One will doubtlessly find themselves being slaughtered by groups of common enemies at higher difficulty levels because lag spikes tend to render the player effectively blind for non-negotiable lengths of time-- even in single player. If Blizz fully comprehended the server expense of having all games run entirely on the server's side, it's disappointing at best and infuriating at worst that Battle.net's capacity for demand doesn't cut the mustard. Nothing to do at level 60. Do inferno over and over forever, cant even duel other players right now. so yeah have fun doing that storyline over and over hoping for good drops because 95% of the drops are not useful to anyone. Was fun at first but after 70 hours played I am bored with it.

We are not worthy of building our own characters as have to accept what Blizzard dictates. Character development is like an in-flight movie on a plane trip. It makes me wonder why your character stats are even displayed - what for? its not like you can actually have a direct impact on it. Similarly the powers you develop lack depth. In diablo 2 there was an obvious sense of increasing character power through news skills and increased damage within them based on your choices. Now in diablo 3 we have runes becoming available that don't give any indication of increasing the amount of damage you can dish out - more that you always dish out the same damage just in a slightly different way.

They say they are working on PvP - again what for? Given the way diablo 3 character development works it will be "Diablo 3 wars - attack of the clones".

Great game especially in Coop with friends!
DIablo will always a grind game so if you don't like it, just leave it!
auction house is a dangerous thing because you can get hooked just looking for items for your character instead of playing the game normally
I advise you to finish the game normally and then go to auction!

Dont listen to any of these reviews, the 0 and low scores are from people who either bought it and had trouble logging on or someone who thought it was going to be exactly like diablo 2. To those who says this game is horrid, get a grip. This game is GREAT!

The game feels way more fluid than its predecessor, where you could get pigeonholed into rerolling if you made a simple skilling mistake. It's somewhat simplified compared to D2, but that's not a bad thing. Plus, the difficulty here is real, and not artificially brutal like it was in D2 where you could face near-invincible creeps unless you had a certain set of gear at your disposal.

Also, I salute the auction house so far, because this game is heavily luck dependant, and having bad loot luck equals doom, so being able to sell eachother unwanted gear legally is awesome.

Playing alone, I find the followers to be lackluster to say the least. Their dialogue is way off in my opinion, and are far too unreliable to be used as any help. The templar even can't charge properly, just gets wedged into a wall and wastes cooldown.
The massive wall surrounding Inferno is also way bad, as I can't even clear act I without farming my way to better gear, which stunts the flow of the game. Then rather have 2 seperate difficulties, one for newly dinged 60's and one for the brutally awesome players where a full party is needed.

All in all, buy this game. Worth it, but you'll need to embrace the new.

That being said, just finished on normal difficulty. It took me about 22 hours ( I like to grind a little). I thought there was nothing wrong with the story, possibly could have done more but didn't need to. Cut scene graphics were great. In game graphics I thought were pretty ordinary to start with but as I grew accustomed to the art style I found myself thinking how good it looked on several occasions. The gameplay for the most part is fairly polished, lag issues sometimes causing minor problems. Special skills ( demon hunter) seem to annihilate whilst the ordinary attack seems underpowered in comparison. I sometimes got the feeling of repetitiveness but this was probably part due to over-tiredness. Probably my biggest frustration was the loot. I seemed to get plenty of rare drops but they were rarely any better than the standard magical items I was carrying, or they were for the wrong class. Even killing the big bosses was a disappointment in loot. By the end of the game I had 75% rare items equipped. I got my weapon from the auction house because with all my grinding couldn't get anything worth using ( perhaps that's blizzards plan). In conclusion, this is one of the rare games that I was interested enough to see through to completion so I definitely don't think it worth the score it's attracted. There are plenty of achievements to go back for etc if you don't have anything better to do. 8/10

Items are nowhere near as "cool" as in Diablo 2 ... they seem bland, mostly because there are almost no special or unique or specialised powers that items give. It's all just stat boosters, so the game is just about maxing out a few stats rather than building a customised cool character over time. Add to this the fact that there is no offline version, which is annoying for players like me who basically just want to play alone for an hour at the end of a long day... so big kudos on graphics, but gameplay won't have me addicted as I was for D2. - total need of "be online" is extremly hassling that single players doesn't deserve.
    - server problems, lag and maintenances puts players into almost slavery side and gameplay itself suffers
+ chat with friends is sometimes fun as same as occasional co-op play

    2. Graphics and Visual: PLUS
    - Everything is very colourfull so game looks like fairy tale
    - Unable to turn off smoke or water effects that consumes massive processing power.
+ Even on 6 year old machine the game runs smoothly with full details on lowest 16:9 resolution (maybe it could run smooth even on full HD resolution, but lot of processing power takes water and smoke effects)
+ Lot of items have different appearance if equiped + Areas change freguently
    + Ambient is dynamic

