A masterly remastering of the LucasArts classic. If you haven’t yet contended with Earth’s vilest extremity, it’s time to finally embrace the Day of the Tentacle.

LucasArts' 1993 adventure game has aged incredibly well, making for an incredible experience for newcomers and veterans alike. Add in a host of great extras and upgrades, and it's hard to think of how this Remastered edition could possibly be better.

What can I say, Day of the Tentacle is one of the best graphic adventures ever made and the remastered version is the best version of the game. It's a classic in every aspect of the word. [Apr 2016]

This time Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions did exactly what needed to be done. They carefully improved and modernized the visual and sound aspects, as well as the interface, of an exceptionally well-designed game, left its other elements untouched, just like they should do, and successfully gave a new breath of life to this beloved adventure game.

Call me an adventure romantic, call me crazy, but I love Day of the Tentacle and still think it is one of the best adventures ever made. Modernized in exactly the right spots and with an added developer commentary and alternative controls this is a masterpiece with beautifully crafted puzzles.

Ageless adventure with a modern look for both nostalgic gamers and newcomers. Everyone should know this game.

Day of the Tentacle is a classic, but not in the old musty way where you brush off a copy of some old SNES game and realize it isn’t as good as you remember. This is still one of the finest point-and-clicks ever made, with a witty story and some brain-bending puzzles. Also, a hell of a lot of dumb puns...As with Grim Fandango, the big news is that Day of the Tentacle’s on sale at all. The fact that Double Fine’s put in so much work as caretaker to bring it up to modern—or at least mostly modern—standards? Even better.

Many will think that Psychonauts was Tim Schafer's last good game and right now he's preoccupied only with remastering his former glory. But if all of the planned remakes will be as good as Day of the Tentacle I'm fine with that. This classic, eternally enjoyable point'n'click adventure game offers tons of satisfaction and even after more than 20 years is still a game to look up to.

One of the best remasters we've seen so far, Day of The Tentacle Remastered retains everything that made the original release brilliant, avoiding the trend of changing the formula that works so well.

Day of the Tentacle stays one of the all time best point & click games ever made, and this remastered version is quite well-rounded with awesome graphics and an option to get the genuine 1993 visuals for nostalgia's sake.

Much like last year’s treatment with Grim Fandango, Double Fine have successfully restored one of the true classics of the adventure game world and it is glorious indeed. While not as deep and story-rich as last year’s offering, Day of the Tentacle more than makes up for it in humor, style, unique gameplay and a truckload of charm.

Double Fine has done another great on remastering a classic, delicately updating it in such a way that what stood out in 1993 stands out all over again more than 20 years later.

Day of the Tentacle: Remastered is a fantastic update of the original. What has needed to be updated has been, without losing the charm and cleverness of the original.

Day of the Tentacle is one of the best graphic adventures of all times. The game is a truly unique gem, full of humour, insane puzzles and an incredible voice-over. This Remastered version delivers stunning hi-res graphics, audio commentary, improved interface and controls (not suitable for gamepads), while keeping intact the original spirit. A must-have for all the adventurers out there.

It must’ve been very tempting to fix some quirks of the original, to make a legendary game a bit better. And maybe add something that had been planned back then, but wasn’t finished in time, or perhaps brush up the dialogues. Luckily, team behind Special Edition avoided all these temptations and delivered a game that’s 99.99% faithful to the original (the only joke that got removed is “Fony” logo on a TV) [Issue#209, p.66]

Currently, the game has some synching issues between the dialogue and the subtitles, but that seems like an easy thing for Double Fine to fix with a patch. So if you’ve never played Day of the Tentacle, or if you’re like me and you haven’t played it in 20 years, then Day of the Tentacle Remastered is an easy game to recommend.

Day of the Tentacle is largely removed from the adventure genre’s shortcomings, such as obtuse puzzle design, though it lacks a certain depth to its story. Nonetheless, its strange premise, witty one-liners, and brain-teasing puzzles help it remain something special.

After 23 years Day of the Tentacle is still so much more than a curious archeological find. It’s an important chapter of genre’s constitution, still reminding us how point’n’clicks should be done. [06/2016, p.42]

Day of the Tentacle did not age at all. It looks and plays as if they made it just yesterday. Thanks to Double Fine, we can once again enjoy a good adventure game, which, despite some flaws, is leaps and bounds better than many recent offerings in the genre.

While nowhere near as ambitious an undertaking as Grim Fandango Remastered, there is obviously a lot of love and care that has gone into Day of the Tentacle Remastered. There are most certainly still the same old gameplay warts that came from that era of gaming that don’t really translate well and some minor rough edges to the remaster, but it’s well preserved and the updates to presentation are marvellous.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered balances on the fine line between remake and remaster. It is a fine facelift for a phenomenal game though.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered provides a wonderfully crafted recreation of the original game, and Double Fine's streamlining of some of its rougher edges makes it a more approachable experience for modern audiences. But its revisions only go so deep, and can't quite manage to elevate source material that elicits chuckles rather than the riotous giggle fits it clearly expects.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is in every way a reminder of where the adventure genre was in the early 90’s. It has a pretty shallow story, badly written dialogue and underdeveloped characters. Surely the remastered will probably make fans of the original happy, but for anyone else this is more a proof of how much story telling and puzzle design has progressed since.

As with all adventure games, solving puzzles in Day of the Tentacle sometimes feels like trying to get inside the designers’ heads and understand exactly what they want you to do. It’s there that the 23-year-old wrinkles sometimes show.
  2. It’s still the smartest, most elegant, most entertaining adventure game ever made. And now, if you want, it looks new and sounds amazing.

Back in the day it was already kinda meh, but 15€ for a game that was released on 1993? Just because of a poor lazy remaster? This is definetely not worth it, the puzzles are not intuitive at all, you know it's ok if the puzzles are hard, but they have to make sense, and they do not make sense in this game. Bad characters, lazy comedy... If you play this because you loved Monkey Island and you think this will be as good, JUST DON'T. Full Review »

STYLE ALL OVER THE PLACE. How is this game not a 10?
It's simply one of the best adventure games ever made. It revolutionized the way we play games today. And it still holds up because of its lovable characters and wonderfully funny script.
The love and care that's been put in this remaster it's up to the expectative. And that's a LOT to say coming from a true fan of the original game.
Thank you Tim and everyone in double fine productions! Hope you get to do this with ALL the lucasarts 2D classics.
But most of all I hope more new developers start making this kind of games that we all need in our lives, funny, witty, just ENTERTAINING!
