I have played a lot of MMORPGS over the years and that's what this is basically. If you don't like fetch quests, running long distances, lots of text to read if you want story of any kind, then do not play. I give it a solid 9 out of 10 though. Expand

So lets talk about what this game isn't since I feel people had expectations that weren't met. If you want a high risk pvp game like Rust or Ark where getting killed, raided and eventually wiped is 100% expected and you love the thrill of trying to be alpha tribe before you get wiped, this game is not for you.

If you want a traditional fallout game where you interact with interesting NPCs and make thoughtful choices, this game isn't for you either.

So who is this game for and why the hell did I give it a 10? If you want a mix between DayZ and Mist this game is for you. It's honestly perfect for me and my boyfriend. I LOVE games like Rust and Ark, but he wont play them with me because he hates putting so much time and effort into something only to get raided in the end. I have little interest in a co-op Fallout 4 because who's choices would matter?

This game is seriously awesome, it combines sandbox elements with a really rich story. It's just a different type of story. You emerge from vault 76 only 25 years after the war. The government filled vault 76 and other early release vaults with the best and brightest the USA had to offer because we're the ones that have to rebuild and shape the world for the future vaults. After being released you interact with a few robots that point you in a direction and you go. You find out that people who weren't able to secure safety in a vault did survive after the bombs dropped, you find their camps, diaries and holotapes talking about everything from dangerous radiation levels in the water to mutated monsters, plagues and maybe even aliens (not sure if that's actually a thing or just a crazy person rambling). The tapes are awesome because you can listen to them while rummaging around collecting stuff.

You try to drink the water and you get rads, you try to eat the food and you get rads. You try to collect the water to boil it, and you still get rads but less so. They don't cure over time, and Radaway is sparce and you can't craft it (at least at first, not sure if you can later). You start listening to these tapes and the survivors testing the water and trying to figure out how to purify it and you have to pick up where they left off if you hope to survive long term. That's the reality of being the first ones out of a vault, no town to buy purified water in. You have to figure out how to purify it so there can be towns and factions in the future.... as well as looking into super mutant threats, plagues, aliens and other crazy rumors that could end human life as we know it. Just because the story doesn't handhold you or tell you how awesome and invaluable your character is every 15 minutes doesn't mean there isn't a rich story for you to uncover on your own.

Obviously there's monster hunting, treasure maps, air drops, crafting, perks and skills and other cool stuff. You can build a camp but it logs out with you for the night so you can only get raided while online (even then you have a chest that only you can access, additional storage people can loot though). You know what though, that's a nice change of pace. It's a game, I can't be on 24/7. The community actually seems nice, people are intentionally leaving things in lootable chests to help others along. Don't get me wrong I LOVE games like Ark and Rust, I've got 600+ hours in each on official servers... but I also like to be able to sleep easy when I log out and I like playing games with my boyfriend so this is fun in it's own right and the first game of it's kind.

I also love a deeply rich story, I love the previous fallout games. I've played through the Mass Effect Trilogy so many times it's unreal. I don't need to become leader of every guild and have NPCs stare at me in awe though. I don't always need to be the center of the universe, sometimes it's cool to just be a part of it and make it what you will.

TLDR; if you want Fallout 5 Co-Op, this is not for you. If you want DayZ, this is not for you. If you want something in the middle of those that you can convince your PvP shy friends and family to play, this is perfect for you.

How other people play this game:
Rushing it to get the level up fast, no roleplay at all, no interactions with other players, just kill, loot, and level up.
This not the right way to play it. You are mad about there is no npc's... but in the end you are the real npc's in this game. I've approach other players roleplaying my character and they ignored me thinking i'm some kind of crazy guy and they left so they can continue the grinding.

My final opinion is that this game is good but players don't know how to play it, what RP is and care only about rushing it to beat the game as fast they can.
Score 8 for the game and score 0 for the people playing it.

I didn't want to spend my cash on it. He bought it as an early x-mas present so I would play and I gave it another go! 1 patch later a headache of downloading and going over my internet cap, and 100 hours of gameplay later I can only say this is a masterpiece and I was so used to instant gratification and games that hold your hands of today I did not see the depth and passion that was in this game. I regret ever bashing Bethesda for this game! I have had nothing but great times and now that I know wtf I'm doing and playing with friends everyday this game is on another level and we all just didn't see it! but now I see it, I see the amazing item complexity's and crafting builds in retrospect to the amazing perk card system that allows you to swap loadouts on perks. just wish there was a way to save loadouts and swap them without doing it manually. I see the massive amounts of level depth and planning the first time I took posiden energy plant with a full squad and now every time I catch the cute easter eggs hidden in inanimate objects, graffiti, termanals, and blood scrawled notes on the corpse of dead raider joe, Yes this game is buggy as hell, Yes I have 400+ triple A titles in my steam library, but you know what. I wake up I want to play fallout 76 and discover more loot, I want to burn more, I want to be more efficient at learning great spots for those springs and gears, where the red apocalyptic fern grows and a mini-nuke down to 1.5 pounds with the bear arms perk launching 489 dps in a catastrophic mushroom cloud of death at any who dare appose me until I run out of rounds and my weapons break and I'm flailing on the ground save me save me to my team who are equally as frantic as hoards of scorched slam us from every direction while the blinding breath of the scorchbeast queen pulverizes my t60 power armor to dust! im 100 hours in and I still have not walked half the map or even stated the quest lines I'm not joking!! I did my first 5 quest tonight and they were very well done. Sure this is not a game for Tom Cruise. But this is one of the best games ive played in a long time and I really wish it had a better launch, people were way to quick to judge just like I was by some fluke I kept playing and I think its one of the best things that ever happened. Sorry for my poor grammar and the long rant of a review but I feel this game will have a spot in history as the game that surprised the world when it picks up steam in reviews again. and it will just look at ESO same story not as great a game but it fleshed out to be a really good MMO, Cheers to all you still trending the wasteland at least you know what I know Expand

Don't believe the payed lies about this game being little good by any chance, the game is a mess and it was filled with TONS and TONS OF LIES by Todd Howard, the fkn game was even sold by free in many countries due the horrible sales. So don't believe the lies and if you want to play a Fallout game go play Fallout 4 or 3.