    3. Sound and Music: MINUS
    - Music is very soft and sometimes too quiet
    - Music tracks are sometimes identical copy or very similar variations of previous Diablo 2 songs
    - Very unbalanced sound volume of different conversations
    - Conversations and chat with followers often speak over themselves so it became sound mess + Demonical voices have nice sound (Diablo itself should have more bass)
+ Hits, blows, swings and other sounds during combat are well dynamic

    4. Interface: PLUS
    - There is no number for Health/Mana globes (only if you point on it)
    - Still flashing Inventory button / No flashing Skill button, if something new
    - Character statistics in Inventory
+ Buff / debuff icons appear if you are affected by something with clock type cooldown
+ Lots of new vital statistics like each type of regen, defense rates, offense boosters etc.
+ Clock type cooldowns on skill icons
    + Extended journal + Minimap

    5. Character classes: MINUS
    - Missing true positive hero that fights for all mankind. I think that everybody do it, because he is forced, not because he trully want to do it.
    - Each class have restriction on some type of weapons
    - Characters use only skills when attacking, so you can wear whichever allowed weapon. It only affects your power. Visualy it is confusing to see for example Monk running with spear suddenly it appears on his back while he fights with hands only and than back again he hold spear after combat.
    - Witch Doctor is out of bounds
    - You cannot distribute attribute points anymore
    - Skill tree is no more. You only unlocks skills and their upgrades (runes). All is predefined so there is no choice to take another way. You can choose freely from all unlocked skills however at the end (level 60) you have always everything. This massivelly affects replayabiity in negative way.
+ You can choose male or female for each class

    6. Enviroment and Locations: PLUS
    - Locations are smaller, there is bigger variety of them but after a few runs you find out that almost half is randomized. - Not all locations are well designed. Some of them will make you soon very plain and boring while some are very fussy.
+ Lot of objects can be destroyed whitch brings dynamic into play even if they don't drop anything.
+ You can use some enviroment like wall to crush onto enemies.
+ Enemies are not only standing on ground, but some of them are using enviroment to lurk. 7. Items: PLUS
    - You cannot equip followers with any armour (except shield)
+ Different appearance for each class
    + Crafting

    8. Objects: MINUS
    - Some objects like urns, gates or monsters are very badly pointable so you sometimes click like crazy to activate/attack them while runing around it.
    - Items on floor can be picked while holding LMB and only pointing at them and that offten fills your bag with trash.
+ Usable objects are highlited when pointing on them.
    9. Monsters: MINUS - Lots of them are very speedy so it is very hard to "catch" them with mouse. - They are overall unbalanced. Some can kill you (on harder difficulty) with one shot, some are only standing and let kill themselves. - Some creatures just still run away what is very frustrating for close combat classes. + Elites act like they really need to kill you. 10. Story: MINUS - I caught myself a few times thinking if the are making fun of me? Tons and tons of predictable cliche. - Hollywood story + Epic cinematics that are NOT unfortunatelly replayed on higher difficulties. WHY??? It looks like the score is 6 MINUS and 4 PLUS Other things that should be spoted: - Treasure Goblins is funny challenge - Shielding and Invunerable Minions are most frustrating elite affixes - Online single player is weird and almost unacceptable - Auction House is unnecessary feature that furtunatelly can be ignored Even if my score is 4.0 the game brings me a lot of fun and I almost cannot stop playing it, but I'm affraid that as fast as it bring fun to me it will one day totally stop. Mainly because its' linearity brings almost no replayability. DIABLO 3 IS NOT RPG !!! It is rather hack'n'slash adventure...

Any item that is any good will be placed in its real money auction, which Blizzard will take a 15% cut of the transaction. So in order for a player to realistically farm items at the highest difficulty they must first allow themselves to be farmed by Blizzard of real cash. If you do not spend real money and give Blizzard its 15% cut, you will only have a frustrating experience while everybody around you gets ahead. Don't allow a giant corporation like Blizzard start this horrible trend of making games that's completely designed to get money from us instead of it being fun. But I feel its well deserved and fair. After waiting patiently for them to fix their server issues (completely expect this from blizz) I was playing and suddenly had my license revoked with no explanation given... After waiting 2 hours in a call queue that I had to call repeatedly to get into I was told this issue was related to the annual pass and my credit card info changing (lost my credit card, had it canceled and they were unable to charge me). They did not have an option to pay up and resume your account on their site or easily have your D3 license reinstated. Even after signing up again for month-to-month wow AND buying a digital copy of d3 my characters were completely gone. All of the time I invested in the game wiped out because of a measly 15$ payment was missed. I have sent thousands of dollars their way over the years when you take wow subscriptions, character transfers, games, etc.. And they dont even have the decency to send an email to notify me that d3 was at risk of being terminated. And they require you to call and wait for hours to even find out what the issue was because they are supremely understaffed.

