    A really brave sequel by techland. All the good points of DL1 have been pulled up a level higher. Of course it's not perfect but I'm hoping for quick improvements. The fact that there is no other game like DL on the market is what makes it special.

    This world is so beautifully drawn that you can get the impression you are in the middle of the movie,
    A great story, good efficiency. If I could do parkour in real life I'm pretty sure it would be as much fun as in the game. All those small details that make you feel this is so real!

    In my opinions this game is awesome. It upgraded everything from first game and added some new awesome f.e night activities. Some sidequest are go here and take it but story behind this is good.

    Satisfying parkour, decent RPG elements, expectedly deep story. I prefer DL1's favela-like environment vs. DL2's high-rise buildings, but still feels great nonetheless. Finished the game in 44hrs.

    Probably best open world map and traverse mechanics. Impressive story variety. Sometimes cut scenes don't fit your story branch and there are a bunch of bugs and downgrades, but nothing that can't be fixed with patches. I suggest playing at least a year after release, you will probably enjoy it.

    If you enjoyed the first game, you'll enjoy this one. Simple as that. Nothing game changing, just more of what made the first one so good - Parkour and Zombies. Hardcore Parkour!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, so, I have mixed feelings about this game. Ultimately, yes, I'd recommend it to people, but with a few caveats:

    1. The story. It's dull, boring, and I just didn't feel drawn in by any of the character stories.

    2. I hate how the relationship with Lawan is forced on me. It was forced intimacy, did not feel natural, and was quite frequently annoying. I don't give an eff about Lawan. I think that having any kind of relationship with her, as friends or otherwise, should be optional. But the game forces your hand. And why? Because they got a big name actress to voice the character?

    3. They recently made it so that the survivor NPCs can revive you if you go down. But then they stare at your blankly, soullessly, as they pick you up. It would be cool if they said something like "you OK there buddy?" or "whoa, it's OK, I got you" or "try to be more careful next time". But no. Dead soulless eyes,

    4. It feels like nearly all the side quests are just parkour challenges. Which are fun, don't get me wrong, but it would have been cool if there were more quests that allowed me to get to know the survivors and PKs more as people.

    5. I got the ending where I saved Mia, and saved Lawan instead of letting her destroy the missiles. This entire game Aiden was going on and on about needing to find Mia, find his sister. And in the end? Nothing. It just goes to a black screen, and tells me that half the city was destroyed, and Aiden just leaves because he's turning and doesn't want to hurt people anymore. OK, but... What happened to Mia? What happened to Hakon? What happened to Lawan? What happened to Waltz? What happened to the city? Like, where is the story behind everything? How can you expect me to be so invested in a world when the writers can't even come up with something, anything, to tie everything together? It was so rushed and sloppy and had the overall feel of laziness.

    6. It's buggy. Like, really buggy. Have had to restart the game multiple times.

    7. The characters talk on for forever. And it isn't about anything that let's you get to know them or is pertinent to the quest or game. It's just inane rambling. Which, I guess is realistic, given that there's an apocalypse going on and they are starved for human interaction.

    I'm just a little frustrated. There was so much potential with this game, and after finishing it last night, I feel really let down. Again, I'd still recommend the game, but if you are expecting it to be anything like the first game, you are really going to be super disappointed.    … Expand

    In some ways a step back from the first game, but definitely improved in others. If you enjoyed the first game you'll no doubt enjoy the second, but it's different. Techland have promised 5 years of support, and I fully expect them to deliver on that as they did with the first game, which improved massively over the years.