I've played this game for about 250 hours now over the course of several weeks. My opinions are outlined below.
This game is a beast. There are tons and tons of activities to do in the game. There are hundreds of quests and even more hidden areas. There is a plethora of lore to be learned and the map is simply astonishing. There are several unique regions in the map that have different creatures and enemies. There is building, farming, and exploring. With the new leveling system, you can change the perks you want to use at any time within the same tree.

Down to business. The combat. Since the game is primarily online, the VATS system is kinda different. There is a slow degradation on your AP while it's in use and there is no slow time. This makes the VATS system a little different from previous games while still keeping it useful.
Combat is limited to 2 types, ranged or melee, with trees in each category. While some may want to use a melee build, there is one enemy in game that will annoy you to no end because you become helpless, which is the Scorch Beasts. These nasty creatures fly high in the sky, similar to the dragons in Skyrim. Without a way to ground the beast, a melee character is essentially target practice for the flying balls of death. For this reason, I recommend picking a ranged character.

For perks, the way it works is each level in a tree, ex; Strength, will give you one more point to spend on cards (perks) each card has a point cost associated with it and can be 'equipped'. If you have level 10 Strength you get 10 points to either spend on 10 cards that cost one or any combination of leveled cards equalling 10. I like this system as it lets me invest into lockpicking but I don't have to keep it active when I'm not picking a lock.

For building, you can place a house almost anywhere. You set down a camp and hop to it. You have a camp budget and turrets take a LOT of it. If you want a nice home, build it in an area you won't need turrets to defend it. There are mining sites all across the map that let you build machines to gather resources for you passively. They need to be emptied regularly as there is a limit to how much stuff they can hold. Building a home is fairly easy but outfitting it with all the trinkets you want is harder as most of the placeable items are locked and need plans.

For weapons and armor, the armor in this game has levels. So pick a version you like, and stick with the one. If you want more physical damage reduction compared to energy, then pick something that caters to your class. No one armor is better than another, it just depends on what you like.
For power armor, this can be argued as better. But you lose access to fist weapons and you have to carry heavy power cores.
For weapons, you need to scrap them to get attachment plans. See tons of shotguns? Scrap em. ballistic weapons are currently the go to at the moment but don't let this stop you from hitting robots with a weapon their weak against. (energy)

If you come to a point where you can't put any more items into your stash, you're hoarding too much. Stop it. This isn't Fallout 4. Keep at most 4 weapons, a pile of ammo, and 100 scrap/bulk of each type. If you're running a shotgun class you don't need 3 Fat Mans in your stash. Pro tip, Mini nukes and missiles weigh a lot. If you aren't planning on using them when you pick them up, don't put them in your stash. Same with grenades. USE THOSE EXPLOSIVES.

I really enjoy this game and having the chance to play it with friends is really nice. If there was one thing I could change about the game, I'd add a Dragon Rend to make those Scorch Beasts land on the ground. It's unfair to melee characters.

Albeit a rocky launch, Fallout 76 has been making strides to correct bugs and update the game with QoL features. The performance is still a little iffy, even on decent PC's but tweaking settings and such can get it to run pretty smoothly. So far I've been enjoying my time exploring and questing, just like I had in New Vegas or the Capital Wasteland.

Do I think Bethesda missed the mark on a few things? Yes. There are problems here. For a game you have to collect everything, the stash box is terribly limited. There are bugs. I've had quests reset multiple times. But this is from a company that put out Daggerfall which had 4 to 5 pages of patch notes EVERY patch cycle for half a year.

It's not Fallout 5. It's a survival game in that world. If you thought you were getting something else, then yeah, I guess the negative review is justified. I personally have enjoyed it quite a lot. Hanging out with buddies, tearing through some of the crazier monsters, it's been fun.

But yes, if you thought this would be like every other Fallout game, then you just need to go back and play Fallout 4.

The only issues I've seen from other reviews are pretty much things that don't exist, like lack of content, no story, or lore. First of all, anyone giving this game a 1, is knee jerk reacting, and just tossing a 1 out, because they want to drag the score down.

Now, This game is not a perfect game. Server Instability tends to be the worst issue I've had playing this game. I've run into the issue of being kicked out of various exploration places only to be placed outside again, still missing ammo and medical supplies, and having to start over. It's not a great feeling, but I never expected the launch of a huge game like this to be 100% Stable, and I've only run into two server crashes in my entire playtime. So it's annoying, but not awful.

The Textures are ripped straight out of Fallout 4, not really a bad thing, but save for a few texture differences on some enemies and items. It's very much Fallout 4.

The Biggest thing I think this game has going for it so far, is the environmental story telling, taking it slow and steady, you can get a feel of how some of these homesteads fell apart, and what some people's last moments might have been.

The Building does feel a little bit of a step down from Fallout 4, mostly because everything has to be connected to bases and walls, and clipping through other items isn't allowed. However, this is probably mostly just to do with the fact the camps can be moved whenever, and dropped into new zones, so the buildings sort of had to make sense. The camp also seems to spawn the items from the ground up, so having them connected makes sense. You can still make some whacky buildings though, it just takes building and removing foundations and messing with Ladders.

As of this review, the Stash Box you have, can only carry 400 lbs of stuff. Not 400 different items, 400 LBS of stuff, so its' like a stationary extra inventory slot, that eventually can be filled and not accept more items. This is somewhat aggravating for those who like to pick everything up and scrap stuff. But the developers also added a way to condense your materials down into lighter bulk loads if you have a tinkers bench and plastic.

The Perk Card systems fun to mix and match, though sometimes you'll just get unlucky and not get nice cards from your packs. This can slow down stuff a little, but if you keep at it, you'll get everything your wanting.

Overall, this is a pretty average game. I hope Bethesda continues to support it, so that they can make it better. So I'm giving it a 5/10. It's very Average, it' is fun though, and I'm hoping things improve from here.