The blizz support guy told me I could either sign up for another 1 year contract of WoW that i'll never play or buy the game again digitally and possibly have my characters restored but I'd have to call back next week to see if the issue has been resolved they link characters to the license and not your battle.net account... for whatever reason and they wont just give you your old account back and mark it as paid even if you shell out the 60$ They have decided that its too much work to make WoW compelling again so they are resorting to slight of hand tricks to get you to pay for a game you no longer play and decide the tween crowd might find the game interesting so they make a silly kung fu panda class as the only major change to the next expansion... Maybe this is a profitable choice as most adults who have been playing the game for years are completely burned out on the stale content and 5 more levels of the same crap isn't going to keep us interested. The "Annual Pass" can only be paid on a month-to-month basis which to me is incredibly misleading, apparently they are hoping people forget about cancelling their account after the 1 year is up.

The game isn't that bad when its working but those times are few and far between and its not that good either. The campaign gets stale fast, the items aren't compelling and melee characters are currently broken in a2 inferno and beyond. I'm so disgusted with this experience that I don't even want to play it anymore. Blizzard only cares about milking every penny out of you. They have lost their soul

Told that, after 3 weeks i am progressing in inferno act 3 and there are 3 basic issues.
    1) The game is not balanced at all, it goes from way too easy to so hard to get me nervous without offering any challenging and rewarding part.

    2) its actually impossible to progress in group, cause again game balance issues, so its possible to co op faceroll content but you are forced to progress alone (patches will come but hey, its late sorry).

    3) The hit detection is sever side and it counts from the start of the animation, so if a mob moves the sword to hit you and you move out before it lands the hit you still get the hit, this method is super tard and cant get really why its here, also considering that the game suffers a lot for bad ping, lag and stuttering.

Blizzard is no more going for "its ready when its ready", but a more modern "we will go to patch all", as nowadays standards, patches over patches over patches.
Honestly i bought the game and i wanna play it now, if its ready after 6 months a next time we will pay after six months. those devs policies should be legally forbidden imo.
Imo Blizzard is no more here.

There are gameplay mechanic issues but those will get fixed. Loot system is flawed, this is like a tomb raider game where laura croft runs around fully clothed in turtle necks and baggy britches. The only legendaries ive found have been off logs and static world items not rare champion or boss drops. Only one of the items has been worth keeping. Give this game some cleavage, short shorts and some thigh high **** boots please. Including runes in the game would have at least let the player add one or two tweaks to socket gear that is specific to thier build/class. It is fun to play until you get to the point where u are trying to improve your gear, then it all bogs down and becomes very very very slow. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to admit when I saw this game preview for the first time, I was like this is going to be an awesome game! Being a player of Diablo Series I was very excited to get my hands on D3, but it really only turned out to being a disappointment. For as long as this game was held back, I believe 10 years or so in development, the game is quite bad. Sure the graphics/sounds/abilities are an upgrade from the old Diablo.....but that's really not saying much. The talent system is your typical cookie cutter system that will be in WoW MoP and to me is garbage because it lacks creativity and customization of your own character. ***Edit*****Lets face it we don't look into talent trees really to gain stats....it's to gain bad ass abilities! Players, and hey I may be old fashion, want to jump, break the ground, shake the earth, do massive dmg in a fun way. Not to the point where the game is face roll but where it is enjoyable to the player (It's a fine line I know) Diablo doesn't deliver on many levels to me. The story line is absolutely horrendous, (*spoiler* ) seriously, one of the most iconic people in the history of gaming...Tyrael you make human, and not only did you make him human blizz, you made him human in the "final chapter" of the game. I mean that's cool; that's like taking Predator and making him look like Bambi. I really do wish they took the time to not make your toon look like a cartoon character, I mean come on blizz this series plateaued you guys to the next level before WoW, you really could not do this game "Justice" (no pun intended) and take this game to the next level! One thing that was completely unacceptable to me was the lack of effort put into the multi-player aspect of the game. I mean normally we all expect there to be some errors don't get me wrong, but man holy cow there were a lot. Now typically you'd expect this from other companies, but come on not one that runs two of the biggest Mmorpgs in the world (WoW / SC 2). Also, the legalized selling of gold is sad, that means to me that people have gotten so lazy that they can no longer play the game and achieve gear but they have to buy it, please stop spoon feeding people everything blizzard. I am sick and tired of making classic challenging games from, well I'll say the majority of people who write reviews here, childhoods and allowing them to be played by infants. There is absolutely no skill involved in this game and the fighting system in this game is a joke. Also, when you played Diablo way back when, there was a level of creepiness to it. You know, it was dark you couldn't see what was in front of you, the world had been plagued into the abyss, and there were cows with scythe's trying to beat you down. Needless to say I am very disappointed with the installment of the series, shame on you blizz for letting an amazing legacy of game fall by the waste side. Expand