    The reason why most people hate this game is that it has a very uninspiring permise. It starts off by putting you in a ugly portion of the Old Villador city without giving you any idea about all the cool aspects of the game. But if you can make it past the first few hours then you will be amazed at how much this game has to offer. It has potential, it could be fun BUT not only is the plot a bit silly, so much of the gameplay is very very poor. Your guy is supposed to be a parkour guru right? Wrong. He runs out of energy before he finishes climbing a ladder and then just lets go and falls into zombies. A lot of the things you're supposed to be able to climb but not, our guy sort of gives it a wee go and then kind of dangles about for a while until he is eaten by zombies. Speaking of zombies, they are EVERYWHERE! What so this city didn't think ever about trying to clear some places out a bit, build better walls and barricades, develop weapons that can do more than hit one at a time. Why are there no guns anywhere? Some stupid narrative about a massacre when people had to give their guns up is beyond stupid. Many people would have hidden them. The army convoys would have them, they would be ALL OVER THE PLACE. All types of firearms would be. So too body armour, helmets and most likely working vehicles- generators don't seem to have a problem. Having only a few minutes in the dark is plain stupid. I am getting seriously tired of apparent big games being so stupid and poor. I'm tired of critics being paid off. I'm tired of the gaming industry making a hash out of everything. IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD LITERALLY NOBODY GIVES A FLYING CRAP ABOUT YOUR GAY PRIDE FLAGS. Are you SERIOUS!!! Not a single French flag in sight but you know, the international flag of rainbow is here to stay. All of that crap would disappear in the face of just trying to NOT BE EATEN.     This is an open world first person zombie game that took me about 20 hours to complete, and can be played wit up to 4 players co op… Youre a night runner, youre infected early on in the game which adds a layer of tenseness to the game which I loved, Theres a timer when youre in buildings or running around at night that have hav to keep filled with UV lights or the the sun so you don’t turn into a zombie.. this mechanic was never annoying.. in fact I never ran out of time, but I appreciate the level of immersion there… bevasue sadly this mechanic is where the immersion ends.. Like the original Dying light the world here just doesn’t feel lived in… it’s a mess zombie playground but even more lifeless than last time.. .a generic game world feel rather than again feeling like a world that used ti be brimming with life… I did love exploring the buildings during the main story missions, but nothing ever enticed me to seek things out on my own.. no addictive hook when it came to loot as every weapon breaks, theres nothing cool to find in this world, so why bother? Why not just stick to this super boring story? Which is what I did… One thing Dying Light 2 improved on is the flow of the parquor… It still needs works, its still frustrating at times, but it miles better than the original… and the combat is great too.. I loved getting into fights with my modded weapons, however the enemies this time around feel kind of brainless and just in the way rather than a threat like the past game.. and my biggest complaing.. I absolutely hated the second half of the game… running around in Dying Light 2 just isn’t fun… its not.. I feel like Im the only person who feels this way and I have no idea how.. I died more trying to get from point a to b, than I did the enemies once I finally got to the mission…
    I would love a more mirrors edge / modern assins creed style system in the future because I dreaded having to run through this city in the second half.. I didn’t mind the first half of the game where building were low and close like an old school assassins creed game, but the larger city.. awful…
    Overall Dying Light 2 is a fine game, its good, the combat is great, but the loot system is a disappointment and the story is just bad, it is.. I was non invested in the world at all…
    Youll have fun going through the campaign, its just a shame nothing in the world entices you to explore or to care…

    Story and side quests are really bad.
    Craft system, lockpicking, auto leveling after game completion also annoying.
    Probably you could play 500hrs there, but really complete story and most of the side quests ~40-50 hrs and after that game become very boring.
    I hope we will get good story DLC, not skin ones lol.    … Expand

    dying light 2 is a fantastic game i personally enjoyed almost every aspect of the game and i think it improves on everything the first game did so well. It has fast snappy parkour, fun combat and a interesting story the new changes with the skill tree and level system is a welcomed changed as it ads a lot interesting ways to level up other than just dropkicking the nearest zombie for adying light 2 is a fantastic game i personally enjoyed almost every aspect of the game and i think it improves on everything the first game did so well. The map is also massive it takes you ages to run from one end to the other especially without the use of the glider which btw is also a nice addition to the movement system. In terms of bugs i havent encountered one that i even felt was worthy enough to even notice there was one time where one of the mini bosses fell through the ground but i just had to leave the area and come back so it didnt really impact so other than that this game is absolutlty fantastic… Expand

    This game could, and should be, much better.

    Dying Light 2 has experience a very bumpy PC release, with major issues like crashes, not being able to launch the game, getting stuck into a death-loop that, for some of those who experience it, has taken like two weeks to get fixed, if not more. Then we also have the absolutely terrible Keybind settings this game has released with, which    This game could, and should be, much better.

    Dying Light 2 has experience a very bumpy PC release, with major issues like crashes, not being able to launch the game, getting stuck into a death-loop that, for some of those who experience it, has taken like two weeks to get fixed, if not more.

    Then we also have the absolutely terrible Keybind settings this game has released with, which as of the day of writing this review, Feb 17th, and Patch 1.0.6, has been quite improved and we only have a couple of keys and actions still hardcoded (like Mouse Wheel up/Down, or the F key for the Stomp skill, still hardcoded), a much better situation than a few weeks ago where almost everything was hardcoded.

