    DoD: S is a great game. It involves Team-work, individual skill, and knowledge of each of the maps to accomplish the in-game objectives effectively. It is a very fun game for public playing, but also very good for competitive play for the more serious/interested. The WWII genre isn't always widely accepted anymore, but being a WWII Buff only makes me like the game more. I can't DoD: S is a great game. It involves Team-work, individual skill, and knowledge of each of the maps to accomplish the in-game objectives effectively. It is a very fun game for public playing, but also very good for competitive play for the more serious/interested. The WWII genre isn't always widely accepted anymore, but being a WWII Buff only makes me like the game more. I can't compare this game to many others (Especially not Counter-Strike) because of the difference of gameplay, as I see it. Bottom line, it's the best Online FPS game on the market right now, with very few flaws, the biggest being the unstable developers platform and the minimal amount of "Official" Maps. If you need a new game or are just looking for some cheap fun, pick up DoD: S.… Expand

    Me and my friend own a copy of this game and it is GODLY! The weapon damage and ragdoll physics are calculated perfectly. Great job Valve!

    Simply a great WWII fast action game. A very excellent predecessor of the original Day of Defeat.

    It is really fast-paced. The graphics and audio are alot better than Half Life 2 and CS:Source and the game is pretty well balanced. I like how the guns are pretty inaccurate but deal a lot of damage. This causes for some nice firefights. Greatly improved from DOD (the original) as grenades are not overpowering as it use to be.

    Its so fast paced and so involved that if you stop to take a breather, you'll be flanked. League play takes it to a whole other level of intense warfare and strategic movement. If you like to be a lone gunmen who depends on no one and nothing....this game is not for you. Teamwork and communication are the key to being successful in Day Of Defeat:Source.

    This is my favorite Multiplayer-Game, it's very well balanced, offers great graphics and sound. If you want variety - play custom maps, which are developed by a very active community.

    Anga R you obviously didn't take the time to play this game. It's one of the best multiplayer games available and at it's price of only $10 is unbeatable value. When players are hit they look funny? This game uses the same engine as CS:Source so if you're complaining about them looking like string puppets you can say the same thing for CS:Source. This game is more dynamic than CS. It has classes, quality voice commands, amazing sound effects, prone and other stuff. Unlike CS, this game actually involves team work to progress and the weapons recoil is much more realistic which you have to learn to control. If anything CS is less dynamic out of the two. Don't get me wrong, CS:Source is equally an awesome game (both are addictive and good value for money) but CS is definitely the 'simpler' one out of the two as both T & CT are practically identical with the exception of a few weapons and both use the same voice commands. That's not much variety. Either way if you don't like this game then maybe you just don't like the WW2 theme. You shouldn't really compare the two because they're different games so overall while I said all that stuff above, they're both great games and since this review is for DoD I'll say that it's one the best games to buy. Oh and Anga how can you possibly refund the game since the game is bought on Steam. You can't...so maybe you're pretending you played it.… Expand

    This game rocks! I am a World War fan, and I am quite happy with this game... some weapons may be a bit inacurite but who am I to be picky? For some reson, I find this game to be easy for me.....maby it's because this game has gamemodes that I know.....like capture the flag or team deathmatch, but I do miss the old css surfing maps =~D (I wish some serverds would use them in DoD:S)

    Basicaly the best game ever. I love camping at wermacht spawn with my thompson. The bullets whizzing past your ears and the sound of mg42sin the backround is great.

    Stunning.. simply stunning. But you need a high end graphics card to really enjoy the stunning. So if there was any bad ratings, go get a graphics card! :P

    People that compare this to newer WWII games are doing it wrong. If a new WWII game isn't better than I wouldn't rate it [the new one] very high at all. For its time DoD is very good. Like Counter-Strike there is a small learning curve and there seems to be a bit of a botting problem but not too serious.     The best game I ever played. Ultra realistic and very nice looking. I play for 3 years now and I can't get bored. I recommend this game to every WW2 games fan.

    i think for a game that was made quite a while ago, it is pretty good. if there was one thing i would have to look down upon, it would be the fact that you cant customize you own weapons. other than that, two thumbs up! ;)

    Day of Defeat is a brilliant game and deserves all the praise it can get. Having played this game for a few years with my friends and having only recently bought it I would say job well done! I prefer this to CounterStrike as you have intense battles which could go on for 30 minutes unlike sitting waiting for your team to win. This game provides action from the start.     I am addicted to this game! Spend great hours and nights playing this great WWII game. Felt like playing with a family in a well balanced game with awesome maps and great weapons.

    The best WW2 multiplayer game. I dont see why people dont like this. It has what do you espect in a game like this: realistic gameplay, great environments, great gameplay, doesnt take to much time to load, doesnt wait until the round finishes like CSS, good graphics for its time and the community is great and friendly. I dont see any failure, a perfect 10.

