Most of you people are used to the same multiplayer style from cod/bf that when you take a step down the classic death match you feel helpless.

    For the "naysayers".
-Yes the MP isnt so hot. SP is where its at with this version which is the only reason why I bought it.
-There is a lot of whining about bad sound ? (sound design in MP maybe) > Really? Buy a decent stereo. This Doom rattles my windows. -There's a lot of whining about how easy it is. >Dont play it on "diaper" difficulty. This is a tough game. -Negs on steam

-Negs on steam complain about short length of SP. >Stats show on average 1hr played. OK.
-There's whining about lack of story. > Doom isnt about winning the Pulitzer Prize. Its DOOM.
-There's whining about it being repetitive. > Ever play the classic? Obviously not.
It goes without saying, one should take these kinds of heavily biased neg reviews with a grain of salt.

No matter what the devs did with this Doom the people/kids are always going to complain and complain and complain. They seem to completely forget (or have never played) what the classic doom was all about. A gritty fast action shooter.

IMO this is a great version of a classic. We'll never again achieve the greatness of the original in a remake, because it was the original; just like we'll never see another CoD as great as MW. You want to chase the feeling of the old classic? Then play the old classic....it's old and horrible to look at but the appeal lies in the nostalgia of 20+ years ago. Doom has never been about deep story. Its a hardcore shooter. Period. THIS IS DOOM for our modern age. Do yourself a big favour and try it out. Heck even wait for a sale if you're unsure as either way its a great revamped classic and killer shooter that's definitely worth playing. I loved Doom 3 and this new Doom is no exception. Loving it.

DOOM's fantastic environments all look and play beautifully smooth even on my aging system.

The loadouts are honestly not a big deal when you get used to them. and are present in Quake Live. The demons do take a bit of getting used to, and it's worth adding that they are not present in every multiplayer mode.

This DOOM delivered! One of the things I love the most about this game are the Demon sounds and the music. Some of the music is actually note for note the same as in the original series except with modernized instrumentation. It's just fantastic all around. Being a 34 year old it's harder for me to get into games like I once did. I usually will boot up a game for a few minutes and get bored. Not this game, I can't wait to get back in and slay some demons. I'm sure when I complete it I will go back and try on Ultra Nightmare.

The gameplay on the surface may seem repetitive but due to the new weapons, upgrades and monsters being introduced with a perfect pace the combat always feels fresh.

The weakest point in this amazing game would have to be the multiplayer.
But on it’s own the multiplayer feels amazing and fun it just doesn't live up to the legacy of ID multiplayer.

Ah it's finally here, Doom 2016.

I was as were probably many other people, sceptical of this iteration of the Doom franchise and as you'd expect the game is far from perfect (bethseda), that being said, what it does do is send you right back to what you used to love about the original doom and most of the sequels ever since, with some extra gore and glory (no pun intended) thrown in for good measure

The monsters are all there, they're quite intimidating to be honest (as they should be, this is Doom) they're varied and pop up through your game like bad guys turn up in any other FPS, most of them are really easy to beat but they do allow you to pull of some long distance headshots (first encounter in hell for example with the machine gun and scope headpop, really satisfying)

Playing through for the first time i've noticed a few things that I would like to change (sorry but it's true),

First being the pace of the game, it's extremely fast, which is fine if for a multiplayer but in the single campaign i felt like i was missing out on the beauty of the game because i was legging it through the game at break neck speed, for example when you get to hell for the first time, you begin to move forward and in around 6 seconds you're already away from the initial gates and moving through hell, I think the game would have been better suited to have the shift key as run rather than walk, it's set the wrong way with no way of reversing it

Other than the run key being off (for me at least) i found that the glory kills weren't varied enough, you find the same animation being repeated over and over, there are others depending on the angle and or if you're in the air but i'd have preferred some kind of hold system so hold left and melee for a headrip, right for a body split etc, seeing as you have to do these quite often to obtain health it would have been good to have more variance.

As it stands it's just based upon the angle that you are at when you press melee.

So with that out of the way, I have to say though beyond these couple of non deal breakers i can't fault doom, the baddies are great, the maps are huge and sprawling, the use of lighting and occulsion, bloom is some of the best i've ever seen, the audio is also spot on with whispers of monsters in the background being heard when something bad is about to happen, the map design is great and varied, great use of smoke and reflections, a lot of work has gone into this.

I haven't finished the campaign yet as it is a long one, but I think to truly enjoy the game it would be best played on the hardest difficulty, reason being is that it does deserve your time and it's supposed to be difficult, dropping a big badguy with nothing but the lazer pulse rifle is a bit naff so pumping up the difficulty will make it seem as it should.

