All of these actions provide their own unique situations and drama, thereby creating a completely original and personalized Three Kingdoms experience. [KOEI] Expand

At the end of the day, Empires mode is arguably where the crux of the experience lies and as such it really does add a lot of crucial depth to a series that is regarded in many circles as a largely one-trick pony. It’s just a shame that similar evolutions aren’t forthcoming in other areas of the game which, some nearly fifteen years on, are now starting to look really quite old in the tooth.

Fun hack-n-slash! And don't get fooled by that other review, this game is filled to the brim with action.
And how the hell does it automatically makes the game a "boring strategy **** just because it contains some strategical component? I mean it's not even THAT complicated! Even my 5th grader of a cousin figured out the gameplay in one sitting.

I'm a long-time Musou fans, so giving it 8 might be an exaggeration... But to me this game is overall awesome to me. Needs improvement, but still awesome.

Like every other Empires expandalones of the main Warriors title this game gives you control of your own kingdom and unite the Ancient ChinaLike every other Empires expandalones of the main Warriors title this game gives you control of your own kingdom and unite the Ancient China under your banner.

    So first off,
    pros:
    - Edit mode is better than previous titles. Not really much improvement honestly, but gives you more facial features to change and personally i like how you can make a dwarfy character without looking too awkward.
    - Give you the fulfilling taste of a true a la KOEI massacre. Most of enemy bases is FILLED with enemy peons, so feel the enjoyment as the head counts and hit chains rises up dramatically.
    - improvement from the "Sim" side of the game. You can have a wife, a kid, and the choice of stepping down from your throne and becoming a vagabond, in which then it's up to you whether to continue the game as a mercenary, an officer of another kingdom, or to just raise another one.

    cons:
    - Quite restrictive in the immersion side of gameplay. For example, the game gives you the choice of having a spouse, and after a while your child will be born and later on joins your ranks. But the child's gender, looks, and abilities is just a lazy mash-up and given random voice type, and the game does not give you the choice of changing any aspect.
    - Gameplay is overall simple. Too simple maybe, that you might find it repetitive and boring after a while.
    - Not for completionists. Traditionally the Empires version's weapons, mounts, and characters are all obtainable without completing a secret objective and such.

Lastly, this game is made for those who are looking for a fun game to kill time. There's no tear jerking storyline, no innovative gameplay, no mind blowing easter egg to find. It's a simple hack and slash fun at core and added with some strategic gameplay to spice things up.

There s no strategy, no rpg part nothing and no story change or different cutscenes..
If i'd have to describe the game i would define it as a demo or Alpha version of any other DW title due to lack of everything....imagine like playing only free mode removing battle events and you have what this game looks like.
The strategic/rpg part is smoke in the eyes (its surprising how nothing will change in gameplay and since the game lacks cutscenes and story they won t affect it either).

Get DW8XL it has ambition mode that alone is way deeper than the Whole DL Empires.

I would understand not having a controller that can be used reliably in the menu system if the game bothered to have decent keyboard/mouse support in battles, but it appears this game has the worst of both worlds in their port attempt. Who the heck wants to switch back and forth between controller and keyboard?

And no right joystick? Are you kidding me?

Yet another massive failure in the Dynasty Warriors franchise.

Why bother porting the game if you aren't going to give basic PC functionality?

No mouse support, doesn't even support right joystick for looking around on a gamepad...I couldn't motivate myself to even try to play it because the camera controls are such garbage.

Not to mention the graphics look pretty much the same as the last 20 dynasty warriors games...do a little minor upgrade here and there guys.
