Dungeons 2 is a colorful strategy game like Dungeon Keeper. The charming style and the mix of running ominous dungeons and raiding the world makes Dungeons 2 a solid game. The terrible jokes during the campaign however, do not do the atmosphere in this game good.

Looking at Dungeons, it’s clear as day that we don’t need EA for a true Dungeon Keeper experience. This is it, and then some.

Come for the dungeon management, stay for goofy minions like Jayzee, Am’Adamss, and Kato.

Dungeons 2 lack some deep in the RTS part, but compensate it with a good dungeon building section.

Those who felt turned off by the critically maligned Dungeons would do well to give Dungeons 2 a look. It evolves the dungeon management subgenre in a number of clever ways, and the hands-on strategy elements make for a fantastic compliment.

Dungeons 2 does an admirable job of channeling that old-school Dungeon Keeper feel into a new title, and fans of the series will find some enjoyable evil to be had in the dungeon-sim genre. Swapping between dungeon and overworld can make the game feel schizophrenic at times, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not a significant detractor.

Maybe Dungeons 2 plays a little safe by ditching some of the more intriguing aspects of the previous game (I still think the idea of using overconfident adventurers as a form of drainable resource is a fantastically twisted conceit that could have been fleshed out further) in favour of going back to the roots of the dungeon management genre, but it’s hard to criticise Realmforge too much for that when the game is this enjoyable.

Some issues keep it from being a stand-alone great, but fans longing for a reboot of Dungeon Keeper could do a lot worse than this clever, enjoyable dungeon manager.

Dungeons 2 is nowhere near the level I wanted it to be. It would have been nice to see an evolution of the dungeon management genre that takes things to the level of complexity of city-builders like Pharaoh or Zeus...Instead, the title is a low complexity strategy game with some real-time strategy mechanics, providing a fun experience if you’re looking for something that could be described as a modern day Dungeon Keeper.

Operations on the surface communicate the idea of “spreading evil” nicely and provide good change of pace from traditional underground war. Not a blockbuster yet, but quite entertaining nevertheless. [Issue#199, p.70]

A lighthearted and colorful strategy game that is determined to replicate the formula of Dungeon Keeper while adding some fresh ideas of its own. However, this led to some awkward design decisions, uneven pacing and an unreliable interface. Alas, it is not as good as it could have been - but at least it's a much better game than the first Dungeons released in 2011.

One nice try that falls down because tries to do too much for one game. As a Dungeon Keeper like game it's fun, but the RTS elements draw back Dungeons 2 from being a far more enjoyable game.

The basic substance of Dungeons 2 is really good. You can tell that the developers had good ideas and have invested a lot of heart and soul into their baby.

Dungeons 2 is neither a great RTS nor a great Dungeon Keeper game. It’s just “pretty good” at both.

Finally, a successor to Dungeon Keeper 2 that is actually fun to play.

Dungeons 2 is a most successful RTS/management game than its lackluster predecessor, but is not yet able to approach to the same levels of Dungeon Keeper (and after all it was obvious). This Realmforge Studios hybrid works in the management part (funny and quite deep), but loses points when it tries to be Warcraft III and offers too simplistic RTS sections with little personality.
  17. If some strangely-specific apocalyptic event wiped both Warcraft and Dungeon Keeper off the face of the earth, those brave souls with the will to continue might find something to cling to in Dungeons 2. Until that happens, the probably just best to stick with the real deal.

Even with all the progress compared to the predecessor it seems that the dev team bit off more than they can chew. While the dungeon building is rewarding albeit not challenging enough the overworld battles lack any strategic depth.

An attempt to resurrect the old classic succeeds in capturing its atmosphere. The game is ruined unfortunately by its poor strategic part and (sometimes) an embarrassing humor. [Issue#253]

Developers from Realmforge added several own ideas, innovations and improvements to the functional core of Dungeon Keeper. Unfortunately, they also made a lot of errors during this process.

It's not quite a keeper, but it's an improvement over the original.

Unfortunately, what’s new is simply the blending of two old parts that don’t work well enough in conjunction.

It’s a shame Dungeons 2’s above-ground RTS battles are so primitive and poor, because the underground dungeon-management stuff actually works fairly well.

If you enjoy strategy games and on top of that have fond memories of Dungeon Keeper you should definitely buy Dungeons II. [07/2015, p.50]

This game is not worth 40 euros, period.

I finished the game in 8 hours, the campaign, and that was being sluggish and doing things outside what I should be doing.
I can easily finish it within 5 hours and that is far to little for this kind of price tag, considering you can get a lot better games for half this price.

The gameplay itself feels very sluggish and siroopie, its slow, and just feels like its been slowed down to extend the lifetime of the game, which I guess should be considered a pro or you would finish it within 2-3hours..
The UI is to big, more then half the screen is cluttered. The 'mouse' (hand) of evil is to large, often clicking on this that are small is a nightmare.

You have spells ,traps, minions, the dungeon and the overworld where you can play with.
Now the dungeon itself is okay, I found that to be okay of Dungeons 1 as well, but the overwold, its the RTS kind of gameplay there and because its so slow you're just waiting more then doing something. It just doesn't work imo.
You have spells, that I barely ever used, this is because probably since the game is ridicules easy, even on impossible. I Cast maybe 1-5 spells per game/map. And always the same for that matter.
Same goes for traps in the dungeon, you only need about 5 to counter everything the AI will trow at you, not particular interesting..
The minions you can summon all have their purpose, but in the end, my armies consist of the same units every time because its just cooky cutter, x beats y, have a mix, you always win against the AI.

Then the two most irritating things about the game... the performance and the narrator thinking he is funny.
The performance is horrible, considering the game already is slow, having 10-50 fps dipping like mad everytime is just wierd. There aren't many creatures on the maps to even consider this kind of performance. To make it worse, my fps didnt change from a R9 280x and a ATI 5870....

The narrator is just annoying, the jokes (and story) are about Game of Thrones, Supernatural, World of Warcraft etc and it gets old fast because it gets predictable. I even turned him off at some points because it was to painful.

Wish I could be more positive but I cannot, good for 10-15 but no way anything higher with the lack of content and issues.

Well this is a very good step foward if we compare it to the previous dungeons. The new management system is similar to the dungeon keeperWell this is a very good step foward if we compare it to the previous dungeons. The new management system is similar to the dungeon keeper one, but it introduces some new (and fun) mechanics that make this game stand by itselfs. Campaign is kinda short (about 12 hours to complete), and there are a little amount of maps for skirmish or multiplayer (only 3 for playing solo for example). The concern is that also there is no bots, so the game faces a pretty huge lack on content in this regard... at least for now.

The graphics are pretty, one of the best in the dungeon management pc games, cartoonish yet stilish. Bad thing is that every creature is just a clone (there's no individual variation for example) but they are overall nice and with good personality.

Now we'll get where it hurts. The main flaw i see to this game (and i hope it is fixed fast) is the AI.At this moment, the AI is dumb when he's auto-controlling your creatures. For example, ranged creatures tend to go to melee range and get slaughtered. Other example: one creature has a CC channeled spell and a heal, yet in combat it will prioritice CC over healing -even if you just don't want it to be that way.

The overworld part is pretty good. A little bit like Warcraft 3 but with worse control over the units , tho developers said that this were going to get addressed.

In general, i'd say that this game can be good. Really good. At this moment it has flaws, but the mechanics behind the whole concept are brilliant and hopefully, patches will keep roling and fixing the only thing that make this game unperfect.