As i said before it's not without issues but nothing a few alterations to the cfg file couldn't fix and some launch option alterations in steam, removing intro video, right click to continue between rounds and deaths, mouse smoothing etc, once all these are fixed the game is spot on and with my current rig it runs at just between 120 and 160fps which is completely acceptable considering how most play at 60fps and still seem happy, multiplayer runs at 200fps most of the time.

    i5 4670k
    16GB RAM
    R9 290 Tri-X sapphire 4GB

Settings were on Ultra for the most part with AA turned down to 2x or 4x, motion blur is set to low, the game runs pretty well considering how it looks and the sheer size of some of the levels.

Overall i think this is a great addition to the series and although some people may see this as a linear one track game, it really doesn't matter. It's a next gen Doom game that ticks all the boxes and should keep us happy for another what? 12 years ? : O

Lets hope it doesn't take that long : )

    Money well spent

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game tastes like a cocktail of the original doom, quake, unreal tournament and shadow warrior. The hidden classic levels are so reminiscent of my childhood. Graphics, AI, movement, badass weapon all deserve a great deal of admiration.
The only things that appear somewhat lackluster are music and boss fight. There doesn't seem to be a soundtrack as impressive as in the old doom. The boss fight is not quite necessary. Cyberdemon and mastermind should have been mingled with other monsters. I really want to see (1) cyberdemon ruthlessly **** on a horde of barons of hell or fatso mancubuses and (2) cyberdemon vs mastermind. Besides, cyberdemon is the incarnation of all evils in doom and he should have been the final boss.

This is Doom reborn as the hyper fast frantic FPS for those grew up playing the original 90's Doom on MS-DOS. Not the survival horror version aka Doom 3. Good old running & shooting with extreme brutal prejudice. I'd give an 11 out of 10 over & over again.

Fantastic reboot of the original. A lot better than doom 3. Not a bunch of doing mindless stupid things to get to the next area. Just kill stuff like the original. If you are more of a modern FPS fan with the two gun limit and waiting in the corner to restore life then you might want to give this a 6 or 7. However, it is nice to go back to fps roots and just kill things.

This iteration has a bunch of customization aspects as well which gave it almost a DeadSpace Downfall feel as you upgraded your suit and modified your weapons. The new rpg and customization elements fit well in the structure of the game, adding just enough depth to be interesting and impact-full but not enough to be an awful mini-game chore in and of itself (cough garrisons cough). I actually really like the weapons, despite some of the minor gripes I've read on here about them not being "bass-y" enough. The alternate fire is fun, and I love the ease of being able to switch in between 'em o the fly. The variety is spot-on, and plays a strategy on how you tackle the field of monsters. The weapon unlocks, coupled with the challenges, keep me cycling through my arsenal in order to try new things--it also encourages you to perceive each battle with a different strategy.

The real show-stealer, however, is the crafty level design; coupled with the themes and atmosphere. You truly feel you're on Mars/Hell . It's incredible. I find myself in awe of the draw distance, looking at the terrain and action in the far background.

I rented my copy via recd box, but this game warrants a purchase, no questions asked. I would've bought but I don't have the $ right now...

The story is minimal (which I know alot of people are happy about) but personally I would have liked to see just a bit more interaction with the games characters. Not Doom3 levels of exposition, but just a little bit more dialogue to pad out your journey would have been nice in my opinion.

I really don't think it has much in common with the over produced CoD and Battlefield games. Here's a list of some of the parallels I see with Metroid Prime 3.. there are actually more.. I just don't wanna sit here thinking of them all.

Unlimited ammo(for the most part just use your chainsaw when needed)
Weapon & Armor Upgrades hidden within the progress of the game's levels.
    Right click charge style shots.
Science Fiction Planet Base gone horribly wrong environment.
Arena style battles guarding key spots during events in the game.
It even has codex lore hidden within the levels as well... which tells the horrible history the environment went through.

Runs perfect 90+ FPS at near all times on a ..5820k ..16GB ..GTX970 ..1080p/144hz which is seriously around the sweet spot in PC gaming specs right now.

It does have collision detection problems ever so often where you get stuck or caught on environmental objects when trying to fly around the levels ever so often. Probably more of a feature of single player than anything, because of the detail they added to the levels.

I'll be playing Overwatch Multilayer more than this, but this game's single player seriously has a double play through potential! Especially since this game has really good tweaked difficulty.

After playing the single player campaign I have to say that it's been a long time since I had that ''classic FPS'' feel, I wouldn't say it's a pure Doom sequel though, because it borrows elements from other classic shooters as well (you decide which ones those are), with just a few more modern features like upgrades and runes. The graphics look amazing (even if my hardware is below the recommended requirements, I was able to play on high with very few slowdowns), the pace is just right and the gore is simply orgasmic! (I can see that they've been watching Brutal Doom haha).

This Doom proves to me that you CAN succesfully combine classic and modern elements into a pure FPS, and after the disappointment that was Duke Nukem Forever, I'm VERY happy about that.

They don't tend to make half-baked games and when I saw the gloriously gruesome reveal footage for it, I pre-ordered it on Steam almost straight away!

