Let's not lie, we all bought this for the mini-nuke case, so that's where my score will be heavily based! So let's begin with that. I wasLet's not lie, we all bought this for the mini-nuke case, so that's where my score will be heavily based! So let's begin with that. I was expecting it to be made of tin, or some metal, but unfortunately, it isn't - it's thin plastic. It's not terribly thin, but it's clearly cheaply constructed, and the pieces don't appear glued together, but rather fitted, so they can be a little loose. Even with using metallic paints, it takes away from the look of the thing, and the attention to detail isn't bad, such as 'rust' painted on the screws, but it's somewhat lackluster, in other areas, like the scratches not matching up between the lid and body of the case.
The other major feature of the case is the bomb sound. Well... I didn't expect it to be much, and the sound quality is just a little better than something from a novelty greetings card, which is what I expected. I wasn't too annoyed at that, but the big warning label saying "Warning, Keep away from Children under 12" takes away from the look of the case, making it kind of a novelty item as opposed to something you could use as a cosplay prop, which undoubtedly some people will do. The sound it makes is just a whistle like a mortar followed by a typical explosion and a "cha-ching" sound (unsure if these appear in game, outside of the "cha-ching" from gaining exp. The "cha-ching" is more like what Bethesda are hearing all the time since pre-orders started for Fallout Anthology.
Inside, the discs are held in just above acceptable quality card cases, and there is an empty one for your Fallout 4 disc. There's not much to say there. With Fallout New Vegas, you do get the ultimate edition, which gives you some bonus starting weapons / armour (very useful). I think £40 (or whatever it cost American / Australian buyers) was an acceptable price, given the likelihood of resale price on eBay to collectors.
What would have made this better? The case should have been tin, although it would bump the price up, i'd be willing to pay it. The disc cases should have been less flimsy. More attention to detail on the case paintwork. The warning sticker on the sound button is a health and safety necessity, but still... I also felt it maybe should have included the incomplete Van Buren (albeit very unlikely / impossible to do on the part of Bethesda), or at least a little something else, like the top or side of the bomb opening to reveal a load of wires and whatnot, or a smaller collectible like a token, coin, pendant, or something like that.
Overall just about worth £40.… Expand
