If you like looters, you'll love this game. It's similar to Warframe and Borderlands.

Don't listen to the naysays, it's a lot of fun with some great content. This from a guy with thousands of hours invested into looters

I'm really enjoying the game. I never played Destiny 1, so various complaints about how they ruined X or Y don't factor in here, as I have nothing to compare them to. I'm reviewing the game on its own merits.

I'm really enjoying the game. I never played Destiny 1, so various complaints about how they ruined X or Y don't factor in here, as I have nothing to compare them to. I'm reviewing the game on its own merits.

    Pros:
    * The gunplay is very solid. The guns are fun to use and have a reasonable variety, but not a massive amount. It mostly sticks to the standard gun classes, but throws in some fun twists. Shooting feels responsive.
    * Movement feels good. Jumping feels solid, geometry is reasonable, nothing feels particularly sluggish or floaty.
    * Abilities are meaty and satisfying to use. Each class has three subclasses, each of which has two subtrees, giving a decent amount of customization to how you play.

    Neutral:
    * The gear is only sort of interesting. Exotics are the gear types that can heavily modify skills, and you can only have a couple at a time equipped. The loot treadmill is fun up until you start hitting moderate light levels, at which point you're mostly looking for small upgrades.
    * PvP seems okay, but limited. Not a lot of modes, not a lot of maps. The cooldowns concern is particularly bad in PvP, but so far I've found it to be decent, but not great.
    * The story is okay. Not great. Hopefully future content expands on it.

    Cons:
    * Cooldowns. Ability cooldowns are very long, and this particularly comes out in PvP. You'll be lucky to pop your super more than once or twice, and even nades/special melee come out rarely.
    * Communication. It's extremely hard to communicate with random people. Chat (voice and text) are both locked behind various options, making it cumbersome to communicate in the open world.
    * Clans. Extremely half-assed. While at launch they're broken (which I expect will get fixed), there isn't clan chat, at all. You're required to use Discord or similar to set up groups, unless you want to use their janky clan website functionality.

The game itself is fun, its also very beautiful.

But, the UI feels like a console UI, so it feels like a port and i dont like it.
The items and looting dosent feel meaningful like other action rpgs, hack and slash games or
    whatever.

The graphics are amazing and very beautiful. Those who say the graphics are bad are probably blind or either have a potato PC that can't handle it because this game is gorgeous. Also playing with your friends make the experience even better and fun. If your new to destiny give the game a try and if you don't like it just return it. It's honestly a much better game than I anticipated. It's a blast playing with mates, but a bit boring solo. I love to grind for gear, reminds me of the good old WoW days.
I'm not too fond of the use of dlcs, greedy bastards.

I'm coming into this game with no knowledge of D1 other than a few minutes of the D1 beta before release. IT IS A BLAST! I'm up to power level 100 and the campaign and storytelling is incredible so far. I'm not sure why everyone hates this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. CONS: I was very disappointed with the difficulty of the final boss fight. There are several Strike and other battles that are far harder and lengthy. Was expected it to be epic and it was not.

PROS: PC version experience with mouse and keyboard is incredible coming from PS4. Much more enjoyable. Always enjoyed that in 1st person shooters having grown up on Quake, Wolfenstein, and CounterStrike on PC.

Overall the story line and the comedic cut scenes are very nice and entertaining. The shooting, game play, movement, music, graphics ( phenominal imo even at 2k ), and new adds and expansions on Destiny content were very nice. One of the best 1st person shooters I've played in the past few years.

Looking forward to RAID content next month.

This game has been flawlessly made into a native PC game with all of the features that you would expect of a pc game.
The story isn’t bad but could be better. Leveling up is too easy.
Ive noticed many people saying that this game lacks many if the original game’s features, but that’s not true. You just have to continue the story.

If I can say one thing about Destiny that is good .. it has fantastic control and looks really nice.
60FPS on PC is the way this game is meant.
Below are the issues I have.
    - 60FPS in game but 30FPS on cinematics.. makes a difference when the switch happens.
    - Leveling is done way before the end-boss of original content. LVL 20 is max in base game and 25 for Osiris expansion.
    - Sparrows are pointless in this game as they make you beat the game to use one (unless you earn one from a bright engram) This creates large areas where the game goes from a FPS to a walking simulator.
    - Items are small in quantity with new ones that were in original Destiny being brought back only not as good. Unique items such as skins, sparrows, ships, class gear, special event gear, come from Engrams which are earned every faux level after max level.. or purchasable with Silver which is the in game micro transaction currency.
    - Communication is horrible.. There is no general chat, clan chat, or easy way to get anything going in a MMO FPS game that focuses on PVP, Raids, and Strikes.. Oh but wait Activision and Bungie must love Nintendo because they made a mobile Destiny app that allows you to find that special clan and chat with them.
    - Bungie kept the aim assist in the PC version which combined with the 60FPS and Keyboard/Mouse combo makes this game easy to do whatever.. I died the first time well after beating the main story during the raid.
    - Still the same lame concept.. kill wave after wave and then any enemy you see in world.. know there are 3 of them.. Bungie can't seem to do things in random numbers.
    - The planets seem much small in Destiny 2.. I never use sparrow unless I'm doing a strike or something where people avoid enemies and just try and go fast through the content.
    - The farm is a great place but like the first game you eventually get a big city which is basically just a big walking simulator which contains just pointless halls and needs to be 90% smaller.. think farm or PSO lobbies.