Let's cut to the bit that you'll be wanting to read: I’m pleased to say that the new DOOM is utterly, utterly outstanding. It plays somewhat like the original game, but it’s been brought bang up to date and feels like it’s been to the gym and pumped up on steroids and it’s refreshing to see that Id Software have eschewed the usual route of using cut-scenes in the new DOOM - it just drops you right in the action without so much as an introduction and the story (what there is of it) unfolds as you play the game.

All of the demonic foes from the originals are present and correct have been brought up to date and imbued with new abilities. The lowly imps that used to simply be bullet fodder, for example, are now cunning little buggers that constantly leap around and try to flank or get behind you at every opportunity – they also try to get up to high ground so that they can sling fireballs at you from above. Thankfully, you have that classic arsenal of weapons at your disposal, all of which are fun to use and have some superb new abilities – and can I hear a ‘Hell Yeah’ for the return of the double-barrelled super-shotgun from Doom2? Everything from the pistol all the way through to the BFG are upgradable via weapon tokens that can be picked up after killing waves of enemies or completing special challenges, and these upgrades unlock each weapon’s secondary fire mode which are useful when dealing with the bigger and tougher demons later in the game. There are two upgrades per weapon which, once selected, reveal branches of additional upgrades that can be unlocked to increase the weapon’s power and efficiency. It’s not just the weapons that are upgradable either – your suit can be beefed up to make you tougher, stronger and faster and there are options to increase your health, armour and ammo capacity – so the potential to customise your weapons and abilities to your liking should significantly increase the game’s replay value.

The original DOOM games were famously gruesome, and it should come as no surprise that the new game is breathtakingly, grimace-inducing and absurdly ultraviolent! You can choose the normal route of turning your demonic foes into a red smoosh by blasting them at point-blank range or you can soften them with a couple of blasts and look out for them stumbling around with a blue glow around them, which means that you can use the new ‘glory kill’ ability on them. This is basically a quick close-range execution move which in some cases must be performed to dispose of the tougher enemies, particularly if you’ve ran out of ammo and are shooting at them with the pistol. Rather usefully, performing a glory kill also causes them to drop medipacks and a small amount of ammo, so you’ll find yourself doing them frequently to keep your health topped up. If you run out of ammo however, you’ll find yourself whipping out the good old chainsaw and it’s of course the case that when using this that you’ll see the game’s most gruesome sights as you literally cut them in half! It’s not just violence for violence’s sake however as chainsaw kills cause lots of ammo to be dropped, so you’ll find yourself using it fairly often.

It would be unfair not to mention DOOM’s visuals as they are absolutely spectacular. I’ve found myself gawping about at the surroundings, particularly in the outdoor areas of Mars and (not really a spoiler) when I’ve been in Hell as they’re absolutely stunning to behold – the lighting, particle and shadow effects are in some cases mind-blowingly cool. It does however help that I’ve got a machine that’s capable of playing the game at ‘Ultra’, so things do really look very nice indeed – but it should look great even if you’ve got a slightly older machine and have to dial the settings down a little.

Special mention also needs to go to the sound and particularly the music in DOOM as if you’re a lover of Metal, you’re going to find the soundtrack very enjoyable indeed. It’s very broody and almost sounds like Nine Inch Nails in the quieter bits, but when you’re getting attacked from all sides by demons, it whips up into a full on industrial metal riff-fest and I’ve seriously found myself gently moshing while playing! It’s seriously good and adds another level of brilliance to the game.

Summing up, I think that Id Software have seriously outdone themselves here and have delivered a game the exceeded my expectations by some degree. It’s fun, loud, brutal and brash and deserves your attention!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think its absolutely amazing so far, probably the most fun i've had playing a single player campaign game since Doom3 which i recently completed and FC3... Game play wise its really fast paced, in saying that you can slow the action down by being selective as to your movements, e.g. taking things out from a far - which is a little difficult with the initial pistol and laterly the shotty. There's a lot of action, even with the medium difficulty setting 'hurt me plenty'. The game Its linear, as you'd expect but there's more hidden stuff and mini missions within the main missions. Theres a whole host of power ups for the suit and now for the guns - just received a explosive shell upgrade to my shotgun. The pistol is pretty much ineffective - good for getting the possessed to a stunned state so you can use the melee and the trusty shotty is quick loading and carrys 20 shells max meaning you're often on the look out for more ammo. The melee strikes have little cut scenes ani's as you've probably seen in the videos leading up to teh release - you get more power ups for doing such melee attacks and the variation of how they're pulled of hasnt gotten old, yet.. So far i've come across two new types of enemy character - the possessed -which are as you'd expect the staff from UAC wondering around like zombies from dayz and these engineer type people who've got welding bottles stuck in them, which blow up nicely.... Its graphically stunning, i knew id was great at optimizing games, in fact it's the primary reason Doom was so successful and able to played by so many people, so it's in their blood. Good to see that part is still around. I never expected to play this game so well though on my hardware. With everything cranked up @ 2560x1440 @ ultra and full AA im getting about 50-62 fps on my 980ti, so its coping... I'm finding it quite hard going on the eyes at the moment, the amount of different light sources and brightness in the game generally is in stark contrast to D3, but this is a differently themed animal so far... For those of you who are maybe a bit afraid to play this version of DOOM because you think you have to be on the run ALL the time and the game is totally hectic and insane - it isn't always like that - you do have times to explore and think about what to do next, etc. Things come in waves and after you clear an area, the baddies there are gone.