I thoroughly enjoyed both Diablo 1 & 2 and was eager to to play the third, and i love it. the combat is fun and every level up feels like an accomplishment. I wanted Diablo 3 to be a perfect game. I tried not to judge it by the errors following the release as many people did as it wasn't fair - now, nearly a month after the release the servers are stable, yet AH downtimes still happens. I've spend over 120 hours in game, cleared entire Inferno level with my main DH and I'm halfway through Hell with my Wiz. And I'm just bored. There game itself is good enough, but the randomization is barely noticeable and you just run the same levels over and over again (I went through all quests at least 7-9 times + farmed Act 3 of Inferno a lot) - it's simply boring, but I can get over that, it was to be expected. What I can't ger over is the **** beyond repair item drop system. All items you get are either total thrash or meant for 10 levels below yours - this is obviously intended to make people use AH - that's still fine. However, right now the AH is completely destroyed by Chinese gold farmers, Inferno item prices are skyhigh because of hyperinflation, basically an Inferno entry level gear for my Wiz costs about 25-30 mil, 2 weeks ago it was below 2 mil - farming Act 3 Inferno I would be able to afford that in about 4 months - obviously, by not solving this issue they want me to pay for those items on RMAH - no thanks. Add to the above the constant gold selling crap on all channels, frequent ninja nerfs that simply appear without any trace of patch notes, totally imbalanced difficulty in Inferno (I still feel sorry for melee classes after I face rolled through Inferno with my DH), loads of exploits available that allowed some people make fortunes in first two weeks, and so on. Basically, if you are not able to farm Inferno right now then you are **** out of luck because you'll need RMAH to do so. In the end the game itself is not bad, it gets boring but still it's not a bad game. However the implementation of item drop system that forces people to use AH and the hyperinflation that increased AH prices 10 times in two weeks simply made creating alts unpleasant. Expand

I enjoyed diablo 1 and 2 and i thought D3 was going to be great.
Game is broken full of bugs and there is no fun with it.
It is based on AH and RMAH ( Auction House - Real money Auction House)
so blizzard would earn more money. The game took too long to come out and it is still at beta Blizzard should be ashamed

First the positives. First four cut scenes are amazing (last one is underwhelming). The epic feel that is present in those scenes is truly breathtaking and effort can clearly be seen. Sound is very well done. Weapons and spell sound clean and you can really hear your attacks impact the targets.

    The Bad
Story is HORRID. BAD dialogue with bad voice acting. Bosses exist to keep monologuing telling you exactly what they plan on doing and where you need to go or what you need to do to stop them.
Difficulty is a joke. First time through, in 15-20 hours you won't die unless you really screw up. Second time around you fight a particular kind of an elite unit which can be more difficult than any boss fight. Third time around you will struggle to kill anyone... until you visit AH and spend 1 hour worth of gold pickup and get some rare items your level, unlike the drops which 5-15 levels below your level, usually with stats that make no sense, in which case game becomes easy, save for few elite mobs which again, could be more difficult than any boss. AH which is so heavily saturated with gear that extremely good end game elites can be had for 2 hours of grinding.
Game is just too unbalanced. I have read that the inferno is extremely difficult, which could be true, but in 38 hours and two complete walkthroughs through the game and a third one more than half done, I think I have had ~2 hours of what could be called balanced game. Rest of it was way too easy and couple of occasions where it was just broken.

I bought Diablo III w/o any past experience with the diablo games. I figured why not give it a shot since I had heard about the success of the previous diablo games. Im more of an FPS type: Counter Strike, TF2 but I've played guild wars for awhile and it was fun-- never tried an action rpg. At first diablo III was fun, I like the graphics and the first time I saw the pretty cool affects of monsters flying in the air or getting decapitated after I killed them but after awhile, I just got bored. Im bored of it and I got it about a week ago. I have two level 35s and they are pretty stacked with gems so I'm killing things with ease. I realize that the higher levels are probably gonna be more challenging but I dnt really feel like playing for some time since it will be the same thing. One change that I would have welcomed and that would have increased the fun in diablo 3 is more variety in character customization with appearance and skill points( but you can choose any skills that you want once their unlocked(elective mode) so your not restricted to a set of skills). Its not much fun when u play with others that have the same appearance and similar skills, only difference is the gear. So if you want an honest opinion, I'd say its fun in the beginning until you realize that your character is pretty much the same as the next. I would also like to point out that the story is very short and you will most likely kill each boss and run through the same "randomized" dungeons hundreds of times. The length of development does not show in the product..I would have expected more variety. If your contemplating on your purchase, I'd say hold off on this one until maybe Diablo 4 comes out in another decade. Maybe then you'll actually be given more variety and more options( the only two are: Class, Gender) Expand

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