    A good world war 2 first person shooter built round the source engine.Perfectly captures that ww2 feel,the weapons,the clothing,the maps.Really enjoyed this one and will do so for many years.

    This game is ultra-realistic, the soldier's chats are incredible and the weapons are really good, with the real characteristics. I'ts nice, I strongly recommend this game to the WWII fans. But theres one thing I hate... the teamwork. If you're lucky and find good players, you'll enjoy a lot, but if you find rushers... mmm. Rated 10/10 for a real-nice game!

    I like the fast gameplay and the unique weapon rebound in this game! Compared to other ww2 games (like cod) dods requires a bit more skill to aim right.

    Hope that Valve bring out a new DOD when they release HL3.

    Perfect Game teamplay & ambiance, lovely community, great shooter! There are beautiful communitymaps out there, skins and mods like in CSS. You need to play it more than 2h to get a real impression of the game.

    Easily a 10/10. I went in thinking that it would be horrible like Half-Life: Source. I played the original game first and I loved it. When I tried this version, I knew it was better than the original. The bad things in the original were the UI and jumping taking up most of your stamina. This fixed those and had better graphics. Best WWII multiplayer game.

    DoD : S ça c'est du jeu ! Plus réel ke jamais, il nous plonge ds la réalité de la guerre ds des batailles a 32 ou 64 joueurs ! Seul point desavantageux : il manque une ou deux class player. Bref, DoD: S c'est la guerre ;)

    Ce jeu est magnifique, mais il manque quelque chose du premier volet......Par exemple les skins des personnages sont trop basiques,tous identiques que ce soit pour l' AXIS ou pour les ALLIES...les skins des anglais , des paras americains ou des paras allemands et les maps qui les acompagnent sont regrettables.     Ok - so I really think it's unfair the DoD:S's rating has been hammered by poor reviews just after it was released. More maps are being released all the time and yet reviews such as "the limitations of only four maps, on which to play one game type" pull the score down. DoD was, is and always will be excelent.

    Amazing gameplay for the most part. A few glitches here and there that may shy away a "serious" competitive gamer. Overall, tactics and teamplay rule all. A great WW2 game.

The only to be desired is a more realistic damage system and better hit registery. I have many problems where I will fire about 13 rounds point blank with someone whilst aimed at there chest, but only 1 round will register for about 30 damage.     Day of defeat Source is underrated. The game didn´t have such massive advertising as other games but needs more eye on it. When you are into the game for a while and know where and what to do, ist better than Counter Strike Source. The only thing is, it could need more official maps.

    A fully realized replacement for DoD 1.3, beautiful maps, fully rendered sounds and sights, two additional maps released since the game was put out and two more on the way, loads of servers to play on and continues to be supported by the developers. Needs more maps, some tweeking of the weapons to off-set an Axis advantage, and some hit-box issues that need to be addressed.

    Except for some little bugs, the fact that each server has different movement setups and the missing map versatility it puts you into stunning battle action with great teamwork capabilities without the boring waiting while others camp around for hours in case you died.

In general making comparisons, it is far better than most of the steam games. The general game play i found to be very accurate, not like most games where you shoot someone with three magasines and they are alive.     My Favorite GAME!!! Best gaming(in despite of some CS players in the servers) not good resolution, but excellent game... I think Support is the worst... 3 days do download SDK, my ticket for 3 days expired in second map I wa playing (10 minutes) many days to send invites.

    Excellently paced world war 2 shooter, kicks the crap out of CoD2. Minor bugs pop up from time to time more associated with the Source game engine than DoD itself. I just wish there were more maps but theres always a very active community creating more and more everyday! Theres no better place to kill some time than a Day of Defeat Source server, come and play you'll love it!!

    Atmospheric for a multiplayerwith great background noise, you dont have to be a geek on this 24/7 to stand a chance like counter strike, as it seems to reward you for cunning. Within seconds ur in ww2 and having fun, which is what it's all about. Graohics are good and it will be added to in time, so things too look forward too. GREAT!

The classes and weapons have been tweaked for just the right settings. The only thing that makes it lose a point is the hud, which is way too big and bulky.     A fun game, which I prefer more then the origianal, it has great graphics and, in my opinion, great gameplay. The only problem I have is the shortage of maps.

    Fast and fun. Voice chat not just a plus, but necessary. Great communities if you can find them. Small balancing issues on maps, needs a full server for best results. I suggest looking for 30+ slot servers only.

I'm 36 years old and in the beginning these young "punks" annoyed the heck out of me, but now I completely pawn them - well.. sometimes, hehe.     One of the more underrated FPS's in my opinion, it has good balance with the player classes. It doesn't really favor being a sniper or a machine gunner, or assault classes by giving them more special abilities. I also like the fact that you respawn pretty quickly too.

