway;

To put it another way, Ulysses is like a stoner; frustrated with how things are run, but not actually doing anything constructive. There is a great air of finality about this DLC, fuelled by our curiousness into why he hates us. But Lonesome Road is VERY linear. I know it's a raod, but you can't choose to go to places before others. Not much exploring. Very story driven, at one point you listen to him for around 8 minutes. Some cool designs, Ulysses is interesting but ultimately flawed because he's so cague. Like LOST, you know you've been a little robbed, but you're just glad you got there.

Unlike previous DLCs, Lonesome Road is incredibly narrow with few opportunities to deviate from the main path. Unless you dumped enough points into your sneaking ability, you will do a hefty load of shooting, which becomes numbing throughout this 3 hour ride.

The lore is the reason any Fallout fan would appreciate in this DLC since the catchphrase "War never changes." is reflected beautifully in the desolate landscape of the Divide and the stories that lie within. Ulysses himself is a great character but he is your only cache of story bits in terms of direct storytelling aside from the recurring ED-E who accompanies you for this final journey.

In many ways Lonesome Road has the credentials to be the best of the DLC bunch with the amazing tone, characterization, and action setpieces. Too bad it does not support playstyles and it becomes numbing from all the gung-ho destruction in replacement of the occasional dark humor, which is painfully absent.

A frustrating part of this DLC is that deathclaws will spawn from scripted events. Since deathclaws are extremely fast and kill any level character in 2 hits, this means you absolutely must have explosives with you, and you'll need to quicksave/quickload a lot. That removes something from the adventure of the game because it breaks the immersion.

In the end, is this DLC worth buying? I suppose it's worth $5. If you ignore the plot, it's still a few hours of fun.