The allure of every fallout game thus far has been the depth and quality of the story. Taking the Fallout universe and placing it inside an MMO makes it nearly impossible to maintain this focus. Is there a story? Yes. Does the environment change AT ALL as you play through the "story" and experience it? Not at all. The beauty of past Fallout games was that every action you made as you progressed had a consequence in the world. When you made a critical mission decision, you would hear about it on the radio a few hours of gameplay later, relationships in the world would change, and you would feel like you were molding the beautiful virtual worlds as you spent your time exploring them. They were wonderfully immersive games. Even when the gameplay was cluttered by base building and junk hauling in Fallout 4, those base themes/mechanics were still present and very well done... This game is not a game for Fallout fans. It is a game for MMORPG players who want a change of scenery like a Fallout setting. I put in the time to make sure I wasn't missing the point, and the game hasn't been played again since. If you are an MMORPG fan, there are a lot of games that will serve you better than this one. Games that aren't trying to please both the loyal Fallout fans and be an MMORPG.

At first day of release, this game doesn't really deliver. Bugs and straight bad game design have ruined the launch (inventory limitation forcing players to walk instead of run). I really hope Bethesda learn of it but between this and Elder Scrolls Online it is obvious they have lost the capacity to produce serious deep games. It's all about money now for this company.

I really hope Bethesda learn of it but between this and Elder Scrolls Online it is obvious they have lost the capacity to produce serious deep games. It's all about money now for this company.
That said, Fallout 76 can still be still fun and addictive. The world is immersive and requires a lot of patience, too much for 90% of the gaming population thus the hate: One must listen to audio files and read through entire paragraphs to get a sense of Fallout post- war world.
Leveling is interesting through a system of distributed points and cards.

As an online game, with time, bugs will be ironed out and we will see QoL improvements.
A first patch is coming a week after launch already and they have yet to announce the details.
    So hope is not lost.
I give it a 8/10 because fact is I have already sunk more than 50 hours and I am having a blast despite of all the problems.

The approach to PVP while having some glaring flaws, mostly does what it is designed to do and does it well. The story is very subdued with the player deciding on how to approach it, even skipping vast portions of it if so inclined. An interesting take to be sure, but makes the story feel lackluster. The most unenjoyable thing is the lack of human npc's whatsoever. When they tease you about finding someone living, makes you want it even more badly. I do not understand who shreds this game, I find it absolutely valid. I'm having fun playing it, the world to explore is the best of the fallout series. I'm sorry for those who give low marks just to comply with the mass. There are problems in the game, but they are not so serious as to prevent players from having fun.

I'm having LOT of fun and I solo all the time.

The map is huge... impressive... Buildings are explorables and big... Guns are fun. The game is challenging too. Graphics are good for an online game (do not compare online graphics with offline graphics). Quests are long and fun too.

For me, this game worth 8/10 because of the bugs.

But of course, if you are looking for Fallout 5 or Skyrim, this is not what you are looking for.

When Bethesda brought elder scrolls to the online world, I didn't care for it- it was too MMO and not enough elder scrolls. Unfortunately, it is plagued with bugs, particularly Vsync/gsync issues, crashes, and other nonsense. It really breaks you from the experience, which is a shame. The good news is, this game could run on a potato, using the same engine as skyrim and it shows. The bad news is the graphics for the most part are just blah. The in game settings are minimal and changing the display to borderless to full screen requires a restart of the game. Annoying, because you might have to adjust that to fix vsync issues.

My only other minor complaint is that since this is all online, you can never pause. When you are crafting or in your pip boy, magically enemies will appear out of nowhere and you'll take damage. It's very annoying. Also, the carrying/weight needs to be balanced. Carrying too much? No problem! Store it in your stash. But you can't fast travel there since you are overweight! Ok then, set up your camp where you are. Great! But that has a limit on storage, too. Sigh.

This game is very rough around the edges, and needs some work. If you are on the fence to check it out, I would wait a month or so. It's still worth playing if you enjoy the fallout series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As you can tell from all the 0's, and looking at the drama that this game has brought along. It's no surprise that the majority of the fan reviews are likely people who wouldn't buy the game at all, and just want the game to tank so they can have they can have single player. Though, there is plenty wrong surrounding Fallout 76. Human NPC's are a sad, and what I feel is a unnecessary sacrifice, and B.E.T.A wasn't really a Beta, more-so a "play a couple weeks early before release" type deal at worst, and stress testing their servers at best. Which, even after release there was no changes that I noticed. travelling to a Robot laden area that's sprawled with guard bots, FPS drops and I'll admit, has gotten me killed a at least once. If they had a proper beta, by this point I'm sure it'd be in a better state. With the PC B.E.T.A deleting itself at start and no steam support, it's been what seems to be bad decision one after another that pisses people off (as you can plenty see with all said 0's).

But I'm rating it on how much fun I've had, not because of Meta problems and things that can possibly be fixed with patches, which I would hope they would put more focus on, since they can't leave that to modders any time soon, and would only enforce the hate if they didn't.

I've had plenty of fun playing solo and with my friends, interacting and helping others in real time and get a random chat in every once in awhile. I've only had a small hand full of PvP, to which I've not done too well, even with backup in my experiences. But most people I've encountered have seemed to avoid it for the most part, giving me a friendly wave when they catch me sneaking about, trying to avoid a fight with them. So far, I've been enjoying my play time, my only, biggest gripe is the no NPC Humans around to spice things up. And Microtransactions are limited to Cosmetics, and I'm hoping it sticks to that.

It is basically more Fallout with multiplayer added on, very much the same as the previous games. It is still good and you can spend many hours playing it though there really is not a lot new here.

The negative press I think is unfair and is due to people expecting a lot more than was delivered on release though numerous updates and patches are on the way and it does look to become possibly the best Fallout in future.

Fallout 76 is a wonderful experience which tackles the complex progression of society's decay in a post-apocalyptic world. All this while also creating interesting factions and characters through its text and recorded audio.

I have only played Fallout 76 solo and feel that it is just as good for single player as Fallout 3 or 4. Sure, there are other players running around but overall their impact on my experience is very limited.

I want to warn you fine folks to take careful care when reading the negative reviews here because very many of them are not objective and barely subjective, ANYONE can throw a review up here and if you look around other platforms it's essentially the same thing. Most people are not judging the game on its merits but because they didn't get a specific title that they were demanding from the developer+publisher and seem to be intent on destroying a developer's potential success just to make that point. So those of us who are having fun with the game are in part at the mercy of these people who can't just not play the game but want it destroyed. That being said be sure to make sure the review is on the up-n-up and outlines specifically what is right and wrong with the product, which is what I'll do now.