    It is still inexcusable to launch a PC game with such huge Keybind issues, and I ended up finishing the game mostly playing with my Dualshock 4 gamepad, because the alternative was to make a custom Mouse and Keyboard profile with like 20 keys remapped or more, to make them match with the actual hardcoded keys in the game.

    On the Performance side of things, this game runs pretty decently on my Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 3060 Ti, especially without Raytracing, there are no performance issues on regular settings, and it performs smoothly at any resolution ranging from 1080p to 1620p DLDSR, even at 4K with the help of DLSS, I can get a bit over 60 FPS at that resolution, and the game still looks decent even when it’s not using RT.

    Now, with RT enabled, the game looks quite fantastic, for such an open world design, mostly thanks to RT Global Illumination and RT Ambient Occlusion, but I believe it suffers from issues regarding how it manages memory allocation and most people are experiencing huge performance degradation when RT is used, after some time playing, even those with the beefy RTX 3090, which has lots of VRAM to spare, so definitely something odd is going on for now.
    This issue hasn’t been addressed yet and it would be a shame they didn’t, because the vast array of different types of setups I’ve read on the forums, that it is affected, is too spread to consider it an isolated issue.

    I’ve had this issue happen to me randomly, especially when certain cutscenes trigger, when right up to that moment, the game was running at 70-80 FPS with all Raytracing settings enabled.
    Furthermore, in my case at least, my GPU usage stays at 100% when this performance degradation occurs, it doesn’t drop so I hardly think it’s a CPU related issue.

    When it comes to the gameplay itself, the game offers some new ways to traverse the environments, the most notable one being the Paraglider, which is quite fun and nice to use.
    For combat mechanics, we’re mostly still using melee weapons, like in the first game, but we also have some ranged options like bows / crossbow.

    Although, in my opinion, some of the physics we could see in the first game have been simplified for DL2, or totally missing actually, but I believe it’s a known issue and it will be improved.

    Environments look quite detailed but the game suffers from too much copy-pasted locations, especially evident for the GRE quarantine areas, and most apartment buildings we can explore or where we go for certain secondary quests. This is very disappointing, and I would rather have less GRE areas but each one being an unique, spooky, mysterious quarantine area with its own sub story, rather than “go there at night, look stuff located basically always on the same rooms, or similar placements, then grab the audio cassette from the doctor…go outside”. That was really bad, it’s fine for one or two, but all of the GRE areas in the game are clones of each other, quite bad design if you ask me.

    Characters look decently animated, and textured, I have no issues with them, but most of the writing for many of them is quite average, like it’s obvious this game suffered from changes in the writing team a few years back, and something is missing or had to be changed.

    I have no doubts stuff will be added for expansions but, as it is right now, I can only bump the score from my original, provisional review, to around a 6.5/10, will give it 7 here to round it up and that’s being generous.

    There is a lot of potential in this title, but it was not realized for release, but I hope in a year or so it’s a much better game.    … Expand

    This game is amazing. Graphics, gameplay, story etc. I think this game is too much better than the first game. I think if you like parkour games you will love this game.

    Dying light 2 is just dying light 1 but more and somewhat improved, i loved the first one and wasn't disappointed with the sequel cannot wait for the dlc to pick this game up again from the start with my friends.

    Game after patch 1.9.0 is really good now I'm fully recommend play this game on PC with dlss or FSR . Hopefully dying light 2 FSR 2.0 upgraded to 2.2 version for better visual and quality both on PC and console

    The world feels so immersive that I have to take a break just to look at the beauty of this City. But be aware of Bugs. I already encountered many of them and I had to quit the Game and reload. maby    This is just a great sequel to an already awesome Dying Light 1.
    Parkour has been really improved since 2015 and you feel even more the freedom of Villefor while running over the rooftops.

    I enjoy playing this games, with ambience when days or nights..
    Walking and parkouring in the middle of zombies.

    Maybe the stories and combat mechanic isn't exception but the feels you can run from zombies chased are awesome.

    I'm sorry for other Italians review bombing the game because they can't put 1+1 together. It's not a 10 but it's an extremely fun game, 7,5/8 maybe. The story is pretty bad but sidemissions are interesting, the parkour is amazing with it's combos and the combat is... well, not really balanced but fun enough.

