Simply put, this is $10 USD well spent.

Dogpile is therefore not just a "Suika Game with dogs": it is the natural evolution of that formula, a transformation that takes a viral concept and gives it structure, substance, and replayability. It's a puzzle game that makes you laugh, relaxes you, frustrates you, and rewards you, a title that doesn't simply copy but has the courage to grow, expand, and improve upon its inspiration. In the end, when the yard explodes and you find yourself faced with the result of your run, it's hard not to want to start over again, with a new deck, a new approach, and the hope of creating another giant, adorable St. Bernard.

Studio Folly and Toot Games have dealt players a good hand with Dogpile. Tetris dreaming is one thing, but it's another to see falling dogs in your sleep. It's a good problem to have, especially since they're all such good boys.

We could all do with the injection of charm that Dogpile offers, delivered so well in a beautiful cartoon art style, and with those all-important, synergistic game mechanics. This is pure, encapsulated delight that’ll leave you buzzing with a happy glow.

Dogpile combines the Suika Game formula with deck-building, and I really like the results. It’s quite clever and incredibly cute. I loved playing around with certain builds and trying to capitalize on putting together decks that involved certain mechanics. Did I see myself getting near the endgame? Eliminate all smaller dogs to prioritize minimized versions of larger ones in the deck! Did I want to make things easier for myself and not worry about placements? Try and add friendly and pack traits to as many dogs as possible. I really loved challenging myself and working things out.

Dogpile is a casual and secretly addictive roguelike deckbuilder that draws you in with dogs and keeps you with its gameplay. You can easily spend hours figuring out the best strategies that help you achieve the highest scores. Some major flaws hold the game back as they significantly disrupt gameplay. Give the game a chance, and you can fall in love with it, but be aware that it’s not perfect.

If there's surprising strategic depth alongside the amusement of the premise, though, the package itself is on the miniature side. [Issue#420, p.107]
