Don't Chat With Strangers is another retro, point-and-click adventure with much novelty and a great premise to begin with, yet it ultimately fails as a puzzle horror game.

Don’t Chat With Strangers feels less like a game and more like a practical joke being played on the gamer. It fails at just about everything besides delivering punishment through trial-and-error. It isn’t a clever puzzle game – it’s just an irritating one. Each scare or surprise is effective once or twice, but they all wear out their welcomes before the end. And, when you finally do get to the end, the game reveals how little content it actually has. It is a ten minute experience stretched into three hours via insta-fail and permadeath mechanics that force you to play through a series of boring, mundane events dozens of times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't Chat With Strangers is a game, that tries to be cryptic and mysterious, yet it fails to deliver a fun experience. Don't Die From Stupid Bul- sorry, Don't Chat With Strangers is one of those games, that I pirated and I still want my money back. The storyline is cryptic and interesting. You are a man who found a random girl online and decided to chat with her. You have to solve puzzles to solve the mystery behind her. Also the atmosphere is very well developed with the creepy, 8-bit visuals are a nice addition. However the gameplay is where the game starts to fall apart. And since I am a person, who prefers gameplay over story, you can see why I gave this a low score. The puzzles in the game are not introduced to the player in any way and you will die a lot, because you didn't know what you did wrong. The cryptic atmosphere intefiers with the gameplay, in a way you don't know why you died and you have to go with a trial and error style of play. And even then you won't get far. The game is so bad at explaining what you have to do, that I don't think the game is possible without a guide. And even with a guide, you will still die a lot, because of some random thing that happened, because when you make the slightest of mistakes, if you press one wrong button, do one thing wrong and you have to replay this monstrosity again.
Summary: Don't chat with strangers is an interesting idea, done horribly wrong. If you want to play an retro-looking puzzle game, there are many, many better options on the market. Even on sale this game is not worth a buy. I am sorry to all the poor soul that wanted to play fun game with an interesting concept, but instead wasted their money on this steaming pile of crap.

The player doesn't have any clue of what's going on or what does he have to do. If you get to beat this game, if will be by luck, not because you have figured out what to do logically. Disappointment. Expand
