I thought this quest expansion for Fallout: New Vegas was actually pretty good. Sure, it's kind of difficult to complete, but still a pretty good add-on. I anticipated a more bizarre story, but overall, this was not that bad. I agree with some of the other reviewers when they say Dead Money was intense. Lonesome Road is linear and not a very big addon. Still it provided me with a lot of fun although it's not very difficult to impress me since Fallout is my favourite series of all time so i love every new gun/item and enemy in the game. Fallout New Vegas DLC's in general have been up and down, with a pretty bleak, but commendable, start with Dead Money, a huge dip with Honest Hearts, and prior to Lonesome Road, a less-than-stellar try to reintroduce science with Old World Blues. Lonesome Road, in my opinion, (aside from the hellish delay) was a huge success both for New Vegas and Bethesda. It brought the Courier's back-story to a satisfying and full ending. This DLC revolved around the mysterious character of Ulysses, who's been referenced in all the other DLC's, as well as the game itself. Now, with this expansion, all loose ends are tied up, all unanswered questions are answered and more importantly, an otherwise incomplete game became complete.

Friendly advice to get the full experience: Play the DLC's in order. So, play this one last. Do this before you visit the New Vegas strip. That way, you'd have explored an extensive amount of the Mojave Wasteland and leveled up you character enough, so that it can tolerate the difficulty of the DLC. And most importantly, take you time. There is a large temptation to just rush through this DLC, and not complete the challenges along the way. So, draw it out a little, don't do it all in one day and make sure you truly get the most out of what it has to offer.

Lonesome Road is by no means a welcoming and hold-your-hand type of DLC. When I played it for the first time, I didn't really like it and most of the time, I had no idea what Ulysses was talking about. But then I realized I didn't really give it a chance and didn't really TRY to understand what the story was about.

This weekend, I decided to give LR another shot and this time I really listened to Ulysses (I think I somewhat finally get him), explored every location and it turned out to be almost as rewarding as playing the Old World Blues, just in a completely different way.
The DLC considerably expands the F:NV story in beautiful and thought-provoking ways (I seriously mean it and I know the word sounds lame-ish Oh and I really didn't mind the linearity at all, because to me it was more about exploring the hauntingly cool place that is The Divide, than being able to go in any direction.
TL;DR: The Lonesome Road can be awesome and rewarding (not just loot-wise) if you give it a chance, accept the way it's narrated and don't treat Ulysses like a pseudo-intellectual hippie.

is more like an 8.5 than an 8. But i guess i cant give half points here on Metacritic.
BTW the DLC is different from the main game for sure, is more linear. Less roaming. The story is gold though. And the ending is/could be REALLY good in my opinion.
I dont think a more linear DLC is bad by any mean. It's just different. It has a more post-apocalyptic vibe than the base game probably

Lonesome Road is the second best expansion to Fallout New Vegas (second only to Old World Blues). Writing might not be as witty as the one in the base game or OWB, but it has it's moments. DLC stands out for it's heavy and gloomy atmosphere. Wandering the Divide is a very different experience than walking the Mojave desert - it feels more like Fallout 1 reborn in 3D than another desert segment of the world. Lonesome Road has it's own magic that I recommend to try. Worth to mention - it's literally the only DLC for New Vegas I had no technical issues with. No gamebreaking bugs, no game crashes, everything worked just fine, which is quite an achievement if you think about the base game itself. Expand

This was my favorite Fallout dlc by far, it ditches the comical aspect of old world blues for a near depressing, silent road with no one around you. It really emphasizes that YOU did this YOU created this deathtrap. I could go on and on about the gameplay and the amazing character of Uylsses, but Ill leave that for now

Lonesome Road gives the game difficulty it needs compared to the Mojave. If you were able to stand the train stations in Fallout 3, the environments here won't be a problem. The atmosphere is a weak point, but it's meant to be bleak because of the subject nature. ED-E here is probably the companion with the overall best characterization, due to Ulysses ending up as a non-companion character. Red Glare managed to beat out the Missile Launcher as a weapon, and the Shoulder-Mounted Machine Gun covers the Minigun's weak points while still keeping some of the strengths, like a decent magazine size and a relatively-decent fire rate that still puts down bullets without draining ammo like a bullet hose Minigun does. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lonesome Road so far has gotten a lot of hate for being linear and boring, however I think it is probably the best DLC out of the four. As mentioned there many new toys to play with(or sell) as well as a couple of cool new mechanics. Yes the combat and caches of enemies can be a little tedious at times, the story line completely makes up for this.
Throughout the DLC you are bringing two story arcs to a close, that being ED-E's and also the couriers. How anyone could say that's lazy writing is beyond me. As far as the main game is concerned there was never to much information on the courier like; their home, family or other misc things. That is why this DLC is so great, it provides an additional storyline that describes the couriers past as well as ED-E's.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I simply love this dlc. It's the best dlc I ever saw - it isn't just a dlc it is an ecperiance. Lonesome Road gave me an unique point of view on my entire gaming ecperiance, this dlc isn't for "fun" - this dlc makes you think more about games and your deeds in them ! Whole time LR is trying to make player think, try to give player a reflection - and this reflextion isn't just in one moment in dlc but reflextions you can gain at every single step in it. What is more the antagonist in LR is the best written character in not only in Fallout New Vegas but also (in mine opinion) in entire gaming industry ! Something like that you cannot simply achieve - he is challenging, deep, intelligent, had his own point of view and history. About graphic .. well I can say that graphic isn't important, all what you can see in this dlc is the best what old Gamebryo could gave us. Place of dlc is very interesting, enemies aree hard to kill, new items are fun and our companion in it finally have their history. Lonesome Road is a dlc which want only player ask themselves "who am I ?" This question is not only directed to the Courier but also to ourselves. And for this - for speaking with real person instead of program (antagonist), for challenge to mine hero, for really emotional (this dlc can do miracles when it comes to gave me emotions) journey through this road, for reflections, questions and anserws, for cute companion, for the best storyline, climat of serie with music of Mark Morgan and this last views on dying graphic engine - I give 10/10 Expand

    - no side quests
    - i GUESS it'll get boring when you play it more than one time, because there like only 2 choices you can make

I think this DLC had some good and some bad, but mostly good. The bad first: The monsters/monster people weren't that interesting and the only NPC interaction you have is with Ulysses and ED-E (and he only beeps). The good: it looks as though the developers actually spent a good deal of time developing the zone. Buildings are collapsed at an angle and the views of the zone are all pretty cool. The new weaponry is always welcome (and we finally got a Deathclaw Gauntlet!). You get some cool options at the end of the DLC (no spoilers here). Everything I loved about this DLC. The Divide, it's ruins, and the storm is very awe-inspiring and Fallout-like. The weapons are some of the best out of all the DLC. The story is atmospheric and suspenseful, with a few twists also and an ending epic as ever, whether you side with Ulysses or not. Explains a lot.

On the whole this was an excellent, atmospheric DLC with plenty of new equipment, new foes, and a conclusion to the story of Ulysses that was hinted at throughout all of the DLCs. The DLC's only true downfall is its unnaturally high linearity (for a Fallout game). However, the level design was so well done I personally wasn't bothered by the change of pace.

Do not waste your money on this trainwreck. If you really want to know how it ends, go to the Fallout Wikia and read the article on Ulysses.