Personally I think the game is great but let me go over a quickfire list of pros and cons, just FYI this is an honest opinion of the game from someone who has been playing it since day 1 of the BETA on PC.

    (Pros)
-Great gunplay compared to previous titles
    -Very well oiled crafting system
    -Craftable Ammo ;)
-No Dogmeat (some people call this a con, but that dog has always gotten in my freakin way since FO3)
-Hilarious perk cards (Canned Dog Food is an in the face Mad Max reference even has a perk card for it!)
-It's not like ESO at all, there's not 500 people running through your dungeon crawls
-Co-op: this part cannot be stated enough, this game is a freakin' joy to co-op players, hands down.
-Seemingly a Never-ending pool of interesting new monsters
    -Massive Map
-Bethesda's usual beautiful and atmospheric landscapes
-Bethesda's usual foreboding and depressing interior atmospheres
-Bethesda's silent story-telling and object placement (people love this for a reason)
-Possibly some of the best voice acting any of the Fallout games have experienced (that might not be saying much since it was always notoriously bad for almost every title hah!)
    -Seamless world/server phasing.
-A plethora of new weapons (and no you don't run around with pipe pistols for long as much as we all hate those dumb things, ammunition vending machines everywhere and Americans need to make pipe pistols? pffft!)
-The lore is actually pretty good, the people complaining about it have always complained about East-coast Fallout lore no matter how reasonable it is.

    (Cons)
-Creation Engine limitations (I've modded BGS games since the early gamebryo days)
-Frame Rate Lock at 60fps (the engine needs to be locked to a standardized framerate and doesn't play well with variable or high frame rates as it causes your game to get buggy in ways other players with a standard 60hz display will never experience)
-No push-to-talk so nobody says anything to one another everybody just communicates via emotes (this feature is being added post-launch for some reason, but the lack of it is really really annoying because you do WANT to talk to others.
-FOV "locked" at 70 degrees with no FOV setting in the options menus (default FOV on PC has always been 90 degrees, larger displays need higher FOV to compensate for the size of the physical display to prevent the player from getting sick. This setting can be altered in the .ini config)
-Unlocked .ini config - remember that framelock i mentioned? well you can force the lock off in the ini settings which will cause the game to run at the pace of your GPU rather than that locked FPS effectively enabling a speedhack that the servers struggle to check against.
-No Anticheat? - There are players who are up in the level 60+ range already, they all swear that they achieved those levels legitimately, you only have to play the game to know that's a load of BS.
-The Slap System - admittedly I think this system is dumb it's trying to prevent and encourage pvp all at the same time by attempting to make duel challenges seamless, but for whatever reason they decided to add faction-pvp post-launch and not prior so I don't know what's up with that.
-Inventory Management is BRUTAL - I normally don't mind inventory management but FO76's inventory management is pretty bad even despite having virtually all the weight management perks maxed out, so many things alter your potential carry weight, whether you're hungry, thirsty, ate the wrong thing, diseased, etc. you spend so much time hoofing it back to camp just to drop your junk off and try to get back into the fight.

    (Conclusion/Notes)

I think the game is great, rough around the edges of course, and in the meantime is easily remedied until BGS sorts out their plans. I think this game was rushed to be put to market in Q4 and ALL of the features were to be added post-launch, which isn't a practice that should be made into a habit but as it stands Fallout 76 is an enjoyable experience that will most likely get even better with age!

I've played about 60 hours of SOLO Fallout 76 so far, and it's been a LOT of fun. I've experienced very few bugs and glitches, I've had zero disconnects and zero crashes so far, and the game has run very well on my rig. I run an i5 8600k, GTX 1070ti, 16gb memory and the game is installed on an SSD.

Will it run this well for YOU? It might. It might not. The game *does* have quite a few bugs which you may or may not experience. Bethesda has made some questionable design choices, and whether you are a player who is able to adapt to the design choices is ultimately on you.

The controls could use more customization options on PC, but the things that can't be changed only took me a couple of minutes to adapt to and haven't detracted from my enjoyment of the game in the least.

The graphics options should have been more robust from the start, but I've adapted to this by making the changes I want in the games .ini files. Beyond the 3 minutes that took, I haven't had any gripes with the graphics.

I've seen some people saying this game, graphically, looks like a Playstation 2 game.... I haven't the slightest idea of how someone could *seriously* come to this absolutely absurd conclusion, but welcome to the internet I guess, where 9 times out of 10 things are blown way out of proportion for the sake of seeming sensational. The graphics look fine to me. I've never needed the most cutting edge graphics to enjoy a game. So, while it doesn't have the graphical fidelity of a game such as "The Witcher 3" or "Red Dead Redemption 2", it looks just fine. Whether this is an issue to you or not is ultimately on you.

The gameplay has been a lot of fun. Gunplay feels good, so does melee. Combat feels fine from my perspective. Aiming controls are fine, and melee combat feels fine. Overall, the way you move, aim and play the game does feel mostly like Fallout 4, which is cool with me, as I loved Fallout 4.

Some enemy AI could use some work here and there. Most of the time enemies react how you'd expect them to, and other times they're dumb as rocks. It isn't a big enough issue to hurt my overall experience of the game.

I like how you have to find plans to make new weapons and armor, and you have to break down weapons and armor to learn how to make mods for that specific type of weapon or armor. Having to find plans incentivizes exploration, which I think is a good thing.

There are a lot of locations to discover and explore. I've discovered the majority of them, but am nowhere close to actually fully *exploring* each location. I'm easily going to get at least another 60 hours out of this game.

I really like the CAMP system. I build my camp to be functional and battle ready opposed to making it look "pretty". I'm a function before form kind of guy. I like to place my camp in difficult locations with frequent enemy presence because it gives my turrets something to do, and can be a fairly good way to get EXP and loot.

On the topic of the CAMP system, some things could use some polish and tweaking here and there, but overall for me it's been good. I also wish there was a way to broadcast your CAMPs location to other players on the map.

The public workshop system is cool. The fact that you are given a good supply of free resources to use for building it up is great, instead of having to immediately dip into your own resources. I see a lot of people taking issue with the fact that they "feel pointless" because when you disconnect from the game, you lose your claim on any public workshops you've had. I understand why this is the case, so it doesn't bother me in the least. The resources were free, and I enjoy building, so I simply look at it as enjoyable content. Having to build a public workshop again is a non-issue for me.