Some of the best parts about the combat in the first game are that there is a lot of physics involved and where you hit actually matters.     After 50 hours played in this game it's hard to recommend buying it. A lot of things is worse than Dying Light 1, DL1 had better combat, better weapons, better HUD, better zombie behavior and physics, better abilities. Story is better then DL1, but this doesn't mean is good, first half of the game was okay and enjoyable, but after 25-30 hours... OMG, I sat with facepalm the whole epilogue.After 50 hours played in this game it's hard to recommend buying it. A lot of things is worse than Dying Light 1, DL1 had better combat, better weapons, better HUD, better zombie behavior and physics, better abilities. Story is better then DL1, but this doesn't mean is good, first half of the game was okay and enjoyable, but after 25-30 hours... OMG, I sat with facepalm the whole epilogue. No emotion towards the characters, I just don't care if someone dies or not, the script feels very cut and weak. It looks like it was rushed after Chris Avellone's departure, I will say for me, the main problem of the game is the story (is very bad).
    The graphics look like a game from 2015 some times, not 2022. Draw distance is good, but textures definitely from 2015, graphics for me is not most important and that's why we can skip this issue, I just mentioned this detail about the graphics being poor for a 2022 AAA project.
    They say "Your choices matter", meeeh, not really matter because you don't care, don't think will be like at E3 trailer, off course you have some choices, but they are mediocre. You can choose between 2 sides you want to help. Survivors and Peace Keepers, both are stupid idiots you don't wanna help, one looks like beggars and the other like paintball kids playing soldiers.
    What I like in DL2 is parkour, I really enjoy running in this game, you can climb almost anywhere you want, it's just fun, verticality is made almost perfect. But the whole city looks so similar that I feel like I've been everywhere, even if it's a new location, especially in enclosed places like apartments...
    Also it's a copy past of the last Ubisoft games, plus have a mix from different games also. I don't know how do describe this game, Action RPG or just looting RPG, because the whole game you just loot, loot and loot, press F on everything, I play on hard and I grind a LOT.
    And I can go on and on about cons in DL2, like repetitive gameplay, bugs, Denuvo, lies in trailers, extremely little attention to optimization, lack of variety of monsters, weak enemy AI, repetitive side content. We were given a Raw, unoptimised and storyline-weak product - handed out as if it were finished.

    If you like DL1 and wanna play the second one, just wait for big discount and more patches. Of the minuses, I can also add the uniformity of most streets and shops. For example, I found a collector's graffiti on the corner of the wall, after a couple of hours I stumble upon something similar and thought so I already took it, but no, this is a new graffiti. It's even worse with shops and premises where there are VGM boxes, these are almost identical pavilions in which furniture can simply be located differently (and even then not always). The variety of enemies is the same, there is no one new from the zombie unit. And there are about four kinds of people in general.

    But let me remind you that at the beginning I already wrote that this is the same DL but in a new wrapper with a horse price tag and so far a poor crafting and pumping system.

    This open world is just great. I personally have found no game breaking bugs. I am aware others have seen some. My experience has been pretty great. Story is kind of bleh but the gameplay, especially the parkour is amazing.

    Quite good game with a few bugs here and there but none game-breaking for me!
    If you are worried about the bugs hold off and wait a bit before hitting the buy button.
    Looking forward to seeing all the upgrades and support to come over the next 5 years that will make it a 10/10

    I really don't get why it currently has 4.2 user score here on Metacritic. Yes, there are some glitches and yes, the story/decision aspect is not the best, but the parkour gameplay, fighting, atmosphere and the city itself are all awesome. And even after 50 hours I still haven't done everything i want. Money well spent.

    Game runs fantastic. Constant 144 FPS on max settings at 1080P on RTX 3070Ti and i7-6700k.
    Parkour feels great, and the player progression feels incredibly significant.

    Despite all my complaints, I initially had fun with Dying Light 2. The first quarter of the game was engaging. I think if the rest of the game played like this, I would have way more positive things to say, but the fact is that it’s just not done. This is clearly an unfinished game mired in mismanagement. I don’t blame the developers at all; the leaders and executives behind this work are responsible. What works here is clean and well done, albeit with some boring AAA niceties. After the first quarter or so, though, the game absolutely falls apart in almost every respect. I’m sad for what was produced here, but if I’m being honest, I’m more sad that I invested nearly thirty hours of my own time into this. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

    Dying Light 2 has proven to be a brilliant zombie game, thanks to the great parkour and combat mechanics. The story however is a bit flawed due to some really strange twists.

    There is fun to be had here, but aside from a few moments of joyous parkour, it's the sort of fun you can have in dozens of other open-world games. There is certainly some added fun in co-op with a couple of friends, but in a world where we get another open-world game every week, I just cannot recommend anyone go out and buy Dying Light 2 at full price. Especially not when it came out right before Horizon: Forbidden West and Elden Ring, both of which look far more promising.