But there are times (a lot) when the only way to survive and get the job done is to get running and shotting real fast ha ha! Run & gun, baby, Run & Gun!! They ratchet up the pressure kinda slowly at first in the beginning of the game, so just jump in and I'm sure you'll get into the swing of things pretty fast and you will soon agree this is one of the best games you ever played. Also, if you loved older DOOM games, you'll maybe find some incredible nostalgic secret stuff. So what are you waiting for? There's a Demon with your name on it just dying to meet ya :D !!

The sets, the enemies, the whole set up is an incredible blast.

It's awesome to blast shotguns and rev chainsaws at whatever crawls out of hell while some hard rock music is playing, though after the 203rd time, this starts to dampen the experience. The gameplay is very repetitive and there's not too much story, but that's not a huge negative, that's what Doom is about: blasting everything in your path with no unskippable cutscenes or overly long briefings.

The graphics and animations are a solid 12 out of 10. And I've performed melee "glory kills" over and over just to witness the beautiful animations this game has. Though I'd normally give this game a 7, the multiplayer and snapmap bring it up to 8. The multiplayer isn't the greatest, but it's still creative and fun enough to enjoy for a while. And the snapmaps-coop gameplay can be painfully fun depending on the map that's being played.

I wouldn't call this "game of the year", but it's still worth the $59.99.

As for performance - even on my outdated rig (alright, I have an AMD R9 290 so it's not too terrible) this game runs like a charm! Especially with the latest patch supporting the Vulkan API, I can run it on max (as far as it'll let me push it with my limited VRAM, ultra everything basically) at 1080p and it never drops below 60fps - hovers around 90-110 for the most part.

I'll just pro and con this instead of writing a novel like the polemics:

    Pros:
    1. Spirit of the Doom franchise was given great attention; monsters from the franchise appear in refreshing new ways.

    2. Single player maps have what made the previous games great (except for Doom 3 maybe): multi dimensional mazes with lots of secrets and exploration. I don't understand why some think this game is linear.

    3. Fantastic graphics, especially if you can max it out.

    4. Great audio with a heavy metal sound.

    5. Weapons and armor upgrades added a lot to this game. Intersting approach to the chainsaw. BFG remains the same!

    6. Game play is very fun. Those complaining about being locked in areas then fighting an arena style brawl with demons are showing utter disregard for the previous Doom titles.

    7. Story was tenuous but there; I don't know why some people are expecting a saga like the Elder Scrolls games, it's **** DOOM!

    Cons:

    1. Single player campaign is very short, but in line with the length of other first person shooters.

    2. Multiplayer is pretty basic with few custom options, but Bethesda/Id says they're working on this. Not really interested in MP anyway. The campaign is the showcase.

    3. Though the audio was good, I think they missed some opportunities to rehash the music from the old games.

    4. I really dislike the checkpoint style game saving. Not because I want to save scum so desperately, but because time between checkpoints is pretty long especially if you're trying to clear all the secrets.

    5. Points of no return: WHY? I hate this the most about the game. Don't jump down any holes or manually lift any doors unless you've cleared all the secrets first!

All in all, a game worthy of the Doom moniker. Certainly better than Doom 3.

There's a perfect mixture of intense combat encounters against widely varied enemies and exploration in search of secrets that power you up even further. Weapons are varied and each and every one I've come across is satisfying to use, and executions for health and ammo provide an interesting way to keep encounters fast and brutal while staying on top of things. The soundtrack is just as brutal and visceral as the rest of the game, though some loops can get a tad repetitive in some places. The story is basic and rather token, but honestly this game isn't about the story. There are plenty of The Last of Us' and Uncharteds and Mass Effects and, you know, books and movies. Doom really speaks to me for being so unapologetically raw and primal. It's a game that lets me rush in and shoot demons with the simple context "They're evil and bad, rip their flesh from their bones before they do that to you."

Next, the multiplayer. Now, I haven't actually played the multiplayer yet, largely because it looks like they forgot what made the campaign unique and exciting and decided "Hey, let's make it like every other shooter ever except with pickups instead of regenerating health!" It doesn't really look like something I'd enjoy to begin with, but it's only one of three parts of the game, so it's not like I have to play it to experience the game.

Finally, SnapMap. It's by far the best content creation tool I've ever had the pleasure of using. It's simple to use, it's amazingly powerful, and I frequently find myself getting lost in community-made maps thinking that it was some kind of official DLC. Well, for the good ones, at least, of which there are a pleasant number of. This one, simple yet infinitely complex tool could possibly have me hooked for years to come, playing co-op with friends and creating my own, intricate, scripted gauntlets.