I'm not going to go into great detail about each bug that is present in the game, or each questionable design choice Bethesda has made. Very few of these things have actually affected me, and it's just not worth the time. I will reiterate that *yes*, bugs ARE present in the game. You may experience very, very few like me, or you may experience a lot. The game DOES need polish so that it's a good experience for everyone, not just the lucky people like me.

Hell, even to a player like me who has had a great experience, polish is still needed. While I think the game is very good, it's not "GREAT", which is why I have only given it an 8 out of 10. It could have been much better.

Luckily, Bethesda is going to be supporting this game for the foreseeable future, fixing bugs and adding content. This game has a HUGE amount of potential if they add content and make quality of life changes at a fair pace. Like... the extent of how cool this game could become boggles my mind. Bethesda just needs to follow through with the support they've stated they'll be giving it. If they do that I'll be playing it for a long, long time.

That's a great game. Slow exploration of the huge world, history of Fallout's world on the terminal among empty, left buildings with a ton of danger. After 2 years from release it's great game. Very recommend it, if you like survival, realtime RPG with exploration. For fun you can go with your friend online.

I have no baggage with this game. I’ve come at it fresh, once wastelanders was out. I think It’s a cracking game. But the Atom store is a disappointment, and the Bethesda clunky animations and poor character art bring the score down. Definitely worth a punt!

There are known exploits for leveling up that haven't been patched and that's really a big turn off in a multiplayer online game. Other than the bugs and exploits however, it's great. It feels like a fallout world, exploring and discovering new areas and piecing together the little stories is cool and interesting. The choice to use holotapes and notes to tell the story rather than characters isn't as terrible as I originally thought it would be, though the story does feel more like you are following just behind a protagonist rather than being the protagonist - you're always finding out what happened rather than being instrumental in those happenings. The Enemy AI seems fairly simplistic and isn't helped by a laggy server experience. Having other players around is a great addition to the fallout world, and grouping up and running about is entertaining. End game feels a bit lacklustre - launching nukes and farming the resulting high level mobs is great the first few times, but then once you have a few cool high level legendary weapons, what to do next?

Base building is unfortunatley completely broken. The idea you can pick up your base as a blueprint and then plonk it down somewhere else would be great .. if it worked. It's a bit of a crapshoo as to wether all your base pieces will still exist, and it can be very difficult to get the game to let you actually place your base down again without complaining about the terrain or some other issue.

Balance is another problem. Weapon balance is completely jumbled up for both PvE and PvP content.

Overall, I'm having fun __but. It desperately needs bugfixes (sooo many bugs, like unbelievable numbers of mechanics bugs - not gamebreaking, but still...) and balance changes.

I'm a long term player of the fallout brand.
This game is really different from the predecessor, but it is really enjoyable and fun to play.
And when first nuke explode your heart will have a gulp.
Plenty of enemies and also hard to beat, i suggest this game if you love the fallout universe,
Forgot, in the beginning the game was really full of bugs, but now they are nearly all fixed.

Fallout 76 is my favorite post-apocalyptic game ever. And I mean even from release. The mass delusion that this game was somehow terrible was the most frustrating gaming experience of my adult life; everywhere I went the consensus was "there is nothing good about this game and Bethesda ruined everything" when I was playing 6-10 hours every day and loving it in a way I had rarely loved any game before or since. The inarguably bleakest, loneliest, most distressing entry in the series (or possibly of any non-horror game), Fallout 76 had literally everything that made the previous three entries in the series great, and far more besides--more compelling voice logs, terminal entries, interconnectivity between areas, mutated abominations, verticality and variance of locales, everything. Except, of course, for human NPCs. Would I want all my Fallout games to be devoid of human NPCs? Absolutely not, but for one game? Yes, please. It was an experience like no other. Their return with the "Wastelanders" expansion was done fairly well, and I love the game as much as ever now, but I definitely miss the early days of Fallout 76 when it truly felt like you were the first explorers/settlers of a once-pristine wilderness destroyed by the horrors of radiation. But good luck explaining that to anyone when literally everyone's response to "I am really loving Fallout 76" is "that's a joke right? I heard that's the worst game ever." I feel so sorry for everyone who believed the lies rather than trying it out. Expand

Do yourself a favour, avoid the myriad of YouTube influencers and reviewers and play the game for yourself. I went in expecting the worst thanks to the internet as a whole and was pretty shocked to discover the game was way above my expectations.

If you like the more recent Fallout games then there's not really that much different here besides the huge and frankly gorgeous at times world. The only real difference is that the quests are largely dished out via audiologs and robots. To be honest I feel like people have misunderstood this feature somewhat and have taken to labeling the game as feeling lonely and empty but it actually allows for quests to be doled out and listened to by multiple users without each individual having to que up and talk to an NPC. It's a lot more efficient and the voice acting on the audiologs is top notch.

Speaking of which, there's a lot of dialogue, I mean A LOT. Honestly if you like world building there's a lot here to get your teeth into. The game was buggy at launch for sure which is a negative but it's no more buggy now than any other always online game out there.

There's way more to go at here than you might think. If you stop and smell the roses and don't blitz your way through with zero regard for the world you'll easily get lost and carried away with what you're doing from the campaign alone never mind the events and the nukes.

If they keep going with updates and stick with the game then I think it'll change a lot of people's minds in the long run. Give it a try.

For a casual player who will probably put a 100/200 hours, maybe a bit more, into it, if you count this game out you're missing a whole new Fallout adventure. Sure, it has its quirks, but its charms more than make up for it. If you love exploring a post-apocalyptic landscape, discovering interesting locations and piecing together what happened, all while listening to some of the best classic music ever made, then you'll *love* this game.

The multi-player layer on top is well done and subtle. You can participate in it if you want, or ignore it and treat it like a single player game. I am not a multi-player gamer yet I really like the way they did it in this game and it's fun knowing other players are in the world even if I'm largely ignoring them.

Just keep your expectations realistic and ignore whatever hype made this game seem like it would be some kind of grand MMO experience, because it just won't live up to that and it's okay. And remember, it's an online game, you're going to run into lag and bugs that are actually just network issues, and that's okay.

