Nothing says evil like a Witch Doctor shooting toads, complete **** on the series. What happened to Diablo? A free game called Path of Exile does a better job at capturing the series.

This is a shameful display of the Diablo franchise and unacceptable. This is the end of line, Blizzard. I'll stick with Guild Wars 2 and Tribes Ascend. Expand

Graphics are an absolute shamble. Truly terrible game. Would not buy, pirate or even try.

Please avoid this like the plague. I seriously hope you guys don't touch this game.

I hope you like kiting and other MMORPG mechanics, also if you ever thought EBAY would be a perfect video game Diablo 3 is for you. One friend already started just buying low and selling high, yeah that sure sounds like an exciting loot grinding hack-and-slash game, why not also have stocks and tax reforms in your game? And getting new gear is just slightly bigger numbers, nothing else. Not a worthy sequel... Dumbed down to the point its not a Diablo game anymore. There only things this game have in common with the other games, is the story and title.

UNPLAYABLE OUT OF THE BOX. GG BLIZZARD!

Horrific implementation of a game. Cannot play for more than 5-10 minutes at a time before getting booted and having to relog. IN SINGLE PLAYER. Not worth the 60 bucks save your money until the game is working. Poor show blizzard.

No spoilers, I just wonder if it makes any sense to develop a game fo N years to get an outdated glitchy (fundamentally single player) game that only plays online after autentication on servers that do not work. All this for only 60 EUR ... increase the clusters or give the money back ...

I am Blizzard's complete and utter incompetence. I am many closed betas, an open beta, and a stress test that all amounted to nothing. I am the customer's disappointment, frustration, and wasted time. I am the reason why every single person who purchased Diablo 3 should be able to attain a refund if they so please.

Amazon's highest ever level of pre-orders for a game
    Singleplayer game
DRM : force players to be logged onto their servers full time "to prevent piracy" - translation = to force you onto their items for real cash auction as sponsored by Chinese gold sellers.
result: not enough servers available to log on to play game
consequence: this crap score & massive loss of respect

Got to play it a bit earlier today, but completely fails now. The fact that they don't bother to prepare for this launch is disturbing and shows complete lack of respect for their customers.

So Blizzard makes us wait for 10+ years charges a hefty sum and then puts **** DRM? How can a game this size can fail on launch day. This is not a MMORPG, so I shouldn't be bothered with all this "server is too busy" errors and actually be able to play the game. I respected the devs and paid for the game; in return I expect the same treatment and not this. Returning the game. End of diablo 3.

The intrusive access control known as DRM(Digital Rights Management) is what really is hurting the game here. Not only due to the train-wreck of a launch, but because you can not even play this game without an Internet connection. This crippling form of security serves no purpose other than agitating and frustrate legitimate customers. The pirates will always find a way around, it like they always do, even if that means emulating servers or similar shenanigans. Meanwhile we have to deal with potential latency issues and the worry of getting disconnected while playing what could very well be a single player game. The removal of the option of playing over a local area network is also very much deplorable and it is obviously due to the inclusion of the DRM and forced online play.

Another negative thing is the issue of having a cash shop in what essentially could be considered a single player game. The fact that there is a pay-to-win cash shop if you choose to play online is itself not an issue. But Blizzard's way of legalizing gold farming and RMT merely for them to earn a bit of money from every transaction does leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

The visual aesthetics are in my opinion quite unappealing and from a technical standpoint the graphics are pretty lacking as low resolution textures are hidden behind bloom and blurr. Granted, this may not be something deal breaking for most people; but for a game which has been in development for as long as Diablo 3 has, one should not be faulted for having expected something better.

Diablo 3, when you are able to access it, delivers more or less the same stuff what the earlier parts did, plenty of mouse clicking, various monsters to kill and plenty of gear to loot. Story has not much to offer, it can be summarised by "kill everything that moves and collect all the gold in the process", voice acting is mediocre, especially what comes to hero. Story has not much to offer, it can be summarised by "kill everything that moves and collect all the gold in the process", voice acting is mediocre, especially what comes to hero. At least the cutscenes look nice, but the in game graphics, although being watchable, offer nothing even remotely impressive. After one play through I must say I am bored. I beat the game in few days on normal difficulty, and started on Nightmare difficulty but it does not offer much more. If you can get excited just by collecting new gear and it is enough to keep you going through the same dungeons and deserts, then perhaps you can enjoy the game more than I did. But frankly put, the game is boring and repetitive. However, what makes my blood boil and what really makes me regret I ever bought this game is that I can't seem to access it. First it was the legendary error 37 right after the lauch. For a few days the game worked somewhat nice, if you exclude the timeouts for being AFK, which I find quite annoying, since I was playing single player. Now I am encountering another error (33) because of "server maintenance" and cannot access the game again. Better leave this game on the shelf until Blizzard finally fixes all the problems. How I see it, server maintenance cannot be a reason for not being able to play a single player game. Expand

This isn't a game. It's a login screen with nice music. I'm sure there is a pretty good game behind that login screen. It's just too bad that I'll never see it because of the draconian DRM.

LAN has been cut completely, there's no dueling either (PvP got delayed). The rune system started as a great idea but the final implementation is a let down, it's just more skills. Instead of music we get some ambient soundscape that can't rival the quality sound tracks of the previous installments. Most of all, the game completely lacks the unique atmosphere that made the previous games so great, instead we get cheesy dialogue, over-the-top special effects and a lot of goofy stuff like giant toads and a Demon Hunter wearing high heels. I've played the beta (single player) and had a blast.
It might feel a little dated however (besides the pretty look), you cant customize youre characters face/body etc, just a male/female choice. Same thing for how its played. But if you like that it might actually a good thing although die hard diablo 2 players are sceptic aswell. Its a very polished game and so is the gaming experience.

Based on the above i bought the game and still rated it low because an uplayable game isnt a game. I've spend more time trying to log in then i actually played it. Ive played MMO's and i have seen launch days but this is ridiculous (plus its not an mmo and i cant even singleplayer).
Dont know what Blizzard was thinking, they had to know the amount of preorders, they have experience in this sort of thing with wow and sc2 yet they messed up badly. And then they even decided to throw in another mass of trial players at the same time (why not introduce that a week later?).

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]