The sound design, art direction, and atmosphere all mesh flawlessly. Textures are disappointingly low-res, but visuals overall , while not groundbreaking by longshot, look well enough that they make for convincing scenery. So long as you don't stop to stare at things from a couple feet away.

Overall, there's nothing more I could have asked out of a Doom game. No, it's not an intellectual journey or hand-holding storyteller; there are literally thousands of games made with that in mind already. It's a pure, raw, adrenaline-pumping romp through Hell and its denizens and I love it.

I have seen a lot of people claiming that this isjust another run of the mill modern FPS...In my opinion these people are also wrong.

I have seen a lot of people claiming that there is a major lack of variety and that the game is painfully repetative...in my opinion...they're kinda wrong.

Look, its 2016. There's been a truck load (like...LITERALLY a truck load) of FPS shooters flood the market over the last few decades and this means that if you give your game a first person perspective, you straight away face immense competetion and are already slightly derirative. So its refreshing to see a company (the company that kind of invented the whole FPS genre no less) take a MASSIVE step into the past and just plain ignore all of the conventions and conveniences that we have in modern day FPS games.

    Reload button? No chance!
    Sprint button? Pish!
Hide until your health recovers? Pitiful!
Aim down Sights? Ha! Actually...alright you can have a little bit of that

I can totally respect how this would make the game feel light on content and repetative, but for me, it made the game slicker, streamlined and ultimately more dangerous. Instead of plodding from poorly conceived cover point to cover point, you frantically thrash around smashing, slicing, shooting, exploding and ripping demons to pieces. Sometimes you get through a frenetic, violent encounter by the skin of your teeth, sometimes you style it out like a motherfudging G and feel like a Boss for doing so.

Doom is fun. Doom is fresh, Doom is MENTAL.

There's a single player campaign and even here it feels fresh because ID software are almost openly mocking the idea of having a story. Yeah go here and do that, and you do go there and do that, but Mr Doom Marine cares not for such feeble motives, he is there to kick ass and chew bubblegum...and that mofo is ALL outta gum.

Multiplayer manages to maintain the frentic pace of the single player and is therefore almost equally satisfying, although having an above average internet connection speed is of paramount importance. Snap map has the potential to give Doom an almost indefinite replayability factor if it can attract a big enough community, dont hate on the weaker maps, support them and foster a constructive environment and great things could happen.

I really enjoyed Doom, think its a fantastic callback to what made the FPS genre great in the first place. I can understand why some people feel let down, the lack of survival horror elements that Doom 3 introduced is a shame, but in all honesty Doom was never a survival horror game. The streamlined gameplay might feel a little lacking to those who are used to killstreaks and modifiers, but theres still plenty of room for strategy and ingenuinty in here.

    Very happy with my purchase!

Basically run all the time. In this respect it has gone back to the original Doom games.

I have played Doom three times in thirteen days! However I really don't really know what score to rate Doom 2016.

It's a bit complicated why I am undecided. If you search out every secret you get plenty of upgrades, you do reasonably well. However it forces this. Basically if you don't search out the secrets which earn upgrade points you get battered. The battering comes in the form of many deaths and the fact that Doom has sold-out to checkpoints. Sending you maybe 20, 40, or 60 demons to kill again.

Gitgud plays a part in this game. My second playing of the campaign was better, because I had adjusted finally to the pace. However, without those upgrades it's still hellish hard.

My first playthough I only found about maybe 40% of the secrets and I was distraught with Doom. I died ten, twenty, thirty times at many checkpoints. I was feeling, "What is the point?" It was battering me and I had nothing to fight back with. I missed the graphics because I was so distressed. When I cleared an area I did not look around much. I wanted to get out before another demon spawned and killed me.

However on second playthrough, experience and secrets, and it was a gun-toting blast. I got the graphics settings looking better by adding 'nightmare' textures. (Not adding nightmare shadows because the GTX 980 can't handle that at 60fps.) I used FXAA(1TX) and it really cleaned up the image and it looked phenomenal. Parts like the science labs looked stunning.

On this second play-through I would rate it 9/10 but for a few aspects. The designers made mistakes. Like early on there are parts of mining areas on the Mars surface, that are not connected. You had to jump to get from one place to another. Why? There would be roads and bridges. ...There were Argent Energy upgrade cells in Hell. However they were placed thoughout the Mars facility by Samuel Hayden.

Other aspects that annoyed me were:
Doom 2016 was just an arena shooter
Scaling the Tower was terrifying as an acrophobic (scared of heights)
Supplies flying at you from slain enemies is OK in a sword and sorcery game. Not in our good old favourite shooter.
The worst offence off all was this.........Doom has been changed from a shooter to part street-fighter. The melee finishes are forced on the player to gain supplies of health etc. Gone is the satisfaction of 100% putting your enemies down with guns. Now it's about 38% melee finishes. Much moreore if you are struggling with difficulty settings.