If you do that, you'll find you were missing out on a whole new Fallout experience that you might just absolutely love, like I did.

I'm still playing the game. Because I'm playing knowing that I wasted my money and wasting my time. After more than 40 hours, I will not delete the game until I finish the main quest.

There is an unnecessary and aimless difficulty in the game. Fallout 2 is easier than Fallout 76. For example, your level is 15 and you go to the main mission. You don't know what will you face wherever you go, but then suddenly you come across creatures over 35 levels and even legendary bosses! Even if your level is 35, you have a hard time killing legendary creatures, which 5-10 levels more than your level.

There is an annoying bug; when you are not under attack, your armour or even your weapon can be broken due to bugs. Also, sometimes, the durability of weapons decreases in 4-5 magazines.

When you do fast travel to a place, you fall into unexpected places. It might even be a cliff edge. Also, the game starts when you are falling from some height and your health decreases.

Some main quests and side quests cause time loss. I cannot say that there are no good sides; with your friends, you can hunt down legendary creatures of "unbalanced levels and powers".

Still, don't buy it! They need 2 or more years to fix the game.

And, the graphics are like watching a low-quality video.

And the fact the game has been **** on as much as it has, says more about the current state of the game industry than how good or bad Fallout 76 actually is. We are ignoring how much this game has to offer in exploration and immersion because of glitches, poor performance and janky gameplay.

But what if we had a game the exact opposite, no immersion, no exploration, no soul but utterly perfect performance, smooth gameplay and zero glitches? It would be rated extremely highly (see DOOM, HL:Alyx, Outer Worlds, et al.) This is a problem because we as gamers are saying we are incapable of putting up with a few engine problems and want utterly seamless experiences even if they are are empty and devoid of soul or creativity. We are saying we prefer a polished turd to a rough diamond. And that says more about our puerility as gamers than the gaming industry itself. We are the problem because they can only sell us what we are buying.

People prefer lack of friction over elevating gaming experiences because of a few small problems. Instead of putting up with a few issues to experience something that will inevitably fill us with a feeling of elevation, we want totally sterile, clinical games that more or less turn our brains to mush.

If people boycott the only even slightly good game that has been made in years because of engine problems and are now retro-actively ****ting on all of Bethesda's previous games as if 'Oh I never really liked those games anyway' then the future of gaming is very grim, and that's why I am rating game 9/10 because Bethesda to me is the only big game developer left still capable of making games full of any semblance of soul. And the day Bethesda stops making games is the day AAA gaming dies.

Fallout 76 is more an online first person shooter than it is a role playing game. Gone are branching quest lines and player expression through dialogue or choices. Instead the game relies mostly on how players interact in the game world, for good or bad.

Bethesda’s Appalachia is beautifully crafted world, and despite bugs and flaws its a game with a lot of potential, but one that needs excessive tweaking to reach its’ potential. For now Fallout 76 tries to be so many things at once, and ironically becomes a bit over-encumbered with ambition itself.

Fallout 76 consists of multiple paradoxes that does not glue all that well together. It is a Fallout game, but you’re very limited in what you can pick up, keep or sell. It’s a survival game, but there’s power armors and stockpiles of ammo around every corner. It’s a post apocalyptic irradiated place, but you can hardly kill a ghoul without getting a rad-x.

It’s an open world game where solo exploration is encouraged, but you’ll unintentionally set off group events that makes players flock to your location. You can trade with strangers, but they can one-shot you with an overpowered weapon. You can stay away from other players and play it solo, but over time it might make you feel lonely or even slightly paranoid.

Bethesda’s Appalachia is perhaps the most impressive game world Bethesda has crafted to date, like a mix of Fallout 4 and Skyrim, only bigger. The addition of different regions makes the world a lot more interesting than earlier Fallouts to explore, and although many Fallout 4 assets are re-used, there’s a lot of new assets and lightings added. You can see valleys and vistas far into the horizon, you can watch rain clouds drift towards you, or nuke clouds rise above you.

The downside to it, and one that gets more evident the more you play, is that the locations are spread out a lot more than in previous Bethesda games, and that the wilderness itself is largely devoid of animals and points of interest.

Bethesda games have always been about exploring and looting, but hoarding items has previously been unproblematic when there’s not limited weight and “stash”. Fallout 76 on the other hand introduces both limited inventory weight, stash weight and a lot of other “survival” elements, like food and water needs.

As you level up you’ll find you need a lot of “convenience” perks to remedy thirst, hunger, food spoilage and low inventory weight, and then there’s also radiation and diseases to account for. This makes leveling up more of a chore than what it has used to be, it’s just not as fun to pick 10 weight and food perks and 2-3 that are unique to your character, just to be able to play the game without going half crazy because your character is thirsty, hungry or over-encumbered all the time.

There’s an inherent contradiction in the attempted combination of the Bethesda style of open world games, where the player becomes God Allmighty with a all the loose items in the world in a drawer, and a survival setting where the player is supposedly trying to scrape by on tin cans and irradiated flowers.

We are wading in an endlessly re-spawning junk pile, where all the loot is randomly thrown upon us like bling bling in a casino, but we can’t keep much of it, we can’t stash it, and because vendors have low and limited amounts of caps we can’t easily sell it, at least not without doing the rounds between faction vendors and waiting 24 hours for vendor inventories to reset.

Another problem with Fallout 76 is that it relies a little too much on leveled lists and randomization. You can find recipes at different locations in the world, but if you want a certain recipe for a certain food item, you just need to be lucky and stumble upon it in-game. The same goes for plans for crafting weapons or armor. At its worst playing Fallout 76 feels more like playing a slot machine than a rpg.

Luckily Bethesda have said they will improve on the game in the future. Let's hope they pick the right perks to level up their game.