Also I can't stand the fact that they already have a expansion which I also played and it sucked.. Smallest planet and it makes the light level achieved during Leviathan Raid pointless. This accompanied with the low content level shows Bungie and Activision hide content behind paywalls.

Good game and while I still play its mainly to do Milestones and Crucible matchmaking.

I wasn't very enthusiastic about Destiny 2. Destiny had been pretty heavily critisized by its lack of story, meh gameplay, and the gameplay videos I watched about it didn't exactly sell me on it, although as a PC only gamer I knew I'd be immune to the sequel related salt. However I took the (once a year, if even) 60€ plunge and HOLY **** I LOVE IT.

However I took the (once a year, if even) 60€ plunge and HOLY **** I LOVE IT.

Things that I *loooove* about Destiny (2? in general? I don't even know.):

    - Weapon loot is random to a point, but most equipment has some customization options, especially sights, barrels, magazines, and specializations in the case of armor. That really solves the Borderlands-esque problem of being stuck with weapons as-is.
    - Short story arc, with focus on sandboxy stuff to do.
    - Really nicely crafted levels, and story missions. Some stuff, like the Titan level, is not only mega pretty, but also super atmospheric.
    - Tons of stuff to explore and emergent gameplay.
    - Public events, which are super nice solo-compatible cooperative missions.
    - Very satisfying gunplay.
    - Fun and very well done voicework.
    - Fast to level a character up, thus motivating running all the classes and making it easy for friends to get to a similar level quicker, and avoiding the Borderlands style of level disparities that made playing cooperatively a very fleeting and tricky affair.

What I don't really like about it:
    - Lack of difficulty options (most of the game is on the easy side and the AI can be pretty brain dead at a distance).
    - Complete lack of regional chat.
    - While rather large, one wishes the weapon selection was a bit richer, especially in regards to Legendaries.
    - Skill system and character progression can be barely qualified as such. While there's 3 subclasses with 2 specializations each, it simply consists of adding a maximum of 4 perks as one levels up, so the customization options are literally binary. It's a shooting game after all, but still, pretty lackluster. Further, at least one of the specializations on each class will be absolutely useless on flying enemies, so while one can certainly "play their way", it will always be very obvious which spec is the most useful one.
    - The bad thing about all good games: that they end. Some areas are a bit underwhelming and the general amount of them is more scarce than I would like. The real problem I have with D2's progression is more that the two first worlds are great, the third is kinda meh, and the fourth pretty much blends in with the third. And to top it off, past that the campaign becomes a stretched linear set of missions that becomes pretty tedious to complete (I call it the Mass Effect 3... well, effect.). It kinda loses steam one third into the campaign level wise, although the adventures and the core game itself is still entertaining and well made.

Overall though, I've been glued to my computer for the last 3 days, and I've had a ton of fun. I'm really glad to have bought the game, and I'm looking forward to the DLC. Really good game.

After the main story, you have free content left called strikes ( like raids in wow ) , quests, dailies, and world events ( activities) .

Also people seem to misunderstand that games don't need to support their cheating app, their special chat program or whatever random app they seem to think is so important to playing the game. Gave 8/10 because it was still better and more fun than many of the AAA games out since 2010, but it won't be remotely close of getting the love and support that Star Wars franchise received. The gaming industry is seriously going in the wrong direction led by EA, then Activision, then Ubisoft, and so on. The business model philosophy that uses heavy analysis based on data won't survive for another decade in PC gaming industry, and whichever company sticks with it, might get stuck on a blacklist for many consumers in the future. I've stopped purchasing any games from EA for good five years, and now Activision is playing extremely close on the edge.

I was pretty fond of the first Destiny, though it took me some time to warm up to it and there are things about it I never liked, most notably the scummy way they handled the Taken King release and the exceedingly awkward controls on PS3. It had a pretty great soundtrack though.