The positives are that the graphics are stunning, except for there being too much orange. The guns are perfect. The enemies of old are cool, though I hate the pinkies screeching pig noises.

How do I rate it: anything from 6 -- to 9.2---- out of ten.

But the gameplay has a lot of good ideas and it is not just a shooter. On the one side you need to evolve your weapons, armor and attributes. On the other side you need to read the map, where to find hidden paths, this is much better than without any hints/maps. So there is not only action, but also parts to think and quiet

The music is great and fits perfectly to the speed of the game: if there is no action -> not much music.
Also I like the codex, where you can read the background of the story, the weapons and enemies.

Hmm, where to begin. I guess I'll start by saying that thoroughly enjoyed this game and it left me wanting more (mission accomplished development team!)

It's hard to pick what I liked the most in this game because there are so many great things to choose from, but I'll throw a few out there in no particular order

Weapons: I found every single weapon to be quite satisfying, with the 2 upgrade trees giving you very different gameplay options and the achievements required to unlock the upgrade mastery just made me play in some pretty ridiculous but fun ways in order to rack up those points quick. Though there are a couple I want to highlight.

The chainsaw - I love the redesign of the chain saw. Limited fuel forces you to think before you use it and investing in ammo upgrades is oh so very rewarding as you get to 1 shot Barons of Hell. I think you need 4 or 5 fuel for a Baron, never really paid attention because I'm too busy yelling "Hell Yeah" ...

The BFG - I love the original BFG from Doom 1 & 2. So many games including games made by id have tried to "improve" on its design and left me feeling underwhelmed. So I was very happy to see its return in this new Doom. The fact that it had similar "limited ammo" but fast access like the chainsaw only made this weapon that much more fun for me. There is nothing like turning a horrible situation into pure win with 1 BFG blast.

The demons: All great stuff. Every demon is well thought out and has a few surprises up their sleeve. I really liked the redesign of the summoner and the cacodemon. I think I got 1 shotted by a cacodemon at least 3 times because I got too close trying to pull off one achievement or another and ended up getting bitten in half. The mancubi were pretty effective too, with good close range defenses. I still remember the first time I ran at one point blank with the double barreled gun only to get a face full of flamethrower 

The bosses: Yes there are bosses. No there aren’t any gimmicks you need to do to kill them. Just survive and shoot the hell out of them. Each fight was challenging and fun. Big thanks to the devs for the last boss. I was so hoping to see that baddie make a return in this Doom.

The combat: I loved it. Do yourself a favor and play the hardest difficulty you have access to. If you're not in a constant adrenaline rush from start to finish you're not playing a hard enough difficulty. Glory kills were particularly interesting because as the game progresses and fights get harder and harder, it becomes that much more risky to try and set up a glory kill instead of just blowing stuff up from a distance. But yet you quickly realize that you can't really survive without them either (since they reward health and some ammo), so it's a very cool risk vs. reward mechanic. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that this game wouldn't be half as exciting without Glory kills as they force you to pull off some pretty reckless stunts and play the game in a more exciting way than just trying to snipe everything from a distance. One interesting side effect of this though is that I found I didn't really use the RPG as much. The railgun is way better at a distance, and the double shotgun much safer up close.

The story: Well, it's Doom so I wasn't holding my breath for a deep story, though I actually enjoyed all the story elements in Doom 3. This time things were a lot more toned down, a bit more reading to do. Not overly immersive but still well laid out to give you a good purpose to go forward. I do like the Doom Slayer twist however and am hoping to learn more about it in a future expansion. I know the devs were super careful not to overdo it with the story in order to stay true to the original Doom, but just look at Wolfenstein. I never cared much for the title and the only reason I bought the new one was because it came with a mysterious Doom beta key. And wow, what an amazing game it turned out to be. And by far the best part of the game was the story. Deep down inside I secretly hoped that something like that would make it to Doom, but I understand why it didn't.

The graphics/level design: More great stuff. The graphics are beautiful, the level designs are the most "vertical" I've seen in any game so far. Towards the later part of the game I just loved some of the levels where you have a 3—4 story level and a swarm of enemies coming at you and the only way to stay alive is to utilize all levels and constantly stay on the move. I can't think of any other recent game where I've done so much running around and pulling off so many ridiculous stunts

All in all I give this game a 9.5. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is because I would selfishly like a bit more story to it.

So you have to life with a generic "Hell released on Mars" Story.

It was ok. Easily an 8/10 for single mode (I haven't tried multiplayer). But, it loses 2 points, because it does get REPETITIVE towards the last ~20% of the game (same fight styles/arenas).

Big improvement over Doom 3, this is much closer to what the original games were.
Fast gameplay, well optimized, good graphics, plenty of options, good soundtrack, fun weapons, secret rooms, plenty of action and no talking.

I don't like having to rely on the qte kills to keep health up and they feel cheap, enemies don't drop weapons and the map design isn't quite up to the old Doom games.

These are only minor issues however, this is a good game and a good Doom game.