In CS you can go out by yourself and survive for 4-5 rounds alone. In dod source if you go off by yourself you will die and not get anything acomplished but a high death and low kill score.… Expand

    This game would be a 10 if the player could Lean left and right and scrool the weapons without the need to left click on them. This would make a Huge Difference in the gameplay.

    'The Thinking Man's CSS' is what I think best sums up this game, however as with all mods-turned-professional it's not without it's problems, related almost entirely to content. It is also not particularly newbie friendly, being unforgiving when you face up to more professional players.     This game is great! Not only is the community content a plus, the game physics are wonderful. The admin controls are friendly. The only downside seems to be ping issues when going head to head with any user having the better pc affecting the outcome.

The physics of the game, the distant gunshot sounds, the shellshock that you get after a grenade goes off near you, the historical accuracy of the weapons (you can't get a headshot with a handgun standing 100 ft away like you can in other WWII shooters), The game is very addicting.     this is one of the best fps online and the community is freandly..... but the only reason i gave it 9/10 is because valve keeps on cangeing things but if thay did one big update to give us more wepons and skins and then it would get 10/10 from me

    It is a near perfection in the WW2 games as it perfectley blends realism and the "all hell" aspect of real world war II battles. I found all the maps to be quite enjoyable as long as you join the right server, and to kill with any of the weapons is oh so sastisying.

    A very brutal game with a harsh learning curve, made all the more satisfying when you begin to realize the vast potential for tactics on the (unfortunately few) detailed and warren like maps. It's a refreshing change from CS that's for sure.

    Excellent gameplay but few included maps which has been quickly remedied by the community. Although it does have a steep learning curve when first starting out, it's a great feeling once you can slaughter the opposition with any weapon including your trusty shovel!

    I think this is one of the best team based games out there. It forces the group to actually work as a team. And the lone wolf is really only a distraction. I focuses on Flag captures and not kills. So you are really forced to get objectives if you really want to win.

    DOD:source is very nice game to my certain knowledge. But, decreased class, many bugs are DOD:source's problems.

    A worthy successor to Day of Defeat, the reduced, simple, fun classes, hectic action, and arguably the best Source engine visuals to date, this game deserves some play time by all first person shooter fans.

    It's a very good game with good graphics. The best thing about the game is the accuracy of the weopons unlike any other shooter game u cant just take your handgun and shoot someone 5 miles away in the head the accuracy is much more realistic than other games.

    While most people are sick of, and/or gettting sick of World War II games, I cannot get enough of them. If I were to have to choose between Counter-Strike: Source and this, I would pick this. If I were to pick between the singleplayer portions of Call of Duty 4 or Call of Duty: World at War, I would pick World at War. Same goes for Call of Duty's 2 and 3 (4 wins for multiplayer).     I have play this game before Simon. And I say that this is a solid and awesome game. The poor collision? The game is very well done and you should be ashmed. Anyway the graphicis a great the glare is more realistic and it only took like what about an hour to download on my type of computer.     My online FPS history started with the original UT and later UT3. Both excellent yet strategically void games. Then I tried CS:S for a while, only to conclude that it is simply a broken game: Barely any strategy going on, dominated by aim grunts and rather backward balancing (better players get more weapons and armor?!). Outstanding graphics for 2005 - still good enough in 2011 that their antiquity isn't noticeable unless someone's exploiting a glitch. Great gaming community with helpful veterans.     Right next to counter strike for source mod goodness. Though feeling somewhat dated, the game still has its moments. The community is still very active as well. Custom map support, blahblah, everything you get for being a source game released by valve!

The smoothness of the gameplay, the lack of stupid unlocks and P2W purchasables is really rare these days.     Extremely buggy, limited maps, limited weapons, but gradually (because of steam) it gets better. Tiny updates now and then help it get better and better gradually. Do I love every moment of it? Oh yes...

    Good graphics, and amazing fun. Find the right server, and you can have loads of fun on user created content. Balanced classes and limitations keep the game fun and flowing. Does suffer a bit from repetitiveness and overpowered weapons. Could definitely use some updates to balance those, but still great fun.

Apart from the updated graphics and physics engine, there really isn't anything that is done better than the original which is kind of disappointing. Unlike CS:S where the graphics and gameplay was made better, DoD:S doesn't feel all that great. The gun models are also a step backward and they actually look really bland with almost no textures. The weapons in CS:S look much better than the original but with DoD:S, they look worse. There's less guns than the original as well. I really don't know why they changed it so much (in a bad way). They really haven't added to this game gameplay wise....they've only taken stuff away which has me scratching my head.… Expand

    I expect to be playing DoD a lot more than "Couterstrike: Source"... I recommend DoD:S to the multiplayer action crowd, but don't come crying to me when things start getting stale.

    While the game still needs some patching, and is unfortunately not DoD as we know it, this is still an absolutely fantastic package; those after a new multiplayer shooter can’t really go wrong with this one. Oh, and expect this score to go up over time as Valve patches out various problems.