The thing is, what I like about Destiny 2 is pretty much entirely the fact that it has a PC version. Aiming and shooting feels appropriately smooth and responsive, and load times are much improved. Past that, If i didn't have friends who play it I probably would have abandoned it already. As it is, I received the game and first expansion from a friend and haven't spent one red cent on it. Said friend is also the sort of person that aggressively defends every aspect of a game they like, even one with such an obvious myriad of flaws as this one.

Here's the ugly details. For every thing they sort of improved, there's ten boneheaded things at every level of this game's design, more then I could possibly fit here. Every time I play I discover something new and even more stupid. I can't say I find its low user review score here on Metacritic surprising. There's so much that I'm just going to summarize.

    Pros
    - Primary weapons were improved considerably. They're now, well. PRIMARIES. As in, your main weapon, the thing you get kills with. I've heard complaints about this on reddit, but I like what they did with them. Especially the Vigilance Wing.
    - Less compartmentalization of content. Story and side missions are now properly integrated into the exploration zones.
    - Many more color options for gear.
    - Auto rifles were buffed. This was badly needed.

Cons. Where do I even begin?
    - Though it's hardly terrible, the plot is still very thin, even for an FPS. It's at least more focused and coherent then the first game, but it's written a little too plainly, making Cayde's silliness feel a little too on-point. The extensive background, in particular the obscure literary references offered by some of the Exotic lores, suggests an epic of science-fantasy, grand adventure and the power of friendship. What we get is little more then an episode of a cartoon- admittedly, one that might run on Toonami.
    - On that note, they make even less use of their own lore then the first game did, if that's at all possible. I've never seen a series so afraid to revel in its own worldbuilding.
    - Twelve players in the first game's Crucible PVP was bad enough. But eight? I am so tired of this trend of steadily shrinking player counts in versus games. If I wanted to duel players I'd play a game that has a dual mode. This small team crap is boring. Combined with the disparity in effectiveness between many of the guns, god awful map design and complete lack of any kind of skill bracketing in the matchmaking, you will lose a majority of matches, sometimes to such crushing odds that the match will end early out of pity. Also, it shamelessly rips its gametypes from Call of Duty and Counter-Strike.
    - Why the hell is it only on Battle.net? Did Gabe Newell crap in Bobby Kotick's corn flakes?
    - Also, matchmaking. It's as dumb now as when it was first implemented in Halo 2. It has no place in a PC release.
    - Handcannons were nerfed. This was NOT badly needed. At least not where PVE is concerned.
    - Where the hell is the Last Word? Why ommit any Exotics from the first game at all?
    - You're likely not to get a Sparrow until after you've completed the man story. That's asinine.
    - The Warlock Glide is completely screwed up compared to the first game. I'm not sure what they did wrong but it frequently does not get you to where you need to go.
    - The ledge grab maneuver would be a welcome addition- if it worked 100% of the time. As it is, it's rather finickey.
    - Individual Strikes are no longer accessible from the Director or for that matter from the exploration zones as they should be. Instead, there's only the Strike Playlist. This strikes me as more odd then annoying, but still.
    - In order to increment the Rat King quest, someone else on your team needs to have the quest or the weapon. This isn't mentioned anywhere.
-The ships still don't do anything. They should do SOMETHING, I mean, come on.
    - Three players is still a weird party size. This rule of three thing they have is a bit much.
    - The NPCs at the tower are much more spread out then they were in the first game. You waste a lot of time running around.
    - The Prometheus Lens. Good lord, what were they thinking? If you don't know what I'm talking about, It was a horrendously overpowered laser weapon made available by Xur the first weekend after Curse of Osiris released. that made it so that if you weren't using it, you were guaranteed to lose crucible matches. And even if you WERE, you'd probably still lose, because almost everyone else was using one. It was then nerfed to the point where no one used it anymore.
    - Shaders are now single-use consumables. What?
    - Shadowshot is still next to useless.

While Destiny 2 has a solid foundation and a robust story campaign, its endgame content feels a little lacklustre. The sandbox doesn't have a whole lot of depth, and plumbing each of the hub worlds for secrets doesn't feel that rewarding. Grinding Public Events, Raids, and Strikes with friends is definitely a lot of fun, but there's a huge disconnect between content being cleared and your character strength increasing. There's still a lot of room for Destiny 2 to grow but, for now, it's still got a few kinks to work out.

In a nutshell, Destiny 2 for PC is the same outstanding game we played on consoles, but even more enjoyable thanks to spectacular visuals, masterful optimization and much more suitable controls. [13/2017, p.75]

Play this great shooter with your friends, it pays off. Then it will offer hours and hours of great fun without the stereotype. But be prepared the endgame will thoroughly test your patience and willingness to grind. [Issue#280]