Shortly: the SP campaign is 9/10 easily, but since MP is basically a dumpster I have to cut a piece since it's aggregated score (and I'm being very generous by cutting only one point, but why not if SP campaign is really great).

So if you like old-school shooters and don't mind paying what it costs for 12-15hour SP campaign alone (don't put hopes into MP, really) - you must play this

So if you like old-school shooters and don't mind paying what it costs for 12-15hour SP campaign alone (don't put hopes into MP, really) - you must play this game. SP campaign is absolute blast. From the very fist moment I picked it up - I was caught up in nostalgia, because they don't make such games anymore - it's just COD, COD spam every year.. The gameplay is what you would expect from DOOM - it just feels good to slay the demons. The weapon assortment is great and BFG is damn awesome and level design is excelent with many secrets to discover. The game runs just great, I hit over 100fps on everything maxed out on mid-range gpu RX470 in 1080p.

What's bad about DOOM? Well not much to be honest, if you imagine there is no MP, the only downsides are a bit clunky to read map (on levels with multiple vertical layers) and a bit uninspired weapons and armor upgrade systems.

If you are looking for old-school FPS fun - this is must buy game.

But, they advertised and tried to show Its multiplayer as some kind of new competitive FPS
and It isn't. Multiplayer wise this game is very shallow.
The multiplayer has the gist of It's singleplayer counterpart but in a very very bad form.
I am not whining about chaingun or bad pings. It just doesn't work as a complete multiplayer.
You just run & gun. (I understand Its the spirit of Doom but still.. It's 2016!)
I don't feel any strategic motives while I'm playing It.
Aim is way too easy for It to be strategic.
It's just .. dull. I don't know how to describe it.

    Overall,

    1. The singleplayer is a good fun. (It's not perfect but again, is really fun)

    2. The multiplayer is bad.

    3. So If you like 10 to 15 hours of awesome run and can be satisfied by It (possibly furture DLC? and snapmap stuffs?), then go for it. If you're like me and love multiplayers in games, don't buy this game.

    Thanks for reading !

Kinetic, visceral, and impactful, DOOM delivers a delightful punch to the teeth to remind audiences what a shooter is supposed to be.

In DOOM, game-play comes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. And by game-play I mean gun-play and by gun-play I mean HOLY HELL these are some fantastic weapons! Shooting is fast-paced and fun. Strafing, circling, closing in for for a melee kill, I found myself constantly staying on the move to avoid enemy fire and the game rewarding me for a clever and aggressive play-style. Nearly all weapons have two different upgrade paths that you can switch up on the fly and not a single one isn't satisfying to use. Ammo is plentiful but not plentiful enough that you won't be swapping out your weapons regularly, and the increasing variety of enemies that require different approaches and tactics means you can't get comfortable with just one or two guns to see you through the day. The games signature "glory kills" are fast and satisfying, requiring you to "stun" your enemies with well placed gun fire first before closing in to finish them off. Each glory kill you pull off rewards you with extra health, a great little risk/reward mechanic that keeps the pace of the fight up and never sees you retreating from an enemy in search of more health. The chainsaw and BFG are perfectly implemented as well, incredibly over-powered one-hit-kill weapons with very limited ammo meaning you'll need to carefully consider when to break them out but always incredibly rewarding when you do.

Each level in DOOM is expansive and labyrinthine, as any good DOOM level worth it's salt should be. This ain't no corridor shooter, and you are encouraged to explore each environment thoroughly to discover all of the hidden secrets and unlockables this game has to offer. Traversing the environments is fast and fluid. You move at a satisfying clip and incorporate a clamber and, later, a double jump to navigate the large, vertical spaces.

A point against DOOM could be it's rather weak and generic story. If you're looking for a world deep with lore then you might be satisfied by what is on offer through the collectible journal entries that flesh out the UAC and their Mars research facility, but the pretty intriguing idea of a corporation-turned-cult is barely explored. Arguably, focusing more on the story might have taken away from the game-play, which is DOOM's obvious first priority, but I did sometimes find myself wishing I had a bit more motivation than DEMONS: KILL.

Another definite negative is DOOM's multiplayer offering, which feels very tacked on and is entirely forgettable. All of the kinetic energy and adrenaline found in the single player game is absent here. This is where the description "mindless shooter" fits perfectly, where not even a respectable variety of game modes can keep it from feeling wholly shallow and lifeless. DOOM's multiplayer is a temporary distraction to be played once and then never picked up again.

But, despite these faults, in the end the game is just too much fun and I have so much praise for what it does do that it is hard to fault it for what it doesn't. DOOM is an incredibly refreshing return to form and has re-energized my enthusiasm for genre that has been, in my opinion, languishing for years, bereft of any originality and becoming stale and stagnant in the process. DOOM remembers that FPS's don't need to be a dreary slog nor do they need to take themselves seriously or rely on scripted set pieces to be incredible experiences. DOOM is a must buy for any shooter fan.