The game doesn't really begin until you hit Watoga at about level 40. Which is exactly what Bethesda should have done for long term longevity. Everybody in a on-line game can't be the Choosen One. There is enough story and tense Fallout exploration to get you through the lower levels without extreme boredom. Then you get to start fighting Scorchbeast Queens in the middle of a nuclear firestorm. That's fun. Expand

Perk cards, weapon types, legendary effects on weapons and armor, mutations, stealth, food buffs, chems, ammo type all have a massive effect on how your character will play. Understanding damage mitigation for fire, radiation, explosions, energy weapons and ballistic weapons also play a role. Different enemies have different mitigations as do your character depending on how you configure it. On top of that, you need to understand how PvP rules work if you wish to engage in it. Very buggy at launch. Not enough communication with the community. This game was marketed as being something different from other Fallout games, so it isn't fair to grade it as such. It has lots of room to grow, patches can fix a lot of the issues in this game. The PVP is broken, the story is lacking because of the exclusion of NPC's. Not a bad game. Kind of like a Rust/Fallout spinoff.

Fallout 76 has that "one more mission" hook for me. Just one more thing, then I'll go to bed. Then it's one more thing to do. HOMM 3 hooked me like that. Before you know it 2am is here.

I expect this game to get TLC as time goes on. It needs it.

What I do like is the options for finishing quests. Do the slog of run here, get this, etc....or if you have master hacking bypass all that. How you spec your character matters. It feels like more RPG is coming back into Fallout. I didn't care for Fallout 4's RPG elements, wasn't many of them far as I'm concerned. Far Harbor was a step in the right direction, and I think FO76 is more steps in that RPG element direction.

Now I am still waiting on Warcraft 4, so I do know how a company can do an MMO and the single player game goes bye bye. I don't want that. So all those that worry about that, that's a legitimate concern and it should be voiced.

I like the holotape idea for the story. I feel like a detective. And the holotapes are dark, messed up stuff. I like the more brutal stories they are telling.

This review is written when Stash limit is still 400 and the CAMP bulldozer is weeks away. If Bethesda keeps updating things like that due to our feedback that's good.

Fallout is one of my all-time favorite franchises, I own and have played every single title. Fallout 76 has me feeling the most conflicted on whether or not my money/time was wasted. I have experienced just about everything the game has to offer in its current state. So I now feel comfortable giving an honest review.

Exploration: I have visited about 80% of the entire map (it really is huge)
Leveling system: I am level 62 currently (S.P.E.C.I.A.L points max at 50, as do the items it seems)
Story: I completed most of the main story and many, many side quests.

    Pros:
A huge map with new and cool places to explore.

A few new interesting creatures, and interesting new weapons to kill them with.

The holotape story is decent I guess.

I did enjoy the survival aspect somewhat. you will run out of food, water, and stims.

    Cons:
The whole world just feels so lifeless, I did not feel attached to the story at all!

Boring, the story is so distant and hollow that I just don't care to find out what happened, this is a first for me with Bethesda games.

Bugs, these are mostly bearable but present.

Other players hurt the story, trying to listen to a holotape and all I hear is some guy hacking up a lung into his mic, or this other guy singing barbie world into his mic. yes, you can mute them but then I have to stop what I am doing, mute them, then start the holotape over and hope some other random guy does not show up.

It seems 90% of the game is a direct copy and paste from fallout 4, let's grab the UI, creatures, weapons, houses, cars, crafting system, textures and drop them all into Fallout 76. Add a few new creatures, items, and a huge new map and sell it for full price! I am telling you this is a 60$ multiplayer DLC for fallout 4.

Summary: I am a huge Bethesda fan, Fallout and Elder Scrolls are amazing, I am trying hard to look at this as a new and fresh Idea that just fell short in some ways. I would have been happy to purchase a new DLC for fallout 4 and give it a try. But I was expecting something.....more!.

I believe I have received much more than I paid for in several of Bethesda's past titles, this one kind of went the other way for me personally but I am still very hopeful for future projects. I also am a single player gamer, so adding multiplayer was bound to crash the party in some ways.

Everything combined I would say a 6 out of 10 is fair, if you love the franchise you will like some of what they did here. And I imagine you will still get a few dozen hours of enjoyment out of the game.

Its online and way earlier in the timeline. Is it as brutal as say Rust? No, its a softer game but still have definite survival aspects. Is it as boring as MMOs have been these last few years? No, they quests are interesting, varied and full of fallout humor. Right now a bunch of fallout fanboys and girls wanted a new fallout title with everything that fallout 4 but better, but lets take a second to remember that when fallout 4 dropped everyone was like this game "NEEDS" to be multiplayer so here we are full circle. I personally love the game, I think it has everything a fallout title needs for it feel fallouty while still being playable in an online since. There are a few issues but lets be clear, none of them surmount to anything like a score on meta critic below that of No Man's Sky at release. I'll do a pro and cons list below but mostly I wanted to say I think the "Professional" game reviews started a lie of hate for this game and its now become cool to hate this game.

    Pros
    - Feels like Fallout
    - Graphic look good
    - Stories on holotapes well voice acted.
    - Perk system is interesting and adds enough variance to leveling up your character may take a few levels to min max, giving you something to work for.
    - Fast travel system works great and the caps cost is a great game balancer
    - Public events that aren't terribly annoying.

    Cons
    - Bugs, they aren't game breaking but a few of the release bugs are quite annoying.
    - Open mic, what were they thinking.
    - Stash storage limit, again what were they thinking? (Already been addressed with update to fix incoming.)
    - No being able to scrap ammo. Stupid.

Overall I'd give the release a 8 out of 10.

Bottom line, its a fun, new survival MMO set in the fallout world where everything still feels very much fallouty. Bugs are there none are so bad you shouldn't play and the game will likely continue to improve over the next few months. Don't jump on the hype train, the game is for sure worth playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are a lot of people reviewing the game who have never played it. I pre-ordered and am still playing it. There are a lot of people who seem to be angry that the game is not fallout 5 or FO: New Vegas 2, some, incorrectly, say that the game has changed Fallout Lore, which if they took the time to read or listen to the game holo tapes, they would see it is not the case. When it comes to open world games, by their very nature there are going to be a few bugs, however, some of the bugs are entirely on Bethesda, as is that bag issue. However, the game itself is fine. It plays more like Borderlands as a shoot 'em and loot 'em adventure, with additional features of crafting and wasteland survivalism. There are no other humans, except for players, which coincides with game lore. While there are areas for improvement, concerning bugs and possibly the addition of some more content which most online games do, the game itself is not as bad as most people are making it out to be. The game engine has actually had many parts of it replaced, so arguments about the game engine are kind of moot, except for concerns over the physics engine, that is due to be replaced. It's like Jacob has a ship and at a port he replaces a part of it, by the time he comes home no piece of the original ship remains, is it the same ship kind of deal. There are also a lot of people who just wanted a FallOut co-op mode and who are upset this isn't one, while others don't care for the anti-griefing measures taken. Bethesda probably should have implements pvp and pve servers so that people could have the kind of game experience they were hoping for and maybe they will do that in the future. There are ways the game probably should be and might be improved, however, the amount of hate is undeserved for the game. Again, we're not talking about the bag for the bugs in general, some of those bugs are entirely on Bethesda and they should be called out for it, but the game is mostly like other mmos only instead of getting quests from a humanoid npc who stands in the same spot and who you have to keep running back to over and over again, the quests come robots and from holo tapes, i.e. the dead. It really pushes the sole survivors of a nuclear holocaust with having all other humans being dead and having the life that remains being hostile. Expand