It's gory. It's INTENSE! And don't go anything less than Ultra Violence difficulty. That will give you a decent taste until you're ready to go balls out with Nightmare. The artistic design is flawless. The graphics are clean and crisp. The maps and level design are exactly what you would want as a fan of the originals. But again, I'll say the artistic design is what I'm the most pleased with. Oh, and how can I forget about the sound; it's perfect. The music comes, goes and fades right on point each and every time. 1080p/60fps - One thing I was worried about when Doom was shown off at E3 2015 was weather the game will still look and run good, After all we all remember what happen with games like Watch Dogs,Assassin Creed Unity and who can forget Alien Colonial Marines. After playing the game for the last couple of days I can finally say id software was true to there words. Not only does the game look good but it actually runs at 1080p at 60fps. Finally a game that runs at 1080p at 60fps that isn’t a remaster (not that there anything wrong with remasters games I just fell that there so much remakes out there that its being overused).

Solid campaign - One thing Doom is know for is it strong single player mode and that continues with 2016 version of Doom. The game will take you about 13 hours to complete however it might take you longer depending what difficulty you pick (good luck with Nightmare & Ultra-Nightmare your going to need the patients for that one) and how much time you are willing to find the hidden secrets in each level.

SnapMap Mode - Similar to last year Mario Maker on the WIIU (though not the same both games do have there similarities) SnapMap mode allow you to make your own level and upload it on the internet for others people to try. If your into that kind of stuff then give SnapMap a try.

    Cons

Ok Multiplayer & Season Pass- While the Multiplayer mode is fun (not to mention fast pace as well) its nothing really special. Most of mode are pretty much the same you get in other shooters games as well (like king of the hill and death match are 2 good example) and while there is a season pass for Doom. Its just for the multiplayer so unless multiplayer is your thing to me its not worth getting.

Weapon selection - While you can switch between the last 2 weapons you used (or opening up your weapon wheel selection) I find it odd that you can’t assigned your to the D-pad. I mean for a game that all about being fast pace and not being a cover base shooter you would think the developers would give you the option to assigned up to 4 weapons to the D-Pad that way you don’t have to open the weapon every single time.

Lack of Story - While there is a story in Doom (through data logs) I do (and I’m fully aware not everyone will agree with me on this) find it a bit disappointing that the story is put on the wayside. This is an issue I had with 2011 release of Rage. It had solid gameplay and a great universe to explore but I felt the story could have been fleshed out a bit more.

Not for COD & Halo fan - If your going into this game expecting this to play like COD or Halo then you’ll in for a whirlwind of disappointing. Doom is not like that. Doom is all about fighting Demons, finding secrets & hidden rooms, having to find health pack (you don’t have rechargeable health) and its one big selling point being gory and violent and fun. So if you are not of fan of any of that then Doom isn’t for you then.

Overall -For me Doom is a blast to play. While there are some things I don’t agree with (like the weapon wheel & lack of story) it doesn’t prevent me from enjoying it. Being that this is a reboot I do hope it does well so we can get a sequel though.

Half Life 2 is a masterpiece. Bioshock is a masterpiece. In comparison to those games mentioned, Doom's campaign is a bare bones experience, with little story, no memorable scripted events, dated graphics, and enemies that mostly spawn in when you enter a room instead of being strategically placed on the map. The gameplay is essentially this: walk into area, kill everything in it, move on to next area. It's also totally lacking the dark, horror atmosphere of previous Dooms.

Even the much praised "secrets" hidden everywhere are pretty lazy in comparison to the '90s FPS games it draws inspiration from, most of which boil down to finding collectable Doom dolls, upgrade points, or retro levels (which we've already seen before in Rage, and more recently Shadow Warrior). In all reality, this is a really bare bones campaign compared to what we expect from a modern shooter, and certainly what we expect from a Doom game. Doom 3 was a much more robust and innovative experience, despite its worse gunplay, and it had gobs of atmosphere.

So it's a good thing it's so much fun to shoot things! Doom 2016 nailed the gunplay, the gore, the audio, and the movement. The combat is the bread and butter of the game, and it does this very well. You feel like a total badass when executing glory kills, of which there are many variations. The weapons are very well designed and each have mods that give them different abilities. They can also be upgraded and there are challenges to complete in order to use them to their full potential. It's this progression system that makes the game a lot more fun than it would be otherwise, always giving you something to work towards.

In the end, the game wins because of its fast-paced , brutal combat, but I wish it had been more. It certainly could have been. It could have been a leading title in innovation like other id games, with frightening atmosphere and hyper-realistic graphics. It could have had an actual story and thrilling set pieces, and more variation in levels. Instead, it's pure fan service, celebrating the series' legacy more than trying to take it to the next level.

But when that face-melting metal soundtrack kicks in, and you're dodging demons left and right, firing rockets at one and then shotgunning another, adrenaline pumping as you struggle to stay alive, chaining glory kills together and trying to complete challenges at the same time, it all feels immense and awesome. That's what Doom 2016 is all about. That's what's worth the price of admission.