Bethesda have been releasing new updates at a steady pase, adding multiple new questlines, more events and a survival gamemode for the people who wanted to fight other players without restricitions. They've announced they'll be adding human NPCs to the game and that they're going to give us a good old Fallout main-storyline. Right now the main questline might not be that interesting, but I still highly recommend giving the game a try, especially since you can find it pretty cheap in most places. The community is one of the best ones I've seen, and are extremely kind to new players. Then there's also Nuclear Winter, which I personally was pretty sceptical about. But I must say I've enjoyed it alot, from the teamwork, to the stability in NW to the fact you can launch nukes during the match. So, in conclusion, Fallout 76 is alot better now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76 is a game that came out late 2018.
Ok so, i'm just gonna rate the game based on it's questlines.
Also spoilers for Fallout 76's Main Questline, Wastelanders and Steel Dawn.

    Fallout 76's main questline:
Utter Garbage, 90% of the questline is boring, only interesting part is the enclave part where you get to launch a nuke (aka, near the end of the questline). If you think you can just skip to other questlines, too bad, after a certain part, both questlines force you to be level 20. And the easiest way to get those levels is by playing the main questline.

    4/10

    Wastelanders:
Oh my god this questline is so much more interesting. To give you an example: When you enter The Wayward (a new bar that came with Wastelanders), you immediately get into a stressful interaction between a batter and Trudy. Then you get 5 different options to interact with the Batter, you can attack him, you can use your luck and say that there's something in his gun's barrel or you can use your charisma to at least try to talk it out with him or you can try to get help from Morty (who is hiding behind some boxes) OR you can just ask what is going on. 5 different options, 3 of them require some "SPECIAL" abilities, one of them is straight up entering combat and the last one is asking.
AND THIS IS JUST THE FIRST QUEST, THIS FIRST QUEST IS WAY MORE INTERESTING AND VARIED THAN 90% OF FALLOUT 76'S MAIN QUESTLINE!

And this isn't just all, as you progress through out the questline, you have to make a choice between which faction to get help from for raiding Vault 94. You can team up with raiders to EXPLODE the vault door (even though it doesn't make sense) or you can team up with settlers to mine your way into vault 94.

Overall, this questline is amazing. It still has it's fetch quest-ish times but overall, it's so good, ya all have to play Fallout 76 again JUST FOR WASTELANDERS. 9/10

    Steel Dawn:
Most stuff i said for Wastelanders can be applied to Steel Dawn, it's way more interesting than Fallout 76's Main Questline. And it has a big twist at the end of the questline! However, unlike Wastelanders, this questline is... kinda short, it's about 4-6 hours, This is because Bethesda decided to split BoS questline into 2, an interesting choice. Questline also leaves it on a cliffhanger... lame.
But it makes it up with an action packed questline, you raid an enclave base in one of the quests. And then a big twist happens, turns out that Rahmani has done something wrong before BoS came to Appalachia. Oh yeah, did i mention there was a community event just for Steel Dawn, community (of course) succesfully completed all of the tasks that were needed, i wonder how it would turn out if we couldn't complete at least few of them.

Overall, Steel Dawn is a great questline, it kinda sucks that it's a bit short but it's a good questline, and that's all we want as Fallout fans. 7/10

Long story short, Fallout 76's main questline sucks. Wastelanders is awesome and is totally worth returning Fallout 76 just for that. Steel Dawn is great, though i do recommend starting Steel Dawn when Steel Reign (Part 2 of Steel Dawn) is released this summer (2021), so you dont have to wait for a month or two while waiting for Steel Reign to arrive.

Oh yeah, there's barely any end game content, you can stay away from those.

On the other hand. If you approach it looking for a single-player, tried and tested shooter, simple survival game, then you might just enjoy this game.

The problem here, is that Bethesda decided to use us as free testers to see if they could do multiplayer. It turns out they can't, and we paid the price.
They decided to jump on the cynical cash cow that is micro-transactions and loot, like so many other scummy game companies out there today. And like the other game games companies they have come to the harsh understanding that we won't swallow their BS anymore (see Anthem as an example of public revolt against shallow online garbage).

Yes, Bethesda played VERY dirty (no refunds, changing pre-order conditions, getting greedy etc.) And yes, this game isn't really a multiplayer game, but if you want a sort of lonelier Fallout 4.5, then it's actually quite fun to explore, read lore, blow stuff up (assuming Beth don't nerf your guns, mid-play).

All the zero scores are a bit harsh, but I can understand why, given Beth's treatment of their fan base. Personally I've enjoyed it as a single-player game, but nothing more. It's worth a shot if you can get it cheap, and it seems maybe Bethesda have learned a hard lesson and cleaned up their act a bit.

In the communicty I have gotten help from several stronger players by adding friends and fast traveling to these random people and asking questions and or for help with certain things like how to eat drink and get ammo.

I saw one guy destroying another players camp for resources but overall have found the community to be really caring, even more so than in the real world.

I think bethesda's vision of a bunch of survivors trying to make it after the fallout really succeeded.

I do wish there was a way they could do maintenance and server stuff on only a portion of the servers at a time so it would not have outages in the game, because as of now I am writing this review while waiting for them to finish server maintenance so i can play again.

For what it's worth I would give it a 7 mainly because of all the problems trying to get into the game, but once it's loaded due to the help of the community, i feel i can get strong enough to give back and be a blessing to others while enjoying this current fallout game.
